I was put on Yaz because of my severe PMS. After nine days I started getting very strong symptoms, many the very symptoms I started taking Yaz for in the first place. It was too early in the cycle to be the "regular" PMS. Many of the symptoms I listed below I get regularly but not as strongly, and they have not been remotely this bad for years. I stopped taking Yaz after freaking out for 48 hours. I was told to stay on them for at least 3 months, as a trial, and I was really motivated because I really suffer from my PMS - almost every month I feel like I get into a depression - but there is no chance in the world I will continue taking that pill.
Tiredness
Sudden feelings of worthlessness
Sudden feelings of intense anger
Sudden feelings of anxiety
Sudden feelings of deep sadness
Tension head aches
Crying uncontrollably and for no obvious reason
Tension in jaws/clenching of teeth
Tension in shoulder/neck area
Feeling unable to cope with work
Feeling unable to communicate with anyone
Shortness of breath
Not able to sleep (though tired)
Very strong heart beat
Numbness in skin
Much lower energy
Eating extreme amounts of chocolate/cookies

Yasmin is most definitely the pill from hell! I was originally on Microgynon from the age of 17 until I was about 20/21 which was when I changed to Yasmin. I didn't notice at the time but I had the usual mood swings which come with any contraceptive, I got diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and I was suffering with anxiety and palpitations for no reason. I stopped taking Yasmin in 2007 to give my body a break but had problems with other forms of contraception so I gave in and went back on the pill after a few months, this was when the worst side effects came! Depression, anxiety, palpitations, racing heart beat, breathlessness, migraines, crazy mood swings and I’m so aggressive with it too! My aggression scares me sometimes it’s that bad!  The worst side effect has to be my hair loss! It upsets me so much! My GP but it down to low Iron and Pernicious Anaemia a year ago which I am now being treated for and my hair hasn’t got any better! I went back to my GP at the end of my tether and he did more tests including sex hormone tests which show some of my hormone levels through the roof and others struggling to get into the normal range. I had no idea this was what Yasmin did to your body! I have an appointment to see my GP tomorrow to discuss these results! Hopefully he will have some answers!

I was put on 20 mg twice a day to combat my Crohn's Disease. A few days in, I began having trouble sleeping because of a heart beat that was making my whole torso and head throb. Exactly one week in, I woke up with a bad headache and nausea. I got out of bed and my heart started racing. I couldn't take my pulse at the time, but my estimate is about 150 beats/minute. The doctor accelerated my tapering in response to this episode. Right now I am taking 30 mg a day, but I still experience a heart rate in the 130's and chest pain several times a day unrelated to physical activity. I will say, however, that all the symptoms of my Crohn's Disease have really been diminished by this drug, and so far I am willing to accept these side effects.

Does anyone here ever had any tingling issues? I had total thyroidectomy in Feb. 2009. Felt good the first month or two and have gone down from there! Some days are good, some are bad. Never know from day to day how Im going to feel! I started out for about a month and a 1/2 on 125 levothyroxin.....then my doc lowered it to 100.......as of July 14th, Im now taking .88. The tingling Im getting is all over my body, different places, here and there. Ive had some heart rate issues for a couple of months now too and finally had my regular doc send to me see a heart doctor.
Thought maybe the tingling could be from low calcium.....it was normal, CBC was normal, ECHO was normal.....waiting on the holter test results right now. The heart doc gave me a prescription for Toprol. I told him I wasn't going to take it cuz sometimes my heart feels like its barely beating and Im afraid it will make it worse. Im glad I didn't get it! Ive read of too many side effects.
Palpitations, kinda fast heart beat with pounding.....sometimes it feels likes its barely beating! Most of this occurs when first laying down......every now and then while sitting, etc. I do not exercise.....and should but just don't find the time. I switched jobs around the time I found out I had several nodes on each side of my thyroid. I was getting tired a lot and just thought i worked too much. I went from a physical job to a sit down, 12 hour, graveyard shift. Since the surgery, Ive felt it more. Im tired of feeling like crap all the time......I was already going thru some perimenopause stuff before all of this! Before I ever found out about my thyroid, I did have real light pounding of heart when laying down and tingling every blue moon, but very mild as well.
Now with no thyroid.......and medicines with all the side effects......IM GOING NUTS!!! Right now the moodiness and tingling are whats bothering me the most. Some days Im really tired, others Im ok. My body gets hot off and on, no fever. The past 3 days my calves, feet, and ankles have started to swell........never before! Plus I get some throbs and pains in my legs and arms and under my arms here and there. I probably need a new doc and I change of medicine......but Im afraid.
For one, Ive decided to go back to a physical job........and hopefully it wont screw with my heart rate even more. Ive read up on tingling........Im guessing maybe its from all the damn stress since my calcium was normal. Does anyone here have any suggestions?????

