I just spent 8 days in the hospital (2 days in ICU) with multiple PEs (blood clots in my lungs) thanks to the NuvaRing. I had used it for 11 weeks and had symptoms of the blood clots for 6 weeks. My doctor was originally treating me for asthma because of my chest tightness and extreme shortness of breath. I do not smoke and am in great health otherwise. The ER physician instructed me to take the ring out immediately as I was being transported to ICU. Every MD that I saw at the hospital pointed to the Nuva Ring as the culprit. This thing is dangerous...don't ignore the symptoms!!!

Help me figure out what im doing wrong?

I'm 21, i exercise constantly, I have never had children. i have what I'd like to think of as "a very healthy normally functioning uterus". extremely regular periods, barely get any cramps. I'm in great health, except i drink and recently picked up smoking . I got my Mirena inserted 3weeks ago exactly.

this is my mini journal:
1st day:(3/16/09) got it inserted and they gave me antibiotics to prevent infections. i had very light spotting and mild cramping. Advil did the trick

2nd& 3rd day:
like nothing ever happened. i was feeling great.

4th day:
I finished taking my antibiotics.I bicycled for about 2hours. i got home and i had cramps more painful than usual. spotting got darker

5thday: (4/20/09)
i had a very sharp pain from the bottom my ribs cage to my belly button felt like my organs in that area where gonna pop or like someone punched me really hard. i had a drink that night and it really didn't help. it would come and go all day. spotting was heavier but not dark

6thday: (4/21/09)
it was my 21st birthday so naturally i had to drink but i was really hesitant because i still had the same pain. i had a couple drinks smoke a couple cigarettes and the pain went away and never felt it again. spotting faded and was pinkish color

(4/22/09)-(05/02/09)
to pain no nothing spotting was becoming clearer over these days

05/03/09:
was my friends birthday party I walked around town everywhere. i had no car and no bike and i had to run errands for the party... grocery store, bank,...everywhere! my legs were so sore when i finally got home.
at the party and had maybe 3 drinks and smoked a lot of cigarettes. the next morning i was woken up by in the worst pain ever (i wasn't hungover) its felt like someone was sticking a knife up my vagina into my uterus. i was bleeding a lot and it was really dark i was in tears. i didn't have ANY type of aspirin or anything at the time. it would come and go for about 3-4 hours. finally i got some Tylenol and the pain went away haven't felt it since.

05/04-today: drank, smoked, no exercise, no pain, since then spotting is almost clear

now im wondering if the pains or cramps were from really from excessive exercise?
does that mean i cant exercise now or ride my bike? :(

Ran into friend at grocery store with mystery illness. Docs attribute it to Agent Orange exposure. Been at death's doorstep for a year. Hands were extremely cold and has little energy. Showed up one day at golf course with oxygen bottle! Asked him if he had taken Levaquin. Unfortunately had. Docs again fail to link antibiotic exposure to his ailments.
I wonder how many illnesses and deaths this poison has caused? Why does the FDA allow this crap? Do you people realize that the average person is clueless about the side effects of drugs like this. Put total confidence and their well being in the hands of ignorant docs and profit crazed drug companies.
Ignorant oncologist failed to link my dad's symptoms to Levaquin, instead attributed them to b-cell lymphoma which just happened to suddenly appear. Rituxan and numerous other drugs (Heparin, Lasix, Gamma globulin, Tylenol, antibiotics, Insulin, steroids, Flowmax, etc.) was too much. A fiasco, people think he died of lymphoma. Was walking three miles a day before taking Levaquin, for an undiagnosed lung infection.

My Mom (87) who was in great health given her age, was given Avelox for a urinary tract infection. She has developed severe side effects that include shortness of breath, chest pressure, (not chest pain)swelling of her esophagus & eye lids, confusion/agitation, dry mouth, complaints of twitching in her mouth.
The worse case of all the symptoms has been the swelling of the esophagus and eyelids. Her eyes are swollen shut and she labors to swallow & talk. Eating is a monumental task.
She is currently hospitalized and the medical team seems to be having a hard time accepting this as an allergic reaction to the Avelox. They have run series of tests to look for other things such as pnuenomina, heart issues and stroke issues. So far the tests have revealed nothing out of the ordinary. One would think that they would start treatment with steroids or another anti-allergic treatment but they seemed convinced that the Avelox is a non issue because she only took 2 doses @ 400 mg each starting Saturday & Sunday (11/29-30). This ordeal started Sunday early evening.
If anyone else has experienced specifically swelling of the throat & eyes please post!

