Hi, I had mirena placed two months ago after giving birth to my 3rd child. I wish I would've seen this site before I make my decision of using Mirena. My first symptom was chest pain and it was followed by heart palpitations, lower back pain, dizziness, heart burn, etc...... I asked my obgyn and he said "IS NOT MIRENA" the cause of your symptoms. I had to see a Cardiologist because I felt that I was going to die in any minute from a heart attack. My Cardiologist said you are to young to have heart problems. I had an ekg, blood work, echo, and stress test done. nothing seems to be wrong with me "Medical terms" you are fine. But I knew something was wrong, I got my own diagnosis "MIRENA" was the cause of all my symptoms. I have it removed about two weeks ago and I finally feel normal again. No more side effects. Please ladies do your own research really good before using this or any other medication that your doctor gives you and please DON'T trust your Dr. 100%, they are not always right. Good luck to all of you.

Symptoms I have:
NOTES on health since day after I started the Lisinipril.
9-03-07 – started taking Lisinopril
9-05-07 – Saw Dr. for Bladder infection (left urinalysis with doctor). Prescribed a sulfite antibiotic for bladder infection.
9-06-07 – First symptoms began; trouble urinating
9-06-07 – Called Dr. Kuebals office to let them know that I was having trouble urinating. I also asked if they got the lab test (urinalysis) back yet. The nurse let me know that I had strep in my urine (very rare she said) but they will be prescribing me macrobid and to stop the first antibiotic.
9-06-07 – Began taking macrobid
9-11-07 – Unable to urinate at all
More symptoms after a few more days of taking this drug: Heart pounding in my chest, Achy skin, panic/anxiety attacks (hard to catch breath, heavy chest), Cold feet, hot sweats and chills, urinary retention, bladder infections, ultra sensativety (body to the touch), muscle cramps, arms, legs, back and neck feel heavy. I can't even lift my arms to fold clothes they get so heavy.
9-12-07 – went to the ER to get catheterized
9-14-07 – At hospitals request (doctor at hospital) saw a urologist although he thought that this was most likely a cause of the bladder infection and that I might have some swelling around the urethra or he also suggested that it might be caused by a tear or “stretch” in the urethra from not being able to urinate due to the pain of urinating. I didn’t not think that one, because as soon as I was not able to urinate, I knew that I would need a catheter until we figured out what was wrong.
9-14-07 – Removed catheter at urologist office
9-15-07 – Early am – went to ER again to get catheterized as I was still unable to urinate
9-19-07 – Went to CT Scan requested by Urologist
9-20-07 – Nurse removed 2nd Catheter at Urology Office and said to come back by four if I still could not urinate on my own.
9-20-07 – Researched Lisinopril to find UT could be caused by Lisinopril (medications.com) and saw the side effects that some people were having with this drug. Also learned that this was a derivative of venom from a Brazilian snake (thus the symptoms of feeling achy, sick, tired, muscle weakness and urinary retention
9-20-07 – Went back to urologist to let them know that I still could not urinate and they showed me how to self catheretize. Also, as of the evening of 9-19-07 stopped Lisinopril.
Between the ER doctors, my PCP and my Urologist, they have heard me complain about all of these symptoms but they refused to connect them to the Lisinopril.

I was given topamax to treat headaches and cyclical mood disorder. I was not given any info about side effects or that, at the time(April of 2006), the drug was not FDA approved for treating mood disorders. I took about 3 25mg tablets a day for 6 weeks and started noticing pain in my chest, stomach, back, and neck, my heart felt irregular as well. Towards the end of the 6 weeks, I felt so bad that at times that I had to crawl to the bathroom at home because my body and heart felt so weak. I weighed 135 pounds before starting the drug and 117 after, lot of weight to lose for me in such a short period of time(my weight very rarely fluctuates at all). I started noticing that when I would eat a large meal, I would then be hungry with an empty stomach an hour later, and about 15-20 minutes after taking my 2nd pill for the day I would feel shooting chest pains and become slightly dizzy, I would take my third pill at home a couple before bed and the symptoms were even worse. I called the on-line nurse late at night a few times and they would say it was just anxiety, my friends and family that knew about all this would also say that I was just worrying too much. I decided to take matters in my own hands and started doing research on the drug. I found all the information I needed, that was not given to me, decided I was experiencing some of the specific side effects people had noticed. I finally decided on my own to stop taking the drug after my doctor told me that all this was because I wasn't taking a high enough dosage, I still can't believe that she said that!!
Now that I've had some time to look back and gather myself a little, I know that I also experienced side effects such as dizziness, loss of taste, decreased sex-drive, Loss of wittiness, feeling like being in slow-motion, slurring speech, heartbeat going from 64bpm sitting on the couch to 128bpm after walking to the bathroom to pea, difficulty breathing, basically felt like crap but was too drugged up to really notice.
It did stop my headaches and stabalized my mood but I think the improvements in mood were primarily due to the fact that I wasn't all there. DEFINETLY NOT WORTH ALL THE SIDE EFFECTS!!!
As soon as I stopped taking this, I felt much better in the head, noticing that I was probably running on about 70% for the past few weeks. Also gained back all the weight very quicky. I felt like myself again and was rejuvanized in my life!! Primarily all the side effects disappeared and I moved on with my life. Unfortunately the chest pains slowed down but did not disappear. I felt like, and still feel like, I had a broken Sternum. I went to the same clinic and had numerous tests done(EKG, blood tests, X-rays), everything came up clear. I have had to tell some of my friends, numerous times in the past year, not to restle with me or hug me too hard because it hurts.
I have not been taking any perscription drugs for the past 14 months because of all of this and now have recently started feeling increased pain in my chest(the chest pains never completely went away) . I do not have health insurance but am going to get this all checked out ASAP, I will post again once I find out what's going on.

