I have been on Yasmin for 5 yrs now and was diagnosed with a heart condition at 16 yrs old and dealt with it for 2 years, I started have really bad cramps and going 2-3 months with no period and 2 months of straight bleeding! I came off of Yasmin (Yaz) 6 months ago and since then have come off my heart medication and have had no other problems with my heart. I changed from Yasmin to Ortho Tri Cyclin and have experienced severe cramping heavy bleeding and horrible low back pain! My dr just proscribed me Loestrin, I'm gonna try it at least anything can be better than having a period for 2 months straight and severe pain!! Anybody had problems like mine on OTC?

I had my Mirena put in back in June of 2008 right after I got married. I, too, was lead to believe that the effects of the progesterone were purely "localized" to the uterus and would not cause any symptoms at all.

Since then I've experienced SEVERE migraines and dizziness, loss of libido, greasy skin and hair, weight gain (size 6 to size 10/12), numbness/tingling in my feet, crying, irritability, and SEVERE brain fog. For the migraines, I went to a neurologist who wanted to prescribe me topamax and said the only major side effect is cognitive difficulties! HA!!! I already have the worst brain fog, can't remember anything, am tired.... rather..... exhausted all the time, and can't function.

This Mirena surely works well as birth control, seeing as I have NO SEX DRIVE at all! LOL. But seriously, it's great not to have a period, but I knew something was wrong when I was needing medication (antidepressants for the mood swings, provigil for the fatigue, botox nerve injections for the menstrual migraines) for this medication IUD!

Since no OBGYN believes me when I say I think it's the Mirena, I've began to think I was crazy and this was all in my head. So I started on the internet and all my symptoms sounded like MS. So I had thousands of dollars in testing including a full body MRI/MRA. Negative. Had ENT see me for the vertigo. Lots of tests. Negative. Anemic? No. Thyroid? Normal.

HOW MUCH MORE DO WE HAVE TO SPEND ON HEALTH CARE TO FIND OUT WE ARE "FINE" WHEN WE FEEL THE WORST WE'VE EVER FELT???

Then I found this site!!! I think it's the Mirena now! So I want to get it out. But then on the other hand, I feel SO GUILTY that my husband paid $900 for it and I only kept it 1 year. That's expensive birth control! But then again, all the tests, doctor's bills, and feeling lousy cost more! (Not to mention that my doctor cut my strings too short so we can't "check" them each month so to be certain that my IUD is in place he makes me get an ultrasound every 6 months for $250!!!)

My ONLY FEAR is that I will have this out and the symptoms WON'T go away and it was NOT the Mirena after all. Then I will have gone through the pain of putting it in, taking it out, and the cost of "throwing one away" and then what am I supposed to do? I'm 29 but in school and can't get pregnant for a few more years. I don't want to go back on the pill because the mood swings were terrible. But I never had migraines or anything on those, so why is the Mirena causing problems?

Any feedback or encouragement would be helpful right now. I need advise!

I started taking Welchol in February of 2009. Took 4-6 pills a day. I began to have heart palpitations, and flutterings of the heart soon after. I did not see any connection to my symptoms with the Welchol. I went to the doctor and he did a CT and told me that the heart was fine. He increased my heart medication and still the palpitations went on. Then, last week, I forgot to take the Welchol...didn't take it for a whole day and suddenly the heart palpitations ceased. I'm into 4 days without the Welchol and have had no heart palpitations whatsoever. I will stay off it for awhile...then try it again, and if the palpitations return, I will know who the culprit is. Is anyone else out there having this problem. I did have the tiredness and after reading all these side affects, I now know the reason why.