If you like yourself, DO NOT choose this form of birth control!!!!!! I experienced several side effects almost immediately within my first cycle of this "should be outlawed" drug including a cyst on my ovary that burst (PAINFUL!!!!!), very hormonal PMS and periods (like going through puberty again), heavy bleeding and clotting, swelling like I experienced after delivering my children - yes, even sitting was uncomfortable, painful intercourse, muscle aches, and cramping like afterbirth. Most of these symptoms subsided after I did the math and freed myself of this health hazard. All I have described sound hormone related and logical but wait, there is more . . . while on the NuvaRing, I also developed a tumor in my leg that attached to my bone and required surgery. I was blessed that it was benign but at first was told it was malignant by bone tumor specialists from three leading Manhattan Hospitals! My children were 3 and 1 at the time so you can imagine how I felt! Also, a condition that has not gone away after 1 year and 4 months of no more NuvaRing is chronic sinus problems. These sinus problems first developed when I made the mistake of using this venomous drug. I myself thought there could be no correlation until I went on line and read that other women suffered with sinus issues after using the NuvaRing. I have developed sinusitis that I've had no luck in treating holistically and these severe infections have been resilient to most antibiotics. I've finally faced this sinus issue and have scheduled a CT scan and ENT appointment for next week so I hope I can get to the root of the problem as I am sick of feeling sick! By the way, I'm extremely fit, a very healthy eater, and was in GREAT health before use of the NuvaRing! I'm writing this because I would not wish my experience on anyone and wish I had read comments like this PRIOR to making this poor decision. I so dislike this drug that I have to turn-off the TV when the commercial comes on. Again if you like yourself, DO NOT use the NuvaRing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The medical professional is particularly unhelpful in this matter. Talking with medical personnel about fluoroquinolone poisoning is a go-nowhere exercise. In an era when Monsanto genetically-modifies our seed stock you might think medical caregivers would advise us in advance that their prescription antibiotics mess around with their patients' DNA. (IT's that deregulation thing, yes?)

I experienced painful calves and a strange dream, possibly a nightmare, immediately, e.g., on the very same night, after having injested one Levaquin dosage for a prostate condition and maybe a year after separately having taken cipro for a week to combat traveler's diarrhea. The post-Levaquin early evening dream was strange insofar as I rarely drempt, and I never recall having been roused to wakefulness by a dream shortly after having gone to bed. Early on I did NOT associate Levaquin with the really terrible symptoms that I experienced within 60 days of having injested Levaquin.

My wheels fell off when I entered a period of insomnia. I thought my sleeplessness was stress-related because my health history includes a major depressive episode 11 years ago. I presented myself for help to a psychiatrist who prescribed a small dose of an atypical antipsychotic as a sleeping aid. My drug-induced sleep felt like a coma that lasted each night for a couple of hours. There were heart palpitations, agitation, panic attacks, racing heart, racing thoughts, insomnia, depression, paranoia, poor cognition, body shuddering, muscle twitching, night sweats, and pain in both Achilles heals. The symptoms filled a note book page. I felt like Jean D'Arc who was being burned chemically at the stake from the inside out. I would rise in the morning and then minutes later fall back into bed. I could stare off into space and completely lose track of time. I could not even find the right words in mid-sentence. I could not fill-in the registration papers when I presented myself for a second opinion at Mayo Clinic. I became a full babbling idiot. My wife said that I had retreated or devolved into some kind of primate or ape who communicated solely his emotional states by means of eye contact only.

I asked my doctors if the sum of levaquin and cipro had pushed me over my peak quinolone tolerance level. Or was it the medicine that the psychiatrist had prescribed to make me sleep? . I was no stranger to depression and I knew my symptoms were not merely emotional or psychological in nature. Why did I always feel as if I had been poisoned? The psychiatrist decided my paranoia warranted higher med levels. I declined the advice and stopped taking the meds altogether. My anxiety today is lower, my sleep is improved but fitfull. My neck aches. My head feels as if it were in a vise. It's not a headache and it's not painful, but there is a tingling, crawling, scorching sensation at my forehead and behind my eyes as if someone had beat me with a pillow and then filled my head with novocaine.

