I sort of have a love/hate relationship w. this pill. I was on this pill after I had my 1st child. For those 18 mo. I felt great. I suffer from alopecia (female pattern hair loss) and this pill made my hair thicker and reduced the loss completely. I went off of it 3-4 mo. before easily conceiving my 2nd son. However, a month after I got off, I started to loose more hair than ever AND break out ridiculously for the first time ever in my life! The only reason I believe that everything turned around is because I got pg and we all know the good hair and skin that does for you. I am now done having kids and back on Yasmin because I was disparate to regrow my hair (which it helped again). It has been about 6 mo. and am starting to lose my hair again and have symptoms comparable to an ulcer. I'm just not sure anymore, but what i am sure of is doctors have no clue.

My daughter had the Gardasil shots last year. The school nurse talked to these young girls and told them all the dangers of cancer. It is a scare tactic. Doctors tell you to get the shots as well...makes their offices LOTS of money...the insurance companies presently pay for the shots, and the are very expensive. My daughter passed out w/ the first shot. Never has passed out before. (Do not allow your daughter to drive herself to get this shot...for the adult women..have someone drive you if you choose to have this vaccination, although I would strongly recommend NOT.) My daughter, since she was vaccinated with Gardasil, has had multiple ear infections, warts, strep multiple times, flu-like symptoms multiple times...pretty much the immune system took a nose dive. She never missed school before...was exempt from school exams many times because she was never sick. However, after Gardasil, she has missed many days due to all the sicknesses she has experienced. It has been approx. a year and she hasn't been as sick lately. I am hoping the immune system will get back to what it was before the shots but I strongly recommend NOT getting this vaccination. If my daughter gets worse, I am tempted to contact a lawyer. We might should get a count on the women that have been negatively affected by this and go to D.C. This vaccine should have been researched more. Our daughters should NOT be guinea pigs!!

I was prescribed Avelox day before yesterday for an upper respiratory infection and took it for two days before calling and asking to be switched. I experienced severe sharp pains in my hips, lower and middle back, and a few in various places in my legs. My eyes can't tolerate light and I am experiencing right arm numbness, weakness, and disorientation with movement. I'm sure this drug works just fine for some but my pharmacist says some people are just not good candidates for it. Shouldn't there be some sort of process for finding out who those people are instead of treating us all like guinea pigs? I feel like we operate within a medical system that decides to shoot first and ask questions later.

I had a little case of pneumonia and the doctor prescribed avelox to me. since the first day i took it i experienced numbness in my legs and i was feeling very weak, i thought those symptoms were from pneumonia so i continued to take avelox. after taking avelox for 6 days i saw my doctor and i told him about everything i was feeling, numbness in my legs and arms, tingling in my whole body(even my lips), and i felt very weak. my doctor gave me some tests and everything seemed to be fine. but i kept feeling really bad, i started to get chest pain. i went to the ER and they ran some tests, they told me i was fine. they told me to go to a neurologist. later that day i read on the back of the prescription and i saw that everything i was feeling i saw as side effects on the prescription. By the time i saw that i have already taken all of the medication. now i'm waiting to see when the side effects will go away. i wonder why any of the doctors i went to didn't know these were side effects from the medication, i will never take this medication again.

Hi, I googled Yasmin as, like GM/Gabrielle, I have problems with hyperpigmentation on my upper lip and my chin (making me look like I have the beginnings of a beard and a mustache, highly attractive!!) I took Yasmin for about a year from 2002-3. I have surfed the net before at various points curious about Yasmin, but decided that I was just unlucky in taking Yasmin and it was one of those things. Having read all the posts here I am disgusted that this drug is available at all. Yes, we are all guinea pigs and yes, the doctors who prescribe this medication and others like it have no idea of the long term effects or maybe they are not really that bothered? How the hell are they made available anyway? Pharmaceutical companies literally get away with murder, to say nothing of their moral responsibility with regard to vivisection. As soon as I started to notice the pigmentation and connected it with the Yasmin I saw my doctor who immediately took me off it,warning me that it shouldn't get any worse but it may not go away. It does get worse if exposed to any sun, so I use a strong sublock and skin lightening cream all year round which thus far has only lightened the skin slightly (I live in the UK). I'm getting married this year and it will be a shame to feel self conscious about my skin, but having read these posts I feel so lucky to only have this to "worry" about - this is minor in comparison to life threatening blood clots. My grandmother died from thrombosis - maybe my vanity on this occasion has saved my life.

