Just want to survey everyone and ask for responses for the following 3 questions:
1. how long did you keep your Mirena and if you no longer have it, why did you have it removed?
2. how many of you had your thyroid checked? who's came back abnormal? what were the levels?
(I'm a medical student doing research on this one since I believe the levonorgestrel affects our thyroid hormone. My TSH was elevated to 5.2 which is considered "subclinical HYPOthyroidism". This was mid cycle when my natural progesterone AND synthetic progestin were cumulatively high. When I had it rechecked 6 weeks later (around my period when any natural progesterone level is gone) it was normalized at 1.5. So I think that the P+P screws up our thyroid and can throw us into a high TSH and "hypothyroid state". The opposite effect may be true during menstruation and we can become HYPERthyroid for a few days... hence the really bad anxiety?!)
3. where is everyone from? perhaps we can have support group meetings?

im a twenty four year old student on paxil since i was fourteen.
coming off this medication is nearly impossible, i have tried at least ten times. The reason i have decided to come off it for good is because of memory loss. I can spend up to one hundred hours studying for a test and still only get about seventy percent.
Another reason i have decided to come off paxil is tooth decay. I now have a cavity in every single tooth and have lost three teeth due to paxil.
A common side effect of paxil is dry mouth. With out salivia in your mouth, it becomes difficult for your mouth to wash away bacteria, leaving you with tooth decay.
Im coming off slow, cutting up pieces of paxil to take each night, about two milligrams less per night. Ive been all the way up to sixty milligrams and im now down to twenty and hopefully will be free and clear within a few months. This is not a medication you can come off by cold turkey. you must cut it down very slowly

Lisinopril causes burning and tingling sensations in your feet (peripheral neuropathy). The neurologist insists that the Lisinopril simply "unmasked" a hidden glucose problem. My primary physician does not understand what that means. I have stopped taking the drug. It has been over a year and the side effects remain. I tried 10 sessions of acupuncture which seemed to alleviate some of the pain & discomfort in my heels and middle of the feet. I have started a treatment of folic acid, B1 & B12. I also recommend diet & exercise. I was prescribed gapapentin by the neurologist; it alleviates the side effects but does "cure" it.

This is a follow-up to my posting on October 10th regarding my 57 year old husband who began taking Lisinopril in March of 2007. He was NEVER on any other medication prior to taking this drug. He suffered Depression, loss of memory, lack of concentration, can't focus and struggled with small task. We have recently had an MRI done and his brain has shrunk. Deadfred1 replied to my posting and he is a 36 year old male who has been on Lisinopril for 5 years. He has the same side effects as my husband. He had a recent MRI and his brain has shrunk!!! We visited a Neurologist with his MRI results for a second opinion and he is ordering more tests because "it appears to be indictive of Alzeheimers" with the area of the brain that has shrunk. How can this be??? This was a healthy, 57 year old NEVER on a drug in his life and within months of taking this, he is in Depression and having memory issues. Isn't anyone connecting any symptoms here??? Any Doctors out there with an "open mind"? This medication is was developed from the venom of a poisonous Brazilian snake!!! Hello...it's more like a slow death with Arsenic!!! My mother-in-law has been on this drug for years and years and years. She now sits with dementia in an Alzeheimers unit. Is anybody out there listening? Alzeheimers is becoming an epidemic in this country. Have we ever thought the medications we are taking is creating this devastating disease? Millions of people take Ace Inhibitors, millions of people have Alzeheimers. They are getting younger and younger according to the Neurologist. Why, because younger and younger people are being put on Blood pressure medications from poisonous snakes. Are there any open minded Dr.s out there that can "step outside the box"...don't just "think outside the box"...."step out for goodness sake" and start paying closer attention to the symptoms people are having. I am convinced there is a definite connection to my husbands side effects and this drug. Get off people. Get off.

I was on synthroid for 10 years after getting treated with Radio Active Iodine. As the years went by my period was all all over the place. They were heavy the first three days and lasted 9 days or more days. I spotted all the way through the month. Other times I was so late that I thought I was pregnant. I had PMS two weeks before I started and was irritable. I had low grade depression. I had anxiety and heart palpitations. My skin was dry and rough. I went to the doctor and had my blood test. He checked for TSH and T4 and T3 levels. He insisted they were normal and that something else is wrong wth me (he wanted to give me sleeping pills, anxiety pills, depression pills) and that it had nothing to do with my thyroid. He sent me to an endo to get a second opinion and he said my levels were normal too. I ended up going to a holistic doctor (paid over 1000 dollars for two visits plus meds) that checked under my feet (yellow) and my reflexes. She checked my reverse T3 and my free T3 and T4. It turns out that my body was not converting T4 to T3 the way they said synthroid (T4 only med) should. My diagnosis was hypothyroid. I was put on Armour and felt the difference in my skin. It was softer and moist! My teeth felt strong compared to before I felt like my teeth were getting loose. My stamina last longer and can run on the treadmil 45 min at six miles per hour. I am less nervous and my low grade depression seems to be lifting. My days are brighter and less anxious. My hair is falling less. I know I have a long way to recovery because my Adrenal glands need some healing and I am still being optimized. I might still need to be raised on the dose that I am in. I will never go back to synthroid! My period has improved drastically as soon as I started on Armour! I am down to 4 days of period and less heavy. I still spot on day 5 and 7 but it is nothing compared to what I went through when I was on synthroid (T4 med only). My gynecologist wanted to burn my uterus to control the menstrual flow. He said that he could also pull it out. It seems like main stream doctors are more interested in treating the symptoms than looking to see what is the problem that is causing the symptoms.

