I have had Mirena since January 2009 and at first I was relieved to see many of my side effects from the pill disappearing. I have more of a sex-drive, no more yeast infections, and over time my periods became virtually nonexistent. However, I now have the worst cramps during my period, and I have never had period cramps in my life! I have gained probably 15 pounds and feel tired all of the time. Worst of all I have turned into a horrible person. My mother prompted me to research this products side effects after she told me I reminded her of my overbearing and irrational grandmother! Saying that she always hates to come home to me as she doesn't know how she will find me! If I will be angry, or happy, or sad, or jump all over her. My fiancee has said the exact same thing. I am now definitely having it removed I just hope the damage has not already been done. AND to top it all off, I haven't even finished paying it off! I still owe money on the Mirena because I was too broke to get regular birth control without insurance.

My 14 year old daughter received her fist Gardasil shot in Sept/Oct 08. Soon after she started losing her hair and thinning. Now it is coming out in handfuls. She is so upset and I believe that she is becoming depressed due to the emotional heartache. She has not received any more shots. Anyone who reads this don't give this to your daughter.!

I'm sorry if someone has covered this already... my grandmother is actually the one on Prednisone because she was diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy about a year and a half ago and I believe they recommended it to help her strengthen her muscles so she could walk. It has really taken a terrible toll as she is now unable to walk, and even using a walker can be stressful and difficult. Once she was put on Prednisone they continued to increase her dosage and because of it she now has terrible tremors. It kills me to watch her go through this and wish that I could fight the illness for her. I just want her to be able to eat without feeling so stressed out because her hands aren't steady. The doctor did say that the medication is causing her tremors, and we were relieved to find out that it wasn't Parkinson's, and now they are beginning to wean her off of the medication but she is still taking it at the moment. If anyone has finally tapered off from the medication, who originally had tremors, did you find that your tremors did go away once you were off the medication? How long before the shaking stopped and you felt better? I just want to give her hope that after she is off the medication there will be some relief. I feel awful knowing there is nothing I can really do but support and be there for her, and do some research. If anyone could help me with my questions it would be greatly appreciated. I'm sad to hear other people's terrible issues with this medication and as far as I know I have only heard negative responses to this drug, so it's unfortunate that in this day and age they haven't found something safer that has the same effect that doctors are looking for in a medication. I wish everyone a safe and happy recovery.

Thank you all for sharing your experiences of the side affects of Advair. I am 46 years-old and have been on Advair for almost 2 years. I've experienced hair loss, joint stiffness. I find myself taking Tylenol for body and back pains every night, and Bayer aspirin in the mornings. My feet are so sore. I've also had decrease in libido.. at first I thought I was going through menopause. I did not have all these problems before Advair. Look what most of us had to sacrifice just to be able to take in deep breaths without feeling like someone is standing on our chest. I will search for other alternatives. My grandmother used to make tea from lobelia leaves to help my uncle who suffered with asthma.
The drug industry is a business. Once we start taking any pharmaceutical drugs... we open ourselves to other health problems due to the side affects of those drugs.

I've been taking this medicine Amlodipine Besylate 5mg (generic for Norvasc) for two months. First my feet and ankles are swollen all the time, this only happened to me 34 years ago two days before the birth of our son. Then the itching on both arms and both legs. Then the blisters on my legs and arms. Then the numbness in my right toes. These blisters remind me of shingles my grandmother had in her 80's. I'm (55). I am allergic to anything with sulfur in it.

every time I have a cortisone shot, I get horrible body aches all over in joints and muscles and headache. It happens every time. My grandmother had the same thing. I thought everyone had this. I had the injection in my knee today and then went shopping. 5 hours later, I was aching so bad, I had to go to bed. Tylenol doesn't touch it. I hate cortisone shots. I was really disparate when I agreed to this one. The shot didn't hurt much as they used the freezing thing. The doc is an orthopedic doc and he is good. He replaced my hip and it is wonderful and quicker recovery than my first one on the other side. Next we do the synvisc shots, He already tried the meniscus surgery. We are just trying to postpone replacement as I am only 58.

