I have been using Aviane for the past two years. I used to use Yasmin but hated it since it gave me small spider veins around my legs. I honestly like Aviane a lot more. It's cheaper, I haven't gained weight, and my periods only last for maximum of 3 days. there is a very very light flow and no cramps at all. My period used to last 5 days with a very VERY heavy flow plus I used to get cramps. the only thing that bothers me about Aviane is that i feel dryer during sex and it's harder for me to have an orgasm. i definitely noticed the decreased sexual drive and my breasts always feel tender and swollen.

I am really glad that there are these other postings on here so that I know that I am not alone. I am 49 years old and had my mirena inserted day after labor day. I was told that it would help with my medical conditions but so far I believe that they have only made them worse. I have yet to stop flowing and to be honest would prefer how it was before hand with just one week for severe heavy flow instead of 2 months so far of heavy. I have started with acne something that I never had as a teenager and I feel like someone has inflated me into a balloon. I find myself walking around in a haze all the time and I also find myself very depressed and with no or very little energy which is all so uncommon for me. I have an appointment in 3 days with my family doctor and this thing is coming out one way or another even if I have to pull it out.

Hi, I was on Singulair for two years and I had one additional side effect that I've not seen anyone else mention: allergy-like reactions to antibiotics. Prior to taking Singulair I had a bad reaction to only one antibiotic, doxycycline. I had elevated heart rate and blood pressure and ended up with what I was told is called intracranial hypertension or high blood pressure in the head which is the worst and most severe headache I've ever experienced.

While I was on Singulair I had the same reaction to every antibiotic that I was prescribed and they were all antibiotics that I had taken in the past without any problem. I stopped taking Singulair about a month ago and was able to take an antibiotic again without any problem. Every medical professional I've talked with about it said it was news to them and they've never heard of such a side effect.

This was, of course, in addition to many of the other mental and emotional side effects that other people have posted about: severe anxiety, suicidal thoughts, depression, inability to think coherently. The worst was just before periods. I figured it was wacky hormones after having my son but my periods since stopping stopping Singlulair have been WORLDS different. The first was within a few days of stopping and I had really heavy flow with lots of clots. (I know, TMI... sorry!) The most recent period came with mild PMS instead of the mental near-incapacitation accompanied by paralyzing anxiety and depression that I had been experiencing the past two years and the period has been relatively mild and manageable.

One more side effect I want to mention is intestinal cramping. I have been having increasingly frequent intestinal cramping and pain over the past year and had no idea what was causing it. I missed work and spent long periods of time in the bathroom expecting diarrhea that rarely came. Since stopping Singulair that has stopped as well.

All I can say is that Singulair was clearly not the drug for me. My entire life has been improved in just 3 - 4 weeks since I stopped taking Singulair. That's good considering my entire life was turned upside down over two years of taking it... at least the improvement has been faster than the degradation. Now if I can just get my asthma under control again (no, Singulair did not manage the asthma well to top it all off) I'll be doing beautifully!

I just started my second pack of pill yesterday and I don't know if I like these pills. I am taking zoloft also for anxiety and my side effects are horrilble. I have had a hard time falling asleep (I literally have to lay in bed with my eyes closed for hours before falling asleep), I have terrible nigh sweats and wake up drenched in sweat, I sleep all day long, I have horrific nightmares which I never had before, and massive headaches.
I am not sure if I want to stay on the pill, I know it is only my second month and it takes a couple months to regulate but the side effects are ruining my social life. I feel like a zombie.
About the third week in my first pack i started spotting (or what I thought was spotting). It lasted 8 days, and my normal period was only 6 days. I bled just as much as on my normal period and has severe cramps as well. The only reason I got my 'period' was because I was about an hour off on taking my pill the previous day. It is pathetic.
Has anyone else had these symptoms? Or have any suggestions on better birth control pills.?
Oh and I am 18 years old.