I have been taking 12.5 mg of metoprolol every night since December. I had no side effects whatsoever until here recently. One night I started getting heart palpitations and it lasted for 5 nights before I decided to try lowering my dosage. After I lowered it to 1/4 of a 25 mg pill, my palpitations at night got better, but I recently had a dizzy episode where my heart was beating at over 100 bpm. I have talked to my doctor and they are going to hook me up to a holtometer for a day on the 31st, but I don't want to wait that long since my heart beat has been increasing over the days on 1/4 a pill and half a pill makes me have palpitations at night. So I was wondering, if my doctor has me change medication, does anyone here know about any good meds that do the same thing as metoprolol?

Taking Prednisone 20+20 a day . One morning my heart beat and pulse shot to 180/Min and became irregular. Immediately went to urgent care. B.P was checked to be 190 (Systolic) / 110(diastolic) .
Slowly the Pulse and B.P came down to normal. Reduce the dose to 10+10 Prednisone a day voluntarily. But Doctor asked to go back to 20+10.
After taking 20+10 for 5 days , today on 6th day again I got the attack of irregular high heart beat and high B.P.

Took a tranquilizer and in an hour the heart rate and B.P slowly came back to normal

I am in my 2nd pack of Loestrin 24 FE and was put on them due to my extremely heavy bleeding. I am 39 years old and am not using this for birth control just period control. The first month went great, bled for 3 days and then stopped. My 2nd pack is going horrible. My legs are always cramping and hurting. In general I feel like I have the flu. I started my period after taking the second pack for 1 week and now at week three i am still bleeding and cramping. I am due to start taking the brown pills in three days and do not know if i am going to take them or skip them and go straight into the white pills again or just quit them all together. I do not feel that bleeding like this all the time is of any help. How many of you have experienced bleeding like this and continue the pill to see it quit? Also, I do not always take the pill at the same time, it sometimes varies by an hour or so.

I had mine removed less than a week ago after using it for almost 2.5 years. Like most, I did my research post insertion (I'm finishing up my PhD and have always been very 'body aware') and thought I knew what I was getting into. I've had 2 children (now 11 and 13) so I'm familiar with the pregnant feeling.
My life has been pretty turbulent for the last 3 years (grad school, divorce, cross-country move, intense new romance) and I blamed my symptoms on stress. The last 9 months, however, have been relatively calm. With that background, here's the low down:
Long term symptoms (since within a few months of insertion): Mood swings (very up to very down), Depression (with poor response to treatment), Bloating, Bleeding (sometimes almost all month...mellowed after 1 year), Cramping, Hair loss, Vision effects, Mental fog (pregnancy brain), Weight gain (20 lbs in 2.5 years), Hip pain
More recent symptoms that finally tipped me off: Acceleration of mood swings and brain fog, Lethargy, Acceleration of wt gain (despite consistent workouts and diet), Spike in blood pressure (feeling heart beat in finger tips...like when I was pregnant...verified by nurse at removal appointment. Mirena documentation says remove it if you get a spike in BP), Panic attacks (totally irrational with no external explanation, lasted for days), Suicidal thoughts (SO not like me).
In just in the few days since removal, my mental clarity has improved immensely. Nothing like being foggy when trying to write a dissertation! My energy level is way up. While I've been working out regularly for a few months with continued wt gain, I can feel it coming off now, already. My moods are much, much better. Little things have been throwing me way off track for a long time. I had a couple emotional knocks last night that just rolled right off (no gruesome details, just know that a week ago I'd have been in a puddle of tears). My blood pressure is down and food cravings are gone. Hips feel much better.
Doc at Planned Parenthood said that she has seen a few women in her clinic who have had problems and wanted the Mirena removed (cost me $94). She thinks it might be the beginning of the wave. I had no idea that the hormones in the device could be causing so much trouble. Over the last year, especially, I have adjusted my whole life and lifestyle to stabilize my moods (and maintain a relationship with my very patient partner), not linking them to all the other symptoms. Ugh. I am relieved and angry at the same time. The difference, pre and post, is night and day.
FYI, I had a few hot flashes the day after removal, along with a mild headache for a few days. I was on my (light) period when I had it taken out and it's still tapering off. Moods were pretty rough the first afternoon post-removal (another suicidal rant in my journal) but consistently good since then.
I'm going to circulate a cautionary message with my girlfriends and grad student peers. I sure would have liked to have known long ago what was causing me so much trouble.