My Dad,a 78 year old highly functioning man, was admitted to the hospital last Wednesday evening, June 25, with a case of bacterial pneumonia. They gave him his first dose of Avelox, at 10:00PM. Twelve hours later, he was hallucinating, agitated, had an irregular racing heartbeat. He also had severe tremors, shaking. They gave him more medication for his heart and transferred him to the cardiac unit. They put him on a blood thinner, heart medication. Tested his heart and examined his brain. All tests came back negative. Thank God my father's heart is strong, or we probably would have lost him. 3 days later, I was on the internet researching Avelox, and noticed immediately that all of his problems were side effects of this drug. My family notified the doctor immediately and demanded that they switch my father's meds. The doctors did so reluctantly. They had never heard of these kind of side effects related to Avelox, even though it affects almost 3% of the population. My father had his last dose of Avelox on Sunday. Today, Tuesday, he is still having some "visions" and is confused. I don't know how long it is going to take for these side effects to disappear. The doctors are no help. This medication has caused my father and family severe stress, and prolonged his stay in the hospital. It has cost the insurance company extra money, since they had to do unnecessary testing on my father to try and determine the cause of his symptoms. He was also given additional meds that he never would have needed if they had just prescribed Zithromax from the beginning. AVOID AVELOX - IT COULD KILL YOU!

I have been taking Digitek since May 2005. In October 2007 I began to feel lethargic, arms felt they weighed 5 pounds each. Then in February 2008 I began to see PLAID (red, green and yellow)! Opthalmalogic tests showed problem was probably in medication and not caused by a eye problem. Had brain and neck scans, x-rays, blood testing and all turned out fine. I am still seeing PLAID and am still off all my medications since February. I have a pacemaker and should be taking some heart medication but am not being given any replacement medication. The Digitek (250mcg) I was taking was listed as one of the recalled pills. You have to go through the FDA's Freedom of Information Act to get more info.

Hello to all. I am so glad I am not crazy. I found this site 1 day before my appointment to have the Mirena removed. I am so glad I did. I will give you a little history of myself. I'm 29 years old with 3 children. In July 2006, I had my 3rd child, and 4 days later I went into cardiac arrest. They diagnosed me with Postpartum Cardiomyopathy. While I was in the hospital they told me I could never become pregnant again. It would be too risky, cause the next time I could die. I was in a coma for 5 days, so waking up to that was hard to take. Before I left the hospital, they begged me to have a tubal. I told them no. When I went to see my doctor 5 weeks later, she wanted to put me on the Mirena, but she had to get my heart doctor's approval. He said according to what I have, I could even go on oral contraceptives and he wouldn't be concerned. But I read the literature on the Mirena and I decided that this was the best thing for me. The doctor inserted it in November 2006. It was very uncomfortable when she put it in. Then the side effects started, but until almost a year later, I didn't realize it was from the Mirena, since I was on heart medication too. The heart doctor took me off my heart meds in June 2007. Then that was when I realized that the symptoms was coming from the Mirena. I had absolutely no sexual desire. I felt horrible, but I couldn't help it. I told my husband of 10 years and he kept telling me to go get it removed. My back and neck hurt all the time. I had gained 16 pounds and felt bloated all the time since I have been on it. I thought that I was doing something way off, now I know that it was the Mirena. I had no energy at all. I felt like I could stay in the bed all the time and then when I would go to bed I couldn't sleep or if I did I kept waking up. I have been stressed and depressed. Then my throat hurt all the time. Also I have heartburn all the time. I have never had heartburn, except when I was pregnant. Then I bled 3 weeks out of 4 every month. So I have to wear a pantyliner all the time. So having to do that has caused yeast infections all the time (which I have never had before). I have never had that in my entire life. I have always been regular and normal. I have had abdominal pains, joint pains. I couldn't stand it anymore. I went to the doctor yesterday for my appointment to have it removed that I made 3 months ago. She said that she could give me this and that for some of symptoms, but I told her I just wanted it out. So thank goodness it's out and hopefully I will be able to see some improvements in my body. Already I have no bloating. I was able to get a pair of pants on today that was too tight last week. How amazing was that. I really wish I had googled this over a year ago or I would have never had it put in.
Thanks to all the ladies that I have listed their symptoms, to prove to me and others that we are not crazy.

