I have been on Warfarin for three months for a DVT in my femoral vein. I get some headaches, fatigue, feel cold, tired and have gained weight. I am a fit middle aged male, back at the gym now and cycling. I eat a balanced low fat high fiber diet, but still cannot shift the weight. I have been a depressive for most of my life and although manage without drugs have resorted to Valium to help me sleep, as insomnia has also been a significant side effect. I do not sit around, drink excessively or eat like a pig, so where is the weight coming from? My GP's seems ambivalent and it took five weeks to diagnose my DVT after my complaining about Phlebitis and pains in my groin. Not a happy bunny.

Where do i start? I've been on coumadin for 13 months for a huge clot in my left leg which leads up into my groin. I have experienced dizziness, lightheadedness, unable to concentrate, diarrhea, headaches, stomach pain ( when i was taking it at night before bed), hair loss was a biggy at first. I lost a lot of my hair! joint pain. These of course are all at times. Didn't always feel crappy, but a lot of the time. Especially when they changed my doses or I changed the times of the day I would take them. Any doctor or pharmacist I've asked about these side effects say they don't exist! ya right! ask someone who actually takes the stuff! Hope this blog helps someone else.

I was prescribed Sulfamethoxazole on Mon. evening for a kidney infection. After taking it for 4 days, I developed a bad pain on the left side of my neck. Later on that day had a bad muscle cramp right below the inside of my groin. About 15 min. later had another one on the back side of my left thigh. Had me crying and couldn't straighten my leg. Figure it is the medication and stopped taking it. The next day, today, my leg muscles are sore and I feel like crap.I also developed a headache on the 3rd day.

I was put on Yasmin in 2006 due to irregular periods. I thought during the time I was on it I felt fine, I thought. I am the type of person who doesn't like going to the doctor bc all they want is my money. At first everything was fine. Then one day I started getting really hot and was so weak I could barely hold my head up. My vision was blacked out but I could still hear everything. I figured I was just dehydrated so I drank a few glasses of water and everything returned to normal within 15 minutes. I went on with life as normal and just swept the episode under the rug. The same thing happened a few more times in the near future but I didn't have loss of vision again. Still went on with life. I used to be a server, therefore I was on my feet all the time and I was a workaholic. I started getting severe cramps on my lower left calf but again ignored the symptom bc I just thought it was a bad muscle cramp from always being my feet. Then one day at work a girl ran into me just right and knocked my hip out of place. I walked around like that for about 5 days or so but I was taking TONS of Ibuprofen to ease the severe pain which helped me forget the leg cramps.. Eventually I went to the chiropractor to get an adjustment and everything was great again. No pain. As the next month passes the cramp in my leg started gradually moving up the back of my calf, around to just above my knee and then up to my groin. Again I just ignored this mystery "cramp." I ignored it until September 19th when I was working and my episodes stared again while I was working. I started feeling weak again and just really dehydrated. I went to get a drink and passed out in the kitchen during lunch rush. I got some water and then went back to work. I made one last round at my tables and then collapsed in the back bc I had one of the worst pains in my groin I had ever experienced. This time I couldn't ignore it and had my bf take me to an immediate care hospital. The doctor took my blood and ran tests and everything came back normal. Then they asked if I could give a urine sample and I did. They said it would take about 45 minutes for the results to come back. So I took a walk outside and felt like I was waddling. My left leg started getting really tight and swollen. I walked back in and went to the bathroom again. My left leg was purple!!!! I told the dr about it and she looked at my leg for a second, and ordered me to lay down and not move an inch and walked out the door. She immediately ordered a CT scan. We got the results back and we discovered I have blood clots from my ankle up to the top of my knee. That's the only part of my leg that was scanned. I was transferred to intensive care and was there for 4 days. I was immediately taken off Yasmin and put on extremely high doses of coumadin and other blood thinners to absorb the clots back into my bloodstream. Other CT scans were performed and the clots actually go from ankle up to my lower abdomen. After I was released from the hospital, I was on bed rest for 3 months. Bc I cannot be on my feet I had to quit my job. Keep in mind I was only 19 years old, now only 22. I now have to be on coumadin for the rest of my life, I have to get my blood levels tested monthly, and I also had to have a filter put in my inferior vena cava (the main vessel in your body that goes to your heart.) To prevent clots from moving to my heart, lungs, and or brain. Since then I have to have a job that I Cannot sit down for too long but can't have a job that I am on my feet either, pretty limited, huh? And of course I must have insurance to pay for the nonstop medical bills. I have been pretty depressed about the whole thing so make sure if you take Yasmin you get off immediately!!! Now instead of birth control pills I have a 10 year IUD. Now after reading some of the other posts I am wondering if my depression, anxiety, anger and mood swings have something to do with the IUD....

