I have been on Yasmin for 5 yrs now and was diagnosed with a heart condition at 16 yrs old and dealt with it for 2 years, I started have really bad cramps and going 2-3 months with no period and 2 months of straight bleeding! I came off of Yasmin (Yaz) 6 months ago and since then have come off my heart medication and have had no other problems with my heart. I changed from Yasmin to Ortho Tri Cyclin and have experienced severe cramping heavy bleeding and horrible low back pain! My dr just proscribed me Loestrin, I'm gonna try it at least anything can be better than having a period for 2 months straight and severe pain!! Anybody had problems like mine on OTC?

I have been having recurring UTIs and I had taken Cipro which did not clear up the first infection. My doctor prescribed Bactrim and wanted me on it for two weeks.

During the first week, I would feel dizzy for 2-3 hours after taking a dose. I had body aches as well, but thought I was getting the flu.

At the beginning of the second week, I broke out in hives. I have very sensitive skin and figured I had touched something that irritated my skin. I took benadryl and the symptoms went away.

The next day I broke out again, this time worse, and I noticed I had hives all over my body including on my feet and on my head- (which alarmed me, because I now realized it was coming from something inside). I thought it was something I ate. I took benadryl when I got home from work and they went away.

The day after that, I broke out again, and a co-worker mentioned that she had an allergic reaction from Bactrim and I should check online. Her reaction was dizziness and feeling sick to her stomach, but I looked anyway. When I saw that hives a side effect I called my doctor. They told me to stop taking the Bactrim and that I was allergic to it.

It will be a week tomorrow that I stopped taking Bactrim, and I still have hives everywhere. Last night, my entire back was covered with a red sunburn-looking rash with long snake-like hives. My boyfriend says the hives look like worms under my skin.

I would suggest to anyone that has any kind of reaction (dizziness, headache, body ache, rash, hives, etc.) to call their doctor ASAP. I should have know to call when they were making me dizzy in the first week, but sometimes you don't realize what is going on until you have severe symptoms. Doctors should tell people about the possible side effects when they prescribe this stuff.

I began taking lisinopril 8 years ago(age 26) when diagnosed with aortic insufficiency. I was in excellent health physically and mentally at the time and my heart condition was and still is very minimal. This drug has literally broken down my body and I have developed chronic conditions. The minor side effects were the fatigue, dizziness, and lethargic feeling. As time went on I developed stomach issues, insomnia, skin conditions, memory loss, mood imbalance, and low platelet production. I never questioned or linked any of this with something that was considered by doctors a safe drug. After much confusion and weariness it literally dawned on me! I stopped the drug with agreement from my cardiologist, and for the first time in many, many years I am coming back to life. As the days go by and the aftermath of this drug leave my system for good, I amazed as each of my health problems disappears. I am sleeping the whole night, thinking more lucidly, and enjoying a calm stomach. I take my health seriously and I sincerely advise anyone to avoid the slow death of lisinopril.

I started taking Levaquin 500mg on Jan. 28,2009 after having it prescribed fby my cardiologist for a lung infection, after he conducted blood, urine and heart ecosonogram tests over the three previous days. I had an infection, everything else was fine. I am 55 and have mitral valve prolapse and have been treated 20 years ago for atrial fibrillation, hence my primary care doctor is a cardiologist. Willingly starting the treatment of one tablet a day, I noticed insomnia the first and subsequent nights, tiredness and probably depression as my friend and wife said I was acting a bit "needy" and anxiety. My family commented on my anxiety as did my friend who I only email and phone. My infection noticeably improved so I was feeling better and marked it up to having been sick, until the 4th day when I starting having shortness of breath and I noticed a feeling I knew well but had not experienced in 20 years, my heart area hurt in a mild way and I felt flutters, just enough that I pulled the medical paper for the Levaquin and read the side effects bar. Low and behold all my side effects were listed. "Rare but could happen in patients predisposed to heart problems" On Monday Feb 2nd I called the doctor with my concerns but he assured me that is was not the Levaquin but he made me an appointment to check things out. So one week into the 10 day course of treatment I had another checkup only to find an erratic heart beat but on the slow side not the pounding which is normally associated with this problem. So now my doctor "who is a friend" so I am not a number, wants me to start on an anticoagulant"Coumadin" to ease the pumping in my heart and then further exams and medication for "life" for my fibrillation! Problem now is I have one more pill of the Levaquin of the 10 pill series which I "should take in 10 minutes ( I just found this site)! I have decided not to take any more test or medication of any kind until I feel this Levaquin is completely out of my body. Does anyone have any ideas how long that could be? P.S. My heart still feels like it did earlier in the week!

