I'm only on 10mg Simvastatin and 10mg Lisinopril. I have type 1 diabetes and a minor TBI from a heat stroke. If I stop taking these then after a day or two I will start feeling barely controllable fits of rage. Sometimes I still get angry but for some reason the lisinopril and Simvastatin seem to ease it. I also have hypogonadism. I like my combo of simvastatin and lisinopril in the morning with my 20mg adderall. Little bit of redness on face but the benefits seem to outweigh.

I forgot to add a very important side effect in my last posting.

When I first started Topamax I discovered that it can affect your body's ability to regulate heat. It only happens in extreme heat. I was on a relatively low dose at the time (100 mg) and I traveled to Costa Rica where it was very hot every day. I became very hot and could not cool off which I had never had trouble with before. It was a strange experience and I would find myself becoming overheated very quickly without knowing it was happening. When I returned home I talked to the doctor and he told me to be really careful because Topamax can block your body from sweating which in turn can cause you to overheat and then essentially be at risk for heat stroke. Again it only happens in extreme heat and I was fine when I was near water and could swim, etc. but when I was hiking, sitting on hot buses and my body kept heating up it was really scary. At one point, I got so hot and my face turned so red that I poured bottle of water over my head to cool down. Just be aware of the possibility so that you can prepare for it...

I am on my second time around with Topiramate (generic Topamax). It has been a year, and I have no reason other than weight loss to take this drug. I also don't know if the online generic versions are really Topamax except I do experience some of the side effects I read about, the tingling arms and legs, the itching, and the foul tasting carbonated drinks. I have started at 25 mg. per day 3 days ago, and am at 250 mg today with no cut in appetite except an hour after I take the pills. Do you think they are even real?

This drug has another effect not mentioned here so far: It can cause a heat stroke and brain damage if taken by a patient who is exposed to Summer heat and sun, etc. Don't lie on the beach and drink any alcohol or you might simply pass out FOREVER!!!! SERIOUSLY!!!!!

I was prescribed Synthroid for Hypothyroidism about 6-months ago. I was told my thyroid is covered w/ nodules caused by Hoshimotos(?) Thyroiditis. Prior to that I suffered with severe anxiety attacks. Since my first dose of Synthroid I have felt much calmer. I realize Synthroid isn't prescribed for that, but I definitely feel much better. However, now it is early spring, and I ventured out for some light gardening and thought I was going to die from heat stroke and a pounding heart - it is only 68 degrees! Could this be a side effect or perimenopause?

PLEASE READ MY STORY!!!....My Doc switched me from Dyazide to Lisinopril Hctz 20/12.5 in Jan'07 for my high blood pressure. The first day after I started taking the medication, my BP dropped very LOW and so did my heart rate-53. My blood pressure readings continued to be consistently LOW for months, but Doc kept telling me it was OK. Had other side effects; Cough, lethargy, swollen LIP, (daughter called me Duck Lips!) sleeplessness, lightheadedness, hairloss, muscle fatigue. All symptoms I attributed to Menopause. (Except the duck lips)Over the summer, I developed slight Edema in my extremities whether I was exercising or not, thought that was weird. Told Doc about it, she ordered Blood work done to see what inflammation level is. Lab Report showed; INCREASE in BUN & Creatinine levels with eGFR level DECREASING. These levels are indicators of Impaired Kidney Functioning! Doc not concerned, tells me not to worry, just a "Bad Test Day." She increases my dosage to 20/25. Within 4 weeks of the increase, I experienced 3 bad episodes, 2 of which I went to the Emergency Room and should've for the other. In all the episodes I experienced Chest pain, Shortness of Breath, Severe Headache, Dizziness. I'm thinking I'm having a Heart Attack or Stroke because I'm a very high RISK. Tests come out normal, docs however, concerned about my LOW Blood Pressure readings but None of them tell me to discontinue the Lisinopril HCTZ. Have a 4th episode two weeks ago after walking/hiking about a mile and a half, stopping periodically to rest and drinking plenty of water on the way. After I completed my walk, I again rested for 45 minutes. I stood up, became very Dizzy, developed Shortness of Breath, Bad Headache, Profusely Perspiring, Back pain. Dummy me drove 10 minutes to get home (Should NOT have done that) Had daughter call 911. Was admitted to the hospital with SEVERE Dehydration, Dangerously LOW Blood Pressure-63/34, and going into Renal Failure which blood tests confirmed. I'm given IV fluids plus Potassium Chloride. Hospital takes me OFF of Lisinopril HCTZ and puts me on Lisinopril at 5mg!!! Had a hunch, Told the Docs at the hospital against their advice, "I'm NOT taking the Lisinopril!!" Upon discharge my BP remained in the 80-90's/40-50', except when I threw the doctor out of my hospital room because he wasn't listening to me. My Dystolic rose to a whopping 66. Went to my Doc for follow-up in two days. My BP was 146/98. Told her what I told other Docs. She convinces me to try Lisinopril 5mg for 30 days. Took it for 2 days, still bothered by what happened and searching for more information. Got LUCKY, Found this website!! I threw the bottle away. Went to a Nephrologist that specializes in hypertension. My hunch/intuition was correct!! He told me in RARE cases, Lisinopril will "cause" renal insufficiency. Discontinuation of the medication will reverse the negative effects. (I hope) Current Blood work states levels within normal reference range.

Looking for a good Medical Malpractice Attorney.