I am a 34 yr old woman who has suffered from migraines for 13 yrs and chronic head pain for most of my life. I have had sinus surgery, my vision checked, TMJ corrected and anything else I could think of to alleviate my headaches. I took various anti-depressants to treat for chronic pain. About 3 yrs ago I began taking Topamax after my grandmother & both my sisters went on it for migraines. We all have experienced success in treating the headaches and both sisters lost weight. Grandmother and I did not. We all still have migraines occasionally and my youngest sister cannot miss a dose w/out having a headache. My grandmother has had to discontinue Topamax because it was effecting her memory, speech, and concentration so badly. All of us experienced the "loss of words" problems at first, but learned to adapt and became used to it. But grandma is in her 70s and its not as easy for her. However, in the past month, I have been experiencing the same thing--memory loss, calling a place or object the wrong name, and poor concentration. I feel like I can't even read today. I was taking 150mg and thought I was pregnant so I started decreasing my dose down to 100mg to wean off. I'm not pregnant and I'm thinking of discontinuing the Topamax anyway. It's bad enough when I can't remember things at home, I can't work like this. I have always raved about how great Topamax is and that if it kept my head from hurting, I would take it forever. Now I feel like I'm in the early stages of dementia.

Hi, I googled Yasmin as, like GM/Gabrielle, I have problems with hyperpigmentation on my upper lip and my chin (making me look like I have the beginnings of a beard and a mustache, highly attractive!!) I took Yasmin for about a year from 2002-3. I have surfed the net before at various points curious about Yasmin, but decided that I was just unlucky in taking Yasmin and it was one of those things. Having read all the posts here I am disgusted that this drug is available at all. Yes, we are all guinea pigs and yes, the doctors who prescribe this medication and others like it have no idea of the long term effects or maybe they are not really that bothered? How the hell are they made available anyway? Pharmaceutical companies literally get away with murder, to say nothing of their moral responsibility with regard to vivisection. As soon as I started to notice the pigmentation and connected it with the Yasmin I saw my doctor who immediately took me off it,warning me that it shouldn't get any worse but it may not go away. It does get worse if exposed to any sun, so I use a strong sublock and skin lightening cream all year round which thus far has only lightened the skin slightly (I live in the UK). I'm getting married this year and it will be a shame to feel self conscious about my skin, but having read these posts I feel so lucky to only have this to "worry" about - this is minor in comparison to life threatening blood clots. My grandmother died from thrombosis - maybe my vanity on this occasion has saved my life.

I take the Lisonopril and HCTZ and within a few days, I started experiencing dizziness (bad case of Vertigo), fatigue. My doctor took me off. It has been a week now, and I am still suffering from the side effects. Crappy I tell ya! I won't take that stuff anymore. God will just have to take me, because I am done. A co-worker told me her doctor prescribed it, but her grandmother said take Ordorless Garlic tablets. That was a year ago. No more High BP. I am trying that. Won't hurt.

The nurse practitioner i go to see for Worker's Compensation gave me this medicine to see if it will work on my bulging disks, severe compression, arthritis, and degenerative disk disease, to reduce any inflammation I have. I took 3 pills at once at lunch on the day I started and I couldn't get rid of the taste for hours! Then later I noticed a flushed feeling, which is supposed to be normal. I then started to get really annoyed with my 3 year old son. I stopped taking the meds that night and started taking them in the morning. I again felt flushed and easily angered by either my wife or my son. My problem is this: Either take this medication as prescribed, go through the bad side effects or take my chances with the steroid shots and hope I don't develop worse back problems? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I was on Lisinopril for 10 months and got really sick and it took forever to realize it was this drug. In finding out all of this info we found that my grandmother was also on the drug and we quickly got her off of it. My grandmother's doctor told us that this drug was originally made from snake venom and then it was changed to SYNTHETIC snake venom which for some reason has caused more problems for people people. Synthetic or not, i don't want snake venom in my body and it has been a long 4 month recovery from this. My adrenal glands were totally shot along with horrible stomach problems, memory issues, leg pains and many, many more.........

