I believe that the biggest key to success with loestrin 24 is to wait it out! you have to give it at the very least 3 months to get in your system and really regulate and for your body to adjust!! i say this only because i have been on it going on 9 months and i love it! the first 6 weeks were horrible! headaches, spotting, back aches, chest pains, swollen feet, acid reflex, my face broke out, dry skin, i even found more hair in the shower than normal for about the first 3 weeks, but you name it, and its a proven side effect, i had it! i have a fever for about 11 days of between 101-103!!! but my obygn just kept telling me this was the pill for me and i though the had lost his ****** mind!! but i did stick it out! all the side effects started to disappear around the beginning of the 3rd month. and so did all the spotting and my period completely!! wow! im 21 and no mood swings, no average side effects of a periods, nothing.. nadda!! its amazing! this is the only bcp i have been on! and i wouldn't change it for anything! but let me remind you, im not on the pill to prevent me from getting pregnant, i have endometriosis!! this is extremely common in white females!! my obgyn said i developed it between the age of 11-14 ( i started my periods when i was 10! and it went totally undetected for 11years! now, my mom always thought i was just a totally baby! but the pain and the blood clots i would pass when i was that young was so scary. but i never went to a obgyn til i was 20 and i had insurance, lived on my own and could afford to go. so now im so happy on the pill! there were times when i was younger that i would give anything to be punched in the lower back cause the pain was so bad! i couldn't stand, i would be walking and just fall to my knees cause the cramps would just take over. this happened at school a lot, but the day it happened at work i knew i had to do something! so they did a few months of blood test, 6 peps smears in about 2 months.. and a few other test and determined it had to be endometriosis!!! if you ever feel like your insides are tearing appart.. you need to ask your obgyn about testing you for endometriosis!!! *google it!!** anyways, back to the bcp, after the fifth month i was happy again, no pain, no more side effects, no moody-ness or random out breaks of tears!!! its amazing. i dating this one guy! and not having a cycle is sooooo wonderful. he loves that i don't have a cycle!! which means no "time of the month" crap to deal with!!! lol!!! i cant tell you how much i love being on this pill. OHHH i almost forget! you can now get your script with or with out insurance for just 24$ a month!!! no matter what! just to buy the pills like like 80 a month, with full coverage insurance ( which i have ) its still 60 a month. well i found this website and i called, answered a few questions and now i get it for just 24 a month!!! ask your obgyn for the info!!! amazing!!

Wow, I'm a bit fr***ked out after reading all these posts. I must be one of the lucky ones, as well. I had my Mirena put on 1 year ago after my first child. It did not hurt and I have had very few of these complications listed. However, I have suspected that my weight gain and inability to lose was a side effect of Mirena. This is what brought me to this site. I've gain 15 pounds and no matter how much I exercise or stage myself...it stays! I also notice now that I read....that I have had a lot of hair loss. I now have a few questions:

I lost my milk supply after going on Mirena and my Dr. assured me this wasn't the cause. Anyone else experience this?

Also, I'm concerned about the effect this will have on my next pregnancy. What has been your experiences once you've started trying again? I was told I would have no problems and should go off 1 month before TTC, but now I'm pretty worried!!

I started taking Doxycycline Hyclate for an infection....i had been taking it for about 4 days.....one night i take the medicine and i go to sleep.....i wake up the following day with the painful and disturbing sensation that something was stuck in my throat.....and drinking a lot of water to make it go away was in vain......in a couple of days i had trouble eating and drinking and also breathing - i felt burns in the upper back...constant pain.....so I just stopped taking them.....After a couple of days i go back to my doctor and try to explain all the symptoms and try to tell him that i think that it has to do with the medicine that he prescribed....he cuts me off "No, that,s not possible, the medicine I prescribed was for something else!" .....ok ....so I'm thinking "he's the doctor, he knows better, after all he went to school for that!!!!" ....so instead of actually listening to all my symptoms he takes blood test to see what is the cause of my pain; an infection? the liver? etc. etc..........and then at night I come home, I google the side effect of Doxycycline Hyclate and see that I am not crazy...that this happened to a lot of people and that I NEED TO CHANGE MY DOCTOR!!!! Oh, by the way, the doctor prescribed me Propoxyphene-N 100W/APAP (some pain relievers) and told me to take them 10 days without stopping even if the pain goes away!!!!!??????!!!!!!?????!!!!........................L.