Hi,
I've been reading up on Toporal XL and read your posts, I too was put on med. about a year ago. They did all sorts of heart test and found nothing but an extra beat? I don't like taking medication unneccesaryly and after a few months stopped taking it. I slowly weaned mysefl off by streching the days, from one a day to every other day to every third day....I have no other health issues and I"m thinking if this is for heart and blood pressure , why am I taking it? .Not sure if I'm doing the right thing, but I'm afraid to get addicted to med. that I really don't need. I had a good Dr. for 30 yrs. and he retired. So I don't have much faith in a new Dr. Does he just want to run up my bill? Or do I need this? Test had run into the thousands, thank God I have insurance... So far I've been feeling fine. Sometimes I feel alittle dizzy. But the scarist thing was that I had passed out one day while working outside. Don't know if it was from the medication or heat stroke. I wasn't out to long and had plenty to drink, but then I hadn't ate yet...

Hi all. I was diagnosed 3 or 4 years ago with epilepsy. So far, I have on about 5 different epilepsy meds. I can't recall the first 3 but had to get off them because of physical side-effects. My last one was Dilatin which worked pretty well for a year. I slept great - 8 hours on the dot. Then, I started to have short seizures that began to successively lengthen. So, I was switched to Keppra.

I started at 250mg/2xday on Keppra and now am up to 1000mg/2xday. I also started taking B6 100mg/day. A couple of days after starting Keppra, I started to get slight headaches. These went away after about 2 weeks. I also got a numb patch on the same place on the bottom of each foot. When I went up to 500mg/2xday, the numb patch spread, I started to feel off-balance, and I started to get the "rage" symptoms. I went up to 1000mg/2xday and most of the bottom of my two feet went numb and cold, I began to get slight tingling in my fingers and a mild case of tightness in my chest. I still felt off-balance and the rage symptoms were there. It began to get hard to get to sleep and I would get up unnecessarily early and not be able to fall back asleep. I want off this med. Maybe it works great for other people but for me it I take it at the levels I need to, I won't be able to work or do much of anything.

I have been on Methadone for approx. six months for a second time and i have been getting extremely clammy and i sweat and have heat attacks so severe, i'm so afraid of this summer, afraid i might have a heat stroke. It seems my body cannot control my heating system. Someone suggested i might be starting menopause, but i do not have sweating spells unless i'm moving around or even standing ,or if it's hot, not like hot flashes in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. Also i have always had the best blood pressure, now i have high blood pressure since using methasone for pain control and i have to take Toprol. Doctors think it's just a coincidence but i know it's the meth and i am slowly weaning off. I just hope my body can return to normal. Has anyone had these same problems.

I have been on Lisinopril now for 4 months. I developed a terrible dry cough, I suffered a heat stroke after only being outside for about 45 minutes, I have episodes of what I call "Brain Freezes", when my brain will not think and I cannot talk. All these things happened while being on Lisinopril.
Only yesterday did I find out the terrible side effects associated with this drug. I have had abnormal Blood tests. In fact they are fearing that I have Lymphocytic Leukemeia.

This drug causes increase in WBC, dry cough, extreme sensitivity to heat and to sun, mental changes.
This is not a fit drug for man nor beast.
My face and eyes stay extremely puffy all the time , which is another side effect.
I refuse to take this drug any longer and will be seeing my MD. on wednesday. If he should refuse to beleive my symptoms are related to this partioculr medication, then I suppose I will find another MD.
After all our MD's. work for us. We are the boss and anyone whose Md. refuses to accept your symptoms as a side effect of this drug is not a good Md.
Find another Doctor and tkae control of your life. You know how you feel, and you know if something isn't right.

This was a new one for me. I have been on Topamax for about 10 weeks, and I'm taking 50 mg in the morning, and50 mg before bed. I get the usual side effects, tingling in hands and feet and soda tastes bad, I don't have ANY problems sleeping, but I have no energy. Anyway, today I was working out, I did about 15 minutes at a real easy pace on the elliptical trainer and I felt really sluggish, so I tried to run on the treadmill. I ran 1 mile at a 12 minute pace (which for me is a challenge) and I was so HOT I had to stop. I was burning up, but oddly, I was NOT SWEATING--at ALL. My skin was hot to the touch and bright red. I was probably very close to heat stroke. Make sure if you are on this medication, especially if you exercise, that you drink plenty of water. This has never happened before and I work out regularly, but it really scared the heck out of me.

I went to the Doctors on July 28th for a bubble that was appearing on my left chek bone. My doctor diagnosed me with an ear and sinus infection. He then gave me 14 days worth of Levaquin 500 mg. This was second time he had given me this drug. 3 weeks prior to this he gave me 6 days worth of Levaquin for the same bubble that appeared on my face and then sent me to a dermatologist. I had been feeling faint, dizzy, hot , cold, heart palpitations, however though I had the flu or heat stroke(this was the first time I wason Levaquin) This last tome I had taken 12 of the 14 pills and noticed my right knee had been bothering me for about a week, funny taste in my mouth (like a filling was leaking), tirede, irritable and then my left shoulder was hurting. I kept thinking I must have bumped on soemthing, well then my right shoulder started hurting,. The left shoulder got so severe I could not even pull my shiort up over my head without breaking into tears. Finally my husband said, I bet its that antibiotic your taking. I recvd samples of the medication so Indid not have the write up they give you at the pharmacy. I thought I was going crazy, the pain was getting hard to tolerate. When I saw my doctor I told him what was going on and he said he had only heard of the Archilles tendon giving some patients problems as a side effect. He had never ehard of the shoulders however he said to go off the medicine and he prescribed me soma (muscle relaxer) did not help and then Vicodin(did not help). I have been off the medicine for 5 days including today, feeling a litlle better both shoulders still hurt especially at night and I tire easily. I think this is poison and should be taken off the market. I told the doctor he needs to go on to the internet and educate himself I was furious.