Wow this page has helped me so much! I really thought I had lost my mind! I started these pills 2 months ago. I'm not sexually active but have very severe periods due to an ovarian disease. My OBGYN thought birth control would be the best choice. At first everything was great the cramps(which lasted 3 weeks out of the month for me) were gone! my mood did change. I've always been a very happy person and all at once I was this mean crazed person! I couldn't think about anything without feeling mad or angry or just wanting to cry. Then last week I got my first period after taking the pill I was in shock because I didn't even know it was coming. 4 days long I was so happy. I was off my period Wednesday and awoke Thanksgiving morning with the worst pain I've ever felt in my entire life. I went to the ER and they thought it was my gallbladder I've been having tests done all week. Well Sunday I got my period again!!! It's so much more intense then I've ever had in my entire life! It's now day 5 of my second period in 2 weeks and I was talking with my grandmother when she suggested maybe the whole problem was my BC. I read the little info pack the pills come with and was in complete shock. I decided to look up side effects and am so glad I did. I'm calling my doctor first thing tomorrow so maybe finally something can be done. Since I started this pill I've lost my appetite and been tired and bitchy nonstop! But with not eating I've gained weight! It's horrible!! SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE! Good luck to everyone else whose coming off of the pill or just started it!

My 3 year old is on 5mg of singular daily for her constant allergy issues and has had NO trouble at all with it. Her personality has not changed.. she's happy, outgoing, friendly and MUCH better than she was before she started the medication. Prior to starting she was constantly dripping from her nose, she had both ears filled with fluid, had bags under her eyes and was tired and grumpy all the time, due to allergies we could not get under control with other over the counter or prescription meds. Since being on Singulair she's been 100% better than she was. I'm sad to hear that others are having so much trouble with it, but I can say that I am happy my little girl is feeling better.

I was put in the hospital November 8th, they were giving me Levaquin through IV's and then after they seriously hurt the back of my hand, I demanded to take meds by mouth-I had already had around 5 days of this through the IV-I was diagnosed at the emergency room with a ruptured appendix, and it had been that way for 3 weeks-it took 1 doctor and 2 hospitals to diagnose that!! really makes we wonder about the medical profession these days! so when I was released from the hospital after a 6 day stay and appendix still in me, they gave me a prescription for Levaquin for another 10 days-well, I took it for 8 days and had to stop all together-I have been so weak and from my knees down kill me! I have bad joint pain in my knees and hips, but I thought maybe this could be from sitting in a hospital bed for all those days-now that I've read all these complaints, I'm wondering if I should have taken this stuff at all! I hadn't taken any kind of antibiotics for over 3 years-have been ok up til now. I am so scared of the pain and tingling in my feet, thought maybe it could be blood clots in my legs from not moving around as much as I'm used to-my grandmother recently passed from a blood clot and my cousin also at the age of 33 died from a clot after knee surgery! so what do I do?? is it a clot or is it the dreadful drug "Levaquin" that is causing me all this pain?? any suggestions out there?? and I have no insurance either! what a terrible experience!

i started taking yaz in June because ive tried almost every other birth control pill, and patch and my mood and depression seemed to be only when i was on one of these. I wanted to go on that mirana IUD however my doctor told me i shouldn't because i have not had kids, im not married and im only 19 however it seemed anything i tried gave me the same side effects. So they put me on YAZ instead, at first it was great shorter periods, little to no cramps, but now 5 months and i hate it. I live with my boyfriend now and when before my sex drive was high I have ABSOLUTELY NO SEX DRIVE LEFT AND IM ONLY 19, WHAT HAPPENED TO IT. And whats worse my moodiness has come back for example at the store today i lost it and started crying when they didn't have the coat i wanted to buy. I couldn't control myself i completely lost it. i don't know what to do with myself anymore. My emotions are worse then ever before i want them to put me on something that has no hormones my body cant take it. can anyone give me any suggestions.