First of all, I want to say that I'm sorry for all of you having physical discomfort in your lives right now. I feel for anyone who is experiencing such problems.
With that said, I have been on YASMIN (not YAZ - those are two different things people!!!!) for 8 years and have NEVER experienced any problems despite experiencing problems on other pills. Pardon me being frank... If you are one of the women who BARELY started this pill in the last 3-6 months, you may have not given it enough time. You must remember that by taking any medication you are changing the chemical balance of your body and it will take time and adjustments. Bottom line, you need to carefully monitor your problems and discuss them with your ob/gyn and possibly general physician. You may just need to try other pills. This is TRIAL and ERROR, there is NO way for a doctor to be able to know how each person's body will react to any particular drug. Be open and pay attention. If you search about any birth control pills, you can find there are side effects for all of them. Second of all, some of you may have these existing problems, but never noted them until you started taking the pill, or as I said before, you have not allowed time for your body to adjust. For example, when you have a headache or indigestion, you take medication and it takes time for your body to adjust to the meds. Please ladies - don't bad mouth or assume, without first allowing for the already published side effects to come - and most likely, pass. And if they don't - talk to your doctor!!! Seriously!!! The makers even say to talk to you doctors if any of the published side effects happen. I do apologize for being harsh, but I must insist on being practical and reading the material provided. I do hope that each of you stay in good health and have no lasting problems.

I have always had and currently have the side of effect of extreme fatigue associated with the use of synthroid and now Armour thyroid replacement as well.
Whenever my tsh reaches normal levels I become increasingly fatigued. Now I an hardly stay out of the bed and yet my levels are normal.
I have Hashimoto's Disease and am menopausal with severe insomnia to cloud the issue. But the fatigue associated with thyroid replacement is longstanding and has occurred for about 15 yrs. For many years, I would stop taking the medication because of it. My doctors do not believe that the fatigue is related to Synthroid which I find utterly frustrating. Will be looking for another endocrinologist soon. Has anyone out there experienced this side effect of extreme fatigue?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

My daughter is 15 she has always been healthy. After her 3rd Gardasil shot on 10/14/2008 she began having headaches, nausea, vomiting, dizziness tingleing in her hands and fingers (this happened in the next few days after the shot), tiredness, chest pain, stomach pain, face rash, eye itchiness and hot/cold flashes. I am really upset that I allowed my daughter to get this shot. The doctor says she doesn't feel this is from the shot but there is no other explanation since she had none of these problems before! As a mother I feel terribly guilty for letting her get the shot. I haven't seen anything about how long people are having these side effects. Do the side effects go away in time?

i had the iud put in about a month ago when i had it put in i did not feel a thing which my doctor told me that was because it was only 3 weeks after having a child since then i have really bad acne , heavy bleeding to the point i have to sleep with dog training pads just so i don't destroy my bed. no sex drive at all, i have a rash all over my arms, stomach, and legs, migraines but i get those a lot any way, cramping to the point that i am not able to sleep, mood swings like crazy, not wanting to be involved at all with my one month old... if i had to do it all over again i would not have this done even though i cant remember to take the pill i like the side affects that happened with it than the iud that i have now.

Is this normal??? I inserted NuvaRing for the first time August 26th. (During my exam). My NP said it would be okay to start then (although my last period was 08/11), but to use additional contraception. My husband and I have been using condoms since the birth of my daughter 2 years ago - so we continued like normal. Twenty minutes after my appointment, I became very nauseated. The following day I had a severe metallic taste in my mouth and a pounding headache. I became extremely tired (falling asleep at 8:30pm) and got very achy, especially arms and legs. I felt like I was on diet pills or drugs (jetty feeling, trouble spitting out words, racing thoughts). The symptoms would be gone in the morning, but come back as the day wore on. The problems became so bad that I took the Ring out on 08/31. (Holiday weekend, no NP on duty). I called the doctor's office on Tuesday. They said that I probably coincidentally caught a virus. It is now 09/07. My symptoms have become better day by day since removing the Ring, but the metallic taste is now a soap taste and I still have occasional nausea. Shouldn't the hormones be gone by now? How long will this last? Anybody????