My daughter had her first Gardasil shot in June. She started to have severe pain on her right side. Doctor diagnosed bladder infection. After 3 days of antibiotics ended up in emergency room due to severe pain in her right side. They did a ct scan and found a tennis ball sized cyst on her ovary. They thought her pain was from the cyst so she ended up having surgery to remove it. While they were in there they found endometriosis. So now we are working on a treatment plan. They gave her a shot of Depo Provera. She got her period while on vacation and the pain was so severe that she ended up in the hospital again. Her pain is being caused by the endo and is so severe it is debilitating. She had regular pain before with her periods, never anything like this. Another problem she is having is severe pain on both of her hip bones. My daughter was a normal, healthy teenager before this now they want to suppress her periods until she is ready to have children. I can't help but think this is due to the Gardasil.

I am 36 and take 100 mg of generic Toprol a day. I was put on it due to many ( I mean 30 to 40) palps a day. I had been on Atenolol for about 5 years and the doctors told me it had simply quit working. I had an echo and a 24 hour holtor monitor and both came back negative, yet I felt like I was dying daily. My palps have diminished with the medicine, with a change in diet and running 5 or 6 days a week for about 3 miles. Caffeine and alcholol have almost been excluded. I do have cold hands and feet and have had much trouble losing weight. Stomach cramps and an upper right side cramps have been an issue. After reading your posts I think we need to get off this stuff

three months after getting Mirena Iud I started getting heart palpitations, I had a ECG and a Holter Moniter, I mentioned it Mirena too my family doctorr and he said he thought about it as being the cause, then said no he didn't think so Instead he sent me too a Heart Specialist, only for them too tell me they didn't think I had a heart condition!!! Go on!!!! I told my family doctor and the Specialist that I had a Mirena IUD and did they think that it may be causing me too have these palpitations? Both said NO... I have suffered and had dizzy spells, symptoms of morning sickness, and haven't been able to feel rested since getting it... Today I made an appointment to get it removed. I like what is has done for me otherwise, but I don't feel like the palpations are a worthy side effect.

Hi all, I was on Yasmin for close to two years until I had heart palpitations that prompted me to get off of it immediately. I also dealt with many side effects mentioned in other posts, but my heart condition was a scary wake-up call. I am still dealing with the heart palps after being off of it for over a month.

This website may not have saved my life, but it has certainly saved my sanity. Beginning in May 2007 I was prescribed Toprol XL for a supposed heart condition. I was instructed to begin with 50 mg per day and go to 100 mg per day after 10 days. Since I already had the 50 mg tablets, I simply started taking 2 of them together when I raised the dosage. On July 25 I ran out of the 50 mg tabs and filled a prescription for 100 mg tabs. Immediately upon starting the 100 mg tabs I began experiencing side effects which increased in severity daily. By Monday July 30 I was convinced I was losing my mind. Then I discovered this website, and read that many other people had suffered in the same way. What I have trouble grasping is why the same dosage had different effects. I tolerated the 100 mg/day dose just fine when taking 2 50 mg tabs, but the 100 mg was dreadful. I've checked the pills, and both the 50 mg and 100 mg are Astra-Zeneca products, not generic. The markings, shape and size are consistent with 100 mg tabs, so I haven't been inadvertently given an overdose. I immediately backed off the dosage, and am gradually going to reduce and stop the medication. I urge anyone who is having these problems not to stop at reporting them here, but also to contact Astra-Zeneca at www.astrazeneca.com, and to report them to the FDA's Medwatch website, www.fda.gov/medwatch. It may seem fruitless to contact Astra Zeneca, but they need to be made aware of these problems.