First of all, a big thanks to all of you who have shared your experiences. I am a biochemist, with a background in pharmaceutical research...I chose the Mirena IUD after careful consideration of it's active ingredient, Levonorgestrel. The side effect profile seemed pretty acceptable...until I started to experience nearly ALL of them...I am 33 years old and had the Mirena IUD placed in October of 2008 after the birth of my second child in June of 2008. The initial reaction was to be expected...cramping, a little spotting etc...nothing to be alarmed about. I still have yet to have a period (which I really don't miss so no problem there) I never gave a second thought to this until now...for the past month or so (coinciding with the weening process, since I have been nursing the entire time, I believe the side effects were not as noticeable) I have been experiencing the following (that may or may not be related to Mirena as my OBGYN has so adamantly pointed out, but after reviewing your posts I'm willing to bet they're connected) and are in order of occurrence: Major, but temporary, hair loss after 2 months or so; Major respiratory infection lingering over a month with difficulty breathing, tightness and pain in the chest at around 6 mos; And in the past month, several instances of motion-like sickness/ nausea, dizziness, blurred vision, major impatience/ mood swings, loss of appetite (pregnancy-like symptoms...yep, I was thinking man I'd be pretty pissed if I was that 0.01% pregnant statistic), and as of this past weekend, my first aurora migraine with tunnel vision and serious nausea and vomiting, to the point where I went to Urgent Care...who referred me to the ER...who wants to perform a battery of tests including a head CT. I have an appointment with a trusted GP tomorrow to discuss possible root causes...but it is to coincidental that so many women are experiencing these same symptoms! I am certainly leaning towards having this removed. CAN THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE HAD THIS REMOVED PLEASE RESPOND IF YOUR SYMPTOMS SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVED OR WERE RESOLVED!!! THANK YOU!
These side effects seem to go well beyond a 5% rate of incidence according to all of you who have reported. I will investigate further and keep everyone posted. As someone who is highly experienced in the pharmaceutical industry, you bet your a$$ I'm going to get to the bottom of this! Good luck ladies!

I am a 56 year old female & have been on toprol for 7 or 8 years. I was a small business owner & under a lot of stress. I had couple of times where my heart would race & pound & I felt really strange. I went to the ER where they of course checked my blood pressure. It was a little high, but I was stressed out! After the second time this happened they put me on 50mg of toprol. I have since weaned myself down to 25 mg. I think I was having a panic attack, which I had never had before. I regret the day I ever started taking this poison. I have had such shortness of breath that I can hardly walk to my mailbox & back. I feel like I can never get enough air in my lungs. I feel a tightness in my chest all the time, sometimes my heart feels like it is beating abnormally. I am always aware of my heart beat which I never was before this med. I have gained about 20 to 30 lbs, which is very hard to lose when you feel like you are dying if you exercise. I have pain in my left shoulder, which I don't know if it is from the med or not. I do not sleep well at night & am so tired all the time it is hard to get through the day. I just overall feel like crap! It seems doctors are no help they just want to try you on other meds, I have tried that too. They are all poison I felt even worse on some of the others. I don't want to go through the rest of my life like this. Has anyone successfully gotten off this stuff? I would love to hear from you. Thanks, K. L.