I am bipolar and have ADHD, i started with wellbutrin, then zoloft, and then divalproex sodium. I am now on celexa and clonazepam. The very first day I took celexa I felt wonderful, and now the good feeling wears off in the afternoon, so my doctor upped my dosage 10mg. Some of the symptoms I have read here sound like type 2 diabetes to me, I was just diagnosed with that. Best thing is to no stay on a med that does not make you feel good, by all means go back to your doctor or change doctors, you see doctors are not pharmacists, and we are the guinea pigs until they get it right. Best of wishes to all of you, and take care.

I had Mirena put in 6 weeks after having my son in July 08. I loved it at first, didn't care for the non stop bleeding but at the moment I was happy just knowing I couldn't get pregnant. Probably 2 months ago I've been extremely depressed to the point where I just start crying and tell my husband that I wish I was dead. I have no patience with my son and my husband ends up doing most of the care taking with him. He says he feels like he doesn't know me anymore. I've been having extreme violent thoughts also. I've always been a bit of a moody person but always happy but now I don't want to talk to anyone or be around people. Just the last couple of days I've been having pains in my uterus that felt like I had something bulging in my fallopian tubes and i've felt bloated for a few months now. Actually after I had my son my stomach was smaller than it is now, I look 5 months pregnant. I just feel like crap. My husband and I had sex the other night and I had the worst cramps that I was about to have him bring me to the ER just to have Mirena removed immediately. I took a vikadin that I had and luckily got some sleep now today I still feel a slight dull pain in there. This was a HUGE mistake and an expensive one too. I'm getting mine taken out. I like how we are all just damn Guinea Pigs to these jackasses!!!!!!

I had my Mirena taken out yesterday after only 2 months of using it and a couple of hours after having it removed, all those nasty pregnancy symptoms I had are gone !!!! I'm soooo happy. Doctor told me that this is the first time she heard of a patient who is so sensitive to the amount of hormones released. I think she's lying. I'm not surprised if we are guinea pigs by the drug company to test it's side effects. Paying guinea pigs mind you.

My husband was prescribed 40mg of this drug 2 years back, for his high cholesterol reading. He is an ex-services and has always been extremely fit, he was tired for almost a year, then he began having headaches to the point he had a brain scan, because he thought he had a tumor. He also has had knee and neck joint problems and now the joints of his fingers are giving him pain He now wakes up each morning feels really ill and feels as though hes being strangled, the sensation lasts sometime for hours and he has to lie down. His doctor said it was blood pressure but he keeps a monitor and his pressure has been normal. His doctor said he should continue to take it, but when you read all the symptoms that people are getting while taking this drug it makes you realize they are all just guinea pigs for a large scale trial of the drug

After only ONE tablet my husband took for his bronchitis he got SO dizzy, disoriented, nauseated, he threw up several times, couldn't walk or talk- this is freaking poison, that's right! Looks like somebody is using people as guinea pigs for their experiments. Does anyone know how to file a lawsuit against the stupid doctor, who prescribed Levaquin to my husband & what proof do we need?

