Just had to comment on these side effects I'm reading about Lipitor and other Statin drugs. I don't take anything and I never will after finding this site. Guess what, I have had high cholesterol since I was in my early 20's. When I say high... it ranged from 240 - 260...remember when 250 was OK? Well folks, it's 30 years later, my cholesterol is just about the same range, and Oh My GOD...I'm still here without any drugs.!!! They lowered the range so they could pass out the pills!!! Greed, greed, greed. Do you wonder why our Healthcare system is out of control? Well, when you keep feeding people medications that are presenting the side effects they do, making them sicker, they just keep testing and testing and testing for other things. Let's do blood work, MRI's, CAT Scans, Spect Scans, Pet Scans...Scan away...and guess what...all comes back OK...hmmmm why not look at the drugs you're prescribing. We need to see "all the side effects" listed. Not just some. They're misdiagnosing, Alzheimers, Fibromyalgia, MS, Lupus, Dementia, Arthritis, and on and on when it's been the drugs causing the diseases!
Ween off everything and anything you can...take your chances...when God wants you, he's going to come and get you no matter what you're doing...right or wrong!

Just started my six year old son on Zyrtec again. The dr. said he could take the adult pill now 10mg. The last few nights he has wakened with terrible nightmares/night terrors. And after reading these posts i remember taking him off for the winter (he was on the liquid 5mg) and i remember him always itching his arms and legs. i remember giving him oatmeal baths. Now i know it is from stopping the Zyrtec. I am calling the doc tomorrow about these nightmares. He was also on Singulair 4mg for 1 1/2 years then one year ago was upped to 5mg. Within one dose we noticed he was very depressed and cried easily. After a week called the doc about it, stopped it then had our son back in a few days. Will Never give Singulair again and now stopping Zyrtec. All these meds are so scary. A part of me feels these meds are created because it is a HUGE business. They have side effects then you have to take other meds for those side effects and it is a never ending circle i feel purposely created by pharmaceutical companys to make money. And we are all suffering because of their greed. Shame on them

I take the Lisonopril and HCTZ and within a few days, I started experiencing dizziness (bad case of Vertigo), fatigue. My doctor took me off. It has been a week now, and I am still suffering from the side effects. Crappy I tell ya! I won't take that stuff anymore. God will just have to take me, because I am done. A co-worker told me her doctor prescribed it, but her grandmother said take Ordorless Garlic tablets. That was a year ago. No more High BP. I am trying that. Won't hurt.

I am 34 years old. I am a pharmacy tech. I have asthma and allergies. I have taken singulair pretty much every day since it came out on the market. I've had asthma since i was about 10 years old. I took theophylline as a kid. Steriods on and off especially during times when my allergies are bad. I still use Advair during the fall and spring. Every drug has a side effect. However breathing is pretty good damn thing. Do I have days when I feel low? Yeah. Do I sometimes have nightmares? Yup. Are "natural" products the answer. Not always. The fish oil that some of the posters are touting can also cause GI problems. Some of the natural products contain herbs and other plant derivatives that can be harmful for a child that suffers from allergies. Not proactively treating asthma can be deadly. Some of the parents are suggesting steriods as the answer - those can cause weight gain, growth suppression and can lead to a worsening of asthma.

Singulair has never made me feel like I've wanted to kill myself. I was more depressed and angry as kid when my asthma did not allow me to partipate in normal childhood things. I was sad and hated life when I couldn't keep up with friends at recces because I was having trouble breathing. You have to outweigh the costs with the benefits. I am more irritable when I have asthma flareup then I am on a normal day. For me, I choose to breathe. And singulair has been helping me for almost a decade.

I'm not saying the medication isn't causing these symptoms but maybe there is an underlying cause to your child's depression.

Any drug has a side effect. But without medical research and the medications that come with them - people would still be dying of simple diseases and we wouldn't have vaccinations. As a society, as a whole, we are a culture that looks to someone else to fix things and then blames the people who try to fix it. We need to stop being the "hot McDonald's coffee'" society.