My doctor prescribed me with a genetic of wellbutrin called Budeprion. Almost immediately, I noticed a dramatic change with my personality and body. I was very emotional and had extreme mood swings. At first i thought it was just a few bad days, but after a week of crying all the time, and getting upset at almost anything, something was not right. When my boyfriend would ask me what was wrong i couldn't give him an answer, because i had no idea myself. I also had headaches all the time, which is very surprising since i was never one to get them. When i ever moved quickly, my head would be in immense pain and nearly every time i would be on the brink of passing out. Every once and a while the same reaction would occur in bright places due to my ( which of course they weren't before) sensitive eyes. Along with this my stomach pain went through the roof. More so, right after i would eat. I felt weak all the time and it was hard for me to do anything active. Which really upset me since im a runner.

With me this all happened within two weeks, ever since i started taking Budeprion.

Perhaps you should read a little further on the Advair paperwork. I started having all sorts of problems while taking Advair for 4 months, first thing I told Drs. that I was taking Advair, all just ignored that and tried coming up with a reason for problems. I finally did my own research and if you look at the fine print at the end of Advair paperwork you will find your info about heart problems and withdrawal symptoms that you possibly be on another medication while withdrawing from Advair and the Symptoms of withdrawal.
It has been over a year now since I stopped taking Advair and am having lingering heart problems do to Advair, slowly getting over them, but went to the ER two weeks ago due to rapid and irregular heartbeat. Advair has thrown my electrical system out of whack, not to mention the mental stuff.
Ask a Heart Dr. about Advair, I had two pages of problems when I saw the Heart Dr., no surprise, he said all are related to Advair. There are a few of us that are sensitive to this drug and most doctors. have never seen these symptoms and think you are nuts. So be skeptical but don't dismiss these people. Oh by the way after doing a breathing test with the top guy at Pomona Valley Med Center, guess what, I don't have Asthma, so why did My Dr. put me on it in the first place without first getting tested? I am now so sensitive to anything with caffeine or other things that can increase your heart rate that any of them can trigger Palpitations and such. Yes it can help people, but it can also ruin a life, so beware. Oh, My breathing was great while i was on it, but not worth a heart attack or stroke
If I keep having problems I will soon be on Beta Blockers, so you take all the Advair you want, but you've been warned.

My psychiatrist says I have Major depression disorder with Gad and Panic disorder, What a nightmare! I am starting out on 50 mg and then in ten days 75 mg and by the end of the month I should be up to 100 mg. My jaw wont stop shaking, my pupils look bigger. I feel loopy. Kinda drugged. I had very vivid dreams last night. Today was the first day I could actually get out of bed early in the morning. It was great I find the Xanax helped with the shaking but it makes me super sleepy ( only .5 mg) I was on Zoloft before and the same thing happened but I had a loss of sex drive and I couldnt climax...so my doctor gave me this new drug they are trying out. She says you take it an hour before you plan on having sex but other patients say it works. All in all the side effects are worth it to be happy and sane again. My doctor said I wont gain weight like other drugs ( Paxil) so I'm hoping I don't because that would be depressing itself. Good luck to all of you : )

my six year old has been on Adderall xr 10mg for about two months. He gets so upset!!!!! very easy then he cries. He cries so hard sometimes he cant even breath. In school he is doing great still behind academically. He is seeing a neurologist next month to see about a learning disability until then I am very concerned about him getting so up set and crying He even said he didn't think I loved him. That just broke my heart. Before the Meds he had never been like this. As soon as as I held him he calmed right down. I also have a 9yr old that takes 15mg. He suffered a severe Brain injury this past July of 2007 The med is working well with him his Focus. He injured the frontal lobe and right and left side of the brain. If he gets upset it is a bit different too I am assuming it is more the injury I am not sure He is definitely not like my six yr old. They both do have a hard time settling down for bed time at night the DR said that was a big side affect and prescribed them both Melatonin 1 hour before bed that seems to help. s any suggestions I am open.