Hi Everyone i hope you are all getting well x

My name is Mandy i had my coil put in almost just over four years ago following an emergency ectopic pregnancy, i was in hospital for a week (bad times). I was in no fit state to argue with the docs recommendations as this was all new to me, so i let them do what they wanted basically!

I had the "DEMON" removed on Thursday night (1st July 2009) by my own doctor much to her disapproval

After all the years of knowing here she actually didnt really care for me deciding to get it removed! And preceded to lecture me on contraception.I am 40 and have a 20 and 18 year old! and was mad she made a big deal of it considering my loss 4 years previous.

I ended up telling her in my most maddened but calm voice " if you dont take this out now i am either going to kill myself, kill my family or kill you"!

I told her about the thinning hair (which as a point of fact ladies for me is a big thing, not because i am proud of my locks, but because the doctors can poo poo any symptoms they like as hormonal, stress, womans probs, just woman in general!! but all of these woman all having thinning hair hmmmmm bit weird to me!) she did agree the mood swings and weight gain was the coil though.

I am not the same person i was four years ago, despite having a great life, house, hubby, job, kids, i do get the same stress as any other person and want to put the world to rights, but nothing a few friends and a bottle of wine couldn't cure. (pre coil)

If don't know if i will have any friends left!

Today i have some bleeding (i never had heavy flow before thankfully) although i did have major PMT, i expect a crash at somepoint, i am anxious and panicky and actually thought i was having a stroke, but panic will do that, i have low blood pressure ( which is on the up) tingling headaches and all due to removal i hope lol and hormones being all out of whack.

BUT....every time i thing of the little evilness not being inside me anymore i smile and feel great!

It may be for some people but it wasn't for me, now i want the old Mandy back or whatever is left of her, and maybe drop the weight along the way!!

Good luck to you all and make yourself heard xxooxxx

M. :)

I had the Mirena put in July 3rd 08 at my 6 week check up after I had my second child. I did not have much pain during insertion. However now (about a year later) is a different story. I am glad that I found this page, and I am not alone. I have the common side effects that others list on here like weight gain, mood swings, irregular periods that are different consistency (clots, stringing, heavy flow, light flow), extreme fatigue but unable to sleep, lack of interest in normal activities, and breast tenderness. I know I expected the mood swings, weight gain (but did not think it would be the 18lbs i gained while i was eating healthy and working out) and cramping for a few months after insertion. However the past 2 months I have had a lot of pain in my pelvis. Cramping is not the right word for it, it feels like pressure on my pelvis. Like someone is standing on what feels like my ovary. This is also with the occasional flutter in my stomach that feels like a baby kicking. I have gotten what I believe is my period and took a pregnancy test that was negative. The pain is mainly on the right side which goes around to my hip and sometimes up to my shoulder. It has now turned into a stabbing pain in my lower middle abdomen (this is all with no other bleeding other than my 3 day period). I am calling to doctor tomorrow to get myself checked out. I feel the strings in the same place I always have but the pain is something I can no longer take. I am not sure that this is worth it anymore, I think its time to talk to the husband about a vasectomy!

I was on Alesse for years to regulate my hormones and it worked very well. The pharmacy automatically changed it to Aviane when this product came out. For the first few months I didn't notice any changes in me, but during a physical my doctor told me that many of her patients were going back to Alesse because of problems with Aviane. I guess I forgot about what she said for a while because I was fine, but since then my periods alternate between almost no cramps/no flow one month, to unbearable cramps and super heavy flow the next month. I get many pimples one or two weeks a month on my face and chest (on Alesse I would always get just one face pimple per cycle), I am nauseous two weeks a month (last month I called in sick for two days in a row because of it), most of the time I have a dull pain behind my eyes, and around the 3rd week of each cycle I have horrible personal itch issues, sometimes leading to yeast infections. I had a light bulb moment yesterday, realizing that this could all be due to Aviane. I am going back to Alesse no matter the cost.