I am totally upset by reading the posts here. my son is just now 8 months old. he was put on singulair when he was just 6 months old. at first it seemed to be working...for maybe 2 weeks...then everything went crazy. he was started out on it when his pediatrician stated that he had asthma and apparently was on a very high dosage of it. they started him on 10 mg of the oral granules. before taking it he was a very happy baby, even with him being so young i never had any problems with him crying excessively or being massively irritated. since he started on the medication he has had massive irritability spells, constant fussing and crying and cant seem to fall asleep at night let alone stay asleep very long. i had taken him to the emergency room on christmas eve because a new problem showed up. he now was having a massive hard time breathing, he had a persistant cough, congestion in his chest and was almost always gasping for air. the staff at the hospital were in disbelief when they were informed that his pediatrician had put him on singulair at such a young age and at such a high dosage. i am now in the process of obtaining a lawyer and filing a lawsuit against the pediatrician for medical malpractice. this drug is very dangerous for anyone especially children. i would suggest anyone else having these problems with their child and this drug do the same. it can apparently cause long term lung damage, pulmonary disorders and even death. my son has been off of the medication since christmas eve and has already done a massive turn around. he sleeps well and through the night again, his breathing has improved and his cough is almost gone. they did say in the E.R that he has congestion in his chest due to the singulair but it should clear up over time with the help of zyrtec. please help make a stand and protect our children from the dangers our own pediatricians present to them.

No hearing loss in family history. Doctor put my father on 80 mg Lipitor, 1-1/2 years latter he started having trouble hearing. I was taking 40 mg Lipitor after 2 years my left ear went bad, 9 months latter my right ear went bad the same exact way. The ears went bad with a tinny sound to all when the hearing came back the 3 kHz area was very low. I have just put this together the recently. This is not a coincidence, I am sure Lipitor caused this. I also think this caused me to go through Hell from hard bump break outs on my body, had me spend thousands hunting for a parasite that was not there. It was not a rash, small bumps with a hard center.

53 year old female who has taken "F" for almost 2 years - the past two months was the generic version. Have noticed a gradual onset of joint pain and heart palpitations, but am not one to see a doc unless I feel like I'm dying... So I wrote it off to aging. (-:
A friend recently mentioned that she had heard that Fosamax causes bones to be brittle, which caused me to wake up, look around and see what people are saying and what new articles or research are out there. Yeah, sure - there are lawsuits. Not a surprise in our litigious society. More importantly, however, are the comments from real people. Thanks to you who've posted your experiences!
I stopped the drug several weeks ago and seem to have an increase in joint paint. But I'm not going back to Fosamax! Also interesting to me is that around the same time I stopped the drug, I experienced an uncharacteristic downward shift in my mood/mental state. Not sure if there's a correlation to the drug or not...
It is reassuring to see some comments from people who indicate they feel better after weeks/months of being Fosamax free. I am a "gym rat" and very fit/weight appropriate. Weight training and nutrition will be my treatment of choose for osteopenia for now. With time, I am confident that the symptoms I'm experiencing will subside. And any future ailments for which I am prescribed a drug will be very carefully researched by me beforehand.
Be careful out there and stay informed!

My 11 year old niece has developed (fibroid?) cysts in her breasts, and they say one is the size of a golf ball. She and her sister had said they really didn't think they had had any side effects from the Gardasil, and of course, the doctors say there is no connection. However, she has always been healthy, and these have only developed AFTER the administration of Gardasil.

How many must be harmed before the FDA stands up to the greed of Pharmaceutical companies and all of their human experiments?

We are looking for people who can participate in a documentary film to be shot in Los Angeles which focuses on the apparent adverse effects of Levaquin. Specifically, we are looking for people who have experienced cartilage damage or burst and ruptured tendons as a result of using Levaquin. It is especially useful if you have a doctor's opinion that the damage was caused by Levaquin. If you or someone you know would be interested in taking part in this film which will shoot in Los Angeles in mid-June 2008 please email us at ******

I am posting my response to it's own thread.

Concerned citizen who worked for Upjohn has intestinal disorders worrying about all of these poor children and "slowly" Merck admits that Singulair got out of control.

I honestly believe that Singulair was invented for a very specific reason related to the fact that most people who suffer from asthma have a very similar profile. I believe the Merck originally wanted to identify that profile and solve some bad problems. Then, somebody in the "greed department" ruined everything by trying to market Singulair for everything. I hope we don't see Singulair for ingrown toe nail.