I have been on Warfarin since October 20th of 07 after being bedridden for 3 weeks in excruciating pain in my hip/butt which kept me from moving & i'd drag my left side of body from my waist down, into our bathroom in excruciating pain unable to turn to flush a toilet or stand for more then a minute. I begged my primary doctor to "give me an mri as my back was in so much pain with the hip/butt". I had been getting epidurals for what doctor assumed was a herniated disk.i was in a wheelchair now & my husband took me several times to E.R. AND THEY SAID "WHY ARE YOU CRYING IT'S ONLY BACK PAIN." I labored more & more just to breath. I couldn't get my breaths. "Frightening" finally Then, I walked myself into the local E.R. and told them "I think I have a clot in my lung because I don't have a cold or a bronchitis & I've been in bed so much I believe it is a clot." It was two clots in my right lung. My lung hurt a little more each day I recall I went about two weeks gradually having more & more difficulty getting my breaths. I was hospitalized and then my primary wanted NOTHING to do with my care when E.R. doctors called him.local hospt. took care of me & the clots resolved. I am still on warfarin for coumadin. I really do have a memory problem I fear now, "short term", especially now after 2 yrs on this med. Also, Last time I went in the sun I was so wiped out exhausted like it beat me up. I am afraid to go back to the beach. I get headachs also and one time when my INR. went up over 3, my ankles got these little red spots and also on my chins of both legs like blood specks showing thru the surface.Still there but not as evident. My avg. INR is 2.4 I feel most comfortable at.I try to maintain. Back in 1998, I got two clots in my left leg after a botched knee surgery to repair a torn cartledge and awoke with an in place fractured knee cap.. two weeks later horrible pain in my left leg revealed two clots one at ankle to groin in my vein=d.v.t. and the other at the side of my knee in artery to groin when the tornaquat was.

I later woke up on my couch with a large digital cable bill. My name is A. B. and suffer from alcohol and live near the woods. I would not suggest taking ultracet after spider bites. These library computers are awesome.

Less than 2 months after taking Lipitor I have been experiencing intense weakness of the legs, especially the hip area. A normally avid walker, last week really woke me up when I was unable to walk over 40 feet without having to stop from sheer leg exhaustion. I'd have to actually lean on my partner until I could manage to shuffle again- a shuffling gait is what I had to resort to just to make it back to the car.
This is bullshit because even though I've had some angina symptoms, right up until I went to the hospital I was able to hike; was still relatively strong.
So today I have spent hours researching side effects and have seen on this site alone many mentions of intense leg weakness and pain with Lipitor.
This, along with simultaneously educating myself on the truth about high cholesterol has convinced me to gradually cease taking this medication.
Instead I will replace with sufficient quantities of VitC, buckwheat combined with gingko, and of course I can never stop with the garlic because it is delicious.

I am a 57 year old male, who is in very good shape and active playing sports. I had a bad cold and had just finished a 3 day "burst" of prednisone per my asthma specialist. I am supposed to keep it on hand and take it if my usual meds and "rescue" inhaler are not working, and I feel that I am going into an infection (asthmatic bronchitis). The steroid treatment did not work, so I saw a doctor who prescribed Levaquin (with a coupon for $15 off) - for 10 days. The pharmacist remarked that they had seen a LOT of these coupons and that the drug reps must be doing their jobs. I read the warnings which noted that "in rare instances, ...". after I got home. Since I was leaving town immediately and did not have time to change meds, I took the Levaquin. I have suffered leg cramps for over three weeks now and don't know when or if they will disappear. The cramps appear in my hamstrings, groin, thighs, and calf muscles. They are debilitating. Sometimes I can barely walk. I am no longer able to play racquetball. I try to stretch out and warm up thoroughly before physical activity, but the cramps still appear in one muscle group or more - then I stop immediately.