UPDATE: Today is the second day that I haven't taken Singulair and I feel 100% better. I am no longer experiencing the panic attacks, hallucinations, shortness of breath, ear ringing, leg cramps, etc. I went to the doctor on the 23rd and he was reluctant to think that any of this was caused by taking Singulair. I am now convinced that it was, since I haven't felt any of the symptoms I was having for the last few months. I am going to a cardiologist on Aug 1st and will have to wear a heart monitor to "rule out" a heart condition. I also have to get my ears checked because my doctor thinks this could be an inner ear problem. I will go through with all of these check-ups just to make sure that I don't have any underlying medical issues. Seeing how quickly my symptoms have stopped after going off of Singulair makes me totally convinced that this is what was causing this in the first place. I am greatful that I found this site and read all of the comments from people having similar symptoms!

I wanted to give an update. I'm the 31 year old cancer survivor who posted yesterday about my concerns with Toprol XL and some side-effects I was feeling. After a trip to the doctor, everything was made clear to me.

After having some bloodwork done and a chest x-ray, we determined that I, in fact, have congenital heart failure. This is when the heart is unable to pump blood fast enough to the body's organs. The result is weight gain due to fluid retention, shortness of breath, and especially trouble breathing when lying down. So, I imagine, the body's natural remedy to this is to speed up the rate in which the heart pumps, to compensate and get the needed blood to the body. That would explain my elevated heart rate.

Toprol XL did exactly what it was supposed to do: lower my heart rate. But, in my case (and, as it seems to me, might also be the case for many of the people posting here), that was not the right solution for me. Slowing the heart rate caused the natural side-effects of congenital heart failure to emerge. So, what I thought were side-effects of Toprol XL were in fact simply the my body's "normal" state, being someone with this heart condition.

As of today, I have stopped taking the Toprol XL and have been placed on a few new medications in its place. I have been correctly diagnosed now, and I look forward to feeling better soon.

I have been on toprol 200mg daily for over 5 yrs. I have a hypertropic cardiomyopathy heart condition and it has been my wonder drug. Prior to toprol I was on atnenol (spelling??) and it really made me tired.
At first biggest side effects was the wild and colorful dreams. I'm talking was that real or a dream. Over time the dreams became less and less frequent and intense.
Overall the weight gain has not been a big factor but I don't seem to have the high energy levels I used to have.
I'm not sure if it is the drug or not, but I have acquired a wicked sweet tooth.........

I am sure glad that I found this site. I am a 58 year old male, I have been using Advair 500/50 for about 3 years but; I did not know there were side effects with this drug. I have COPD with approximately 15% of lung capacity left. Before starting on the Advair twice a day, I could walk app. 100ft before I got so out of breath. now I am lucky to be able to walk 10 ft. and even then I must rest and catch my breath. I have gained an enormous amount of weight, and at first with a change to my diet I would lose a couple of pounds, but; that was also with my cardiac rehab. The cough is getting much worse and I cough so hard I feel like I am going to pass out. I am nauseated, have no real taste for food anymore. It is hard to swallow even water. I get a sore throat and a lot of mucous and it has become at times very hard for me to speak. I have to speak slowly trying to form my words so they can be understood. I also have a heart condition, and was having real bad palpatations. Why I didn't know, I was hospitalized and was put on Warfain and Solatol which does help. I never would have associated any of these side effects if I had not read them here in this site, thank you for alerting me. I am at a loss as what to do, I am going to contact a lawyer, but; I still do not know if I should stop taking the Advair.

38 yr. old female, prescribed Toprol for irregular heart beat/palps/murmur that I've had all my life but increased earlier this year to uncontrollable. Medication has also helped my migraines tremendously.

I started at 25mg tab/day, 6 months ago. I have adjusted dosage to 1/2 tab/day and take it at lunch time. This seems to be the best fit so far.