okay ladies, I'm not sure what you all are experiencing since I'm not a doctor. But I will tell you that a huge amount of your symptoms can either be age related or post baby related. I have four children ages 15, 6, 5, 3.
The beginning stages of the Mirena granted are not pretty and can last for months. I was having a terrible time with my periods and was out of commission for the first three days of every cycle each month. I have had my Mirena for almost 2 years now and am going on 41. I had to wait it out for about 6 months before seeing any huge improvements. I will tell you this, over eating and NOT eating a healthy diet of fruits and veggies will aggravate bloating and mood swings. You could have these with or without the IUD. I never lost my hair unless I was 3-6 months post partum.
A diet rich in potato chips, bread, meats and cheesy pizza will show on your hair skin and nails. The typical American diet will leave even your special guy moody. As we age the expectation is that we will always feel 18 and I have had to come to grips with how my body ages and how I take care of it. A new baby whether it is your 1st or 4th will cause unwanted fatigue. I still struggle with fatigue because not everyone sleeps thru the night including my hubby so my sleep gets disrupted a lot. There are several things you can do to help your Mirena work for you and not scare you. I NEVER lose my sex drive unless I fail to exercise even a little each week and have fought back with a super charged diet. I'm not perfect at it but boy does it ever help. Sugar has a HUGE impact on your hormones and fatigue level. Limit it. Got to bed as early as you can and avoid late night TV. Don't give your precious zzz's to some silly show that won't help you be a better person any way. Get moving and add a little (or a lot) of weight training to your days- your sex drive will soar and your body will thank you. Pray for wisdom. God will help. Sometimes he uses fatigue to slow me down and focus on what is really important. Granted not everyone can handle an IUD. But if you try a little self care and be patient you might find that it works for you. I had heavy bleeding and at my age the doc said I got it just in time because from 40-50 I could expect more of the same. I am grateful for it because I felt like I was dying every time I had a period. A little fatigue is worth the benefits. Keep in mind that even your little ones get tired. They need naps and they are kids. We need rest in the afternoons too. It's okay to stay off the phone and rest a little if you can. My energy drainers are TV, negative people, talking on the phone too much, eating too much especially when I'm not really hungry, the wrong foods when I do eat, and not getting sleep or exercise. Start small and see if over time it doesn't make a big difference before you throw in the towel. Blessings to all and especially the new mommies.

I have been on birth control for 11 years, never having any severe problems. I had a baby 3 years ago and was taking Yaz. With being on Yaz I had a migraine about every 3 months. My Dr. suggested me trying the NuvaRing. I was on it for 2 months and my bleeding was uncontrollable. During the time of switching bc, my grandmother got really sick and I lost my job. I was concerned about the heavy bleeding and clotting and questioned my dr. and they just told me to hold on for another month or so, it was probably from the stress. I changed from the NR to Seasonique, still the bleeding was uncontrollable. I never had menses like this in my life. Going back to the dr. I had a pelvic examine and they just gave me provera to help stop the bleeding. Well it worked for a week and then here we go again! After about 4-5 months of this cycle I decided to stop taking any bc and let my body try to get back to normal. About a month later I started hemoraging and had to go to the er. They kept me for 2 days and found that I have a fibroid on my uterus. I also had to get a blood transfusion. The fibroid is pushing on my uterus causing my uterus to be double in size. WTH? Where did this come from? I am now having to take the Lupron shot to help shrink the fibroid and hopefully in 3 months I can have it removed. I can only blame this on the NR. I NEVER had problems like this before. It is truly discouraging. I advise anyone thinking about the NR to clearly STAY AWAY!!! I know have several medical bills all from trying to stay away from migraines. I can deal with those much easier than what I have been thru.

