Reading your comments has really put my mind at easy. I'm 23 and on day 4 of my third pack. My first month I got a regular period, but I didn't get a period during my second month on the pill (which means that I am a little over a week late right now). In the past I have been on Ortho Tri Cyclen and Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo, and my period has always been on time. And in the 10 years that I've been having a period, it occasionally been early, but never late, and I have never once missed a period.
I've spend the last couple days terrified that I was pregnant (even though I have consistently been taking my pill at the same time every day), but this forum makes me feel a lot better. I think that I will still go out and take a home pregnancy test to be on the safe side, but hopefully my missed period is just my body's reaction to Loestrin.
I will give my body a couple more months to adjust to the pill, but if irregular, late or missed periods continue I am definitely going to switch birth control pills. It is not worth the anxiety of thinking I might be pregnant.
On the bright side, I haven't experienced any of the other side effects that you guys are mentioning. This pill has helped with my cramps, and I haven't experienced any change at all in my moodiness, energy level, acne, or weight.

I had my mirena place in October 2008. I had no symptoms at first, but about 3 months ago that all changed. I'm losing my hair, severe abdominal cramping, fluttering (like being pregnant), severe lower back pain, dizziness, headache constantly at least once a day. I also had regular periods up until last month, when it simply never came. I freaked thinking I was pregnant I had all symptoms (tender breast, missed period, frequent urination, and nausea). So I called my doctor and demanded he order a blood test because with my son the home pregnancy test did not show positive until I was 3 months pregnant. Of course the test came back negative, but I swear I am pregnant, all the symptoms I had with my son I am having now. I know that I'm not but these are crazy side effects from the mirena..Also I didn't know until I read on here that the cyst are a side effect I have one on my right hand that just appeared out of no where about 3 months ago as well..It hurts just to type :)....In the end I will not have the mirena removed, the benefits surely out weigh the risks. Good luck to everyone with the mirena!

I have been taking Loestrin 24 for almost a year and a half now. At first the pill seemed like a godsend because it offered me shorter periods and more time in between period. However, I have recently become sexually active with my boyfriend and the pill seems to have turned on me completely. In May, I experienced an alarmingly light period with barely any bleeding and almost non-existent cramps. I attributed it to stress at first, but took a home pregnancy test just to be certain. Thankfully, the test came back negative so I put it out of my mine for awhile.
The following month I yet again experience a period that was barely the equivalent of spotting. Alarmed, I went to see my gyno. She told me that barely to no bleeding is completely normal with Loestrin 24, which is something that she failed to tell me of before I began it.
Tonight is my second night of iron pills in my pack and I have yet to bleed at all. On top of that, this entire month I have been experiencing night sweats, headaches, abnormal weight gain, and extreme irritability towards my loved ones. I can barely even stand to talk to my boyfriend on the phone regardless of the fact that I know I love him very much.
Should I stop taking them? Is there any suggestions for better pills?

In march Of .09 I had the mirena Inserted, It hurt Like nothing I have experienced. "I had a c-section when My daughter was born", I loved it I had some cramping some nausea here and their right around when i was suppose to start my period. This past month I started to feel nauseous and had a feeling like I might be and pregnant, i went to go get a home pregnancy test and it cam out positive. Later that week I went swimming with my daughter came home and started to experience some heavy cramping that wrapped around my back, I was determined to go to the er and have it removed and get tested to make sure that I'm am are Im not. the test came back negative and the doctor refused to take it out... errr.
So in the next week are 2 my symptoms get worse to the point were I can not bare it, I was constantly nauseous and had horrible cramping. and my period wasn't due for some time, I even noticed My blood pressure rising when i was in a confrontation with another lady. and had to walk away; Just this Monday I had it removed which I didn't hurt when the doc pulled it. humm.
I felt the symptoms almost vanished until a couple of days later when I started to feel nauseous again, Hopefully I will feel a 100% percent better here soon. I do not recommend the mirena for anyone