My birth control problems have been an ongoing problem. . I am a 26 year old nurse. I had been on birth control since about age 16.I was on Ortho tricyclen up until about two and a half years ago. I was noticing that I got nauseated each day around 5 pm when supposedly my hormone level dropped. I would eat and then I would feel better. Now that I think of it, I may have been just a little hypoglycemic. I told my GYN about this and he had me switch to the NuvaRing. I was on that for about 5-6 months when I started to have problems with it. When I had to put it back in after the week out, I would vomit for about 12 hours until my hormone level evened out. After deciding that I was not getting food poisoning each month, and it truly was the ring, I went back to my GYN. He then said that it was too much estrogen for me and prescribed Loestrin 24. I was on that for about 5 months when I started to notice problems. I felt extremely tired all the time. My breasts hurt like hell, and my mood was changing significantly. I was watching TV one night when all of the sudden it felt like someone was just murdered in front of me. I had no idea what was wrong. My husband told me he thought I was having a panic attack. I have never had any problems with anxiety or depression. This happened twice in one week. I had never had any problems with acne, and I looked like I had chicken pox on my back. I was also getting abnormal hair growth. I would cry, and not know why. I then decided that I needed to stop my pills. I called the GYN, and of course they were of no help to me. I then spent about 4-5 months off of BCP's all together. I would still get anxiety the week before my period and then after I started it would get better. I then saw a new GYN who decided it would be good for me to go on Seasonique. I was on that for 5 weeks and all of my symptoms came back. I now have been put on Zoloft to help with my panic attacks. I fight them on a daily basis, and they are more constant than ever before. I truly feel like my hormones are so fucked right now. I have all of these strange thoughts and feel half crazy. I have been to every specialist possible and they all agree that my hormones are out of whack. I am small anyway and have lost about 10 pounds. I only weigh about 98, which is also alarming to me. Okay, well how the hell do you fix all of this without going on another damb pill? I was fitted for a diaphragm and am using that for the time being. I am a smart enough person to know that something is not right. I am seeing a homeopathic specialist this week to try a new approach. I have been to a therapist, and have been tested for everything under the sun. Most frightening was the fact that I was almost put on a beta-blocker. I had a 24 holter monitor for my heart. My median heart rate was in the high 90's. I also had a heart rate that went from 51 to 145 bpm in my sleep. My normal heart rate is in the hig 60's to low 70's. Overall, the Zoloft is starting to help, but I am so angry. I really do feel like we are screwing up our natural chemistry by putting all of these females on hormones. In 20 years or so, we will truly see the effects of what hormone therapy has done to women. It is very scary. I just hope I can get myself evened out. Does anyone have a similar story or any suggestions? Please reply or email me. Any support I can get from other women will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Nurse Billie

This is not my experience but my mothers; She's been taking this poison for 8 years. Her doctor finally(though her bagering) has her at 5 mgs. a day but it's already too late, her spine has had disc fractures to the point where she is completely hunched over, when she first started the drug she had normal bone density. Now her doc wants her sed rate to be 19 before he even considers taking her off the drug, which is ridiculous since I read that most women over 50 average s hard. My brother and I help with some shopping and things but both of us have other obligations(he works full-time; I have husband and two kids) so my dad has alot on his plate.

Prednisone destroys the body, eventually, and sometimes it makes the original condition look like a cakewalk.