Most notable side effects: odd dreams every night (not nightmares), weight gain and mood changes.
These have only lessened in intensity with dosage change (not recommended for everyone - depends on heart condition severity).
Weight gain is most annoying (15 lbs. in 5 months) - must keep calorie/fat/carb intake in check and exercise daily. Going to try anyways...I like Toprol and don't want to give it up unless there is something to help with side effects.

Hello!

This is my second post. I took yasmin for about three months - until my heart started racing and went in and out of beat - at the ER, my heart rate was over 250. I was diagnosed with PSVT (a heart condition). At the ER, they stopped and re-started my heart with medication. I thought that was the worst of it until two weeks ago (about 6 to 8 weeks after the heart-racing) - I had a "gallbladder attack". I have never had one before, do not usually eat fried foods, was told I had stones - had my gallbladder out a week and a half ago. I am 35, in overall good shape - the lab results came back a few days ago - I did not have stones as they first told me. I had a "diseased gallbladder". It had huge polyps in it, which were showing up on the ultrasound as gallstones. I am up tonight, trying to calm down from a panic/anxiety attack - they wake me up in the middle of the night. Have any of you ladies had to go on medication for panic/anxiety? I am already on Cartia (a beta blocker) for my heart - I am afraid to take anything else on one hand, but on the other - I need to sleep at night. Are any of you ladies on heart medication and some kind of anxiety/panic medication? I would love to be able to sleep. I am still praying that these effects from the Yasmin are not perminent. It has been a little over two months now since I quit taking Yasmin. . .

Hello All,

I started Yasmin three months ago when my husband and I moved to Italy and boy has it been awful! You don't have to go to a doctor to get a prescription for many drugs, so I went to a pharmacy and asked one of the pharmacists what she would reccommend since a drug comparable to what I have been taking for the last ten years, Ortho Tricyclin, is not available here. She gave me Yasmin.

I have a heart condition and have always had heart palpatations, but never like this. Yesterday I bent over to pick up a book and thought I was having a heart attack. It was awful. About two months into taking the pill, I was doing a pilates video that I have done dozens of times before with no problems and fifteen minutes into it I had to sit down because I could barely breathe and my heart was beating so hard. Most every day I find myself thinking about breathing, having to purposfully take very deep breaths to make sure that I am actually getting oxygen.

Also, I have been experiencing major mood swings, depression and anxiety. I thought that it was due to the new enviroment, but now I am not so sure. This was the first month that I did not have at least one day where I was a total bitch. Anything anyone said pissed me off. I feel sorry for all of the folks that have been around me that past few months! Especially my wonderful husband who is always so supportive.

I can also mention headaches, massive neck and back tension, lower back pain, lethargy and insomnia.

I have four pills left in this pack and I am not so sure that I want to take them. I am glad that I was referred to an English speaking gyno here. I'll be seeing her soon.

I wish you all good health.
Bright Blessings.
Brandie

OK, first off I wanta say that(please don't get mad at me)when my sister in law told me about this website and the things you guys had said about Yasmin I was like "are they crazy?". Well I see now I was. I thought Yasmin was wonderful, I've lost weight and everything, well after reading what many of you wrote I see now my other problems are from Yasmin. Shortly after starting Yasmin I started taking Serafem for extreme moodiness, didn't link the two together. Then I have 0 and I mean 0 sex drive, I've started eating uncontrollably in the past 2 weeks(I've been on Yasmin for 7 months by the way)and the other day I was talking to my husband when all of a sudden I had what felt like an earth quake in my head! My vision shook and I was dizzy and had a horrific headache(which I most of the time have). It wasn't till I found this site that I realize that was a very serious side affect. It could have been a stroke-like side affect. I've been dizzy for quite some time. I also already a heart condition that causes a fast heartbeat so I definately don't need any help in that area. I'm so glad I found this site. I started my first Nuvaring today so I'm looking up. I really would like to report this drug. Good luck to you all!

