I'm 48 and got a Mirena put in last January at the suggestion of my doctor. I'd been having menstrual migraines and we thought that a steady dose of hormones might help with the dips and prevent my headaches. Well, it has helped some, as the headaches don't come every month anymore, however, I do still get them, so it hasn't really done what we hoped. Add to that my (growing!) list of symptoms and something has to be done. I am very active. I do Taekwondo 4x a week and was working out 5x a week this summer in preparation for my black belt test. You would think that I'd lose weight with the workouts I've done for the past 10 months, but no, my weight has increased over 10lbs! And it's not muscle, either: My breasts, waist, hips and thighs have all increased. I feel bloated, tired to the point of exhaustion even after 8 hours of sleep, and all of my joints are achy. The brain-fog has gotten so bad that I've had to go back on ADD meds to try to maintain my focus at work. I'd been doing my workouts for 3 years prior to getting the Mirena, and I never felt tired the way I feel it now! I'm seeing my doctor next month and this thing is out of here!

I have been on Simvastatin for about 4 months now. For the past 2 months, I have been having unexplained muscle/joint pain and tightness in my hips and thighs. I couldn't figure out what I'd done but thought it was just one of those things (slept wrong, stepped wrong, etc.). I've been working with a foam roller to get the knots out, even getting up in the middle of the night to work on the roller because it hurt so much. That helped some. Took Motrin but that didn't work at all! Added Omega 3 fish oil and glucosamine and that did help a little. Have been limping for 2 months now and it finally occurred to me, "I wonder if it's the Simvastatin?" I already knew I was sensitive to chemicals like sodium lauryl sulfate, so everything I see written here makes sense to me. I emailed my MD today and she said to stay off it for 3 weeks and see if I see any improvement, plus get blood work. I sure hope I don't have any muscle damage. Thank all of you for posting your experiences

I started the Nuvaring 3 1/2 weeks ago. Within the first week and a half I broke out in a horrible rash on my hips and thighs. My doctor said that it is not a side effect of the ring but I have never had sensitive skin or been allergic to anything. She did prescribe me a topical to apply twice daily. By the end of the second week the rash has spread to everywhere except my face, hands and feet. On my chest it looks almost like a heat rash but everywhere else is painful red bumps. As a birth control it worked because my boyfriend would not go anywhere near me. I finally took it out middle through the 3rd week. It has almost been a full week since taking it out and the itching is completely gone and the rash is clearing up. I just have horrible scabbing from the rash and of course I have the longest period ever because I pulled it out. I WILL NEVER USE THE NUVARING AGAIN!!

I guess as a birth control it is working because my boyfriend will not go anywhere near me. Has anyone else had this problem and know how to treat it. I have made my way through Benadryl creams, the medicated cream prescribed to me, oatmeal baths. Please help me!!! I am so irritable and crabby but I am sure it is because I have not slept in two weeks because I cannot stop scratching myself.

My MD put me on Pravachol in August due to my elevated cholesterol, and the sudden, premature death of my beloved brother from a heart attack caused by his high cholesterol. I'm a very active, busy, 54 year old full time paramedic. So I'm no dummy in the ways of meds and health care. After being on this stuff for a couple of months I noticed that I was having a lot of unexplained pain in my lower back and legs. At first I attributed it to my job, which involves a lot of heavy lifting. But it kept getting worse, to the point of having great difficulty walking because of severe pain in both hip joints.I felt like I was an 80 year old woman. I couldn't even stand to use an elliptical machine or swim at my fitness center. I was also extremely depressed, lethargic, and having heart palpitations. I had pain in my shoulders, neck, back, kidneys, hips, and thighs. I stopped taking it 3 days ago, and have already noticed improvement. I think I'll try to lower my cholesterol with diet, weight loss, and exercise instead.