I got my Mirena taken out on Monday. Thank God! I feel better already. The dizziness is gone and I feel good overall. I started my first REAL period today after having my baby November 5th. It's pretty heavy flow and I got the cramps, headache, etc. that goes with it. Even though I HATE my period (don't we all?) it feels good to know I am back to normal. We are using condoms now (he HATES them!). I am looking into getting Essure we've decided one is enough for us (I am only 31, but one is REALLY enough). My doctor was kind of rude, and when I asked her about the Essure, she asked me what I would do if I lost the baby I have now. That's a really rude question, I think. Anyways, let mek now your thoughts. All of your posts are wonderful to read! :)

I am amazed. I got online to look up coupons for Lupron because the shot after insurance is $569. I found this blog here about all the discomforts of Lupron. I did some research before hand, but never saw this site. I have to say, I was in some pain on a daily basis for years until I had my two children and when I stopped breastfeeding the second, that is when my pain came back, but ten fold. My periods were more out of whack in pain and I had been on the IUD for 14 months at that poinr. Doctors always thought i just had some bad stomach virus or that it was in my head and I was full of too many symptoms, but low and behold, I started monitoring the pain, and it always fell on a cycle. The doctors still took no consideration-it is a stomach bug, did a bunch of tests for stomach viruses and bacterias, nothing came up. Lots of pain except when my period began. Then I was home free of pain for a goof 2 weeks. Months I had no period, no pain. 1-2 weeks before period, rash on my face, skin peeling off fingers and toes, hair always falling out in gobs, fingernails breaking so easily, nauseated most of the time, and back and abdomen pain that accompanied menstrual cramps from Hades and medium to heavy flow periods. Eventually I am in the ER again in a different city visiting my parents and they doc finds my gall bladder has completely stopped working and now producing "sludge". We figured that was my problem, the hormones and sickness following my cycle was just a fluke.
A little over a month after surgery. That 1-2 weeks before my period of torture turned into 2-3 weeks. I went into the ER with the same pains as before, the pains that should have gone away with removing gall bladder since that was supposed to be my problem....but obviously not.
My church began praying and a new set of doctors Come to find out my liver was very inflamed, my enzymes were very elevated, and finally I got someone to listen about the cyclitic nature of the sickness. Endo was brought up several times by different docs, my new primary care, a GI, and now GYN was concerned.
To make matters worse, I had completely lost my libido-I have always had in the norm but high testosterone to accompany high estrogen levels and as a diagnostic test to relieve the pain now coming from sex, I came off the IUD.Then I had 7 days of no pain in one month and then next month was 4 days of no pain. My bleeding became much much worse, the pain was outrageously bad. I did mention I have 2 kids-toddlers I stay at home with...I was not functioning well and recruiting help to care for them and my husband and home. If I did not have the knowledge and trust that the Lord does not give us more than we can handle, I could easily see how someone could fall into depression because at all times I was in some level of pain, even if it was just nagging.
My GYN wanted to avoid cutting into me at all costs, and because of all of the hormone and natural drug therapies I had previously been on prior to having children because of my menstrual cycles being so irregular (1-2 cycles a year heavy and painful lasting 2 weeks or more) and the bad reactions I had had to them, he said relief can come from hysterectomy-removing my ovaries as well, but he is concerned because I am 26 yrs young and that is such a big decision with many things at stake. I already had plans to adopt, not having any more children for lots of reasons including my health deteriating after each one, so he highly recommended a highly talented endocrinologist who took over. This endocrine doc would like to postpone surgery and decided insstead of performing the Laproscopic to look around, use the Lupron as a diagnostic test. If I got better within the next 3 months, it is my ovaries causing this pain. If I did not, we would continue for maximum of 6 months, and if I still didn't get better, then something else is causing my troubles outside of the female regions.
I was anxious because at that point, I could take no pain medicine whatsoever because my liver was still trying to detox from all the pain meds through the summer and fall. I drank lots of water, 86-120 oz on any given day, ate lots of grapefruits and oranges to clean me out, and waited for the shot to kick in. I had just gone into another cycle, pain now while bleeding a waterfall all day, no days off, and hoping the Lupron would be a relief. My church spread the word praying about the situation.
4 days later almost every symptom is gone. 7 days later I am totally pain free. I have had 23 days of no pain. I have always ate good healthy foods, some organic but not crazy about it, exercise when I am not throwing up nauseated or drained 2-4 days a week. I missed out on a lot because I was so miserably sick and pained and always tired. I have had more energy in these last 23 days than before. I don't HAVE to nap now when the children nap, I can make it through a full session of aerobic exercise without feeling nauseated or crampy. I can think more clearly now and have memories coming back to me that I thought I had lost.
I may be on the rare cases of the spectrum here-but I had to post to make sure that women searching knew Lupron was not all bad. I get my next dose this weekend. It burns some going in and is sore in the injection spot that day, but man, to be pain free and play with my kids again...that is worth the $569 right now. After my 3rd injection which will occur 2nd week of February, I will be meeting with my trusted GYN and endocrinologist to discuss my options next. I have spoke with them after 2 weeks pain free and they are thrilled with the results. I will continue on this program to make sure the symptoms stay gone and then I am looking into possible surgery. Of course we pray that a miracle happens and I stay pain free once coming off the shot, without the need for going under the knife, but either way, it is in the Lord's hands, and maybe all this happened to me so that I can share with you some encouragement in your times of suffering.

