Having read a lot of the posts on here I have just made an appointment to have my coil removed. I only had it inserted 2 months ago but have had severe fatigue and been unable to work as well as quite bad depression, very tearful, and loss of libido. Luckily I have not put on weight - lost it in fact - but I just don't feel right at all. My homeopath warned me that the doctors would deny that the coil was causing any of these symptoms but isn't it better to remove it and see?

I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis at the end of 2007 and have been on prednisone since then. I started on about 105mg a week and am currently trying to reduce it but it is really hard as the moment the dosage goes down I lose all mobility and cannot even get out of bed. I am only 23 years old and really feeling the disease to the extent that I cannot even cope with my life. The prednisone has really taken its toll on me and the side effects are crazy! I just want to go back to my old self as I am finding it sooo hard to get through a single day. My side effects include:
Insomnia, tooth sensitivity, depression, anxiety, mood swings, moon face (my face is so swollen that I cant stand looking in the mirror anymore, dizziness, temper, feelings of uselessness, nightmares, night sweats, water retention, and to top it all off the arthritis is getting worse and I am in constant pain. Is there anything anyone can suggest then please help me!

Oh my goodness.....my daughter, age 17, had her first injection in June 2008, started losing her hair w/in a month. We thought it was form straightening, some high lightening etc. She had blood work done which showed she was anemic...strange, as 2yrs prior her blood work was stellar, and she had not changed her diet, or physical activity. She increased her iron and protein intake (along w/ supplements).....three months later, and after her second injection, iron was still anemic....worse actually, and her hair loss significant.I found this website last night....and I am floored......I called MERCK today and spoke to a representative wh o was not aware of the hair loss issue, but said that in their case studies, Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia was a side effect.....which leads to hair loss itself.....so I am researching now what to do next.....anyone else have this issue??????

For the first time in 10 years I chose to go to a medical doctor instead of my usual Homeopath to receive treatment for a UTI. 2-3 weeks after taking Cipro My knee would suddenly give out while I was walking (no pain, yet). A week or so later the tendon behind my knee starting hurting. Another week the front of my knee hurt. Another week and it’s as if my muscles & tendons in my calfs completely froze. I could not walk. Excruciating pain at even resting feet on floor...could not bear any weight or pressure. Also swelling, strange crawling sensations, pinching pains, dull ache in leg bones, stabbing pains, tearing sensations in calfs...it seems to be a little different every day. Also some insomnia and anxiety, shortness of breath, and a strange sensation that my throat or tongue was swollen so I had to sleep in a raised position because it felt like I was suffocating when I laid down. Now 8 months later...only very slight improvement. I can grocery shop for about 20 minutes before I’m so exhausted and in so much pain that I’m sweating. Cannot lift or carry anything that’s even slightly heavy because it puts too much strain on my legs. When I can walk, I walk funny - kinda like Frankenstein’s monster (straight-legged) and also limp. I never thought at the age of 44 that just grocery shopping would be enough to wipe me out for 2 or more days. And yes...depression too. Who would’nt be? If you have any advice please share it with me.

I'm not someone affected by Levaquin, but my boyfriend took Levaquin and now he has blurriness, visual snow, static, and halos. He's having really bad vision, yet his doctor says he has 20/20 vision. He is becoming suicidal and doesn't want to live anymore. He's been to over 30 doctors alone in a few months to find a cure and none of the doctors want to put a blame on Levaquin. He is losing hope and I'm losing hope. He seriously contemplates suicide everyday. Please someone help or e-mail me with anything you did to help your vision if you took Levaquin. If you saw any retina specialist or special doctors that cured the problems that Levaquin damaged. He's willing to fly anywhere in the world to get this fixed. He's going to try acupuncture for the eyes. What other remedies or things should he be trying? My e-mail is ******

