I am a generally active and fairly healthy 77 yr old who had been taking 10 mg of Lipitor for over 12 years with no obvious adverse effects. Recently I started having pain in my right leg, severe enough to wake me at night. This was followed by a significant weakness in both legs, and for a while, accompanied by a lightheartedness. The doctor had me take a series of lumbar and leg x-rays which didn't show much of significance. He wrote a prescription for physical therapy, which I did not follow.
I did internet research on my own which made me aware that Lipitor could be the cause, in spite of the fact that I had tolerating the drug for so many years. I told the Doctor of my suspicions and we agree to stop the Lipitor for at least 6 weeks to see. A few days later, all my symptoms were gone. So be cautious, adverse effects from Lipitor can occur anytime.

Have stopped taking Zocor today after finally accepting that my life has changed since taking this medication....am too weak to open a soda bottle, keep twisting words, memory is shot, Hips, knees and ankles scream whenever I have been sitting for more than 15 minutes....light headed, dizzy and constant headache...want to just curl up in a ball and cover my head for loss of ambition. I am exhausted all of the time.

I am a 43 year old male in good health that decided to get off lipitor about 3 days ago due to the advice of my physician. I have been on it for 3 years at 20 mg daily. I am an avid runner completing 3 marathons in the last 4years, but lately haven't been able to run more than a mile or so without feeling tightness in my abs, legs, hips, and most recently my hands and elbows have mild to moderate pain. I've been noticing this over the past few months or so. I always thought it was due to over training, but I am convinced these are not normal muscle soreness/strain and I am eager to share my results as to how I feel in a few weeks/months. Today, which is day 3 without the drug, I have INCREASED pain in my hand, and an overall fatigue feeling. Has anyone else noticed this upon stopping the drug? God help all of us. This can't be doing mankind any good other than making the drug companies rich, and unfortunately, most physicians believe that these statins are wonder drugs, and prescribe them like candy.

PICAPEACH - I'm a little confused...you can have sex with as many guys as you want and you're not a slut if they wear a condom? How dumb are you? Make sure you sign up for some sex ed classes at Harvard...oh, and if you want to start debates over trying to prove how much cooler and smarter you are then everyone, they have other places for that. They're called chat rooms. Not medication discussion boards where people are trying to get help and advice. Seeing how ignorant you are it's my guess you slept your way to the top for that scholarship, its OK though, I am sure you made them all wear condoms.
Have a fabulous day!

Listen Picapeach…I feel fine about what I said. You ARE insensitive. And just because you were molested, does mean you are not. And just because you have a “genious IQ” doesn’t mean you are not insensitive. It sounds like you may have some book smarts, but no common sense. Just because you were molested, doesn’t mean you have the right to put people down. In fact, you should probably be more sensitive to other people’s feelings. You mention people being old, fat, sluts in your posts when people are trying to just talk about serious side effects and feelings. That’s just plain in-sensitive. I too was molested as a child, so I know how awful it is, but that doesn’t give you cart blanch to be rude and insensitive to people. If you are really going to Harvard next year, you better learn some manners and learn how to be an adult. Harvard doesn’t take kindly to rude, insensitive, nasty people. I’d like to chalk your issues up to your age. You may want to print what you wrote out and read it in 10 years after you have had some life experiences. You’ll realize how in-sensitive you really are. All these posts you have written back to and you are still calling people names. You can certainly post that you have not had any problems with the pill; its good to get all opinions but what everyone here is “jumping on you” about is how rudely you put your comments. Like someone who has side effects has to be old, fat, a smoker or a slut. That’s just simply not true. Not true at all. Let this be the end of these crazy posts.

hey picapeach, you first off need to grow up, 17 years old and you think you have all the answers. I think you should be spending your time in a book learning how to spell than to be making nasty remarks to people. First off I am 31 that is not old, and what is your issue with fat people. Some poeple are just not meant to be a size 4 sweety. I am not fat but I dealt with an eating disorder for years. If it makes you happy to put others down than you need more help than you could ever imagine, spend your energy in a book and get an education your are ignorent.

Actually, i have been on the pill for a week and a half and it is perfect!!! I am 17 years old, almost 18 and i think it is amazing, i take it at the same time everyday i mean EXACTLY the same time, 9pm everyday, not 9 :03 0r 8:58, 9 pm my doctor said that taking it at night helps if there are any side effects. Which there are not!!! In fact, my boobs are bigger, i have lost 5 pounds , i was not over weight at all , and am not under weight now. just fyi, anyway all of the postings are like crazy, all these people complaning o im moody my boobs hurt, SUCK IT UP!!!, everyone responds to medicine deiferently and posting what happened to u is fine, but dont complain, anyway, i just wanted to post this for anyone who is getting freaked out by all of the other information. As long as ur not old, fat, a smoker, or a cranky lil Bit*h ur gonna be fine.
