Wow, I never thought that some of the health problems I experienced in the past few years was related to Yasmin until I read this website. I had been on Yasmin for 5 years, I just went off of it in late August as my husband and I would like to have children next year. I found this website because I wanted to know what sort of side effects I would get by going OFF the pill. Well, let me tell you, by being ON Yasmin for 5 years, I experienced the following:
-major migraines (never experienced these - 4 were blinding where i had to just lay down because i couldn't hold my head up)
-weight gain (a lot of weight, for virtually no reason)
-shortness of breath (when i've never had that before)
-high blood pressure (when i've never had that before)
-heart palpitations (when i've never had that before)
-anxious feelings, especially in work situations
-loss of energy - inability to work out for no real reason
i am 31 years old with no health problems before going on Yasmin. now that i have been off it for almost 2 months, i feel 10x better both physically and mentally! i hope to lose the weight i gained while on Yasmin. i just got my blood pressure taken this past weekend it was normal-low. the last 2 times i had it taken while i was on Yasmin, it was high.
if you are taking this pill, please go off of it ASAP. Tell your friends not to take it as well.

I am a 21 year old female and just started taking paxil for anxiety & depression. My mother is on the same thing (heart problems run in the family), and I have only been on it for 2 weeks so far, but have experienced many side effects. They have included: Dry mouth, headaches (only a couple slight ones and this wasn't bad since I do get migraines now and then), urinating more frequently--especially the first few days but this has already gotten better-- strange, vivid, night-marish dreams, flu-like symptoms (I missed 2 days of work last week due to this, and it is hard to know if it was the meds or not since the flu is actually going around!), a very itchy rash on my left inner wrist that came and went the same day, mood swings--which I also had before-hand, however-- More hungry but also get full fast, so I eat more often but have smaller portions.
The plus-side so far is that my boyfriend and I both notice I am happier. I feel more like I use to and it's nice. I just don't know yet if it is worth the side effects now and when I need to get off of it.. I am concerned also about getting pregnant and what will happen then if I am still on the paxil. I have read about a lot of health problems with pregnancies and birth with women who are on paxil even during the first trimester, yet you are not suppose to abruptly stop taking it. Has anyone else gone through this I can talk to or who can post about it?? I'm nervous that I am just too young still to be on it and I do want a family.. also has anyone heard of paxil causing infertility? I have been looking for more info but not found what I'd like...
Thank you, C.

I really had a terrible experience with yaz. I am glad I found this website because I see that a majority are having side effects and I don't feel so alone. In first month ok but very angry, anxious, moody. Between packs i felt horrible.Had severe headache.High blood pressure and called doctor and landed in emergency room for possible stroke. fought with boyfriend and was psycho on it. i was told by doctor to stop taking Yaz. it took me a month to feel better and get my blood pressure ok. i am normally happy, healthy and well adjusted with no health problems. I finally feel like myself after 1 mo.It may be ok for some people but i think something is wrong with Yaz for most people.

I had Mirena inserted July 2009 and I have been spotting off and on ever since, which my doctor told me would happen for about 6 months or so. The insertion itself was painless, I barely noticed that my doctor did it. I don't know if I just have a high tolerance for pain or if I just have a great doctor, because my experience sounds nothing like some of the other women.
As far as other symptoms, I think so far everything is going good and I am very pleased with it. My periods are lighter, but the spotting off and on is getting a little annoying. I think so many people are quick to blame something on their health problems, and not look at the big picture.
Mirena== good choice for me!