i got mirena put in April 1st of 2008, considering removal. At first i bled like crazy, extremely heavy flow for 18-20 days long. They did start to lighten up after about 5 months so I'll say September is when they did. It is now November 2008, so i haven't even had it for a year yet! The periods did lighten up tremendously and last about 5-10 days, however, they are never on schedule. Along with all that i have developed uncontrollable mood swings, SHARP, TIGHT CRAMPING that feels like my uterus has a charlie horse with a rake clawing me to death and a spam sensation that comes and goes around my cervix. Sometimes my body even acts like its pregnant!! One month i was lactating, the next month i had morning sickness and nausea. Plus bloating and gas that is so uncomfortable; all the gas has left me feeling those spasms in my rectum!!! Part of me thinks this is more nerve raking then a pregnancy. i have had more then 2 scares thinking i was pregnant because the way my body was acting. The latest thing is my energy levels are low, and my schedule has changed. I tend to sleep all day and have a mental fog all night to where i am exhausted but sleeping is impossible. MIRENA IS NOT AT ALL WHAT ITS CRACKED UP TO BE LADIES!!! *******

I am a new poster & am excited to be a part of this discussion !! I feel to close to this discussion because I have been experiencing the same issues.
I too have been having major chest pain issues for almost 2 months now. I started Yasmin (much to my dismay!) about 6 months ago. I haven't taken any b.c. since I was about 19, I am now 30, I started because my periods were absolutely unbearable anymore, intense cramping, heavy flow & in incapable of work/activity for the first 2 days. My doctor always pushed b.c. on me for the pain relief. Finally I agreed. I started in February, 2008.
Almost 2 months ago (7 months into Yasmin) I was getting a bit of chest pain along the ribs/inside of the side of the breast, mainly the right & sometimes on the left. I wasn't too worried as I am a healthy eating, yoga/work-out doing, average weight, no health issues what-so-ever except for my intense period kinda gal. About a month went by with increasing chest pain & I went to the hospital (up north at my moms when I was visiting, only an hour wait to get in as apposed to the 6 here back home!). My fear was heart problems. They did blood work & (I am not sure what this is called!) they hooked me up with tons of little stickies & monitored my heart. - I mentioned to the doctor I was taking b.c. & he said it wasn't an issue, they usually pose blood clot risk....not my issue here.
They said everything was normal & because of the sensitivity of the chest pain (it is sore to the touch!) he said it was costochondiritis, the inflammation of the chest wall. So I thought that was it, I would just take the Advil the suggested 3 times a day for inflammation & it would go away. I did this for 2 weeks & nothing changed.
I was getting some shooting pains in my chest & went back to my doctor, explained my visit up north & what they concluded it was. She said that the costochondiritis has made me sensitive to acidic foods, prescribed me with previcid for a week. That didn't make any difference at all.
Here I am another month later & my chest pain feels worse, my chest still feels tender to the touch, I am short of breath going up the stairs, heart racing/palpitations, gas (burping & passing gas), some upper back ache, I am feeling helpless & beat down !!
