Diarrhea! Only one dose taken and after reading these experiences I am puffing myself up to make it through the next seven days. Wow, I am a bit freaked out, but I am scared not to take the rest of this Doxycycline now that I've already started. I was told to take it to avoid a possible infection from my surgery.
Which would be worse?! I had the foresight at least to pick up a probiotic on the way home and will take it at a measured time away from my antibiotic dose. I hope it helps. I am also eating a full meal before taking the Doxycycline. I will report back on any continuing or additional symptoms and whether I feel the probiotic was at all effective in lessening the drug's side effects. It may be difficult to distinguish the side effects of my surgery from the medicine, so I will attempt to be discerning. To illustrate: I am dizzy and tired, but either could be the cause of these effects.
To anyone else taking or about to take Doxycycline - ask your doctor if this drug is mandatory or if another, less toxic, drug will suffice. Doxycycline is a heavy duty antibiotic and therefore it is bound to make the human body quite ill as it works it "magic". Take care (and a quality probiotic)!

I had my Mirena IUD inserted at the first of the month of November 2008. My life was normal until then when I started getting so angry to the point of uncontrollable rage. By the end of the month, I was so angry with my boyfriend of 2 years (poor thing didn't do anything wrong) that I had an affair to seal the deal and told him to move out. He stuck by me. Not long after the rage started, I developed extremely oily skin and hair (my skin had always been dry before) and started to gain weight. Then the anxiety attacks started. Then extreme depression, lack of energy and libido. By December when we couldn't explain my attacks of rage, my boyfriend decided to take me to the ER when I was having one of my episodes. They diagnosed me as bipolar and prescribed me some heavy-duty medications (which caused me to gain more weight and possibly decreased my libido even more). By spring '09 I had gained 25 pounds, and my mental issues still plagued me despite the medications and continued therapy. A friend found out I had an IUD and told me that she had the exact same symptoms and had had hers removed. I had no idea the symptoms could even be related since no one had ever said anything about these possible side effects. I made an appointment to have the Mirena removed (the dr of course tried to talk me out of it), and I have been IUD free for 4 weeks now. My head does seems clearer most days and my abdomen has deceased in size (I had someone think I was pregnant before!) I hope to be back to normal someday, and urge other women to consider the side effects before getting the Mirena. I would NEVER had got it if I had know there was even a chance of these terrible side effects.

I have taken cipro before with no obvious problems and am now starting on it again for 2 weeks (1pill a day). This drug is one of a few that people who are allergic to penicillin and sulfa drugs can take to kill bacteria that penicillin normally does. This is considered a 'last resort' drug for us also. I've had a sinus infection as a complication from a dental surgery that refuses to go away for long enough for my mouth to heal - since July 10 (it is now 19Dec). I was prescribed Avelox for the first time yesterday which led me to this website while trying to find pricing info. $168 for 12 pills? at a Walmart? absurd. So I had the doc switched to cipro. They want me to try this 'type' of drug since the others haven't been able to completely eliminate the infection. I will keep in mind everyone here's side effects but I definitely have plans to do a heavy duty DETOX the minute my mouth is healed and I am off the drugs whether I have problems or not. I concur with the constipation though, all antibiotics seem to give me that problem while taking them. Another good reason to do a detox.