My story about the Mirena started from 2002. I had my seconnd Mirena placed 2 years ago. Having them put in and taken out are extremely painful you need way more then advil I had to take painkillers given to me by my doctor. I never knew about all the side effects I was never told and now know that everything that has happened to me is because of the mirena thanks to your blogs and my doctor. The first problem was serious stomach issues so bad that they had to remove my galbladder. Well that didn't work so I have had 2 upper g-i's and 5 colonoscopies the last one they found colitis which they could not explain why I had it. I still have stomach issues so bad that I run to the bathroom after eating. With all that being said you think I would lose weight well no I have gained 15 pounds since the last one was placed. My heart I have had an extremely fast heart beat since having the mirena so fast that I have passed out numerous times; the cardiologist said its definitely hormonal but would never tell it was from the mirena. I went through 22 different tests for my heart, evern wore a monitor for an entire month. Sex drive is not there, I never am in the mood. Exhausted I am constantly tired I have to fight laying in bed, but at night I can not fall asleep even on prescribed pills only get about 4 hours of sleep; before the mirena I could sleep 10 hours with no problem. Last but not least is the headaches and neck pain they have been so bad I have had 5 nerve blocks since having the mirena. I have gone into the hospital 3 times since 2002 for severe headaches which they have run every test known to man on me and can not tell me what I have. I have had to recieve iv therapy for the migraines that you can only receive in the hospital with a nurse watching you for 48 hours since you have to receive 3 doses of it. I could not walk, talk, or even look at light. My stays at the hospital have ranged from 3 to 7 days. I have gone to specialist after specialist and no one would tell me the truth or knew what to tell me. Finally 3 weeks ago I went to the neurologist and he told me straight out after looking over my medical history and speaking with me that without a doubt it was from the Mirena. After 7 years,11 specialists, my galbladder being removed, numerous hospital visits, and endless procedures I finally know the truth. I hope people read my story and think twice about using mirena; you could end up like me. I am only 28 years old, married with twin daughters. I have had to live like this for 7 years; I will never get that time back but once I have this removed I know I will have my life back.

This website had made me sane!!! I have recently become a crazy woman searching side effects of birth control like it was my job, it has taken up my entire head!.. I started nuvaring four months ago (first form of birth control ever) to help control my horrible pms and very irregular period, and it helped that out, HOWEVER, I have recently decided I would prefer the pms over these awful, AWFUL symptoms. Although little spurts occurred here and there, this month is the absolute worst. I have managed to gain 12 lbs in under a month ...(keep in mind I am a work-out freak and have made sure to burn as many calories as I take in each day simply because I just can't stop gaining the weight!) I don't fit into any of my clothes and I just do not like the way I look. It is as if my body has just gotten wider and larger. I used to love my body and now I cant stand looking in the mirror everyday. My eating habits are awful....I try to starve myself for periods of time because I simply cannot help myself when I enter the kitchen. I feel like a bulimic girl, without the puking afterward. My binges are DISGUSTING, I'm actually ashamed. The worst symptom of all, though, are the mood swings. I cry at the drop of a hat every single night, I'm 20 years old away at college, and last night I cried because all I wanted was my "mommy." That's embarrassing. Not to mention my boyfriend thinks I am absolutely nuts because I have "changed." When you tell a severely hormonal woman she has "changed" you better expect a shoe or the nearest object to fly at you, which is exactly what I did. I CAN'T HELP IT! I also have been having negative thoughts about life as a whole lately and have even entered the realm of slight suicidal thoughts, or at least thinking my life was worthless. I've been through too much with my cycle to stop it now (even though I feel like ripping this thing out ASAP) and have 2 weeks left before I can take it out FOR GOOD! If anyone has any feedback they want to share to keep me sane through these last 2 weeks PLEASE PLEASE share! Also, does anybody know how long it will take for me to get my life back?! =(

I took aciphex for 16 months, ran out of prescription Thursday, and haven't felt this good for long time. I thought my weight gain and constant headache was
due to getting older. I had such a energy burst today that makes me believe it was Aciphex that made me the couch potato day and night. tiredness was brutal and when I was at NY last week I could not go up to stairs at Subway without having to stop and get my breathing in order not to mention being able to hear your own heart beat is little scary. Also I had severe leg pains on both sides-kind of rotating cramps and pinching, especially on my hamstrings.