I was given prednisone for extreme posion ivy at 4years old. I ended up getting posion ivy at least 6 times a year until I was 12 years old. I had posion ivy so bad that my doctor would give me a predisone shot and the pill form along with something to stop the itching. By the time I was 6 years old I noticed my clitours had enlarged, and I was able to have mutilple orgasm's, at that age I didn't understand what was going on but I didn't care. I started to notice I was the fastest and strongest child in my school. I became very muscular and a little agressive. These side affects got even more extreme as I got older. I wasn't sure why I was the way I was, I just assumed that it was normal, but I knew I was different then the other girls. I ended up having over 100 shots of prednison by the time I was 12 years old. I stoped getting posion ivy when I was 13 and stoped taking predinsone. I became real tried and wanted to sleep all day, were before I had so much energy. It got to a point where I lost all sexual feeling and I became very depressed and frustrated. I just spirled down from that point not knowing why. I had sex for the first time when I was 16 and it was painfull, that's when I knew something was reeally wrong. I started looking for answers and found that taking prednisone had made me feel great when I was taking it but once I stoped I didn't even feel like a person anymore. I got posion ivy again when I was 21 and was given prednisone again. I started to notice that not only did my posion ivy go away but I got my energy back and sexual feeling for about 2 months, I was a whole new person. That's when I really relized what had happend. I went to a doctor and told them what I had experianced. They checked my hormone levels, and found out that my body wasn't making enough testosterone or estrogen, explaining why I lost energy and sexual feeling. I started taking depo testosterone and it has changed my life. The doctor's were hesitant to give it to me, but when they saw the changes in my hormonem levels and the changes with me mentaly, we decided to keep taking it. I ended up having to find my own answer's because no doctor understood why I was feeling that way. I will have to have hormone therapy for the rest of my life. Doctor's told me before I started taking testosterone that I had the hormone levels of an 80 year old women, and I was only 21. Now I am 25 and have been on hormone therapy for 4 years, I am only half way there hormonally, I hope I get to feel like a noraml 25 year old, but I might not be where I need to be until I'm 30. I lost so much of myself and my life to this drug predinsone. If I could re-du it I would have never taken it.

Hi everyone,
It's been a while since I posted. I have been trying to stay away from the computer because it gets me into trouble with looking things up. Anyway i have been on the lexapro now for 5 weeks. I am still only on a 5mgs. I have to say for me it made a huge improvement quickly. My doctor did believe it was the Yaz that messed me up so badly. He is not pushing to raise me and really thinks this dose will do the trick. Like I said in my other post, I never wanted to take an A/D but at that point in my life i did not have a choice. I still have some annoying symptoms left over but on the whole, my anxiety has decreased alot, I am not crying much anymore. I am able to go out and function. The only problem I still have is the sleep and also symptoms seem to be popping back up after my period ends around ovulation time. That is what I am going through right now. My issue is the body jerks at night. I have been doing really well and then they started again a couple of nights ago. I am on 13 cycle days and went back to my journal last month and saw this happend around the same time. I also have muscle flutters throughout my body. That is annoying as well. I sometimes also get tingling and numbness in my hands and feet. Istart to worry about nerve damage. I wish I could say its from the lexapro, but all this started before the lexapro, after the yaz of course. A/D are not for everyone and my doctor was surprised how quickly I started feeling better. He thinks it's becasue I am so small and tiny in weight. Everyone needs to do what is right for them. Right now I just want to get better and be able to take care of my family. I have made alot of progress. I still get very angry and wonder why this had to happen and wonder if the body jerking will ever go away and if I will ever be able to sleep again like I use to. I really believe the Yaz scrambled my brain. I am also in therapy to learn how to deal with the way my life has changed through all of this. I am lucky that she agrees too about the Yaz. I wish there were more opened minded doctors out there. It's really frustrating how they just put woman on b/c pills without even checking us out and making sure we don't have anything else wrong with us. Especially with Yaz and Yasmin. They both are dangersous because of the potassium in it. This pill really should be taking off the market. Oneday someone is going to die from this pill and hopefully we don't have long term damage done to us.