I looked at the research from the 80's and 90's. I don't believe that Merck Canada had gone evil and "desired" to invent a way to kill people. It does look like there is a profile regarding asthma and it was really of benefit to find a way to stop the damage that is done by the extreme over-reactive airway.

The problem is some kind of corporate/marketing strategy that dictates that every product be sold to the ULTIMATE regardless in order to maximize PROFITS.

hi, i posted a couple of days ago as i was not sure what to do because my daughter was prescribed this horrible poison. i went to another dr yesterday and has now given her something else and was disgusted that my dr gave it to her for 2 reasons, firstly the side effects and also my daughter suffers seasonal winter asthma.

THE DR I WENT TO YESTERDAY RECEIVED AN UPDATE LETTER FROM MERCK JUST YESTERDAY.

it said that the investigation will probably end around sept. and YES so far they have found about 3 % of users will SUFFER from side effects. my doctor said it doesn't sound full proof but slowly its seem that they are admitting there is problems. please ask your own doctors if they have received this letter as i don't recall everything in it.

I am now 66 and was on Lipitor for about 10 years and was gradually getting worse, right to the point that my doctor gave me a Hand-I-Cap sticker for my car. I had hip and leg pain so severe I couldn’t function. Not once did my doctor mention Lipitor as a cause but he did have me go through a battery of tests including and MRA to examine circulation, low and behold he told me I had a blockage in my groin and that poor circulation was causing the pain. You guessed it, and arteriogram showed no blockage.

By chance I had watched a person who was only in his 40’s go from a robust person to finally having to use crutches just to get around. Then about a year later I saw him again and he was his old self again. I asked if he had surgery or what he did to recover so quickly and that is when I found out about all of the damage satin drugs can/will do.

I immediately took myself off of Lipitor and now 6 months later I can walk short distances without sever pain. Someday I hope the effect of satin drugs wears off but at my age I will never get back all of the things I missed because of drug companies greed.

Our son started taking Singulair three years ago at age 4. Last year he started having really bad headaches and stomach aches. After taking him to the doctor, we thought he was having migraines and was lactose intolerant. He's always been a kind, gentle, well mannered child until this school year. He's in the first grade and has been starting fights, saying mean things to his classmates and hitting other children for no reason. He also has terrible nightmares that are very gruesome for a 7 year old. I've been wondering how in the world his little mind could come up with some of the horrible stuff he tells me he dreams. It scares him enough for him to come into our room and sleep with us. I'm so angry that we were never told of the serious side effects this medicine can cause. We're taking our baby off of this medicine immediately. I agree, we should all file a class action lawsuit - and I have the disciplinary reports from my sons school to prove how his behavior has changed. We're praying for all the children and families that have been victims of the greed of the drug companies once again. This is a shame.

Finally, I found a blog that I can relate to. I've tried all types of alternative treatments and nothing seemed to work. Finally after much dismay, I decided to take Lisinopril and HCTZ to control my BP. In May of this year the doctor went up on my meds from 10.2 to 30mg of Lisinopril. I've had struggles with depression and ED. I also have itches and had an allergic reaction with my throat almost closing and later vomited. I've had enough of this trickery by the pharmaceutical industry. I strongly recommend a book by Gwen Olsen called Confessions Of An RX Drug Pusher. That book has changed my perception completely on the drug industry.

LEVAQUIN is a FLURO quinelone. The fluoride replaces the iron in metalloproteases in your tendons. Remodelling to stress thus fails to occur. It is a molecule shapped like a horseshoe. The base is the formula for an INHIBITORY neurotransmmitter: GABA. It also causes cardiac hyperpolarization. If these dangers are not carefully examined before taking the drug, you are playing Russian Roulette.

But don't just be hysterical. Read. America can't survive as a nation of hedge fund BSers with no grasp of science or math. Doctors are drowning in HMO paperwork and 5 mins. per patient. They can't be thorough and don't have time to read other than the BS of drug salesmen. So don't go by the stupid TV ads. READ-->LEARN-->READ--> and contact the FDA and drug company to get their info on your side effects. If they lie, you have a case. Fight for yourselves instead of just panicking over symptoms. That could kill you whether you stop or not the drugs.