By now I'm sure there is a bit of anxiety mixed in there, I have been so sad, scared & worried!
I went back to my doctor & she sent me for an upper G.I. to rule out acid reflux & it came back normal. I also did some blood work again (which have since came back normal) & am waiting for the results. She said she doesn't think it's costochondiritis now. I am scheduled for an abdominal ultrasound & with a cardiologist (I go tomorrow) for an EKG for my heart.
Last night my hubby & I were talking, my co-worker was really upset to hear I've still been taking the pill, she thinks it's poison. I told my guy that & we got out the information booklet from my Yasmin & there were ALL of my symptoms, there was a list of 12 & I had 8 of them !!! No vision or numbness problems but all of the chest pain/breathing issues.
I took my last pill 2 days ago (it was my last before my period) & I have no plans to start again. I am going to follow through with the scheduled appt.'s just in case but my hubby & I have our money on the pill being the cause for all of this.
1 thing that gets me is when I went to my doctors with this issue in the beginning, not once did she bring up the pill or say to stop the pill. In the booklet under all of the symptoms I've been having it says to immediately stop taking the pill. ;(
After taking my last pill I felt a bit better (it's only been a week/my menstruating week), the sharp pain on the inside/side of my breast/chest has not been as sensitive to the touch. I still have had palpitations (minor, not lasting long - to lasting up to 4 hours until I just go sleep to try to get rid of it) & sparse shooting/dull/aching pain in my chest/armpit.
YASMIN SHOULD BE BANNED !!

My sad Mirena story resembles most of yours. I had it inserted 3 months ago and my life has not been the same since. I've had female problems every since my tubes were tied approx. 8 years ago. The Dr. discovered that I had severe endometriosis and from that point forward, my periods have always been terrible (heavy flow, horrible cramping, etc.) I have been trying to get this under control since then, but with no luck. I think doctor's have a set list of things that they have to try before they will consider a hysterectomy. After several failed attempts at birth controls and Depro shots, I have "moved" down the list to the Mirena. . . which I was told would be "wonderful". After a very painful insertion, I have had the following side effects: Weight gain (approx. 25 lbs to date!!!), depression/irritability, loss of sex drive, achy joints, loss of hair (on back of head), bloating and cramping, stiff lower back (especially in mornings). The list goes on and on. . . When I first had it put in, I even had a hard time talking. I kept biting my tongue when I tried to talk. Try explaining those symptoms to your family and have them not think your crazy!!! I hate to see others suffer, but feel relieved that others feel the way I do. I am trying to make this work, but am thinking about having it removed. I told my Dr. that I would try for another couple of months, but it's not getting any better. The only positive thing is that in the past 3 1/2 months, my periods have not been heavy (however, I've only not bled for about 20 days). I just want my life back!!!