I had always been 160 lbs since 8th grade, which was a fine weight for me bacause I'm tall and muscular. When I was 25 I gained 20 lbs over 3 months with no change in diet or activity. So I went to the doctor because hypothyroidism is very prevelent in my family. The blood work showed I was borderline hypothyroid, so the dr didn't suggest starting any medication. So I started working out 4-5 times a week for at least 1-1 1/2 hours per day. I also got on phentermine to help jump start my diet. After doing this for 2 months, I had gained 5 lbs. Which is crazy because anytime I needed to lose weight, I had no problem dropping 10 lbs in 2 weeks. I was frustrated but ignored it for a while because I got pregnant shortly after that. During the pregnancy, my throid was checked again and was normal. I weighed 248 lbs the day I went in to give birth. 2 weeks later, I weighed 210lbs and a month after that I was 200lbs. Then I went back to work,(where I walk continuously all day) and I could not budge my weight below 200 lbs no matter what I did. So I went back to the dr and I was slightly hypothyroid again. I opted to go on generic Synthroid 25mcg. I then gained 37 lbs over 4-5 months. So I went to another dr. to get on phentermine. I started the phentermine and lost about 27 lbs. I have been off phentermine for a while, but have been working out vigorously working out and watching my diet and couldn't lose another pound. So, I thought the synthroid might be making it harder to lose weight. I stopped taking it and have lost about 10lbs in the last month. I think there is definitely a connection in synthroid and my inability to lose weight. But I still can't get below 200lbs and I still feel sluggish. I am only 28 and don't think I should attribute this to age. I can understand age causing weight gain of 5-10 lbs per year but not 155lbs in May '05 to 183lbs in Nov '05 then to 200lbs in Jul '07. Please give me any suggestions you might have. Diet, medication, activities???

I've had my Mirena for about 15 and a half months and I am having it removed today at 2 o'clock. At first I had sharp pains when I would sit down and I felt like the cords were poking me and irritating me. My OB/GYN requires patients to come back one month after having it put in so he can check it and make sure it is still in place. At this visit he also trimmed the cords although he acted like he didn't believe me when I told him that I could feel them poking me when I sat down and that it hurt. At first I didn't notice any bad side effects, but I did have one good one: my periods stopped, but I still had occasional and sporadic spotting. I didn't think to look for any bad side effects because I got the device under the impression that it had no bad side effects. I thought it only had a rare complication of perforating the uterus, but since mine was in place at the one month check, I didn't think about anymore until I started thinking about having another baby recently. I went online to see if I had to have a doctor remove the Mirena or if I could do it myself, and I found out that it's best done by a professional because bad things can happen and then you'd have to go to the doctor anyway. Plus, I didn't want to hurt my chances of having another baby. While online I discovered this whole world of message boards where women were having a lot of the same problems I'd been having in recent months and they all blamed their Mirenas. Some claimed that their problems had gone away since having it removed. I never thought to link my circumstances to the Mirena, but when I saw how many women are having the exact same problems as me I knew that I needed to go ahead and get mine out ASAP. Here is a list of my side effects, and I've found other women have had them as well with Mirena: weight gain, bloated stomach, depression, short temper with husband and daughter, acne, low sex drive, spotting, cramps, constipation, and back pain. There may be more, but I can't remember them all right now. Some of them may not even be related to the device, but I've read of so many women with Mirena who are having or have had the same issues, so I suspect a link between my problems and Mirena. I hope this helps someone out there looking for answers. God Bless!

After three years on this drug I have had a lot of hair loss and terrible numbness in my toes. The numbness was toward the end of the day when I would sit down. Until I began to read what others have had to say on this web site about numbness of the feet and hair loss I had no idea that Fosamax was the cause. I did not experience these symptoms until I had been on the drug for a couple of years. My homeopath told me to read about the side effects of Fosamax on the web and that is how I found this web site.

Tomorrow should be my last day of prednisone until I start weaning off it, so I will take my last batch of 8 tablets in the morning 5mg each and then wean off them. I forgot to take them this morning, I swear by this afternoon I was REALLY DIZZY, until I remembered to take them and about an hour later I was fine, that kinda scares me, your body shouldn't get hooked so quickly. Anyway I am going to see my homeopath on Wednesday and swopping over to herbal medicine. I like to put natural things into my body thank you :)
Bronchitis has gone YAY! but just a bit of a wheeze.
On Tuesday this week I will have stopped smoking for 2 whole weeks!! Best decision I have ever made!!
Will never touch another cigarette ever again.
Have a wonderful week everyone and remember that u are not alone if you are struggling with Prednisone. HEY who knew I was a poet!!

Hi everyone, Okay its day 6 of taking prednisone, I am feeling so light headed and awful that I decided to get a second opinion on my Bronchitis and all the cortisone that my Doctor has been giving me. Twice a day on Cortisone nebulizer and 40g of Prednisone a day. I am calling another Doctor I trust that I used before I moved State, tomorrow. I want to get a second opinion about how to wean myself off this Cortisone. I have then decided to go an see a Homeopath that helped me with my 35kg weight loss. She is brilliant. She is far from me to drive but after going through the side effects of this Prednisone I will drive anywhere to get better medical treatment. So no more chemicals in my body from now on I want natural medicine, it may take longer to heal but at least its going for the root of the problem and not the symptom. Wish me luck! -