I have had Mirena for 4 years and have gained 20kg. My binge eating is now out of control and I feel this is because of a state of depression. I get terrible sharp pains in my ovaries and have experienced lower back pain since getting the mirena. I also have puss filled boil like sores on my groin that are very painful. I wouldn't care if I never had sex again and my energy level is zero. I have one day that I have heaps of energy and then stuffed for the next 7. I now suffer with visual migraines and get dizzy a lot. My blood pressure is high and feel as though I have a lump in my throat. I am getting my Mirena out ASAP. I can't believe how much the doctors love this product and claim that it is perfectly safe. They said that about the morning sickness pills that caused babies to be born without limbs. Wake up Medical. Stop your ignorance and do your research.

I share the scare - I developed a bacterial infection after surgery and had an allergic reaction to first two antibiotics so was given Avelox. About an hour after the 1st dose my eyes became bloodshot, my joints ached like I had the flu or severe arthritis and I started having jolts of pain in different places, legs, groin, neck. I became disoriented and developed tiny blisters on bottom of feet, behind knees, on neck they faded, and at base of my fingers. The second dose caused severe joint and neck pain, disoriented feeling and again blisters. My doctor had me break the pills in half to take twice a day with benadryl. I also took large dose of Ibuprofen an hour after taking Avelox. That helped lessen severity of side effects. Final straw was the fifth dose - took before sleeping, woke at 4am and could not move from neck pain. My husband pulled me up so I could use the bathroom with me crying from pain. Sitting on the commode, I threw up and started to pass out. I managed to get downstairs and take an 800 mg. Ibuprofen and passed out for about 30 seconds. We went to ER. The attending physician decided I was having a muscle spasm and dismissed my fear it was the drug. They gave me a muscle relaxer and sent me home. I slept like the dead. My doctor called me that afternoon and told me to stop the Avelox immediately. You can imagine after missing 5 weeks of work for surgery, then having to miss three days last week and who knows this week how bummed I am. I am 46, have a wonderful family (a husband and 4 kids), a job I love, and life is good. I hope my body can recover soon as I am not used to inactivity. I cannot seem to function normally anymore.

I just noticed a banner going across the bottom of the TV screen about a former co-host from a well known late night talk show. It said he was hospitalized for pneumonia and other difficulties. It went on to mention shoulder and groin tendon problems. I wonder what antibiotic he was given.

Further update. I went to get my mirena taken out but the doctor couldn't find the threads, she fished about for a bit while I laid in agony, still couldn't find them. I was then given a scan and they couldn't see it on the scan so I was sent up for an x-ray. Thankfully it showed up on the xray, it has got lodged somewhere in my pelvis/groin. Been sent away to wait for the gyny to call me to get me in for surgery, she isn't there until Monday so I have to somehow get through the weekend, they didn't even give me any pain killers. Please let me know if you know of anyone who has experienced this. I do think I've just been unlucky with the whole mirena experience, sadly its not over yet though!

I had my mirena taken out today. I had it placed in Oct or Nov 2007, and I have been soooo tired every single day since then, and it's just gotten increasingly worse. I've tried antidepressants, I had my tonsils and adenoids out to help with breathing and obstructive sleep apnea, I've started vitamins, changed my diet, picked up a bike.... NOTHING will shake this fatigue.
I did some research on it and found hundreds of women posting online about the ill effects of mirena - including depression, weight gain, FATIGUE, back pain, headaches, symptoms similar to a thyroid problem... some things I didn't think could be the Mirena, but lo and behold, here's an army of women in the same boat as me.
I had to argue with my doc to get it taken out (I read that a lot of women had to do this), stating I felt better on the pill when my body could bleed properly and my hormone levels were a bit different. He maintained that the fatigue had nothing to do with the mirena and the pill just had more hormones, but I said, hey, what I do know is that sometimes, some things just don't work for some people, even if it doesn't follow logic. He pleaded with me to give me a second antidepressant, and I said, hey, I won't fight with you, but let's try it my way first. I promised to go back in a month, and, if the fatigue has not subsided, I will submit my body to thyroid tests and more antidepressants. You've got it, doc.
Well, it's hard to tell so far if things have changed, since it's only been out for hours. One thing I noted was that my body did feel different - almost immediately younger, like my joints hurt less and whatnot. I'm a little tired now, but not as bad as I normally am. I also was not on my sleeping schedule today (went to bed two hours late and had split sleep).
Haven't had bad effects as a result of getting it taken out - I cramped a little this morning, but it was NOTHING compared to what I felt when I cramped on Mirena. Also, my cramps were in a little more normal area - more center. With Mirena, I cramped on my lower right abdomen, from hip to groin, every couple of weeks.