Late last year my husband and I got pregnant while I was taking birth control. After much discussion we decided to terminate the pregnancy (you can judge if you need to, that's ok but it was our own personal decision) because we had decided long ago to not have children. So, while he is working up the courage to get a vasectomy I decided to get the Mirena. That was 2 months ago and over the past two months the emotional symptoms have crept up on me gradually, but the physical ones have been there since day one. I haven't had a period at all--which is actually what led me to this little site, I was trying to find out if that was normal because I thought maybe I should have had some semblance of a period by now because the doctor said so and then I discover all these other things that are happening to me that are also happening to other people because of the Mirena. Anyway, I spotted off and on for six weeks straight and then for the past 2 weeks--nothing. Every day I get up and take 2 Alleve and hope they get rid of the cramps that feel like they are about to knock me down. Aside from that, for the past 3 weeks emotionally and physically I have felt like I did when I was pregnant. And when I was pregnant it was not pretty. Apparently, I'm one of these people that pregnancy does not sit well with (which furthers my position that pregnancy and children are not for me). My mood is horrible--I hate absolutely everything and absolutely everything gets on my nerves. I cry at the drop of a hat and forget about sex. I don't even know what that is anymore. It is so similar to my brief pregnancy that I actually bought a home pregnancy test last week because I was convinced I was pregnant. I figured if I got pregnant on birth control (and yes, I took them religiously for 14 years never missing a pill) why not Mirena, but fortunately the test was negative. After reading what everyone has to say I definitely want this thing out ASAP. The hubby has an appointment with his PCP next week and I think he will definitely be talking vasectomy options. Oh, by the way just to be clear I have asked to have my tubes tied several times since I was 23 and no one will do it because I am "too young and you might change your mind." I'm now 32, I've always known I don't want kids and I'm not changing my mind. I guess for me, my horror story is that the medical community let me down and refused to do what I asked so that I became pregnant and ultimately had an abortion--there, I said the dirty word. I even thought that maybe just maybe that after I terminated an accidental pregnancy someone might see that I wasn't going to change my mind and do the tubal, but no instead I get offered the Mirena. Thanks to everyone who has shared, it has helped a lot. Maybe I can stop taking pregnancy tests now. Good luck to everyone who still has it and to those that are thinking of getting it.

I gained 10 pounds in the first month I was on Femcon. I have worked out for 30 minutes to an hour every day in the second month, with no results. I have always weighed around 120. Now at 130 I feel fat and uncomfortable, and my clothes are too tight. I feel bloated every day, and my stomach even looks bloated. My kids asked me if I was pregnant!!! My breasts have become so large and sore that I feel as if I am 7 months pregnant. Not to mention the embarrassment of having people stare at my chest - I started at 34DD so the sudden explosion of growth is definitely noticeable. I get nauseous almost every day and find it difficult to eat. In fact, I feel so much like I am pregnant that I actually took a home pregnancy test, which of course was negative. In a nutshell, I am miserable. I would not recommend this pill to anyone.

DO NOT TAKE AS A BIRTH CONTROL PILL!!! THE DOSE IS NOT ENOUGH TO PREVENT PREGNANCY. WORST SIDE EFFECTS OF ANY PILL I,VE BEEN ON. IT IS NOT A GENERIC OF ANY OTHER PILL. NOR IS IT MEANT TO BE A BCP. IF YOU WERE SWITCHED TO THIS BY YOUR PHARMACY (IN MY CASE WALGREENS) GO TO YOUR DOCTOR ASAP TO SWITCH TO SOMETHING ELSE. AND REPORT THE PHARMACY. MY DOCTOR TOLD ME THAT THIS PILL IS BASICALLY AN "OLD LADY HORMONE PILL". IT IS AGAINST THE LAW FOR A PHARMACY TO SWITCH YOUR MEDICINE EVEN MORE SO WHEN IT IS SWITCHED TO SOMETHING OTHER THAN WHAT YOU WERE TAKING IT FOR.

Okay soo... I have said before that I liked it... well my mind might be changing. I had a bladder infection last month and after using antibiotics to get rid of it got a yeast infection which is not abnormal, when I use antibiotics I normally get a yeast infection. Well this month around the same time I got a slight yeast infection. I have also had breast tenderness the last week or so, I had a weird discharge on saturday but it only lasted one day and I was very emotional last week. So... here is my dilemma is this because of the ring or am I pregnant? (we did have sex while I was on antibiotics which does counter-act birth controll) I took a in home pregnancy test two weeks ago and it came up negative. But I had a friend who was on birth control and her in home tests came up negative when she was pregnant(with twins even). Can anyone help me out here, let me know what you guys think? Or have any of you had negative pregnancy tests on the ring and actually been pregnant? Or has anyone gotten pregnant on the ring? Just some questions I've been having. Thanks!

I would like some people to tell me if what I am experiencing is normal...I was on Yasmin for 1 year, while on it I did not notice any side effects but now that I am off Yasmin I have aweful side effects such as:
mood swings
weight gain
water retention
heart burn
and not to mention i have not had my period now since stopping. I just stopped the second week of august (2005), how long should it take for my period to come back and be regular? I read some of the posts and alot of my symptoms seem to be "normal" but I have not read much about my period being off cycle. I even went as far as taking a home pregnancy test and of course it was negitive. PLEASE some advice would be helpful, my boyfriend seems to be a little more concerned than I am.

I have had the mirena for over a year and all of a sudden, I start to feel the side effects? I am nauseated, tired, bloated..... I FEEL PREGNANT! Taking a home pregnancy test tomorrow morning. I thought the whole idea of getting birth control was to well......BIRTH CONTROL. This is happening at a time that is impossible for me to be pregnant! Single mom with hopes and dreams of maybe living those dreams?! That is why I got on birth control and now maybe I chose a device that dosent work? Not right! I have an appt with my OB/GYN next week to check the placement and to see if I am in fact pregnant. I am 43 years old and so didn't plan on this.........