I have been on LIPITOR for years 10mg. at least 8years my doctor told me as long as my blood tests were normal "I had nothing too worry about" through the years I had so many health problems, along with so many tests I thought this pain was normal. My pain was gradually getting worse I started to think this pain has to be because of my age.I'm 67yrs old. Last week I had an appointment with one of many Drs. I mentioned that I felt more pain than usual when I told him I was taking Lipitor he was concerned I was told this medication I should stop but it was up to me if I wanted too or not. I had an appointment with another doctor the same day to found out the results of all my blood tests. I was pleased that all my blood were within normal range but there was the blood test for muscle enzyme,CPK was mildly elevated. I was told that Lipitor could make that test elevated. I had another test that that day and was called and was told that that blood test was elevated a little more.I have been off Lipitor for one week now and never going back to taking Lipitor again. I'm so glad I found out about Lipitor and the damage it could do to your health. I'm also grateful for finding this sight by accident. I hope one day I will feel better also I'm not going back to the Dr. that started me on Lipitor and wanted me to stay on it!

I'm 23 and just started Loestrin 24. I noticed the negative side effects immediately- nausea, cramping, constant headache, breakthrough bleeding, and severe depression. In general, I feel sick and unwell; ironically, I feel like I'm in the first trimester of a pregnancy. My doctor told me it may take a few cycles for me to adjust to this pill but I don't think I want to commit to a pill that causes this many adverse health problems. I think a baby would be less hassle!

I have extreme back pain and cramping everyday and cramping not to mention I am now on happy pills because I have severe depression. I know for some people this works great but for the majority it causes major health problems...I am going to get it out my doctor wanted to check my thyroid but I do not think it is me I think it is the Mirena since 99% of the women on here could write my story and don't even know me!!!! I DON'T RECOMMEND MIRENA TO ANYONE!!!!!! KM. Ca

I had my Mirena placed in the first of may, it was very very very painful. The following months I had spotting and bleeding EVERY day, I had no energy what so ever. Some days I even felt pregnant, and not to mention my face, I looked like a teenager again, horrible acne!
Then I started having this tingling and stinging sensation in my hands and feet, I googled it and all I could find was MS(multiple sclerosis)! In shock I did a search in English(I'm from Norway) and found that I was NOT the only one having MS symptoms with the Mirena! I had the Mirena removed this week, but I still have the symptoms, but I guess it takes a little time for the hormones to leave the body completely!! My boyfriend said to me "let`s hope you didn't get MS from the Mirena".. And I am of course terrified... I have an appointment with the doctor at the end of the week!
I just don't think that this is a coincident!

wow- glad I found you guys! I'm female, 54, thin, healthy, have always exercised and watched my diet. cholesterol went up to 280 a couple of yrs ago- tried more diet/exercise but it only came down to 250, so since then have tried 4 low-dose (40 mg) statins (crestor, lipitor, zocor, and now pravastatin), all of which after 2-6 months made me feel like I was jumping out of my skin and caused chest pain and palpitations that stopped almost immediately when I discontinued them. Also, I've always fallen asleep quickly and now take an hour or more, and recently my fingers have started falling asleep/tingling. I'm stopping the pravastatin today! Maybe 250 isn't so bad, if this is the alternative. Does anyone have any remedies to suggest besides low fat/low sugar diet? I just read that we should avoid reduced-fat milks (I drink 1%) because they contain oxydized cholesterol, which irritates the artery wall.

hello ladies, i'd like to start off by thanking you all for your posts, i read before i started my first pack of loestrin 24 fe so i could see what i might be expecting with starting the pill. i went to the gyno for the first time back in june, i went due to other health problems. for my whole sophomore year i was sick, all of the time, i'm 16 years old, and school is a very important part of my life right now, but with being sick all the time, i was absent a lot. i was absent on each period, as well. my doctor knew something was up so he ordered a blood test, the test came back and my hemoglobin was very low, he had me take 2 iron pills a day for a month then sent me back for another blood test, after the second blood test my hemoglobin was back up, but my iron was still very low. he asked me questions about my menstrual cycle and i answered, they've always been very bad, really heavy bleeding and clotting for the 5-8 days i was on it, very bad cramping as well, and i was very tired, and dragged out while i was on my period, always ended up getting sick while i was on it as well, so he came to the conclusion that i was anemic because of my menstrual cycles, so he sent me to the gyno. mind you, this was my first time being there and i was terrified! haha, she gave me a pap & pelvic exam, then an ultra sound on my ovaries and uterus to make sure everything was normal before putting me on the pills, she put me on them because of the iron that they have in them and to slow my periods down. i'm starting my third week on my first pack of the pills tomorrow, and i for the last 2 weeks i've been very very irritable, the smallest things make me very angry at any time. and have had some crazy mood swings, one minute i'm laughing and happy, then the next i'm crying because i dropped something. i get bad headaches, and i always feel like i'm going to vomit. i don't have much of an appetite, and when i do try to eat, or after i eat i feel like i'm going to vomit. i've also had some cramping and a couple days of spotting, i've had some hot flashes as well, and my sex drive has slightly increased. i feel awkward saying that, haha. but, i'm not taking them for sexual reasons, just health reasons. and i hope that the pills end up working out for me and those health issues. & i hope they work out for all of you, too. :)

