Hi, about seven years ago I complained to my doctor of noticing a little thinning at the top of my head. They referred me to a dermatologist who thought it was female hair pattern loss. It was minimal and he said that he rarely saw it get much worse in women. He suggested minoxidil. A year later, I relocated and the doctors at the health clinic noticed my blood pressure was slightly elevated. They put me on HCTZ. I am into healthy organic eating and was disturbed by the need to be on medication. They said HCTZ was a mild diuretic and never mentioned that hair loss is associated with it. After five years on HCTZ my hair loss is severe. I have lost half my hair and it is dry and brittle, no matter what styling products I use. I had long beautiful thick glossy natural hair, but the texture of my hair has totally changed. A few days ago, frustrated by the continual hair loss, I began searching for my own answers. In my first web search, I pulled up many connections to HCTZ and hair loss, including this site. As others have said, I am mad at myself for not taking my health care into my own hands sooner. I have stopped HCTZ and my blood pressure is being controlled by diet, exercise, and drinking plenty of water. What I would like to know-- is HCTZ hair loss reversible? Are there any reputable natural solutions to hair regrowth. (And minoxidil has been disappointing.) Thanks for your comments. They have helped immensely. GG.

started Yasmin almost 3 years ago. my doctor gave me samples for a bit over a year because I didn't want my mom to know I was on it so I couldn't use our insurance and didn't have money (i was just barely 16). Everything was great. I didn't notice any weight gain, it didn't give me any acne, and I thought I noticed my breasts get a little bigger. When he ran out of samples, I went to a free sex health clinic because they sell packs for $5. They didn't have Yasmin so I took Alesse. just after a week of being on it, I started feeling really bloated and got a crazy amount of acne (I had never had acne before) and so at the end of the month I stopped being on it and took a break from birth control for 3 months. Then, desperate, I got Yasmin with my family's insurance and the bloated feeling went away and the acne got a little better. although, the acne is still there now, nearly a year later. i have been on Yasmin for the past 9 or 10 months (im guessing) and i still have some acne. it is not horrible, but really annoying because i am sure i would have never had it if i hadn't switched to alesse. also, since i tried alesse, my hair and face gets greasy really fast and constantly have to wash it. i think i may stop taking Yasmin at the end of this cycle and take a break for a half a year or so to try to get my body back to normal. any suggestions?

I've had horrid luck with hormonal birth control. all other methods i tried made my breasts grow, made me sick to my stomach or made me spot constantly. i have been trying to find a method that will let me regulate my disabling cramps so i can avoid missing work every month or disolving my stomach lining with pain killers. i went on Yasmin a few years ago and at first thought i had finally found the answer: no more cramps, and no gross hormonal side effects. i stayed on Yasmin for three years until i realized that my libido was gone. absolutely gone. i was in a happy relationship, i exercise regularly, eat well and am not depressed. i talked to a NP coworker (i work at a reproductive health clinic) and she told me about Yasmin's anti-androgenic effects. no androgens, thus no libido. i quit Yasmin that day. now i have my beloved sex drive back but still haven't found a cure for my cramps.

Started on 20mg 4 days ago. Started to have severe anxiety and panic attacks, unable to focus eyes properly, legs not part of me, daren't drive. Visited emergency health clinic twice in one day with stroke symptoms. BP 160/100, slurred speech, metallic taste in mouth, no appetite. Will not take anymore of this so called medicine. It could have killed me.

I share the story of many others on this site...

Severe fall allergies, despite years of ineffective perscription allery pills and steroid nasal sprays. Nothing seemed to work. A doctor at my University health clinic suggested the shot (actually Triamcinelone). I've been getting the shot (now Kenalog) every September for 10 years, and absolutely love it. In fact, my wife and kids can't wait for me to get it, because allergies turn me into a grumpy, tired monster! Over the counter pills make me extremely sluggish and irratable.

10 years, no dents or headaches! Just pure relief... if you can't find a doctor who will give it to you, keep searching. I've also been able to convince a doctor or two by suggesting that I will only need 1 low dose shot. Many are hesitant (in my opinion) because they're afraid you'll keep coming back to ask for more. Just 1 a year does it for me. Hope this helps.