Thanx for this site. I took Doxy for 3 days (100mg twice a day) and i woke up with a terrible headache on my right forehead. I took ibuprofen then my left hand started shaking and my heart was beating so fast. I ended up calling 911 thinking something was more serious with me but by the time the paramedics came my pulse and heart beat were normal. Almost 48 hours later i still had the headache and now was having shortness of breath, feeling tired, back ache, panic attack and light headedness. I called my DR and she said i probably just needed some rest. No mention of some possible side effect to doxy so i used my initiative and googled this stupid doxy drug..Wow the results were very helpful and now i know its the doxy doing this to me for sure. I stopped taking it right away which is after only 3 days after but my body hasn't gone back to normal. No more shortness of breath but still have back ache, Oh and for some reason i cant sleep..its 5 am right now and am on my computer..so i think i'll add insomnia to the list of side effects..NEVER AGAIN WILL I TAKE DOXY

I have been on this medication for 3 months now. I am a 28 year old male, 6'2", weigh 211lbs, and in overall good health. My blood pressure average is 144/72 without the medication, but on the medication it seems to stay around 136/66. It took about one week for the blood pressure medicine to start working and when it did I felt very tired (which is normal). Now, in my third month I have started to notice new symptoms like severe headache in the right front lobe, severe tiredness, cold fingers and toes (in warm conditions), severe lower back pain, mood swings, blurred vision in the right eye (same location as headache), and a occasional twitch in my right thumb (probably not related to the medicine). When I first started this medication I did read all of these post and figured that everyone was crazy and/or nuts, but know I am thinking that I would rather stop the medication
and start seeking out for a better medication.. I know medicine has side effects but damn!!! Anyone else have cold fingers and toes while they have been on the medication..thanks

I am so thankful for this site. I thought maybe it was just me. For one, I am allergic to Sulfa. My doctor knows this, as does my pharmacy. Still, they give me Lisinopril with Hydrochlorothiazide which you should NOT take if you have a sulfa allergy. From day one, I started with anxiety, agitation, nausea and what felt like a racing heart - though my pulse was normal. Day three I called the doctor and they said this was normal as my body "adjusted" to the medication. It has been over two weeks and the same thing keeps happening. I tried taking the meds at night to hopefully sleep through the side effects but no - it just kept me awake. I put another call in today and have yet to receive a return call from my doctor. I hope the doctor calls me and NOT the front desk girl because I have a lot of questions and concerns. Other symptoms I have been experiencing since I started Lisinopril are sever muscle cramping last for over 24 hours, dizziness, heavy chest/racing heart beat, restlessness and less frequent urination. For a 37 yo female who has to "potty" constantly, even throughout the night, going once in an 8+ hour period is not normal! The worst side effect though is definitely the anger and agitation. I feel like I am going to burst out of my skin or die banging my head against the wall. Last night I tossed and turned for 2 hours in agitation. I thought I would surely have a heart attack from the stress. Oh yeah my BP has NOT dropped at all (tho it fluctuates on or off the meds) on the 20 mg dose. Go figure.

I am 39 years old. I have been taking Lisinopril for nine months now, for my High BP. For the first 7 months I had not really had any annoying side-effects other than a mild dry cough. But for about the last 2 months I am having a really odd sensation in my heart. It seems like a flutter and it goes across my upper chest area and into my throat. At times they are mild and other times, during a lot of moving around, I have more aggressive sensations. One night while in bed. My wife got her stethoscope out, (she has a medical background) and listened to my heart. She told me not to tell her when I get the sensation, but to let her try and determine when I have the feeling. this nailed it as soon as I had one. She said that it seems that my heart if pumping too quickly. Meaning that I may have a Premature Ventricular Contraction. This has really scared me. I am scheduled to see my Doctor tomorrow. In my last visit which was about 3 weeks ago, I had brought this up to him. He didn't really try to hear my heart on his own. He just listened to what me and wife were explaining about the sensation. I had hurt my leg about the same time this started happening, and I was taking large amounts of Ibuprofen. So he partly chalked up to Ibuprofen and maybe a drug interaction and stated that I lay off the Ibu and see if they go away in 2 weeks. And if not, he wants to do a Holter Monitor on me to see what may be happening. Well they haven't stopped! I am thinking maybe I should ask for a different BP med. I still want to do the Holter to make sure, but I think it may be time for a change. I have only heard of this fluttering feeling happening to one other person. Has anyone else out there had this same scary sensation? if so please let me know what you have done or have found out. Thank you!

