I'm 24 yrs old and have 2 children. I had the Mirena placed in June of 2008. At first I really didn't have any symptoms just spotting everyday that lasted for 4 months. The first few times my husband and I had sex afterwards, it was a little uncomfortable but that went away. I even went through a phase about 3 months after it was placed - I had severe migraines, which I had never had before. I got these headaches everyday for nearly 2 months and them they just quit. It seemed like as soon as the headaches went away my lower back started to ache constantly. The pain seems to have gotten worse with each passing day. I was so relieved to find this site and know that all this wasn't just my imagination. Now, I deal with the chronic, severe lower back pain in the hopes that it will soon go away like all of my other symptoms. It hurts so much I don't feel like even moving. This is effecting my husband, my children, my house(it's a mess all the time now because cleaning is so hard for me now), and even my career. I had this thing placed because I wanted all of those things to benefit, not suffer. Can anyone tell me if the back pain has gone away for them? I just want to find out if it will eventually go away like everything else or if the only cure is to get this thing taken out.

I have been reading the comments here for a few weeks. I had the Mirena for almost 5 years. I had it inserted after my 3rd child. I have never been overweight. I gained 25 lbs. Felt bloated and pregnant all the time, and had horrible migraines caused by the hormonal fluctuations. I also felt like ants were crawling all over my body. Last Tuesday, I finally was able to get the Mirena removed. When the GYN removed it I felt a little cramping. That was it. Off and on the rest of the day and the next day I had cramping and a little spotting. Thursday, I started passing huge clots and lots of bright red blood. I came close to passing out. Friday it slowed down a little. I spent most of the weekend in bed and now the blood slowed down. I am feeling better. Less bloated and I lost 5 lbs already. The GYN said it will take 4-6 weeks for my body to get back to normal. Other posts I read say it could take up to 18 months. I would never recommend the Mirena to anyone. I would have removed it sooner but did not have insurance. I tried to do it myself but couldn't get to it. Now I am hoping to get my body back in balance and 25 lbs. Thanks for all your posts.

Has anyone experienced sun spots on their skin after the IUD? A few months after I had mine inserted i got a huge sun spot on my forehead (HUGE) and few smaller ones on my chicks and chin. Didn't see that as a sure side effect and wonder if anyone else got sun spots? Nothing I did so far made them go away - I am running out of ideas...

Hi all...I've been taking 25mg. of Topamax at night for 5 days now. Unlike most of you I have not experienced the tingling in the extremities or the weird taste in the mouth or even much tiredness at all other than what has happened as a result of my weird side effect. I was prescribed Topamax by my neurologist for my migraines. I've had them since I was 12 years old. I'm 49 years old. The got worse during peri-menopause which is kinda normal given the hormonal fluctuations, but was told by my neurologist that they would very likely subside significantly when I became menopausal. Well folks, I've been menopausal for 5 years and for the past 2 years my migraines have been the most horrific of my life. I have approx. 15 to 18 migraine days a month, some of the headaches lasting 3 bloody days. So it comes to this...Topamax. In the past I have suffered some pretty rare side effects from some very benign medications so I guess I shouldn't really be surprised that this is happening to me now. The first night I took it I slept like a baby. The second night I was slightly 'hyper' but managed to get to sleep. But for the past 3 nights it's been hell. When I lie down in bed, my body feels as though there are electric currents shooting through it and coming out my right leg. I have to move my right leg or go completely bonkers. Fortunately my daughter is away at university and so I can sleep in her room. So I lie there...on my left side...with my right leg hanging over the side of the bed swinging and swinging and swinging as hard as I can just so that I don't scream. It's awful. Last night was the worst. I saw dawn this morning. I just got off the phone with my pharmacist and he told me that I had described a classic case of RLS - Restless Leg Syndrome. And guess what? Topamax is used to trest RLS!! For bleep's sake! So nice people I am suffering a completely opposite side effect to the one that seems to be the most common one...tiredness. Has anyone else heard of this? Experienced this? It seems to all focus down to my right hip and leg. I have to move it vigourously or go nuts. I am so tired today but that's because I got like 3 hours sleep. I fell asleep from sheer exhaustion after my husband left for work at 7:30am.
A side note...I also take 75mg of Effexor for panic disorder and my neurologist told me that this is a very good mix of meds for migraine prevention. My top dosage for the Topamax will be 75mg taken at night.
I'd really appreciate any feedback on my side effect. Thanks in advance.

D.

Hello everyone..
I've been on YAZ for about a week now. My MD prescribed it because of my hormonal fluctuations before my period cause me to get a nasty yeast infection EVERY MONTH! ugh... The purpose was to stabilize my hormones (he wanted me to skip the placebo pills and only have a period once every three months). The first few days that I took this I felt okay. I noticed heart palpitations the second or third day that are still present. Yesterday I started noticing memory problems (little things like not being able to remember if I flushed the toilet or closed the garage door, followed by obsessive thoughts of needing to check on every little thing). I've also been more tired than normal since day 3 or 4. Today I'm almost a week into the pills and I had trouble sleeping last night and woke up this morning with EXTREME moodiness and a headache. I cried for 3 hours this morning for no reason and totally went off on my husband when he called me during his lunch break - the first REAL fight we have had in almost a year!!!! I also started spotting yesterday with cramps and today it's heavier. I'm not due for a period for at least 2 more weeks. I called my GYN and told him I would no longer be taking these pills. I'll happily deal with monthly yeast infections over feeling like a crazy woman. I haven't felt like this since I was diagnosed with post partem depression 3 years ago (which has been completely gone for at least 2 years - cured by 4 months of zoloft). You all know your bodies and yes we respond to things differently, but there's no need to put yourselves through this.. My advice to other women - if you are sensitive to your hormonal fluctuations, don't try YAZ!
