I was prescribed 20mg 3x daily for five days to treat "Reactive Airway Disease/Bronchitis." Yesterday was my 5th and final day of taking the medication and I noticed both of my shins began hurting for no apparent reason when I walked. I didn't think it had anything to do with Prednisone. Then, last night, I suddenly felt weak as if my blood sugar had dropped tremendously and ate a grapefruit while trembling with weakness to stop this feeling. Again, I made no association with this and Prednisone. Last night as well, I noticed that my shoulders suddenly became achey on both sides of my backbone for no apparent reason. This morning, I woke up and the pain from my shoulders had spread to my hips and the entire area between my shoulders and hips is tender to the touch. Today, after not taking any of the medication, I feel mentally blurry, have moments of what feels to be low blood sugar and flu-like symptoms. I'm also still experiencing the muscle pain in my back and hips although my shins seem better. My pharmacist told me to call my Dr. and seemed surprised to learn I was not weaned off this medication. All of the symptoms I have described above are side-effects that should be reported to a Dr. immediately, according to my pharmacist. Another less-serious side-effect that began yesterday is swelling in my feet, hands, stomach and face. I also had diarrhea today.

I have been taking this medicine for a UTI for a few days and today all of the sudden I had an uncontrollable need to pee every few minutes. When I did there was a burning sensation and the immediate need to pee again. So I looked up the medication and saw online that you are supposed to drink a whole glass of water with each pill. I started chugging water and the burning and need to pee went away after and hour or so. Very strange, but maybe it will help someone else.

My husband started taking Simvastatin about 6 weeks ago. Since taking it he has been experiencing sexual problems. Is this related to the drug? It has never been an issue before.

I was prescribed 42 pills (20 days) of 10 mg Prednisone which I am to take beginning with 4 pills for four days and steadily decreasing every four days down to four 1/2 pill the last four days. I took my first dose yesterday and was told to drink lots of water. I do not wish to gain weight nor have a moon face. My doctor does not feel this will affect me in that way, but may have water retention (swelling). I am 73, and this regiment of Prednisone was prescribed to decrease inflammation due to a possible siatic nerve problem, which is causing extreme pain in my left leg. The pain is excruciating when I get up in the morning but eases down by mid morning with some pain all day and some nights if I move just the wrong way.Does anyone have a suggestion for the best foods to eat and what to avoid? I read that grapefruit juice may be beneficial.

I
I am currently taking a 40mg lipotor. I have devloped chronic hives mosttly on my arms and thighs. The itchng is so bad that I scratch these welts in my sleep. I have been on Plavix 75 mg since my first cardio-chatherization which has made my blood so thin that I actually bleed when I scratch. I'm now in a itch and scratch cycle that keeps me from sleeping. My doctor originally started me on 10 mg. This was before I started having clogged coronary arteries'. I am 74 years old. I have just had my second bypass operation. I started on lipitor 10 mg about eight years ago. I developed a hive like welt in my groin area. This welt or hive itched so bad that I damaged the skin. I went to a dermatoligist and the only answer he had after a biopsy was that it was probably Lichon Planus. I had a triple pass July 18 2007. That is when my doctor increased my lipitor dosage to 40 mg. He had increased it to 20 mg several years. I finally realized that it may be the 40 mg dose that causes me to wake about three hours later with Hives and itching that is so bad that even scratching doesen't relieve the itch.
I have seen two dermotoligsts. They can find nothing that I am allergic to. This condition has gotten progressivly worse over the last three years. I am taking Zanix and Benedryl I have eliminated all of my other medicines as the cause.
The only thing I could see as a possible cause is acute anxiety. After seeing my family doctor he prescribed the Zanix.
My last hope for relief is to get off Lipitor. I stopped taking it two days ago
and I already see a change in this chronic hive condition; I am assuming that it may take a while to see if I have solved my problem.
Incidently I started takng Zocor about three years ago instead of the Lipitor and I had such severe neck and shoulder pain that it was obvious Zocor was the cause.
zocor was the cause

Sore toes. Legs swollen but left leg around ankle swells so bad that skin burns. Twitching of muscles and charley-horses so bad in my ribs that I can't wash myself in the shower without having to quickly stand straight up or my ribs will crack. Twitching of fingers due to muscle cramps. Scratching the cheeks of my face until bloody when I am not paying attention because of itching. Can't stay awake if not pre-occupied with a physical task. I have fallen asleep while someone was talking to me or while watching TV. Have fallen asleep while driving. This is over and over and over even when well rested. Feeling of something terribly wrong about one to two hours after taking my pill. Like I am dying. Severe chills, racing heart, starved for air. Can't get enough air. So bad sometimes, I am afraid I will have to call 911. During sleep, constantly having to urinate buckets overnight. Up almost every hour and when I go I must pee a half a gallon. Incredible thirst next day for pickle juice or kosher style pickles or orange or grapefruit juice. Plain water, coffee, milk, or tea doesn't satisfy. My doctor brushed off my complaints so I've now dropped him and have set up an appointment with a different one.