I was diagnosed with adult allergic asthma one year ago at 38 years old. I started having problems breathing ONLY AT NIGHT on occasion and palpitations. Had a physical and ekg, totally normal. Went to allergist and they said I have alot of allergies and diagnosed me with the asthma. Funny thing, weeks before I biked 20 miles, hiked 12 miles, canoed 3 miles, played golf in a 3 day span and no problems. Since they told me this and started me on advair 250/50 I haven't been able to jog more than 2 miles or bike more than 8 to 10. Its very strange indeed, I have gotten more paranoid feelings when just get a little out of breath, and sometimes cant keep still in a car or sitting down. I cut back on sugar, sodium and started exercising a little every day, only 15 minutes and felt better. But came down with a cold recently and back to square one. I am trying to take the advair only ONCE a day instead of twice and almost feel withdrawal symptoms like shakiness, paranoia, irritability. I do have higher blood pressure than I should. Does anyone have any idea about this? I am really confused! Thanks... J

I had the mirena put in in june after my third child. I did feel a bit dizzy when it was first put in but did not cramp at all. I was still spoting then from giving birth, so it just continued for about 3 more weeks the stopped altogether. I have not had a period since, woooooooohooooooooooo!!!!!!!! I don't feel bad about that at all. I did have a day when I woke up cramping and thought I was going to start but never did. My doctors nurse told me everything I needed to know about the mirena long before i had it put in. I actually made the appointment to discuss it with her. Everyone should have been smart enough to ask questions before it was done, not the day it is. You cant think straight when someone is getting ready to put a device in you. I have to say I love my mirena and would not trade it for a pill, a shot, or any other birth control method. Ladies know your gyn very well before trusting them. I think most of you just think it is your doctors fault. It is not it is yours for not researching it more. And come on what women is not moody a day in her life, not many. How many headaches did you get before the mirena? How were your sinuses before mirena? Probably the same. Some womens health simply changes after having a baby. I also advise against you removing these mirenas yourselves. It is not smart, you could get a bad infection from not being in a sterile environment.

I was prescribed this Levaquin antibiotic for 7 days duration. Day one I started feeling nausea, fagtige, my brain just thinking weird stuff. I thought it was my sickness. Day two my condition was took a deeper turn: I couldn't sleep, I was so hot (inside my body) took off my cloth ran around the house like a crazy person, even thought it was cold in the winter. I started thinking of suicidal, depression. my heart beat was pumping so fast, I tried to calm my self down by listen classical music, that didn't help either....I went to emergency room, doctor prescribed me a different antibiotic...that medication still affect me today...I still keep the bottle to remind myself of that medication...long story short..

My wife has sinus infection. Her doctor prescribed Levaquin. She took one last night (08/12/08), she couldn't sleep, headache, nausea...etc. I warned her many times before about this medication, but I didn't realized she taken the medication or bought this medication...

THIS IS A SERIOUS. LEVAQUIN IS A BAD MEDICATION. STOP USING THIS LEVAQUIN NOW. we need to organize a group for FDA to prohibit this medication for good. Even class action sUit to stop the company from manufacturing this medication. If anyone knows how and where to go about these, please let me know. This is for real, our health is more important. Thank you !!

I went to this web site because I want to help my wife. She's been on Jolessa for 8 weeks now. As of this week, her heart has been "fluttering" for lack of a better word. She went to the ER room and they said basically that nothing's wrong with her but she is experiencing premature ventricular contractions (PVC's) which are not dangerous (according to the doctors). She asked the doc's if she should stop taking Jolessa and of course they said,"no."

We're wondering if anyone else is experiencing this feeling with this junk? My wife is 38 years old, healthy, never had heart problems or disorders. As of the past few weeks though, she's been feeling down in the dumps, sluggish and has a slight mode change.

If anyone is experiencing a change in heart rhythm, since taking Jolessa, please post it here. Thank you.

After being diagnosed with a UTI, I was put on sulfamethoxazole. The first day on the medication seemed to be fine but at about the 2nd-3rd day, I was not feeling like myself. I was watching some TV and I all of a sudden couldn't see anything. I got very hot, my heart beat was super-fast and then I completely blacked out. I also had continuous "spotting" while taking this pill, which never happens to me. I continued to feel out of sorts throughout the remainder of the prescription and I have the same symptoms from the UTI that I started with. This "drug" did nothing for me beside throwing my equilibrium off balance. I wouldn't recommend it to an enemy, let alone someone who needed medical help.