I have been on Yasmin for 4 years now and I only recently started to question if some of the things that I have been experiencing are related to this pill. After reading your comments here, I'm more convinced then ever! I am a relatively healthy 31 year right now but for over a year now I have had a terrible ongoing ache in the back of my right thigh, just above my knee. I went to a vein specialist who just wanted to inject me to reduce the vein and "hoped" that it would help resolve the pain. He said that I had reticular veins and that they can be painful but as I understand it, you can get pain in your deep veins, which can result in deep vein thrombosis and even pulmonary embolisms (very life threatening). I have also had terrible ongoing headaches that last me 3 days at least once per month. I've always suffered from migraines so I didn't necessarily connect these headaches to the pill. I have absolutely ZERO sex drive. It's like I have to force myself to do it and it fills me with anxiety to even "gear up" for it. I have vaginal dryness, which can be very frustrating during foreplay and painful during sex. I had previously always been pleased that Yasmin resolved my 10 + year battle with painful cystic back acne. I have beautiful, clear skin on my back since I started taking Yasmin. I have also experienced fairly normal periods (for me). I used to have debilitating cramps and periods so heavy that I would wear a tampon and double my pads (with wings) so that I could live through the first part of the day at work without completely breaking through and bleeding through my pants. They would last for 5 - 7 days but with the pill I have more normal periods, manageable cramps, minor bloating, and still a heavy flow but not nearly as bad as before. I have always had good cholesterol levels and low triglycerides until 4 years ago when I started the pill. Since then I have had 2 blood tests where my cholesterol has skyrocketed and my triglycerides are triple the "normal" range. I eat healthier now then ever before and I regularly exercise as well so I cannot explain my cholesterol change, nor can my doctor (after showing a food diary of mostly fruits, veggies, limited whole grains, lean meat and optimal water). He told me to "go on a low carb diet" and "stay away from "sugars". I can't explain it either, I am always thirsty. I drink almost a gallon of water a day. I have this constant craving for a beverage and dryness if I'm not consistently sipping on water. My eyes are always dry, so dry in fact that it makes me feel tired or like I just want to close them to give them a break. I just started using eye drops, which has helped. Also, I'm tired, very very tired. It's summer so my energy is better only because I force myself to go workout, which always makes me feel better. I must say though, all in all, I have some concerning symptoms that seem to be prevalent throughout the blog but I've also had some positive effects from Yasmin. My concerns and your comments however are enough to take myself off the pill (Yasmin and all others) to try and live with my natural hormones instead of the synthetic in the pill. I think the potential risks outweigh the rewards. Thank you all for sharing and helping me in my decision making process.

Hi,

The reason for me taking Femcon is a little different
from the reasons I've read on this website. My OBGYN prescribed them to me because I was experiencing some menopause symptoms. I had skipped a period and the following month it lasted more tha 15 days at an extremely heavy flow. I had been taking it for about 4 days and was just horrible.
I felt very tired, had a lot af anxiety, experienced
an anxiety attack which was just awful, I thought
I was going to die. My mouth was extremely dry and was very depressed, I would have rapid heart palpitations. The way I was instructed to take this pills was for the first 3 days take 4 at a time, then for the next three days take 3 at a time, then 2 and then 1.
I would rather put up with the heavy flow than take
this pills. I'm 48 years old extremely healthy and for the first time in my life I thought I was going to die. I quit after the first day of being on the
3 pill session. I have an appointment with my OBGYN on Monday, I will let him know that I will not take a pill that makes me feel the way I felt with this pill.

I have had all three of my Gardasil shots, starting in September 2007, November 2007 and then February 2008. I felt slightly ill after each one, came down with what felt like the flu but went away after a couple of days. My periods changed completely however. I'm 24 and have regular, monthly menstruation since I was 10, without a change in flow or length of the period. Since taking the vaccination, I had terrible cramps, delayed periods, and very heavy flow for the six months and a few months after that. Since then, my period has become very light and irregular and I have started growing abnormally dark facial hair as well increased hair growth overall (hirsutism). My skin has become very thin and breaks and bruises easily, and I have developed adult acne which I never had as a teenager. I don't have PCOS so I'm not sure if the two are linked, but nothing else has changed in my lifestyle over the past year so please do let me know if you have experienced anything similar.

Has anyone had extreme heavy bleeding/clots after having the Mirena removed? This is day 3. The last time I had such heavy bleeding I had just had my son. When do you start to worry about the bleeding?