I have been on NR since July 18 of this year. I was diagnosed with PCOS and Insulin Resistance. I am also on Byetta. My experience with NR has not been good. First of all I was skeptical about constantly having a foreign object in my body especially such a sensitive area. Symptom 1, decreased sexual desire! Symptom 2, burning sensations down there. Then itching, and a horrible discharge and smell!! At this point I kept thinking how much worse can it get. Well it did, I should be loosing weight from the medication finally regulating my insulin levels, after all I work out 5 times a week and follow a healthy eating plan. My lower tummy is swollen as well as my hips and thighs. Not to mention I have pains in my hips, like they need a massage. On top of this all I have an increased resting pulse rate and blood pressure as well as tighten feelings in my chest. I really feel like this birth control is not safe for me. I was previously on yasmine, and loved it. My endo suggested NR due to the PCOS and IR they feel like it works best with Byetta! WRONG!!! I am waiting for the DR to return my call I am requesting AGAIN that my BC be changed.

I experienced nasty muscle aches in my back, hips and thighs after 4 doses of Singulair for allergy relief. My doctor's office had only samples of children's chewables and instructed me to double the dose, which would still be less than the adult dose.
I filled an RX for the adult dosage, but will not be using it.

The drug information service at my area college of pharmacy said "After extensive research, we have found only three documentations of Singulair causing muscle and joint pain. This is a rare side effect, but can happen and may explain your symptoms."

Have taken Fosomax for almost 2 years due to "some thinning" in hip and family history (mother has osteoporosis and is on Fosomax). In past 6 months to a year, have started experiencing unexplained bruising on hips and thighs and buttocks (when I know I haven't bumped into anything), pain in my knees, hips, right wrist, hand and elbow (the most severe), right shoulder, and the bottom of my feet, difficulty and pain standing and walking after getting out of bed or out of a chair, very stiff and painful knees after bending or squatting, sleep disturbance, acid reflux, occasional sudden dizzy spells for no apparent reason, ongoing weight gain especially in upper and lower abdomen, fatigue, shortness of breath (which I thought was due to the extra fat around my middle, but who knows?). I am only 53 and take no other prescription medicines, and am otherwise healthy. I have my annual physical in a few days and am stopping the Fosomax to see if the pain and other symptoms subside.

I have now been off Lipitor for 3 weeks and am feeling less fatigue and my hips and thighs are not hurting as much. Still pain when walking up stairs. I ask my General Practioner for a CPK test (muscle test). My Cardiologist did not agree with me that Lipitor was causing my hip and thigh pain and weakness. Sure enough the test came back slightly elevated. Because of a heart attack, my doctor wanted me on a statin drug. I tried 2 with the same results. My liver test always came back good so that is all He cared about. Now I have some muscle wasting. I'm not sure if that can be corrected but whatever I will never take Lipitor again.

I have been off lipitor for about a week and am beginning to feel less pain in hips and thighs. My CPK test came back a little elevated so will remain off the lipitor for the 30 days and then begin trying another cholesterol lowering treatment (no statins). Due to a heart attack the doctor wants the colesterol to be in the lower range. I feel less fatigue since going off the lipitor and not as weak in my legs. It is still too soon to know if lipitor has been the cause.

I have been on 10 mg of Lipitor for 2 years and on 5mg for a year. The dosage was reduced because of leg cramps. The past few months I have had bursitis in hips and thighs and am in pain all the time. It seems to be getting worse. Can such a low dose cause this. I have taken myself off. How long does it take for the pain to subside, if ever?

Racing heart, moody...
But worst of all is the WEIGHT GAIN! I have gained subtantial amounts of weight in my stomach/hips and thighs.

The local news here did a story on this "miracle drug" and how it is being prescribed for weight loss! (????????????)

Please, please, please tell me others have gained weight. I eat right and work out - and just had my body fat tested at the gym. It skyrocketed! I am done! I have been on this pill for 6 mos. Back to good ol' Ortho Tri Cyclen

A a year and a half after taking Levaquin for only 4 days, I still have lots of pain in my hips and thighs. It is difficult to stand up and walk without leaning on someone or something. I have constant ringing in my ears and my eyesight has deteriorated rapidly. My doctor does not believe that the Levaquin caused these problems but they began to happen almost immediately after taking the first pill. Before that I was a very healthy person with lots of energy.

I have been taking Yasmin for 4 months now. I have noticed at first that I stayed fit and maybe even lost some weight. I workout just about every day and I eat right. Howeveer here lately in the 4th month and end of the third, I began to gain weight in my hips and thighs. I am really bothered by this. especially because I work out every day and eat right. If anyone knows of a birth control that is a natural alturnative please let me know at siennamh@yahoo.com- Thanks