I just had the Mirena removed after 2 years with it (finally connected the dots that it was causing all of my health problems). I've had it out for 6 days now, and I feel so sick. Every night, around 5 p.m., it feels like really bad morning sickness or flu (do hormones fluctuate naturally around that time?). I'm a working single mom (recently divorced...scared THAT might not have happened if I weren't so emotionally damaged by the Mirena), and I can't just take it easy and ride it out. When does the nausea stop? I've read that it's taken some people a YEAR to get over the side effects after having Mirena removed. I don't want to feel like this for a year...what can I do besides the nutritional supplements, etc? I need to function! Please help if you have any advice (or at least let me know if you felt this nausea and when it went away.) I appreciate it!

I feel so relieved to have found this website. I am going to call the doctor and have my Mirena removed ASAP! I have been experiencing many different random health problems lately. Which is strange because I am an extremely healthy person. My husband was laid off from his job and we lost his health insurance, so through all my symptoms I have just been suffering through it because I couldn't afford to go to a million doctors and have a million different tests run to find out the source of my symptoms. It started with itchy hives on all of my joints, elbows, knees, knuckles, toes and fingers. Then a symptom I had gotten during my pregnancies called PUPPP which is basically ugly, little, red bumps that ooze a clear liquid and itch like the dickens on my hands, fingers and legs. Then a big knot developed under the skin on my right wrist. The pain started on top and started radiating all the way around my wrist. Then the numbness, tightness and pin-prick pain occurred in my fingertips, then my hand, then my entire arm went numb from the elbow down. I also had horrible pain in my reproductive area on two different occasions that had me doubled over in pain. It felt exactly like contractions. I also have been bleeding every day for several months. Not enough to call it a full blown period, but bleeding every day. Some days, blood streaked mucus, other days full on blood clots would drain out of me. I've has horrible back pain and have been very fatigued even when I am careful to take care of myself. I also am naturally a very optimistic person who can handle bumps in the road of life, but lately, even though I hate to admit it, I have been down-right depressed. I have lost interest in all my interests, have a hard time shaking off life's set-backs, find myself on the verge of tears a lot, and basically have just wanted to pull the covers over my head and not wake up until I can just feel like myself again. Then last night my lips started to tingle, numb and swell. Then the same thing happened again tonight. I told my husband I am just falling apart and don't know what's wrong with me! I have never had any health problems before and now it's a new symptom practically daily. He said he had been doing some research and that he thought I was allergic to my IUD. I immediately Googled "Allergic reactions + Mirena" and found this website. It is such a relief to know that I might actually have an answer to all my problems. I can hardly wait for the doctor's office to open in the morning, I want this thing out right now and I want my life and ME back!