I was on Yasmin for over 4 years with no problems. It actually helped me lose weight, lessen my HEAVY flow and decrease my cramps. I originally started it for the fact that my periods usually lasted over a week. I loved this pill. At my last exam, my gyno prescribed Yaz. I didn't notice much of a difference, though I still loved Yasmin and my doc gave me the option of going back at any time. After reading this forum, I notice that maybe my headaches that I never get I had a lot of after starting. This side effect did not last long, maybe two months. I had a positive experience. Everyone's body reacts differently, so i'd say give it thre months and see how you do.

During my first go at Loestrin 24 everything was fine other than the fact of me not getting a period for 5 months. That freaked me out so I quit taking them, Went back to the doctor and she reassured me that I was just one of the few lucky ones. So I got back on the pill and it has been about 2 months and having lots of issues this time. Now I am bleeding every time I have sexual intercourse with my husband. Not spotting a heavy flow for the entire next day. Also I have gained 5lbs in 2 months might I ad I lost 8 in the 2 months being off the pill..

Well I have been on Jolessa for a little more than a year now. When I started it it was ok then it got so much worse and well I stopped taking it because I got sick and couldn't keep it down in my stomach then when I started taking it again I had my period the whole 3 month cycle when I asked my doctor he said that it was ok because it wasn't a heavy flow but I still felt uncommon then my period finally stopped and I was left with a very weird discharge it was almost snot like. It was gooey and brown almost looked like the color of dried up blood if any one else has experienced this I would like to hear what you did to help it

I just had my first child almost 3 months ago, and I wanted to get on Yaz because I heard that helped with depression and heavy periods, which I experienced before I had my baby. My Dr said that I couldn't go on Yaz because I was breastfeeding, but that Mirena helped with those things and lasted for five years, and explained the other conveniences of it. So I had it put in at the end of November. I took 800 mg of ibuprofen on the advice of the doctor before I went in, and the insertion was hardly painful at all. I experienced some light cramping for about 10 minutes, and then some stronger cramping that night after the pain relievers had worn off. I had light spotting for a week and then my period started, a full blown period, heavy flow and mood swings, not quite as bad cramping as usual, but enough to make me nauseous once or twice. Today is the 10th day of my period. This morning I woke suddenly with a severe pain in my lower right abdomen, that pierced through to my back and radiated down my thigh and leg. I immediately took 5 ibuprofen (more than I took before the insertion), and the pain wore off after approx. 30 minutes, (I wasn't exactly watching the clock, I was busy writhing in pain on the bed and crying). I have also had several mood swings in the last few weeks but I thought it had to do with my fiance and the baby, we have been fighting anyway. So later when I got up I searched the Internet for side effects I found this site and read all of the posts, and now I am frightened that I will develop more side effects. I just hope I don't start imagining things, the mind is very powerful. Let's all wish each other luck with this. I am starting to think maybe I should get this thing removed and just use the pill or condoms. Good luck to us all.

Well I started a brown discharge Last Thursday and had called my doctor to schedule my appointment for the following day to receive my shot. The weird thing was I started on my 24th day, when I always seem to start on my 35th day. That evening my husband and I had sex, normally it helps me start the heavy flow, but this time there was nothing. I went to the doctor bright eyed and bushy-tailed that morning and explained the situation. Not even two weeks before I had come in to talk about my options I was 10lbs lighter. She found it kind of odd that I gained that much weight and she thought I might be pregnant, but the pee test came back negative. So, she decided to give me the shot anyway. Well, it has been 5 days now and no spotting and definitely no flow. Just heavy discharge which I was having before the shot and bloated too. I had breast tenderness before I received the Depo-Shot, but of course it has increased sense than. I have had more back pain after sitting for long periods. I feel nauseated, but get relief after eating a small meal. Thirsty all the time and always tired. I can't say I am depressed, because I have been on Paxil and Hydroxyz for the past three months. There is a possibility I could be pregnant, because I am married to a man who refuses to wear condoms. With any medication comes risks, and at this time in my life I believe I am truly blessed to have a beautiful healthy baby boy and don't need another. I do say if God wants me to have another one he will make it happen. Even though I am in this situation, with all these side effects, there is nothing I can do about it now. Whats done is done, there is no reversing it. With any chemical you put in your body you take the risk of some side effect good or bad. We just always hope for the good. So I guess basically I am saying that yes I have some side effects, but what drug doesn't give you some kind of side effect. It seems a lot of people are complaining about weight gain. I can tell you most of it is water weight, you can take care of it with an herbal diuretic and if you want to go on a diet where you eat every two to three hours healthy I would recommend ****** It truly works, trust me I know. Good Luck everyone and Blessings to All.

