Wow! I must be the latest in a long line of Lipitor users and apparently pain sufferers. I have been on Lipitor for over a year. I am 56 years old, active and healthy (thank God). Around November 2008, I noticed a "twinge" in my left hip while sleeping. This has gotten progressively worse over the months and I thought it was due to arthritis (which runs in my family). But after reading these blogs, I am not so sure. If anyone has anything definitive regarding this, ie: tests, studies, etc., I would really appreciate a point in the right direction for more information. I was thinking (until today) that I was headed for hip surgery or something equally drastic. Now that I have a clue that it may be the Lipitor, I want to investigate further and then, if necessary, change to another medication that won't break me down like this. My heart goes out to anyone that has suffered through hip pain. It is a miserable, painful condition that saps your energy and your desire to even move sometimes. I appreciate any help you can offer. God bless all of you. - L. B. ******

I have been on BP medication about 4 years now. I was on Avalide and recently switched to Lisinopril HCTZ. About 3 years ago I had hip surgery. The evening of the surgery my back was hot and beet red, the next morning the rest of my body looked like I lay in the hot sun and was very burned. The docs and I felt it was pain killer. Last year I had another surgery, indicating I was allergic to pain meds, codiene, morphine, percocet, all of which I had with the firat surgery. Again, the same reaction. Last week I had another surgery, no pain meds as indicated, again, same burn reaction. I peel horribly, my face swells, around my eyes swell, I was a mess. I wonder if the BP meds caused it. No one said to d/c them as they did the supplements of multi-vit, omega 3 fish oil, aspirin. Prior to being on BP meds, have had several other surgeries with no reactions. I feel it is the BP med. causing this. Anyone have any such reactions? HELP.

I never took the drug but I do know someone very close to me who did, my grandmother. Celebrex ended up killing her a week and a half after being on it. My grandmother was perfectly healthy except for the fact that she needed hip surgery. So I advise you to not to use it. Please it was hard enough for me to see my grandmother, Giselle Bredesen go through the pain for it let alone know more people can be harmed from it. I just want to warn people about the terrible effects of the horrible medication.

I am on prednisone frequently for respiratory infections as I have a chronic lung condition. I was just hospitalized for a week and on 80 mg per day IV. I have tapered by 5 mg every 3rd day. I have a rash in my hairline and actually in my hair. I have blurry vision, insomnia, cravings for food, weight gain, puffy face, swollen stomach, and pain so bad in my left hip joint that I can hardly bear weight.
-- By cynthe | Reply | Private Message meIn Aug, 2008, I had my right hip replaced from avascular necrosis caused by steroid use for my lung condition. I am worried that AVN is now also in my left hip. The steroids take the swelling down in my lungs so I can breathe, however they are destroying my bones. I am so scared of another hip surgery. I realize that I need to be thankful that my joints can be replaced, but it is a horrible side effect of this drug.