DO NOT take antibiotics unless it is a Life or Death situation!
I have been diagnosed with CYSTITIS, based in my breasts & bladder, and now I'm scheduled to go in for other tests because I have had excessive bloating, IBS & pain in my gut.
I thought the Nuva Ring was causing my extreme random cramps, my breast soreness (Extremely Painful, making me want to inject them with novacaine, if it were a good idea...), my Pain During Sex (esp. since I have a lovely sex drive) and most recently, the constant urge to pee when I didn't, but it was NOT the birth control.
ANTIBIOTICS CAUSED THIS!
In the last month I have met 3 more women (& 1 man) with the same/similar problems and diagnosis, All on heavy antibiotics in the last year.
The good news is that it is Not cancerous to my knowledge, there are foods you can eat, like those that are good for reducing swelling, and it's a good idea to Avoid certain foods such as soy, anything too acidic like tomatoes, cranberries or citrus fruits & juices, preservatives, additives, really spicy foods, etc. **It is Very Important to take a Pro-Biotic capsule with At Least 4 different types such as Acidophilus, Bifidum, and others, depending on your symptoms & areas of concern (look up what bacteria does what). Taking these only during antibiotic usage Is NOT Enough!
The bad news? If a few months to a year of partial/full diet change does not help, it is considered either too late to help (get used to the pain, it's not going anywhere) or it may be an auto-immune disease, though this is quite rare.
PLEASE, LADIES -- Take Care when dealing with antibiotics, they are much more dangerous than many people/doctors know/are lead to believe. (And as for the yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis? Take 1 part Hydrogen Peroxide, 3 parts water, douche (rinse, do not let it set for more than 10 sec's) once a day before bed/naptime for a few days, splash Outside Only with cool water if needed, but Not inside. Burn/irritation for about 1 min. but Absolutely worth not waiting for a doc's prescript. or spending endless $ on crappy worthless ointments/creams. Totally safe when Diluted -- Hydrogen peroxide is made naturally on its own in All Vaginas, this just helps to kill yeasts and bad bacteria which are Anaerobic (do not like oxygen).)

I have lived with debilitating migraines for the last 14 years of my life (I'm 33). I had been on heavy duty pain killers that were prescribed monthly to me -- the dulled the pain a little but, really did not help all that much. Almost 2 years ago I got shingles and my doctor put me on lyrica. I thought I had died and gone to heaven at first when I took it I felt really strange like I was dizzy and not really coherent. After the first week or two I did not notice any side effects and my pain had never been so manageable. For some reason my body gets used to the dosages so it has been increased several times -- I currently take 300 mg four times a day. I have gained over 30 pounds in the last year and I am just afraid that I will continue to gain weight. I am considering tapering off the medication but am scared to death that the pain will be unbearable!!

Previously posted 8 year old son w/ suicidal ideation and depression...I'm seeing comments about "inattentive." I've been saying my son is ADD for years....How many of you saw this possible side effect? Off of Singulair for 14 days now....behavior unbelievably improved.

Started taking the generic Toprol XL (metoprolol succinate) 50 mg/day 11 days ago. I had been having vague gastric problems prior to taking it but two days after I started, I began having severe stomach pain that would double me over with diarrhea so severe it felt like my guts were turning inside out. I got a presciption from a doctor I work with for Lomotil which is a fairly heavy duty smooth muscle relaxor for the gut. As the week went on, I was taking these pills every 2-3 hours to keep the pain at bay. I was starting to pass some blood because this was so severe.
I've made an appointment with a GI doctor to have this checked out (couldn't get an appointment for 2 more weeks) and said to my boyfriend I wish I knew what was going on. He pointed out that this started right after I started taking the BP med. I skipped my pill yesterday and today....guess what? I am pain free today for the first time in a week.
I NEVER would have associated this kind of horrible pain with a blood pressure medication. It did bring my pressure down very nicely...in fact it's a bit too low now. Back to the internist next week to try something else out.

I was diagnosed with asthma 8 months ago at 45 years old. It was quite a shock considering I never had sympthoms untill recently. The doctors thought that abulterol would be enough to control it but unfortunately the events become too frequent. They then swictched me to Singular. Wow, what a mistake that wa! Yes, my breathing improved but the side effects were frightening and painful. After only two or three days my arms, hands and fingers were numb and tingling...constant pins and needles...and virtually useless. At night I had the worst most vivid nightmares I've ever had. And I was unable to fall asleep because my mind was constantly racing. It's almost enough to make one psychotic. Plus I had sudden, very painful ear and tooth aches.
All this cleared up a few days after stopping Singualr.
This drugs is suppose to interfere with your body's signals to produce inflammation but it has to be doing so much more, and most of that not good. It seems clear based on my side effects and others I've read about it has a huge impact on the central nervous system too.
This is not a safe drug. I wouldn't be surprised if someone, some day uses it as an excuse for some really bad behaviour. In fact, I'm shocked that this is given to kids at all. If I had to take this for months I would go insane.
BTW, months later, on advice of my doctor, I tried it again with the intent of taking it every other day to limit dose. Nice idea, but no cigar. After just one dose I was once again "flipping out" in bed.
If you have really bad asthma and singular works for you without side effects that's great news. But I'd still ask myself what kind of impact is it having on your body if it does so much damage to so many other people. How safe can it really be?
If you have kids, and they're taking it, please keep a close eye on them. Sometimes kids don't have the communication tools to explain to parents what they're experiencing. Don't make them suffer...and don't let them be punished at school because their behaviour is uncontrollable. It could very well be this med.