i don't think yasmin will be removed from the market as it does seem to help some people,i have no idea why some people do really well on it and others like many of us on this site suffer some awful effects. i have seen on some web pages that yasmin is actually prescribed for pmdd and pms...... maybe it works well for people who already have a hormonal disorder by overriding their system?????? but for the rest of us who were fine pre yasmin maybe it over doses us with synthetic hormones. i have no ideas really but i have heard people who started out with hormone related emotional problems have improved on yasmin..maybe it should be presecribed as a treatment for hormonal dysfunctions instead of a cure all wonder pill! I don't necessarily believe it should be taken off the market as i can help people but i do believe that the health care professionals should at least recognise the terrible effects we can get from it instead of sending us out of the office saying we have suddenly developed an anxiety disorder or depression or testing us for hundreds of different things when the only thing that has changed is that we started taking this pill. women should be monitored more carefully when taking synthetic hormones.
sorry for the long rant ladies!!!

Twogirlsmom: Thank you so much for your reply! You and everyone else are a great source of comfort.
Another question--if I only noticed the anxiety effects of Yasmin the last month that I took it, does that mean my recovery may be a bit shorter than the women who noticed the anxiety, panic and depression for many months before realizing it was Yasmin?
Also, how do we convince people that this is all true? I know in my heart that Yasmin is the reason I am going through this, but the bitchy nurse at my doctor's office refused to believe me and said that all the effects should be gone in a few weeks, therefore implying that any anxiety and depression after that time period is actually MY problem. I was not like this before Yasmin, I swear! I feel like my personality has been stripped from me. I mentioned to the nurse that there are MANY websites out there that have women writing in and talking about Yasmin, and she scoffed and said that you cannot always believe the internet. It is so frusterating because on the pill pack it says to talk to your doctor if you have any adverse side effects, but when we do talk to our health care professionals, no one believes us!

Hello Ladies,
I have posted several times before and thought I would add a few things. I have experienced the EXTREME weight gain and bloating in a very short time, sweats, migraines, problems with vision and contact lenses, chest pains, on and on. As with many of you, my side effects only got WORSE when I went off. I was only on for 5 months! I've been off since July 19 and I'm continuing to expand, which is SOOOOOO depressing.
Anyway, I've reported all of this to Berlex Labs and suggest you all do the same. I've also requested a call back from one of their "health care" professionals to see if they know of a recomended protocol to turn this monster around and get my body back. You can write me privately for contact info.
I'va also contacted FDA and the individual with whom I spoke was a very kind and understanding gentleman. He HIGHLY suggested we post our problems with YASMIN on FDA'S adverse event reporting system. I haven't done it yet but he said you just go to FDA.gov and on the right side click on "FDA activities", which will take you to their MEDWATCH site. This is where we should report our problems. This can be done directly on-line or copy and send a fax. If you send it online be sure to click "SUBMIT REPORT" at the top to be sure it goes through and you will receive a confirmation email.
I am FURIOUS that we've all been put through this and want to stop it for other women if possible. I understand that b/c pills have their share of consequences, but this one really takes the cake.
Blessings to you all,
Rita

I don't have a new side affect just a comment about how uninformed some of our health care professionals are. I called and spoke to my docs nurse today to ask about the acne that has formed on my forehead and back, just to find out how long this might take to go away she stated that this was not a side effect from pred........ WHAT! I can't believe she said that. I love this board, if i had not found it i would be in total worry right now thinking what could be causing this acne, but by reading all the info provided by actual users, it has much more meaning to me as to what is a side effect by all the people that have exper this.