After finding this website weeks ago and stopping my Lisinopril I am still suffering some pretty major stomach issues but at least I feel like my mind isn't as scattered as it was and a lot of the other symptoms seem to be subsiding. I still take a look at this website 2-3 times a week and I am amazed that almost everyday someone is posting how sick this drug has made them. I really feel bad for people who don't have the access to this website and are stuck with the debilitating side effects and don't have anywhere to turn. Why oh why is this poison still being given out without warning!! Thank you to EVERYONE who took the time to put their horrible stories on here to save someone else misery!! I could not believe the people close to me who are also on this after I realized what it was doing to me. Most of the people are on it for HBP but there are also lots of people on it for diabetes and my grandmother was on it for fluid on her lungs. She is now being weaned off of it.

My grandmother had to stop taking Lipitor. We took her to the ER when I thought she was having a stroke. Her legs were extremely week, her arms were shaking and she was having trouble talking. She felt like she had the flu. She was hospitalized and the diagnosis was she had hepatitis that was caused by the Lipitor. Once she stopped taking the drug she gradually recovered but it was a long road for her.

my grandmother started prednisone the day after the fourth of july and that Sunday in the car she thought the radio was on, but when she went to turn it off it was off, she hears joy to the world all the time. Sometimes its louder than others but its always there. She started out on 40 mg a day for polymyalgia, now she is being tapered off of it but her doctor says shes not a typical patient and there is no way the prednisone triggered it. I think it has to be it cause it happened about three days after she started taking it. Anyone know anything about this kinda thing happening?******

I am 27 and had Mirena put in about 2 months ago during my 6 week check-up after my second child. I had been put on a mild antidepressant for "baby blues" only a week or so after my son was born. So I didn't notice the mood swings so much after I had it put in. But after gaining back some of the weight I had lost, I decided to forego the Lexipro for a while so that I could take diet pills to help me lose the weight. I expected to be more moody, but I didn't expect anything like this. I cry at the drop of a hat, I freak out on my 2-year old unexpectedly, and I have NO sex drive. It is WAY worse than before. I also have been to the doctor for problems with my knee. It hurts all the time. My other joints ache pretty bad at night, and I have never had joint problems before this. The past two days I have had a stabbing pain in my abdomen. It hurts when I move or sit down. My stomach is very swollen, and now I am wondering if it is the bloating that many of you are talking about, or if it is swollen from an infection that may or may not be causing the pain. What do I do?! I hate not to stick it out for a while, because I really don't feel as if I have much of an alternative except for something perminant. My mother AND my grandmother got pregnant on the pill, and I can't remember to take them at the exact same time every day. UGH!

My grandfather at 86-years-old was prescribed Avelox for bronchitis. The warning on the medication listed by Bayer, the company that makes the drug, states that extreme caution should be used when administering to the elderly. He was also prescribed prednisone, which is a drug that is listed that should NEVER be mixed with Avelox. My grandfather took his own life on April 22, 2008, with no warning signs. He was fine when my grandmother left to go to the store and when she returned, she found him. No other family should have to go through what ours has been through in the past nine days!!!! Do not take AVELOX!!!! We just want to prevent one family from going through what we have been through by warning people about this horrible drug. Doctors need to pay more attention to warning labels and drug interaction- someone needs to stand-up and take some responsibility for medications that harm rather then help!