My four year old son has been on singulair for 6 weeks. He has started complaining about nightmares, wetting the bed and has become irritable and easily agitated. In addition, he seems to go into these wierd episodes of not being able to control his body...like someone high on drugs. Has anyone had a similar experience?
I will be calling his dr. in the am.

My 24 yr old daughter started taking Biaxin on Chrismas for sinusitis. On Saturday am, she woke up with excruciating abdominal pain that seemed to be worse on the left side, and would radiate to her back. we took her to the ER. They gave her dilaudid ( a heavy duty narcotic for pain) and that helped but didn't take it away. They took an ultrasound and found her ovaries to be normal. They they did a CT scan of her entire abdomen. They also did a urine test and CBC. All tests were fine. They gave her a 2nd dose of diauded, which again helped some, but she still had pain. Finally, after 5 hours, they gave her a big dose of anti-inflammatory and then the pain went away. They sent us home and said it was just some mysterious thing. Now I'm wondering if it could be the biaxin

Right after I take it, I drop to sleep or feel faint if I try to stay awake. It's really scary because I have a 3 yr old at home with me who needs my constant attention. I have started taking it at night. Also I work for a call in crisis center and for the first month on it I just could not force myself to listen ot others troubles. Normally I am a very compassionate and patient person. I was irritable, edgy, and actually began seeing the callers as draining. I love my job and love being a friend to others, all this dried up. I had a severe hormonal reaction after the birth of my daughter and Yasmin was supposed to be the magic cure. How are you supposed to work on this stuff? I have eaten dinner out somewhere rather than cook because I find the kitchen overwhelming. The household chores have gone amiss where before I was very organized and tidy. I just cannot find the energy. Then the fog would wear off in the evenings and I stay up too late. One morning determined to conquor the "drowsies" I drank a water glass heavy duty dark coffee and still literally dropped off in a coma like sleep. I notice they are strong after I eat as well. I am on my second month and reluctant to give it up because I have been suffering with so many other hormonal issues prior to taking it!

After 3 months taking lipitor, woke up during the night with full body muscle spasms. Emergency crew took me to emergency wherby morphine was injected over a three hour period to loosen the tightened muscles. Use of lipitor ended that evening.
For the next 26months, 8-12 major spasms occurred within a 24 hour period. Methocarbanol was and still is being used as a combative tool against spasms.
Currently determining what should be taken to provided nutrients to the muscles to help them to repair the damage done by the spasms that occurred.
Presently, major spasms have diminished to 4-6 per month, tight muscles persist, and its very easy to have muscle cramps when doing miscellaneouls medium to heavy duty chores. Medium would be reaching out to help pull yourself up and heavy would be snow shoveling with medium size shovel.
In my case, Zetia (non-statin) has brought my chloresterol levels down to an acceptable level & no side effects have occurred.

My 22 y/o dtr was diagnosed Bipolar 5 years ago, but has been very stable for almost all of that time. That is, until she started Yasmin. Eight weeks into taking Yasmin, s sincehe suddenly had a psychotic episode and has not been able to get stable, in spite of multiple heavy-duty meds they have tried her on. She just stopped the Yasmin last month. Today was her first period, so we will see what happens. Sounds like it may still take awhile, if this is related to the Yasmin.

I was on prednisone for 1 year for chronic pericarditis, finally weaned off and no problem with my heart since. It now been 5 month and I now have chronic shoulder and foot pain, I've read that it can take up to a year for your body to adjust and produce the correct levels of cortisone, I'm taking voltaren when the pain is too much, I feel like a 75 year old in the morning and I'm only 48. I feel so sorry for everyone who has had issues as well.