My daughter is seven years old. She was diagnosed with asthma when she was around two years old and, for years, suffered with the night cough associated with childhood asthma.
When Singulair came along, my initial reaction was that of joy. My husband and I could not believe that we no longer heard coughing throughout the night. However, while on this drug, we also noticed that she underwent a change. Sometimes, she seemed terribly sad and withdrawn. Other times, she became angry and even aggressive. We rarely saw her smile. It also seemed like she was in some sort of fog much of the time. About a week ago, I found her on the floor of our office. She had just gotten out of the shower, and I was getting her pajamas for her. The towel was not around her and she was shaking violently and crying. She explained that she had the chills, but it was clear that she didn't even comprehend that her towel was not around her. We all know our kids, and, I'm telling you that this scene was frightening. This was not at all my daughter.
In addition to the mental/emotional changes, she also had physical symptoms including sudden and frequent headaches, fatique, stomach pain, and bed wetting. A day after her "breakdown" in our home office, my husband called me from work and told me that he had just been reading MSNBC and that there was an article about the negative side effects of Singulair. When he listed things that matched what our daughter had been going through since on this drug, it was both comforting and horrifying. I am relieved to know that there is nothing wrong with my daughter psychologically, but I am furious that she and so many others have been treated like guinea pigs. We took out daughter off Singulair the very same night that my husband came across the article on Singulair, and she hasn't had any of the mental or physical symptoms that she had been experiencing...the change was that drastic. Currently, we are only using her inhaler and Benadryl at night. She has a doctor's appointment next month, and I will tell the doctor about our experience.
I have my little girl back, but I can't help but wonder how many families are going through this and do not have a clue that Singulair could be the problem. Other than reporting this to our pediatrician, is their another agency I should contact?

Here is some perspective for you all. I take Singulair and do well on it and in ACTUAL studies it has one of the safest safety records. Understand that post marketing reporting does not mean there is a correlation between the event and the product. Throughout the life of a drug the companies must disclose any report of side effects reported to them REGARDLESS of causality. A popular antihistamine that is OVER THE COUNTER also has suicidal thinking/behavior listed in its post marketing section. However, just because patients who had reported having these thoughts while taking the product doesn't mean it was a result of the product! Maybe they had a depressive personality and were also on multiple other medicines to treat that. You must look at the "Adverse Reactions, Warnings and Precautions" sections of package inserts to see the side effects that were actually seen in studies. You can die from ulcers derived from over use of aspirin or ibuprofen. Decongestants can throw off your blood pressure and these events are documented in actual studies! Listen to your bodies when taking any med. If you feel differently report it to your doctor.
These are all drugs people, there are potential side effects. There are also side effects to those "natural" over the counter remedies that are not nearly as regulated by the FDA or studies by the drug companies.
To anyone out there who has experienced side effects to singulair timed to when you started it, talk to your doctor, stop taking it and see if it goes away. Same advice for any product prescription or over the counter medicine. Side effects can be a combination of many factors (what other meds are you taking?) But understand for many people this product is the safest and most effective treatment for them. The FDA and Merck are reviewing all information to see if there is any correlation to the reporting. But singulair been around for about 10 years and prescibed to billions of people and is known to be one of the safer medicines out there overall.
In between the legitimate posts on this site I get the sense there is a lot of ambulance chasing going on. People looking to cash in on this big drug companies. We want drugs, we want them cheap and with no side effects which is not a reality. Keep stepping up the regulation and make the companies hire more lawers to protect themselves and jump through even more hoops and see what happens to the price and access to new meds. Even better, see how regulation has impacted the development of new medicines around the world (here's a tip, it will dramatically decrease). Drug companies certainly aren't perfect but which industry is?
Please, when taking any medicine over the counter, prescription or herbal supplement listen to your bodies to see if the potential benefits of the product outway the risks or side effects. Report any changes to your doctor.