Within two weeks of beginning to use the Nuvaring, I developed a blood clot in my leg. It was misdiagnosed and because of that, it grew all the way up my leg to my groin. I was a week in the hospital and have to take blood thinners for six months. My leg will never be the same.

I HAVE BEEN ON WARFARIN FOR 6 WEEKS SINCE A BROKEN FOOT GAVE ME A BLOOD CLOT FROM MY ANKLE TO MY GROIN. I'M ONLY 34 AND I HAVE NO ENERGY, I'M LOSING MORE HAIR EVERY TIME I BRUSH IT, AND I CAN'T CONCENTRATE. I'M SUPPOSED TO TAKE IT AL LEAST 6 MONTHS AND THEN HAVE ANOTHER ULTRASOUND TO SEE IF THE BLOOD CLOT IS GONE. THE DOCTORS SAID THIS COULD BE LIFELONG. I'M ON 5MG RIGHT NOW. IT SUCKS.

i had the most painful and frightening episode last night. thank god for the internet....the zocor stops today....after only a week or so of low dose....severe leg ,inner thigh muscle cramps and then last night...i must speak frankly,at the end of normal sexual relations, my climax spasm transitioned into a groin and lower stomach cramp that made me roll off the bed in pain and confusion, never have i felt such horrible mind numbing pain....took about ten minutes for spasm to release, still awful sore this morning....it's oatmeal and more swimming for me...just the memory of the pain and helplessness in the midst of it make me nauseous.

I was put on Levoquin after 4 days of Bronchitis. My body was not responding to the antibiotic so they added Prednisone. I continued on both medications IV for 8 days. After the second day, I developed a severe pain in my groin. I mentioned it to the NP treating me and she said, "we will worry about that once we get the Bronchitis under control". The pain continued as the medication continued. After the Bronchitis was resolved, the pain in my groin was terrible. My doctor sent me for CT scans and and MRI. The next thing I knew I was in the Orthopedic Surgeon's Office talking to him about a total hip replacement. He said the test showed very mild degeneration and he was not sure a total hip replacement for me was the answer. I opted not to have the hip replacement. Diagnostic Testing continued. Finally, my doctor told me that the combination of Levoquin and Prednisone caused a tendon rupture in my groin. He said it would heal but would take a long time. It is now 8 months since I took those medications and my hip is more painful now than ever. I am on pain medication and it does not help. I see my doctor today and we will discuss other options to relieve this awful pain. I walk with a cane and I feel like I will never walk normally again. It has totally disrupted the activities of my life. My doctor tells me to stay off my feet as much as possible to rest the tendon, this is impossible as I am a registered nurse and I am on my feet constantly. This has destroyed my life!

Wow! The day before yesterday, a friend of a friend reported that she had her IUD taken out. It was Mirena. I have had mine in since last December and it never occurred to me that this could be the problem. In June, I started having symptoms that were like UTIs but I've never had one. I had to pee all the time and when I did, it burned. I felt nauseous but then, before going to the dr. the symptoms would pass. Finally, after a month, I decided to stop ignoring it. In the meantime, I started having all these lower gut/uterine achy feelings that moved toward my groin and pelvic bone/thigh area. I've never had anything like it. Sometimes, it was hard to walk. I went to my gyn. and she said she saw nothing and I had a sonogram and they saw nothing and said my Mirena looked great. In the meantime, I have been more and more tired, drinking three or more cups of coffee a day to stay awake. I have a 1 year old and I feel so tired I sometimes feel frustrated with her. I also have had rage during my PMS which I've never had before in my life. I used to get a little weepy-sometimes. Now, I find that I'm so irritable about the slightest thing. Until this friend of a friend mentioned her trouble (which was similar to mine) I never even thought of the Mirena. My GP told me that it was a pulled muscle (even though I had no recollection of pulling anything). I can't wait to get this thing out! Oh, also, someone mentioned vaginal dryness--YES! I've never had a problem with this before but it has been getting harder and harder to ignore during intimacy. I was never, ever told about any such side effects! I am having the Mirena taken out on Thursday--I can't wait.

I went to the doctor Wednesday for a swollen foot which was diagnosed as gout. The doctor gave me a shot of prednisone mixed with something else (?). Within two hours my groin, hip, thigh, and stomach was in pain. It is now Saturday and I can barely walk I am in so much pain. Has anyone else has this problem after only one injection?