I am a 38 year old female, not overweight but hbp runs on my dad's side of the family unfortunately! I was prescribed Diovan by my doctor who had a list of my allergies. So, i went to get it at walgreens and luckily they have my allergies also because this drug is a sulfa drug and I am highly allergic and they caught it before i took any. You would think my doctor would have done a better job as I could have gotten really sick. YOU NEED TO BE YOUR OWN ADVOCATE WITH THESE DRUGS DOCTORS ARE PRESCRIBING, YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT! At that time my doctor then called in LISINOPRIL. I just got off of being on it for 10 months with horrible, horrible side effects.
If your doctor has prescribed LISINOPRIL for you, please look the drug up on this site before taking - WARNING! There are 1,800 entries from people who have/had debilitating symptoms. I have now chosen to be off of HBP meds for a while and monitor it 3 times a day and see if i still need to be on it. After what i have been through, i would rather run around the block 10 x's a night and change everything I eat and drink and lose weight before I would consider another pill!

I suddenly had high blood pressure. I was put on a heart monitor for 21 days because I was experiencing frequent palpitations. I was given 25 mg Metoprolol ER the genic for Toprol XL on June 6, 2008. I had the usual symptoms extreme fatigue, headache, constipation, swelling, weight gain for the first month. I am 59 yrs. old.
The second month I started to have horrible nightmares, and headaches that would not go away. On Aug.12 while driving home I started to hear voices, had blurred vision and hallucinations. I was driving fast and screaming to make the voices stop.. I ended up in a parking lot. I was crying and for a minute I had a bit of reality. I called the cardiologist office and told the nurse what was going on. She said to immediately stop the meds because I was having a rare serious side effect. I sat crying for awhile and was able to call a friend to pick me up. I stayed at home for 4 days. The entire time my hands shook and my headache was horrible. It was one week before I was able to function properly.
I called my pharmacist and she told me that this drug affects the central nervous system. 2 % of 100,000 people have this side effect. I told her that it was not written on my paper with the prescription. She said that because it is so rare they do not have put it on. She printed out the side effects for me from her web site. A site that is only accessible to pharmacists or Dr.'s. My Dr. wants me to try Cardizeim now and I do not want to because I am afraid. I told him that the BP was down to normal but he still wanted to because of the palpitations. I was given the option of the Cardiziem or seeing and Electrical Man at the Cardiology office. As of yet I have not taken the Cardiziem. This is the first time I have read this web site and I hope that this information may help someone. I finally feel good again except for the rapid heart beat and glad to be alive.

To Kim 123-
Sounds like you have alot more trouble that could not possibly all be linked to the Yasmin. Possible to get in to see a professional psychiatrist or counselor or a holistic doctor? Someone you can talk to. Alot of your symptoms sound quite serious.
That's my recommendation. While this may seem like a helpful forum, it is really important for you to get professional help.

I too had the evelids that would NOT stay open ...this is fun while trying to drive to your job then trying to actually work while slurring your speech while not being able to see your computer screen....oh and then having to pee every 5 minutes was also very productive for my job. It s also fabulous to have the stupid psych doc just prescribe this shit like candy and not mention or care to ask you about your family history of diabetes or irregular heart beats...Definitely NOT worth the hassle. These drugs make your symtoms and anxiety and insomnia worse than before...so the doctors can give you more drugsand then try to act like you are crazy....hell they are crazy for thinking I am going to fall for this shit anymore. I am bipolar but going to go to a holistic doctor and fix my diet and vitamin intake and tell all the money grubbing condesceding psychiatrists to kiss my ass!!!

I am a 57 yr. old active woman. I have been on Zocor for less than one year. My cholesterol levels went down right away and I had no side effects for several months. After a while I started having joint and muscle pain. I have also developed hypothyroidism and cataracts. I had to stop going to the gym because I could hardly lift the machines even without adding the weights! Because I stopped exercising my numbers have gone up the last two times. Well I got tired of hearing the doc. say that my liver and kidney functions are good and that my muscle test is negative. I know how I feel and I wan to thank you all for this site and for helping me realize that I am not crazy. My eyes were full of tears when I saw my own symptoms in some of your lines. I decided to find a holistic doctor who is working with me. First of all he said that my numbers were not that high and second he felt that the dosage I was taking (40 mg) was too hefty. I am happy to say that I stopped taking Zocor yesterday and I am hoping that with a very good diet, fresh veggie juices, supplements and walking on the treadmill 45 minutes every other day I will get my numbers down. It scares me to think that Zocor makes your muscles weak and your heart is a muscle. What was I thinking? Good luck to all of you. We can do this. All it takes is education and determination.
Blessings to all, Isa

UPDATE from Calybo ! ! ! ! !!!!!!!
-- By calybo | Reply | Private Message meThe post below this (or a couple below ) is one that I added to this site almost a year ago!
After having Mirena removed in OCT. 08' it has been a very long uphill battle reclaiming my health. I feel I am now 90% better. I still experience some of the symptoms - just much, much, much milder than they were at first. I feel like Mirena has taken nearly a year away from my life! I've had to focus so hard on my health that I feel everything else has been put on hold. I just feel so disappointed in conventional medicine and pharmaceuticals for allowing this to be sold to women without doing more studies and not adding more warnings on adverse affects. it wasn't until I went to see a holistic doctor that I really started to make progress.