My 5yo son is one week removed from Singulair, and we are starting to see a gradual improvement. When I first started reading these posts, I just sat and cried. My son started the meds last fall for allergy induced asthma and his behavoir has gotten progressively worse this January and February, so much so that I contacted the pediatrician to start the process of having him see a counselor. He was fine before last August. I blamed his problems in the fall to his adjustment to kindergarten, then my grandmother got sick and passed away February, so I thought this time his obsession with death and bad behavior at school was related to her. I never once even thought it was the Singulair. Looking back I realized the behavoir coincided with his Singulair use (I took him off it in December because there was nothing in the air to cause him to cough and he was fine). In January we started back up full steam ahead and the doctor increased dose...Hello!! He was so angry sometimes and had a multitude of the symptoms listed on this site. He would constantly say he hated school. He chewed his shirts repeatedly, actually chewing holes in the neck and sleeves, he would blink his eyes weirdly which I have equate to the "tick" other people described. He would say he was stupid, that no one loved him, that no kids wanted to play with him and that he was an idiot. He said he wished he was in heaven and wanted to leave this world. My mom found him wrapped in blankets over spring break and when she asked what he was doing he said he was trying to suffocate himself. His crying wasn't even a normal cry, it was in a word: soulful. It would make me cry just hearing it because it was such a mournful sound. At his aftercare program he would try and leave and say he wanted to get hit by a car, they actually had to restrain him. He had instances of aggression with other kids in school, which resulted in phone calls from the teacher and principal. Again I thought it was related to the death in the family and him having no other way of expressing his anger. I even blamed the other parent thinking they were overreacting - embarrassed about that now to say the least. I started getting names of dr's to get grief counseling to determine if it was the loss or if he was in the throes of depression. Then I see the news about Singulair and looked it up on the web since he was on it. Talk about taking your breath away. Then his stomach cramps made sense too. I would have to massage his stomach to make it feel better, thinking it was the milk causing it. People can say we are all making this up, or the posts are fake...even his allergist said they feel the benefits outweight the risks, but until you live it you really just don't get it. I took him off it that night. Each day is getting better. Today was a great day and I am cautiously optimistic for tomorrow. He was happy. Even his sister remarked about what a good mood he was in and that he wasn't whining or crying. Putting him to bed tonight he told me he loved me more than tomato pie...and in his world that's at the top of everything The sad thing is that the medicine works for the asthma and controlled his coughing. The cough is now back in force so it is a double edged sword. It's amazing how similiar the symptoms are with other kids. I guess hindsight truly is 20/20 huh?

Oh my god!!!! My poor daughter. My daughter Karilynn has been taking this drug for about 8 months now. She is 2 1/2 years old now. All of the sudden she had a drastic change in behavior, sleep and eating patterns. She began with sleep problems. She would wake up in the middle of the night screaming that the green monsters were after her. I chocked it up to night terrors that weren't explained. Then she started waking up screaming that her "bottom" hurt but would point to her stomach. She quit eating, cried all the time, started acting out randomly. My little girl who had never had discipline problems started randomly hitting and biting me. It wasn't even when I would discipline her for something. She would literally come up and bite me out of no where. She throws huge tantrums now. The daycare lady even asked me if something was going on at home because she was doing strange things there also. Not knowing what was wrong (but trusting my mother instinct that there was SOMETHING wrong) I started to think that maybe she was being abused. The night mares, the random pain.... I even had a breif moment where I thought my grandmother was hurting her. I want to throw up thinking about that now. I took her to the pediatrician, who ran every test imaginable to "rule out any physical reason" that could be causing all of these symptoms at once. Test after test came back negative. I actually have the number to the psychologist that does "play therapy" sitting in front of me because we were seriously terrified that someone was hurting her. Little did I know it was us!!!! I called tha asthma dr. yesterday after seeing the news story and he told me that my concerns weren't really valid and that it sounded like she was being a "typical" two year old. That really made me angry. After reading all of these accounts there is very little doubt in my mind that it is the medicine. It all makes sense now. Halleluah if it is such a simple fix!!! I was worried my daughter was being ABUSED!!!! What an unimaginable feeling for any parent!! I quit the singulair last night against the asthma doctors "urging" and gave the daycare lady a heads up. Its sad to say but I pray this is all that is wrong with my little girl!!! If someone files a class action suit please let me know.