I'm not sure there's a moral to the story. It might sound a tad over-the-top, but I think we're faced by a pharmaceutical plague. There's really no excuse for the absence of informed consent. There is nowhere above ground, e.g., nowhere on main street, and no-one with whom you can speak in order to take the full measure of fluoroquinolone poisoning. If you are at this URL merely to find out about the FDA's recent black box warning re: Levaquin's link to ruptured tendons, you are in for peep into hell. Read the other thousands of postings on this site, and decide for yourself who bears the ring of truth.

I have felt poorly since October 2006. Sugar levels ranging from the 450-550 range. My G.P. who is a fantastic dr. put me on Januvia in January of 2007. Range of sugar levels did not change much Sent me for blood work found many abnormalities and in March 2007 I was diagnosed with a bone marrow plasma cell cancer call multiple myeloma (not a side effect of Januvia I'm sure). I am I'm the hospital now for a second time because of severe abdominal cramping. Looks like lower bowel problems. Have not been on Januvia for five days now. ***************My right shoulder feels better, I can raise my arm above my head, no night sweats, no bloody nose, my eczema is clearing up, no pain in joints or rest of my body (thought pain was associated with cancer which is considered inactive since April 2008, I have slept through the night, no pain meds for the last three days, no nightmares, no stomach pain, no coughing, chest not feeling congested, I can get out of bed w/out having to stand for a few minutes by the bed-side because of dizziness, not feeling like a truck ran over me in the middle of the night in the last three days, and most of all I have more energy. To many side effects !!! All of these side effects I thought were a possible result of my cancer although my oncologist did not think so and we still believed that there was some other underlying problem(s). THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM(S) IS JANUVIA !!! Thanks for reading. God Bless You All. Great Health to All.

I am currently taking levaquin for a sinus and double inner ear infection, i have also taken this antibiotic before,i am 35 years old. I think this drug works wonderfully and tell the doctor this drug works the best for me.i have noticed a harder time falling asleep if i take it too late in the evening and some mild stomach cramping if i do not eat at least 2 hours prior to taking it.i also take it with a full glass of water.some of the side affects listed in this blog that people are describing are normal if you read your insert that comes with the medication. And if you follow the directions and eat and drink with a full glass of water the side effects are not as severe.Unless you are allergic to the drug,i do not find it bothersome knowing i will not be taking it forever and it is just temporary that i will be having a hard time falling asleep.i do eventually fall asleep. My suggestion while taking this medication if you are in reasonably good health,is to read the directions about eating and drinking plenty of water and don't panic, that just makes things worse.

I am 49 years old and have been in great health until about 6 months ago due to some stressful situations with one of my nephews. My blood pressure was 140/80 at the highest. At this time...I began to have some mild heart palpitations and was put on Toprol XL (50 mg.) suddenly my palpitations became more intense and occurred more often. Then I began to have panic attacks and vision and memory problems. My doctor then prescribed Xanax .25mg. for the panic attacks. I weaned myself off of the 50 and began to take .25 mg. I really wanted off of it so I tried to cut that in half for several weeks. After about a month...I went off of the medicine for several days and began to have some strange symptoms. My arms were tingling and numb, I woke up sweating, my head felt strange...so I went back on the Toprol (25 mg.). I really would like to get off of all of this medicine. I have never been one to take anything and I am far worse than I ever was. I just wonder if doctors read this information and if the drug company takes note of any of this. I think this is a very strong drug that is over prescribed. I worry that I have damaged my heart with this drug. I am just not sure what to do. Please help...

I have been on Mircette for over a year and a half. I'm 54, in good health and work out. Never smoked but heart disease runs in my family. I've never had any problem with moods etc. My Dr. put me on the medication to regulate my periods, hot flashes and help me get through menopause. I like the fact my periods are lighter and predictable. Lately I've had pain in my legs, like maybe my deep veins and severe cramps in my thighs and feet. It was just at night now I'm having the pain during the day. I am so afraid of a stroke, heart attack, or blood clots. Does anybody know if this could be a blood clot? My Dr. says that I'm not going to have any problems because it is such a low dose. Any comments from anyone?