Okay, I am not on the NuvaRing, but I came across this site doing research because my sister was on it and had some side effects, and was thinking about going back on it to see if it was just her. After reading all of your replays to this type of BC, I am going to sum it up, HORMONES, you are outright playing with your hormones. Of course Dr.'s say it is a lower dose than the pill, which to them in a petri dish or chemical layout initially may be, but your inserting something into your system to absorb a chemical to change and alter your hormones that is left in place, aka: different mix of hormones and the bad thing is everyone's system is different on absorption - especially from a lab rat/mouse :) or person to person. What is one thing all women have in common and we all will complain about - our periods :) our cycle, and if you don't have one and are one of the unfortunate and not able to bear children I'm sorry for you :(, but you still have hormones and we all know we have "PMS" or some factor of it, and certain things bring more of it about - as well as those that are going through menopause or pre-menopause - it all deals with hormones....so basically when you mess with hormones; as you all can read here and other places on the web, they play a big deal in our day to day lives, our systems, and our overall chemical makeups - basically don't play with mother nature - just stick to either condoms or if your single go with the abstinence and then go and look for Pure Romance (I sell it :) or Slumber Party products...they're safer :) and cheaper :) and they don't talk back :) LOL..had to throw that in there...I am no doctor, but the more I read here look at all your "common symptoms" that should be a clue to everyone using this that it is NOT a safe product and we need to quit being GUINEA PIGS, geez, this one goes inside you and is a slow release but if your stressed or depressed it's going to effect the absorption rate...I could keep going...but I'll stop because I hope you get the picture..... Well everyone take care and watch your diets, stay away from synthetic hormones and vitamins, eat well because it plays a huge roll in all you do!! :)...ldfangman

My goodness!!
After reading many of the posts here, it seems to me that doctors are using our children as guinea pigs for Singulair trials!
This is just disgusting that this medicine has not been pulled from the shelves and subjected to severe scrutiny by the FDA.
Does ANYONE know of a person who has benefited from this drug without suffering from adverse effects?

most of you are a hypercondriac and don't even know it, did it ever occur to any of you that you may have other problems? or was that too hard to face the truth about yourselves? if Neurontin was all that bad, don't you think that, that would have all been out? I posted a note about all my aches and pains on the 16 of this month and have since done a bit more research and I found several sites that have posts from people on their experience with certain drugs and Lipitor seems to be the one main drug that every one complains about. Granted, there may be a few that have no ill side effects from Lipitor, but you have to remember - - - we are not all alike. But to have so many people complain about the same drug with about the same side effects has got to tell you some thing . There must be a way to make these doctors and the pharmaceutical companies realize that the BENEFITS DO NOT OUT WAY THE SIDE EFFECTS ! And that a LONG TERM study MUST be done on any drug for human consumption !!!! And not to use us as their guinea pigs.

I started taking Toprol XL on Wednesday 11-14. I had been admitted to the cardiac unit after having to be given 2 nitro pills and also a nitro patch to get my chest pain to go away and my blood pressure to come down.
That evening my cardiologist put me on 50mg of Toporol XL. I have had a headache pretty much since that night, that just won't go away. I had an anxiety attack last night that left he crying for no reason pretty much all night long, I have not slept well since the night they put me on it, I have been sick at my stomach since that night, I have been dizzy and not feeling like myself since that night, and I also continue to have a feeling of something being wrong, even though all the bllod work and the stress test came back good.
They told me that my problem was stress related and for the next 2 weeks am to try and remain stress free. But everytime I take the medicine I continue to feel worse with these same symptoms.

you need to let HEALTHCARE CANADA know about these side affects ( or the health care monitoring body of your country)
they log these side affects to see if its bad or whatever.
i'm a 22 year old female. SINGULAIR has cleared up my allergies better than anything else that i have tried.
HOWEVER, now i am extremely paraniod, can;t sleep, and i feel like i am high on drugs or something, in that i do not feel like myself (i feel smaller than i am and sometimes i feel like i am floating instead of walking). i see shadows in my periferal vision.
one positive side affect, is that i have now a razor sharp memory, lol in school and work i can remember minute details of things that i read once!!!! (don't know if that's worth the other side affects though!)
:(
thank you merck frost for making us your guinea pigs :(

Finally, I found a blog that I can relate to. I've tried all types of alternative treatments and nothing seemed to work. Finally after much dismay, I decided to take Lisinopril and HCTZ to control my BP. In May of this year the doctor went up on my meds from 10.2 to 30mg of Lisinopril. I've had struggles with depression and ED. I also have itches and had an allergic reaction with my throat almost closing and later vomited. I've had enough of this trickery by the pharmaceutical industry. I strongly recommend a book by Gwen Olsen called Confessions Of An RX Drug Pusher. That book has changed my perception completely on the drug industry.