Avascular Necrosis - Beware!
I have been taking Prednisone off and on for about threee years now for reoccuring iritis. Have been up to 60 mgs./day a few times, and many of the times I taper, no matter how slowly, the iritis comes back. Since you can go blind from iritis, I guess Prednisone is the lesser evil.
Anyway, during my first longer period of taking it, I had many of the common side effects - weight gain, double chin, facial hair, hyperactivity, moon face, etc. After visiting a classic homeopath, he gave me a remedy which kept the iritis away for a few months. Subsequent attacks did not respond to the remedy though. I have been back on Prednisone for about 8 - 9 months now, and have a drastic side effect to report, which I haven't seen before here.
After a long road trip (10 hours) I began to have strange pains in my upper right hand thigh, which seemed to eminate from the leg joint. No matter what I did, they didn't go away and not even 2 Lortabs could help the pain. I went to the orthopedic doctor and he diagnosed avascular necrosis. The is a condition where the blood flow has been cut off to the bone, in this case, the femur, and the bone begins to die off. If it can be detected in an X-ray, it is already pretty far along. An MRI, which I had yesterday, shows best what is going on.
This is a DIRECT side effect of long-term prednisone use which no one ever told me about! So if you have joint pain, especially at the end of a longer bone, BE SURE and talk to a doctor about it. It is going to be a serious deal to get rid of this.

all the people closely examining their symptoms and trying to figure the cause just check if they have used any setroid sprays for their nose(allergic rhintis)/cause an inhaled spray causes much greater side effects than a inhaled advair puff.its ironical that docs say advair doesnt enter ur system but what wud they say when they prescribe steroid sprays for nasal allergies?ok i am happy that i did find a way out of steroids and steroid side effects.i am using homeopath and its been 8 months now/i am not reacting to dust at all/the remed for dust allergy is bromine 1M in homeopahty/to the disbeleivers just tr the remedy/of course one shud alwas be under expert guidance/but there r no side effects here.

Does anyone know how long it takes for the side effects to wear off???
I was on Yasmin for 8 months and it is the worst pill I have been on. I had most of the side effects mentioned. Terrible migraines behind my eye, cramps in my feet, my face was numb down one side, dizziness, TERRIBLE ANXIETY almost like panic attacks, terrible mood swings, feeling like I was pregnant, etc. The worst was the anxiety, I thought I was going mad or getting depression. I've gone from a really confident person who loved work to someone who was constantly nervous and was afraid to go to work. I almost gave work up because I was so stressed. Finally someone said to look up the side effects of Yasmin which was when I found this site and stopped taking it immediately. I started to feel better after a couple of days and started to calm down a bit.
I went to a homeopath who was very good and gave me really good advice regarding eating healthily and did a bit of counselling which made me realise I wasn't going mad at all. Unfortunately she can't recommend anything except condoms for birth control, but I'd rather be pregnant than go through the last 8 months again.
Now that I think back I'd asked my doctor for this specific pill, and she made the comment that she'd had bad reports about it, but it was the usual see how you go and try stick it out.

Okay, so I am a 15 year old girl and I have had all three of the shots. The shot burns like they are putting fire directly into your arm for one. I have had two shots in my left arm and one in my right. I had to do this because the first two made my arm muscle sore. Its been months since the first shots and my arm screams at the touch. I talked about it to my doctor but she said that that was normal and it may or may not go away. Great, right? So a few days ago (2 days) i got my last shot. It still hurts to the touch but I was expecting that. Yesterday, (1 day after the shot) I woke up at the unusual hour of four in the morning with the worst stomach ache I have ever had. Thinking it was just a random stomach ache i tried to squeeze my stomach and go back to bed but that didn't work. I realized that it hurt worse when I was on my side and if I was lying on my back it felt better but it didn't go away. I was upset that I had to get up that early on Christmas Eve just because of this. Soon my body took on more and more signs of the flu. These included, extreme nausea, fever, headache, muscle numbness, the same stomach ache, weakness, a lot of dizziness, fatigue and many other things that made me want to heal over and die, no joke. At one point I just broke down and started to cry. It was the worst thing I have ever experienced.
So it is now Christmas morning at 4:40 am and I am up (as I have been for two hours). Not because my little brother came into my room and woke me up at a ridiculous time so he could open presents, which he hasn't yet, but because the stupid shot has made me feel like I'm dying. I wish I would have never gotten it. This stupid shot has me on the internet searching for people that are experiencing this same thing. I have also considered a tapeworm because that is just how bad I feel... If you are wondering if you should get it or not i would definitely say no. It isn't worth it in the long run and my sister says it could cause depression and I am starting to feel that. Stupid, stupid shot. Not worth it.