I started taking Advair 250/50 when I couldn't get any air in the upper part of my lungs. I was diagnosed with asthma as a child, but hadn't experienced it since I was 11. I am 21 now, and I have panic attacks, pain in legs (pain in my thighs, and it feels like a rubber band wrapped around my knees) and arms, splitting headaches, hyper-sensitivity, mood swings, back pain, heart racing for no reason(especially at night, it wakes me up), insomnia, pain in my chest (mostly on the left side near my arm pit that feels like muscle tightness), I sometimes get sharp pain in my chest if I take a deep breath, I've gained 40 lbs. in the past 8 months, and I am a nervous, emotional wreck. A year and a half ago, I was a completely different person. I've been to the doctor, and they can't find anything wrong with me. Although I am overweight now, my cholesterol and blood pressure are perfect, there is nothing wrong with my lungs (barring asthma). I am in great health, and yet I feel awful. All the time. I have no idea what to do, because my doctor's have told me that the only known side effects of Advair is potential damage to the teeth. I am outraged, but I am afraid to stop taking it because my lungs actually hurt when I don't. I'm also on an Intal Inhaler, but I haven't heard any side effects of this. Here's the kicker, the doctor that prescribed me the Advair wasn't even a respiratory specialist, and refused to reccomend me to one! I'm so glad I found this site because everything everyone has listed seems to be what has gone wrong for me since I started taking it. If anyone has any information on how they're doing now that they've stopped taking it, or the "withdrawal" effects of Advair, please post them. I'm hoping to wean myself off. Good luck to all of you, and thank you. Now I can stop being so worried that I have blod clots, lung cancer, or an aneurism. ;)

Thanks so much,
Jade

I was a healthy 59 year old woman until my doctor prescribed Levaquin for a minor eye pain. I was taking 500 mg. a day for 6 days and on the seventh day I broke out with thousands of hives all over my entire body.I also had severe chest pains and a terrible pain in my back and jaw. I thought I was having a heart attack. The doctor examined me and took an EKG. I had a normal EKG it was not a heart atatck. My physican precribed benadryl and sent me home. A few days later I started with a terrible burning in my esophagus and stomach , and the terrible hives continued. I went back to my doctor and he precribed Zyrtec. The Zyrtec helps the hives to "sleep". I find that 22hours into the 24 hour pill I start to see all of the hives popping out and itching. The doctor gave me a fat free .diet and sent me on my way. Two days later back to see my physican. I told him I was still in severe pain. My stomach and esophagus were on fire and that I was having terrible pain in my diaphram when bending over. I insisted that he refer me to a gastointerstional doctor as an emergency or I was going to the Emergency Room now. He sent me to a Gastro Doctor and upon examining me he said I had GERD. He also precribed a Fat Free Diet, and gave me a pill called Zegrid. This did not help at all. I than made an appointment for an Endoscopy. The findings are acute inflamation in the stomach and inflamation in the esophagus. I also have a hiatal hernia. The doctor told me to double up on the Zegrid.. The Biopsy will be back in two weeks. My pain continued so I called the gastro docor and he gave me Carafate. I continue to have the burning, the hives, pain in my diaphram and back, and now a feeling that I have something stuck in my throat. I never had any of these issues prior to taking Levaquin. I am going back to the doctor today as I have added naseua to the list of my complaints. I eat very lightly and drink very little as when I drink I sometimes get terrible pain in my diaphram. I have been to my primary physican 8 times, gastro 2 times, I have had about $500. in prescriptions, EKG's , Sonograms, Endoscopys, and Biopsys. I am starting to wonder if the medical profession set me up. Levaquin is poison to some people. Why did my doctor give me this medication for an eye ache.? It may be too late for me to debate the use of this medication that I took blindly, but maybe someone out there will read my story and think before they blindly take a medication that may change there life forever. Does any one out there have any of the same issues from Levaquin? Thanks for reading my story. Cheri

Took last of seven tabs(500mg) on Apr 23 2007, was fine until later that eve when pain around my heart and left arm started to flare up. Went to bed early thinking rest would help but pain was as bad the next morning. Called Physician who referred me to ER as I indicated I may have a reaction to Levaquin.( I am male, 39, in overall great health) All tests(EKG,CT,CBC) came back apparantly normal...but now 5 days later I still feel this shooting pain. ER Dr. prescribed Naprocin but what happens when that prescription ends.....Does anyone who has felt these side effects have an idea as to how long this may last. Logged info at fda.gov but cannot find remedy.