This medication is deadly! I was prescribed 100mg twice a day for 2 weeks for a supposed pelvic infection (don't know yet if that's actually what I have - personally I don't think so). I took it for 6 and a half days (equals 13 pills) and when I found this website and read people's experiences I immediately quit. I experienced some mild nausea the first few days but didn't relate it to the Doxycycline. Then I noticed I was having more bowel movements than normal (5 in one day). I thought maybe I was eating too much fiber as I had increased my intact recently. Then on the 6th evening everything fell apart. I was panicking for no apparent reason; it was just washing over me in waves. My heart was racing and felt like it was going to pound right out of my chest. I barely slept that night because every time I drifted off I startled awake with my heart racing. My body felt weird but I don't know how to explain it; my feet were tingly. The next morning I got hit with diarrhea (I'm usually constipated). Then that whole day I was sobbing on and off throughout the day. I felt like I had hit rock bottom. I wanted to die but was trying to fight these thoughts. I thought I was going to go crazy and start screaming. That was yesterday. I did not take my evening dose then and today have not taken my morning dose and will never take it again. I managed to sleep during the night although my whole body was super tense. Today I am doing better already but am very nauseous. My stomach & back hurt a bit but I am not sure if it is because of the Doxycycline or not, because I have been having a lot of health problems lately. Looking back on the last week, I can see the other side effects I was having which included being really cold (which is totally unlike me and it's summer), occasional ringing in my ears, burning in my abdomen, mild headaches, dry lips, trembling, my face feels hot...I can't remember everything. The panic & depression was the worst. Don't take anti-anxiety meds or antidepressants to combat this. I have been on them and they make things worse -- withdrawal can take months and is hell-like. Just get off the Doxycycline.

Sorry to post again, but NO ONE REPLIED TO MY POST!
I am 5 days post removal and need reassurance. Unlike everyone else, I have NOT felt better right away. I am just as tired (if not more), more irritable, and JUST GOT ACNE on my face and arms 2 days AFTER removal! I'm still dizzy and the brain fog is just as bad. Have not bled a drop at all.
I know everyone is different, but my removal experience has been completely different... don't feel better, no bleeding/clots, no immediate improvement. IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH ME??? Was it not the Mirena after all???

Hi all! Was just reading through all your experiences with the Mirena IUD, and let me just tell you, I am so happy I found this site! I had my Mirena IUD inserted about 6 weeks after my son was born (he will be turning one next month). I noticed my world literally falling apart within the first week of having it in. Of course when I talk to my Doc about what I've been going through, she says there is absolutely no link between my symptoms and Mirena. So then tell me why I am reading all your stories and it feels like I am reading my story back to myself? We can't all just be crazy here!!! I mean, some of my symptoms are so dead on with what others have shared, and the only thing in common is that we all have/had the Mirena IUD!! I honestly think people think that Doctors are Gods and that what they say is the word. Don't get me wrong, it takes a lot to be a doctor, and there are many many great ones out there, but in the end, you know your body more than anyone else!! So anyways, going back to the hell I have been dealing with: Within a week of having my Mirena put in, I got a MAJOR kidney infection. I have never had any problems with my kidneys whatsoever. The infection got so bad (I had no idea what it was) that I almost got Sepsis from it, which can be fatal. Since then, I have had 2 more kidney infections, as well as passed a kidney stone (which may or may not be related). Also, within that first week, I went from being a happy, active, energetic human being to being depressed, moody, panicked, weak, lethargic, and EXTREMELY fatigued all the time. I look in the mirror and don't even recognize myself anymore: I can't keep up with my son, the housework, cooking dinner and taking care of my family. I have watched my whole world literally fall apart. My partner and I split over a month ago, and I lost my job. I feel like the most worthless person on the face of the planet. I feel so horrible for my son because I just can't do the things he wants to do. All he wants to do is play, and I just can't do it. I can't be a normal mother to my child because I have no energy at all. I feel tired and weak CONSTANTLY, and just getting out of bed in the morning takes an act of God. I have to nap when my son does, because if I don't, I won't make it through the day. Even when I do get my naps in, they are not energizing naps, they are just to keep my head above water so that I can at least do the bare minimum to take care of my son. This is the complete opposite of the person I once was. I used to love life! I used to run and hike, and treat the world like it was my playground. Now all I do is sleep, and schedule my life around sleeping and just try to get by. The depression and anxiety attacks are new to me too. Some days I am in such fear of the anxiety attacks that I don't even leave the house. I have become a total hermit, and it's not fair to my son at all. I have also experienced pretty significant weight gain, and am still gaining. I have always been very fit, active and petite with an average weight of 110, and now here I am pushing 130! That just is not me!! With my small height of 5'3" it just doesn't look right. No wonder why my husband doesn't want me anymore!! I'm chubby, I sleep all day, I'm depressed, moody, and afraid to get out of the house!! I would do anything to have my life back. I would do anything to have my family back!!! That's why I ended up coming across this site in the first place. Like so many others, I have spent hundreds of dollars going to the doctor, and having all these expensive tests done just trying to figure out what the hell is wrong with me! You name it, and my doctor has tested for it, only to have everything come back looking fine. I can't even begin to tell you how extremely frustrating it is to sit there in my doctor's office feeling the way that I do, and knowing something is definitely not right, only to have her tell me, "You're fine. It's all in your head. Take this anti-depressant and you'll feel better." So, my initial intention was to go online and try to find some tips on how to increase my energy level, and suddenly all these links started popping up about Mirena and chronic fatigue. I started reading your stories on here and it was like a light suddenly went on in my head! And for the first time in almost a year, I felt the relief that I have been literally praying and praying for!! I have already called my doctor's office and made an appointment to have the damn thing taken out next week! I am actually excited for it! I keep thinking: What if this is it? What if this is the reason why I have been feeling so bad? What if they take it out and I become ME again? The me who used to camp and hike and fish and run and hold down a freakin job and play with my kids and take care of my family and have passions and hobbies?!!! What if??? Well, I am going to find out! I will post again and let you ladies know how it goes! If it does turn out that it was the Mirena that caused all this, you bet your booty I'm gonna be the world's biggest advocate on getting that thing pulled off the market!!!