A Nuvaring proponent and user for 4 years (I started when it was first available on the US market) I decided to stop using it 2 weeks ago after reading some horrifying posts regarding the exponential increase in risk of stroke and pulmonary embolism in women who are 1.)35+ and 2.) smokers. What was most frightening, was the fact that most of the women who have died or are wheelchair bound, due to Nuvaring complications are under 30 and non-smokers.
The reason I have continued my research is because I have realized that for the past two years, I have experienced what I now believe to be side effects. I never had PMS before using the ring. With each year of use, my PMS has become more severe and of longer duration -- up to 2 weeks prior to my period. I have had horrible lower back pain for over 1 year, and x-rays from my chiropractor indicate no symptoms of a structural problem. Even after PT, the pain didn't subside. Additionally, I have experienced the mood swings and depression other women on this site report. I was constantly anxious, frustrated for no apparent reason, angry, and short-tempered to the point of volatile. The change in my personality has been obvious and rather disturbing. I am relieved to know that this shift might have been related, and I am curious to know how I will feel as the hormones from the ring are purged from my system. I am now choosing to use a non-hormonal contraceptive -- the sponge. It's easy, safe, convenient, and not dangerous to my health.
Something all women need to remember -- We are still guinea pigs for the health and pharmaceutical industries. Until women stand up and demand fair and equal respect for their health and welfare (that means vote - and not for those on the side of big business !!!) and stop supporting industries and politicians who LIMIT choices for women, this problem is NOT going away. The Nuvaring is just another example....

Hi everyone
I've been on Levothyroxine since August 2006. Eversince being on them I actually feel worse. I've always weighed 7 and 1/2 stones and I've actually put on half a stone since last August. I watch what I eat and I exercise regularly. Recently I had an increase in my thyroxine to 75mcg and my tummy bloated so badly I looked pregnant. GP has dismissed all this and said he didn't know what it was! I spoke to a rude woman on the phone at British Thyroid Foundation who was extremely rude and unhelpful. She said it wasn't the medication and blamed it on my thyroid! How can it be me when my weight has always been the same? I've never had problems like this before and the more sites I've visited on the net, I've actually found that so many people are unhappy on thyroxine and a lot of them experience bloating and weight gain. so something definately is taking place inside us and the Doctors are ignoring it. Its this medication thats making us worse and we are their guinea pigs and in the years to come they will admit they are in the wrong. There are so many thyroid sufferers and it's all about fobbing us off on cheap stuff. Well all those who don't care about us may it happen to them so they realize how and what we have to go through every single day. I am looking into alternative natural medications and am trying to also change my diet to help. We are stuck cos thyroxine is for life. We are all in the same boat and we have to raise this issue. A good website is thyroiduk.com
The good thing is we are all doing our research into this matter and more we are knowledgeable in this matter the better it is for us. I know Armour works for a lot of people but I can't take Armour.

I was prescribed Levaquin 750 for 5 days and only realized it when I went back to the pharmacy as I could not read the doctors writing on the script. I recalled my sister having a very bad experience with this drug hallucinating, as well as being disoriented. I took one before I confirmed with her this was the drug she had problems with and my heart rate has shot up to 110 per minute normally 78. I am on blood pressure medication which I took after the Levaquin about four hours so I hope it counteracts it. The doctor was told of the medication and conditions I have and went ahead and gave it to me anyway.Needless to say tomorrow I am calling the DR and asking for someting else. The public truely are the pharmacutical company guinea pigs.