When I was seven years old i had my tonsils removed, now 24 years old. They used Anectine on me, when I had awakened the doctor was telling me not to worry. I couldn't move, I couldn't respond, I couldn't give them a sign that I heard them, and I was seven years old very very scared. I remember coming out of my body, hovering to be exact. My father had bought me a new Wilson basketball, my first basketball ever. The next thing I remembered is me waking up and asking where my family was and my new basketball. Everyone was shocked about me knowing about the basketball, the doctor had explained that I had "heard it". Me being a person with great memory, I explained to everyone that the label of the basketball was "Wilson". That is when the doctor had explained the whole theory about "coding".

I am not really sure what had happened that day 17 years ago, but for some reason I think it has happend to someone else or someone knows exactly what that "coding" was.

Ive been on 4 different birth controls this year because none of them seemed to work. I would always have breakthrough bleeding. Around the beginning of october this year, the doc put me on Yasmin and it finally seemed to control everything....

well I dont know if this has anything to do with the pill or not but its the only thing that seems to make sense... I have totally lost my interest for sex. I dont think about it, I dont get horny, and I dont have a desire for it. My lover is getting a bit frustrated with me you could say... but its not him; i know that. I am just blah and i dont want it! I really dont know how to explain it.

Has this happend to anyone else while on Yasmin??

i am 19 years old and have been on Yasmin for almost 2 years. at first it was great decreased my pms symptoms. Just recently my period flow has picked up I get cramps again and have had a yeast infection back to back with a UTI and now i think a bacterial infection. I also have noticed a dramastic change in mood swings. I will cry for no reason, feel unhappy for no reason, and just be angry for no reason. I am an emotional person, but I usually can control myself. I find myself getting mad at my boyfriend and friends for no reason, and i cant control the mood swings. has this happend to anyone? and why has it taken so long? I was just wondering if anyone has had the same problems. thanks!

Hi everyone, so glad to find this website. I am a 28 year old mother of 2 and married. I really need some help. I am so scared of being committed in an institution. I was on Aleese for 2 1/2 years and then switched to Yasmin. I was on Yasmin almost 2 months but could not finish it. First severe abdominal cramps started with constipation, then frequent urination, like every half hour. Then the real nightmare happend. The severe anxiety and depression. For the first time in my entire life I was not able to sleep. I had total insomnia due to bad muscle aches and body jerking. I have been off for 3 wks exactly and still have the body jerking everytime I try to fall asleep. I never had anything like this before. The only time I can sleep is when I take Xanax which was prescribed for me after taking Yasmin. Now I keep thinking I am dying of something horrible like a brain tumor. I lost 4lbs which is not good. I was only 94lbs to begin with. The anxiety is so bad, I can't even function. I feel awful. I went to a Chropractor for the first time yesterday and he can't believe how tight my muscles are. What in the world could be causing these sleep jerks at night. I never ever had anything wrong with me. All of these symptoms started within a week of taking Yasmin. I am so angry. I am on no b/c pills now. Is it normal to have all of these side effects? What about the muscle jerking at night. I am so scared. I can't even take care of my kids. My health has just been declining in the last 2 months. I am so afraid I will not get through this. any help would be greatly appreciated

I went back on my old pill, Trivora, yesterday and I am feeling okay. I have had sex issues the past couple months while on Yasmin though. I have a boyfriend that I have been with for almost two years and I love him sooooo much. Well out of the blue I started to question my sexuality for some reason, since being on Yasmin. WHAT"S WRONG WITH ME? Has this happend to anyone else? I never questioned whether I liked boys or not until I went on this pill--- it is soooo wierd. I know I love my boyfriend, but lately I have just been feeling wierd sexually. Can anyone relate?
By the way I have found that Protein is soooo important when you are feeling panicky. Have a protein shake and you might feel better- I do.

I was on Yasmin for 9 or 10 months and where I had no headaches, anxiety attacts or depression I didn't feel like myself. I use to be very active...I loved to run and workout and most of all I loved sex. I have been off Yasmin for almost 3 months and I feel alot better, my energy level is making a comeback and my sex drive is definitely back, but I have not had my period since I stopped the pill. I was fairly regular before ever going on the pill so I just assumed I would be regular after. I am having blood work done in the next few weeks so hopefully everything will be ok, but has this happend to anyone else?