It's nice to know that I'm not alone..
I got Mirena in November 08, and since then I've developed a plethora of unpleasant side-effects. Initially, I couldn't put them all together. As I'd had a fainting spell and some restless legs a few months prior to getting Mirena, I've been concerned that all of my symptoms were stemming from a nutritional deficiency like folate or b12 anemia. Nothing seemed to quite fit exactly right though, and I take vitamins regularly, so I was perplexed until last night. After googling "tingly feet" and "heartbeat" I stumbled onto one of these forums.
I have felt like a crazy person all of this year, and I am now quite certain that it's from Mirena. Feeling foolish that I didn't see this sooner.. but I guess I we perceive what we want to, and I was happy to have easy birth control.
I've NEVER had heart palpitations, this kind of foggy-headedness, anxiety like this, unexplainable nausea, tingling in my feet, or depression before. My dizziness and fatigue alone had me fearing for my health, and my extreme mood swings had me fearing for my life.
I'm getting this removed as soon as possible.
Clearly I could've done my pre-Mirena research better, but the pamphlet and pep-talk I was given did not mention everything that I've been going through. I'm a little pissed, to be honest.. but mainly relieved.
I think I'm going back to the Nuvaring.. I'd rather bleed than be a dysfunctional, ill, zombie-person.

I started taking YAZ in May 2008, after I told my doctor that I wanted to regulate my period (basically because I was going on scuba diving trip and didn't want to have my period) - I also told him that I was kind of b*tchy lately and maybe there was a pill that could help that as well. He prescribed YAZ - I went on my trip, no period (very light periods also)... In September 2008, I went to a cardiologist for heart palpitations, chest pains, shortness of breath (never thinking that YAZ had anything to do with it). After a huge array of tests (cat scans, blood clot scans, blood work, stress tests, etc...), he didn't find anything, but advised me to take 1 baby aspirin per day. About a month later, I started getting dizzy spells. I stopped taking the aspirin, figuring that's what was causing that (still never thinking about the YAZ - basically, because I had never had a problem with any other birth control pills). I took my last YAZ in January 2009. It seemed that my ill conditions slowly stopped.... Then, last week, in June 2009, I bought a pack from my almost expired prescription because I was going on another scuba trip and my period was scheduled to come when I would be away... I took a pill on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday (got my period, but it was very light), but by Sunday, I was so dizzy again, I could barely stand up. That was 3 days ago; still dizzy, but I'm writing off YAZ for good - it seems like that was cause of my health problems and it really isn't worth it just so I can plan a vacation around my period. I will be looking into alternatives to YAZ - I would advise if you have any of these symptoms, to do so as well.... Good luck! L....