THIS DRUG IS VERY ADDICTIVE IN THAT IT IS SO HARD TO COME OFF OF. I HAVE BEEN TAKEING IT FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND EVERYTIME I COME OFF OF IT I HAVE THE SAME SIDE EFFECTS. FILL DIZZY TUNNEL FISION NOISES AND LIGHT DISTURB ME TIGHT MUSTLES AND I MENTALLY JUST FILL BAD . IT LAST FOR ABOUT TWO WEEKS. AND YOU WILL FILL BACK TO NORMAL. NO MATTER WHAT THE DOCTORS SAY ABOUT LOWERING YOUR DOSAGES IT IS STILL JUST AS HARD. I WOULD SUGGEST IF YOU GET OFF OF IT DONT GET BACK ON IT. JUST BECAUSE YOUR HAVEING A BAD DAY IT DOES NOT TAKE LONG TO GET BACK INTO YOUR SYSTEM. THE BEST WAY TO DEAL WITH THIS HORRIBLE SIDE EFFECT IS PICK YOURSELF AND MAKE YOURSELF GO. I KNOW ITS YARD BUT IT WORKS.

Glad that i found this page today... now a Zocor death story (i am from Hungary, Europe btw). My mother died in Dec 2004, cause of death was Zocor induced rhabdomyolisis (muscle breadown) of course the doctors are not willing to write down the connection . She was 61, and had been taking Zocor for cca 3 years, the reason was relatively higher blood pressure and elevated cholesterol levels... so her cardiologist put him on 20mg. Her physical condition was excellent, an energetic woman, was on a healthy diet for several years, exercising regularly (10 km running 3x week) , apperance looked like someone in the age of 47-52, everything predestined her to live until age 80 (just like my grandmother who died 5 months before that....)
Two weeks before her death she started drinking fresh grapefruit juice (one small glass only, as GPs advise this during winter time, everyone knows that ...) . First she had muscle pain in the arms, which progressed further in 3 days (GP said it is rheumatic cause) . Then after 1-2 days she was hardly able to move her legs / arms. At the hospital she was examined for all kinds of other possible causes (trombose etc), then it was finally discovered the ultimate and very serious side effect of statins (muscle breadown) was the cause. CK levels were around 180.000 (!) (doctors didnt believe first) , then the treatment started but it progressed so quickly, in 5 days she died. As the autopsy reported, the cause was complete liver function stop caused by muscle breadown and internal bleedings.
As my father later told me, she had the usual side effects for a year now (dizziness / memory loss / muscle pain / sleeping problems) , but of course cardiologist denied all of these being related to Zocor .
I hope one day this killer drug will be withdrawn and a lawsuit will happen...
PLEASE everyone make sure that if you experience serious muscle pains and you are on Zocor - there is a connection and this might be fatal, ACT quickly. Brown urine tells that muscle is breaking down, and tell your doctor that a blood test for CK level is the first to do...
thats it :(

i have been taking 5 mg of simvastatin and recently had pain in lower left hand side of my back. i did not notice that on the pill bottle it says no grapefruit juice. i dont understand that at all. after reading the endless horror stories concerning this drug, i am very disturbed. i had been taking another rx to do the same thing from the VA and i was told that this particular rx was costing the government too much. i will consult with my doctor asap and find out what the story is on this rx and have the fear of wondering is the fat killing me or the rx. thanks for all the input from others who have commented on this medicine.

Someone told me you shouldn't eat Grapefruits or drink Grapefruit juice if your taking Norvasc, is this correct, as i eat a l/2 one at least every morning for breakfast plus sometimes eat one during the day for just a treat. Please advise, thought may have found something on side effects about it, but unable to do so. Thank you. Wilma

if you wish to get rid of the insomnia
they have found that acidic food drinks et cetera cause the kidneys to vent it more rapidly
so a few hours before you wish to sleep drink orange or grapefruit juice.
or gatoraid which has citric acid.
ot take potasium citrate and drink a bunch of water.
i have tried this and it works

I had horrible side effects (body aches, joint and muscle pain, headaches, hallucinations, insomnia, anxiety, heart palpitations, etc.). I did some research and I am currently trying to detox using calcium (tums or vitamins), magnesium (liquid antacids or vitamins), orange juice, apple juice, and grapefruit juice which all limit the absorption of the drug. A high protein and high fiber diet with no refined sugars is suppose to help. Drink plenty of water and add a B-Complex to help with Anemia (another side effect). Apparently, it takes three weeks to eliminate from your system. Good Luck and God Bless.
