I stumbled onto this site while trying to find a reason for these headaches I get sometimes for no" apparent" reason. Imagine my surprise to find your testimonies about your lives on warfarin sodium. At 38, I had surgery to repair a congenital defect of the aortic valve and had to have a hema-shield graph to repair an aneurysm of the aorta. That was in Oct.2002. Warfarin has been a part of my life since then. I was also put on anti-depressants because my family Dr. thought I was depressed since I repeatedly complained of not feeling well.(I took myself off the anti-depressants a couple of years ago.) Extreme fatigue , serious memory issues, thinning hair, dizzy spells and numerous other ailments continue to plague me.Add to that a large weight gain ...and, well, you get the picture. If anyone knows of an alternative to taking this "poison", PLEASE, PLEASE let me know. I just WANT MY LIFE BACK!!! I actually cried after reading this blog. As I explained to my husband, I suppose it was from the sheer relief of knowing I was not going insane!!!

I began taking Yasmin after the birth of my son in Sept 06. Keep in mind i have had ultra sounds of my legs to check arterial flow as i work in ultrasound. In april of 08 I went to the er because my toe was in excruciating pain and turning blue. I went in for an angiogram immediately where they found the femoral arterie of each leg was completely blocked. In the leg with the blue toe they put stents in. The stents occluded the same day. Then I had to go to another hospital to have bypass surgery since stents cant be reopened. The first surgery took 9 hours.. The bypass graph occluded within an hour. They took me back into surgery for another 6 hours. I had to have a plastic graph placed which doesn't last as long. I am only 33 years old so they can only guess how many replacements I will need to have of that graph. After dealing with the head of hematology for both Northwestern Memorial and University of Illinois they both concluded that it was a severe effect of oral contraceptives. I will have the next leg done in a year or 2. They think once the drug gets out of my system that I won't have the problem with immediate clotting. I will be on warfarin and plavix for about another 18 months since my body has been through so much already i cant take the chance of clotting again or I will loose the leg.

I am 21 years old.1 year ago I had an ACL transplant. I worked hard to get my knee back to strength. It felt good except slight clicking in my knee near the lateral meniscus. I had a second MRI and it showed the new ACL graph healed proper. My doctor gave me a cortisone shot in my knee where the clicking was to see if maybe it would help. I do a lot of strength training and that week it felt better than ever. I went to play paint ball on the weekend like I always do and after sliding on my knees for a few hours (even with knee pads) it started to hurt worse then ever. Then nest day( witch is now) my knee is swollen and hurts to even walk on it. It hasn't swollen up for over 7 months. I don't know if the cortisone shot was such a good idea.

I had a kidney transplant a year and half ago, and had to take Prednisone as one of my post-transplant med's. I was on it for about 2 months and I went through a lot of the same side effects mentioned by other people, increased appetite and weight gain in odd places, sleeplessness, and acne. Then recently I had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic and was again prescribed prednisone for three weeks, but this time the acne is so bad it looks like a rash, and it's all over my back, chest, neck especially, and on my face. I can deal with it because I realize it's what I need to do, and I am grateful that there is a drug that can treat the symptoms from the allergy, but I am wondering how long it will take for the acne to clear up once I finish the 3 weeks? Does anyone know how long it takes when you've been on it for that amount of time? Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks.

I went to the doctor because I had a stopped up nose . He told me that a kenalog shot would help me. I got the shot and within two hours my left hip and buttocks were very discolored and burning really bad. I returned to the doctor the next day and he gave me some cream to put on it. The cream did not help at all. I kept going back to the doctor for about a week and he said that it would clear up on it"s own. Well, it did not clear up. It just got worse. I finally had to go to the hospital because the pain got so bad. The doctor at the hospital was very surprised because my skin was dead from the shot . He called in a surgeon and they did emergency surgery on me that night. They removed the left side of my hip. I have been in and out of the hospital for the last 5 weeks and had 2 surgery's. I have also had to have a skin graph from my leg to cover up th sight on my hip. Now I have to wait for this to heal and have plastic surgery to make my hip look back to normal. This was all because of the shot.