Thank you all for sharing your experiences of the side affects of Advair. I am 46 years-old and have been on Advair for almost 2 years. I've experienced hair loss, joint stiffness. I find myself taking Tylenol for body and back pains every night, and Bayer aspirin in the mornings. My feet are so sore. I've also had decrease in libido.. at first I thought I was going through menopause. I did not have all these problems before Advair. Look what most of us had to sacrifice just to be able to take in deep breaths without feeling like someone is standing on our chest. I will search for other alternatives. My grandmother used to make tea from lobelia leaves to help my uncle who suffered with asthma.
The drug industry is a business. Once we start taking any pharmaceutical drugs... we open ourselves to other health problems due to the side affects of those drugs.

I have been on Loestrin 24 Fe for a year and a half. When I first started out I had terrible head aches and severe nausea. But I had regular periods always getting them on a Friday and ending on a Sunday. Never missed a period or had any spotting. The last few months I have struggled to get out of bed every day. Going to work is a chore. I can't stay up past 8:00 p.m. I feel very fatigued. I have had a few episodes where I am driving in my car and suddenly every thing goes blurry, I get very hot, dizzy, confused, can't remember where i'm at or where I'm going, I feel like my heart is going to beat out of my chest. I didn't know what was wrong with me I thought I was having a heart attack I never thought it could be from the birth control. I also can't stop eating. I am never full. I haven't gained any wait but lately my stomach is so bloated. I get very shaky when I haven't eaten. I scheduled a doctors appointment because I thought i had a thyroid problem or diabetes but after reading all of these comments I now think my health problems have a lot to do with the loestrin . If my doctor doesn't find anything wrong with me than I am going to stop using loestrin. I can't live like this anymore. It is affecting my relationship and quality of life. Whats the purpose of being on birth control to have sex if you never feel well enough to do anything ...

I just began using Yaz about 4 months ago and I have had the weirdest thing happen. I have massive headaches (never had them before) and this weird pain in me face (right about my right cheekbone) At first I thought it was a sinus infection.. Major pressure and headaches are easy to diagnose. Then when it didn't go away I got scared. An emergency room visit and a neurology appointment later (everything is "normal") I have decided it HAS to be the Yaz. I have also been having weird ear "fullness" Out of nowhere my ears will just pop like i'm going up a mountain...The took me off that and put me on Yasmin. Isn't it the Same pill? Anyway.. has anyone experienced similar symptoms? If so, how long did it take to go away? Thanks!!

I have been on NuvaRing for 2 years. At first I thought it was wonderful. But now two years later I am connecting all my health problems back to when i started taking this BC. For two years I have had horrible nausea and digestive problems and weight gain.I also have had horrible mood swings and emotional instability. And worstly I have had horrible sinus problems. In fact I had sinus surgery which did not help. I also got a therapist and started considering seeing a doctor about the digestive problems. But after some research and connected the dots on the time frame of all these sudden health problems.... I am pretty sure it is the BC. I stopped taking it yesterday. I hope I go back to my healthy self from2 yrs ago. Please do not ignore side effects of drugs.

I was prescribed this as an inexpensive option to treat a long-term sinus infection in March 2008. I had no prior history of allergic reactions or prior health problems. After 3 days (6 doses) my whole body was in throbbing pain, I felt like my skin was on fire, and I was seeing spots, and had difficulty breathing. I initially had NO RASH or visible/external signs while taking the medication. I immediately stopped taking the medication and saw my doctor, but symptoms persisted for a week. My doctor prescribed prednisone, and had to up the dosage two weeks later when a rash formed over my torso and legs and persisted for 2 months.