I am using daily low dose Lupron injections in preparation for an IVF surrogacy. This is my second try as the first embryo failed to thrive. The first cycle, the Lupron clouded my thinking and caused severe aches and pains. This time around, though, I am having more frightening symptoms of heart palipitations and chest pains that keep me from sleeping at night. It's hard to know when a doctor should be seen about these side effects or simply wait them out, as they seems to be common with this med. I am required to take this med, there is no other option, but I want to give a word of advice for those using Lupron for the treatment of ENDOMETRIOSIS- I HAD LESIONS CAUTERIZED WHEN I WAS 23 (6 YEARS AGO) AND I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD COME BACK INDEFINITELY. THE CONDITION IS CAUSED BY AN EXCESS OF ESTROGEN. THERE IS A SIMPLE,SIDE EFFECT FREE,AND CHEAP WAY TO REMEDY THIS CONDITION. YOU CAN GO TO A HEALTH FOOD STORE AND FOR $16-25 YOU CAN BUY A NATURAL, PLANT DERIVED PROGESTERONE CREAM THAT YOU SIMPLY RUB ON YOUR SKIN. IT WORKS! I PREVIOUSLY HAD 2 MISCARRIAGES BECAUSE I WAS LOW ON THIS IMPORTANT HORMONE. A MEDICAL DOCTOR WILL NOT RECOMMEND THIS TREATMENT BECAUSE THEY ARE TRAINED IN ARTIFICIAL MEDICATIONS, NOT NATURAL. GO TO A NATURAPATHIC DOCTOR IF YOU LIKE, OR SIMPLY DO THE RESEARCH YOURSELF, AS I DID. SYMPTOMS OF LOW PROGESTERONE ARE TROUBLE SLEEPING, WEIGHT GAIN, THROID PROBLEMS,LOW LIBIDO, UNABLE TO SUSTAIN PREGNANCY. When I am not preparing for an IVF cycle, I have been using it faithfully beginning the 12th-28th days of my cycle for 6 years. You would not believe all the health problems that hormone imbalance causes. I am now in great health(sans Lupron), ideal weight, have no problems with my thyroiditis (I have not needed meds), have no trouble sleeping(normally), and have not had a single fibromyalgia flare up since (again, before Lupron) and I was able to sustain a pregnancy to have a wonderful son. AGAIN, DO NOT EXPECT YOUR DOCTOR TO INDORSE THIS, MINE DID NOT AND I HAD 2 MISCARRIAGES BEFORE FINALLY TAKING MY HEALTH INTO MY OWN HANDS. GOD IS GOOD!

In response to guest #12706 - I too had a MRI for the same thing after taking Lupron. They didn't find anything and the symptoms went away after I went off of it. Although I'm not a doctor, my guess is that it's Lupron that's giving you the very common side effects you mentioned. The only thing I might bring up to your doctor is that you have more weakness/tingling on the right side. Although it's rare and I certainly don't want to cause you any additional stress, Lupron has been known to cause blood clots and on rare occasion mini-strokes. I wish you the best of luck and great health! Don't let your doctor off the hook - make sure he/she knows what you are going through.

I took my first dose of lisinopril 10mg on Friday morning. By 2:00 pm, the abdominal cramping was so bad, I ended up on the couch unable to move. Have been unable to eat anything, including cream of wheat, without feeling every part of my intestines cramping for the first hour or so after eating. The longer I go without eating or drinking, the more reduced the pain seems. But every time I stand up, I feel as though my contents of my abdomen are going to spill onto the floor. Riding in the car over bumpy roads is no picnic either. I didn't take my pill this morning hoping that this would all go away. It hasn't. I am due to see a nurse practitioner tomorrow am (after two calls to the office to complain about this). The saddest part of this is that at my physical last Thursday, my PCP declared me in great health...and just wanted to change my BP med from a beta-blocker to the lisonopril because I had complained of the former's sedative effects. I guess I should be careful about what I say when it comes to the meds.