My dad had a leg amputation on Sunday. It could not be done at first because his blood pressure kept going up and down. Anyway he finally realized on Saturday that it was the prednizone making this happen. He has lupus. so i come online and find out about all these side effects. And he has most of them. He has been taking that stuff for over 25 years. He has the unexplained bleeding, the acid reflux, weight gain, blackened spots on his face, hardening of the arteries everything except the oesteoporosis thing. Now that he has lost his leg he will need to get the weight down so that he can move around comfortably. It is very depressing for me. he is 69. He also has a heart condition, i guess from hardened arteries and stuff, which was why they had to remove his leg. Anyway I can't seem to help feeling very helpless in this and i want to k now if there is anyway it is possible for him to get off this drug or even decrease the dosage. thanks for your responses.

My father is 81 years old and was diagnosed with colon cancer, he is also a diabetic and has alzheimers. My father was in hospital when we found out that he had cancer and that they could not operate because of his heart condition. Now he is in a nursing home where he has 24 hour a day care. The doctor has told the family last friday that he had 3-4 days left..he is still going but since they have given him morphine he does not eat or drink, he can't get out of bed and his mouth is all dry, his tongue was blackish in colour and he looks really bad, he is skin and bones now and it breaks my heart to see him like this. I was wondering if the things I am noticing about my dad is due to the morphine or what??

I have been prescribed Verapamil and am very reluctant to take it. I take digoxin for atrial fibrillation, (makes no difference) They both control the calcium on a cellular level and yet are counter in effect. The requirement is that both be taken together! Seems a madness to me given the potential toxicity of both and neither cure my condition anyway, at best moderate it. I would be delighted to hear from anyone who has gone down this path and is free of their heart condition. I take Hawthorne & Ginko tinctures daily to keep me going and do not know of or feel any side effects from these. I am still alive but this is in in spite of the various pharmaceuticals administered. Betablockers, Sotalol made me zombie-like. Diltiazem, another calcium channel blocker made me feel awful. Flecainide, put me into intensive care in hospital. Well from my empirical experience I would say avoid these poisons like the plaque and if you can find an alternative. You may of course have found benefit, I and others might say there is nothing like the placebo effect.

I am an average, somewhat healthy 46-year-old woman who is presently taking 50 mgs. daily of Toprol XL for a heart condition - triple arrythmias. For months I have been feeling lethargic and just generally feeling ill with soreness in my ears and throat, and a daily bout with congestion in the mornings that usually clears up midday each day. It finally progressed to the point of fever, chills, muscle aches and pains and general malaise, and I was prescribed Levaquin 500 1xdaily for a diagnosis sinusitus. (Although it's been a few years since I've experienced an acute attack, I do have a history of sinus trouble) Additionally, my facial complexion had become terribly ruddy, blotched and broken out from the underlying sinus infection....

Well, let me just say, that, on my 8th day of Levaquin, perhaps I have noticed a few muscle aches and pains and weakness, as most persons on this website have claimed, but then, in my 46 years of life I have only been on antibiotics 5-6 times and each time I become weak and with muscle aches and pains. Similarly, when one is recovering from anesthesia after surgery, one feels achey and weak. Hello, your body is being subjected to a man-made synthetic to assist your body to achieve its original goal. This most recent goal of mine with levaquin was to rid my body of a sinus infection that had developed an abscess in the sinus cavity. Well, let me add that I have not been able to breathe as clearly and deeply for months, as I have since I started this medication. My lethargy has gone away, and while I still feel the overall feeling of being on a strong antibiotic, I feel extremely improved. I have not developed a red rash. (Perhaps staying in bed resting, and not going in the sun has helped. I do live in sunny Florida) In fact, my ruddy facial complexion has totally improved! I have not had ear ringing, or hallucinations, or an outer body experience, or any other side effect that seems to be popular on this site. Additionally, I experienced not one heart palpitation or heart arrythmia. I agree with the good doctor who recommended on this site that we all take a look at our health history and our symptoms prior to taking the medication and don't blame every symptom on the medication. I am not one to rush to a doctor when I'm feeling a little under the weather, but let me tell you, when I need something to rid my body of bacteria and infection, I thank God for medicenes like Levaquin and the good Doctors who care to really listen to your symptoms and prescribe what you may need.