I was on Yasmin for 4 months. I HATED IT!!! What is the point of being on birth contraol if you never are able to have sex? I was constantly bleeding after the 1st month. It was as if I had my period for 3 striaght months - every single day. And not just spotting, heavy flow. I was depressed, miserable and in so much pain. I had constant cramps and back pain. I went to the ER 2 times because of this and I was told the 1st time that it was just my body's way of getting used to a different pill. After I was on it for 3 months, I went to the ER a second time because I was in so much pain and bleeding so heavily, that I could not get out of bed. I actually had to wear Depends, pads were not nearly enough! The dr at the ER the 2nd time told me that he has had a ton of cases with girls on Yasmin with the same problem and to stop taking it immediatly. About 3 or 4 days after I stopped taking it, everything was back to normal - Thank God! I was extremely hesitant to try another pill after that, but I decided to give Ortho Tri Cyclin Lo a chance and I love it. No random bleeding, no cramps and my periods are always light. Yasmin should be taken off of the market. I have a bunch of friends who tried it and went through the same problems I did.

So, I have been bleeding on myself since I started my NR which has only been 8 days now. So I have been bleeding on myself for 8 days straight, heavy flow. My periods only last for 4-5 days.

Besides that, I am in a terrible DEPRESSIVE state. It was so bad one day that I called my own mother up and told her please kill me, I feel so worthless.

The first day I used NR, I had to leave my BIOL 101 class because I just started feeling sad, extremely sad and started crying for no apparent reason.

At 4:00 AM I started having these horrible pains in my abdomen and pelvic area which caused me to be on the toilet from 4 in the morning until 5:30-6 oclock. I had the runs and then I didnt and then I did. The SHARP PAINS felt so BAD, I almost threw up. My own son started CRYING because he HEARD ME IN SO MUCH PAIN. While i was on the toilet, I actually thought I was dying and i told myself, "OH GOD, I THINK I AM GOING TO HAVE TO GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM."

Another problem is that I have this raging hunger now and I have gained a significant amount of weight. JUST IN 8 DAYS. My own father told me today that its amazing how last week I was skinny and now this week everyone can see my stomach hanging over my own pants now. THIS IS NOT A LIE.

I was on the DEPO shot and it made 75% of MY HAIR FELL OUT and I BLEED THE WHOLE 3 MONTHS I was on it. 3 days before I was suppose to get the next shot, I GOT PREGNANT.

I am not trying to go through a replay of the depo shot with this NUVARING at all.

And its funny because since I have read these post, women have talked about no SEX DRIVE.

I use to be a horny little bugger with my boyfriend and since I have inserted this ring, SEX has not even CROSSED my mind AT ALL. I sleep like a log nowadays too. Yesterday, I came home from school and fell asleep on the couch at 12:30 pm only to wake at 6:30 p.m. My son's daycare was calling and calling me b.c the daycare closes at 6:30 p.m.

I am so glad I FOUND THIS SITE, so now I KNOW why I have had such a DEPRESSIVE OUT OF CONTROL 8 DAYS!

Its amazing what women have to go through....