Started on Effexor XR after trying several other antidepressants. Effexor worked the best for me, and I loved it. But the longer I was on it, the worse things became. I started on 37.5 mg, then up to 75mg. Then to 150mg and then 325. By that time, I was completely numb. No emotions. I did not cry for over 3 years. I ended up with severe headaches, heart issues and more. Do NOT stop taking this med cold turkey. It made me sick and nauseas, so I went back on it, gradually lowering the dose until I was off. But even weaning off of it took me a good 4 months before I felt somewhat normal again.
My twin sister took it for 4 days and stopped immediately due to it causing severe heart issues that led to an ER visit and now-daily Atenolol, a heart medication.
A friend took Effexor XR this summer, and after a couple of weeks, pretty much went crazy on it and ended up in the psych ward on a 72-hour hold because she was a safety threat to herself.

There are other medications out there without such drastic side-effects and withdrawal effects. Pay attention to any changes and mention them to your doctor right away. I loved this med cause it worked the best for me, but hated the side-effects enough, that I couldn't stay on it.

Remicade did wonders for me, my Crohns went into remission. Still have muscle pain over a year after not taking it. Maybe that is from the Imuran. When I had my infusions I had to have Prednisone before & during because of an allergic reaction.

One month ago I went into CHF, I have cardiomyopathy and A-fib. They put in an ICD that paces. I was sent home on Toprol 50 2x/day .Lisinopril 5 1x/day, Digoxin 125 1x/day & Coumadin. I weigh 86 lbs. These heart meds zapped all the life I had remaining out of me. Even at half doses I was in a fog with severe anxiety. I felt so bad I was readmitted 2x/ in a month. I have tried to take them at night, I have tried spacing them and nothing works other than being drug free. (Coumadin is not a problem) The Dr said there are some folks who just can't tolerate them, and that my real protection comes from my ICD. I worry about not taking the meds, but I have no quality of life with them so what can I do?

My mother was prescribed this drug for the pain associated with Shinges. The doctor prescribed 1 to 2 tablets every four hours. My mother is 89 years old and was in much pain. Shortyly after taking this medication she began hallucinating seeing building, flowers on the wall and people in her room. I was never able to tell if she was dreaming in her sleep or just high on the drug itself. But when fully awake she was confused about almost everything. She got her Doctors mixed up, her heart medication and other drugs were either not taken or taken too often, and her ability to do such things as operate the tv remote or the wireless telephone was so confusing she couldn't use them. Beware of this drug for the elderly, especially if they live alone. It did help with the pain but she now says she would rather have the pain than what the drug Propoxy did to her senses for almost two weeks. Oh, she even cut the dosage to a half pill every four hours but the results I just described were the same. It took her a long time to get back to normal. She is now taking acylovir for the shingles and seems much better.

Hello!

This is my second post. I took yasmin for about three months - until my heart started racing and went in and out of beat - at the ER, my heart rate was over 250. I was diagnosed with PSVT (a heart condition). At the ER, they stopped and re-started my heart with medication. I thought that was the worst of it until two weeks ago (about 6 to 8 weeks after the heart-racing) - I had a "gallbladder attack". I have never had one before, do not usually eat fried foods, was told I had stones - had my gallbladder out a week and a half ago. I am 35, in overall good shape - the lab results came back a few days ago - I did not have stones as they first told me. I had a "diseased gallbladder". It had huge polyps in it, which were showing up on the ultrasound as gallstones. I am up tonight, trying to calm down from a panic/anxiety attack - they wake me up in the middle of the night. Have any of you ladies had to go on medication for panic/anxiety? I am already on Cartia (a beta blocker) for my heart - I am afraid to take anything else on one hand, but on the other - I need to sleep at night. Are any of you ladies on heart medication and some kind of anxiety/panic medication? I would love to be able to sleep. I am still praying that these effects from the Yasmin are not perminent. It has been a little over two months now since I quit taking Yasmin. . .

I have been taking synthroid for 13 years. Had heart palpitations and irregular heart beat - ER dr put me on heart medication. I am seeing psycholgist for anxiety. He suggested that medication can contribute / cause my anxiety. Was doing research on-line for side effects and found this website. Good to know others have had similar side effects. I doubt I need to be on the heart medication since it seems that the synthroid may be the reason for the heart problems. Is there another thryoid med out there for hypothyroidism? All the dr told me was that it is a synthetic form of what my body normally produces - I had no idea it could have side effects or even contribute to other problems!
