lower back pain, hair loss, joint pain, complicated migraines, vertigo, palpitation, hormonal imbalances (lowered DHEA, increased aldosterone-it affected my adrenal glands and kidneys), epigastric pain, bleeding, extreme fatigue, anxiety, pulmonary failure etc. I had to go through ER, 2 CT scans ( abdominal and brain), 2 MRIs, neurologist, endocrinologist, GI, gyno etc. I threw my Yaz pills in the trash after the first CT scan that revealed multiple tumors in my liver and left adrenal gland ( i took the pills for about 3 and 1/2 years)... the past 6 months have been a hell, but there are no more migraines, anxiety or other neurological symptoms at this point. By the way, one of my best friends who just started on Yaz recently ended up in the ER last week with a blood cloth in her left lung. Please stay away from that drug!

I have had panic attacks, depression and general anxiety disorder for most of my life. Sometime during my teen years I became well enough to go off medication and manage my issues on my own. Before I started taking Yaz seven weeks ago due to a recent diagnosis of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, I had maybe one episode every 2-6 months. Since I started taking Yaz (or Dyazide) I have had panic attacks almost every day. I read last week that hormonal imbalances can make anxiety worse, but had no idea it would be this bad. My agoraphobia has returned- I'm scarcely able to leave the house. Today I decided to stop taking this medication. Hopefully it will take less than seven weeks to get it all out of my system because I do not know how much longer this will take.
The interesting thing is, even though the makers of Yaz say that the FDA wanted them to clear things up in their ad, they never mention this. I had never heard of a connection between birth control pills containing synthetic progestins and anxiety. My doctor never mentioned it. If I had been aware I would have asked for a completely different method of treatment, because this is unbearable. If you are at all concerned about anxiety or panic attacks, have a lengthy discussion with your doctor about these side effects.

I think most of this is all in your heads. It does state clearly in the booklet though that you will have less of a sex drive. But being depressed and all is all own thing. Maybe if you start thinking that its making you happy you will feel happy....

I have been looking into the side effects (mainly safety concerns) of NuvaRing when I stumbled on this site. From all the info I've read, it's a pretty high dose of hormones. I have actually had the best luck from NR and have been on it since it came out in 2001. (I will be 29 this year) Also, I only have my period 4 times per year. (Love it!) I understand that this drug causes many problems for women but I have had a long history of hormonal imbalances, yeast infections, UTI's (caused by yeast infections, seriously) and this is the only drug that has helped me long term. It has vastly improved my mood, I have had significantly fewer yeast infections and am very happy about having my period less often. I am pretty active and eat a healthy vegetarian diet, but I feel much better when on NR. Perhaps it is better for women like me who have pre-existing hormonal problems. ?? Also, for what it's worth - Organon (the maker of NR) made the birth control pill that I responded best to before NR. If you have problems with NR, you may want to take a look at the type of hormone used and stay away from it as some other BC pills & patches do use the same hormone as NR. Best of Luck!

I am currently 58 years old and lead a very active, healthy lifestyle. I began taking 10mg of Zocor, along with 1000mg of niacin in the summer of 2004 to reduce cholesterol (251) and triglycerides (571). The therapy dramatically improved my blood tests, however, within 6 weeks, I began to experience minor chronic skin infections, both fungal and bacterial. They were easily controlled with topical over the counter type medications, but they were annoying. At no time was this new condition linked to the statin/niacin therapy by my doctor(s). The infections became progressively worse over the next 3 years, and evolved into chronic folliculitis in my scalp, neck, and face, cystic acne, and persistent fungal infections that were becoming more difficult to control. In addition, I began to get chronic eye infections. It was as if my immune system was becoming ineffective. I stopped taking niacin in December of 2007 and the symptoms immediately lessened. I stopped taking Zocor in March of 2008 and within 2 weeks, all the skin problems and eye infections completely ended. My health was restored completely and I am glad to have put that whole mess behind me! I have been taking Omega 3 supplements to control my cholesterol and triglycerides and have had results that equaled the Zocor and Niacin therapy, with cholesterol at 160, triglycerides at 91, and a favorable HDL/LDL ratio. My physician is skeptical, but I know that my body was not functioning correctly with the statin/niacin treatment. I have found anecdotal reports from others who seem to have experienced a change in their immune system, but no mention of this as a side effect by the medical establishment.

Wow you are all a bunch of complainers who try and blame XYZ on Yasmin which probably have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with the pills. I have bee diagnosed with PCOS and have been on hormone therapy since age 15, first zovia, which worked well enough but did not get rid of a lot of my symptoms, only lessened them somewhat, so now I am on yaz. My depression has completely subsided, I feel GREAT and only had some nausea which almost EVERYONE gets when taking a hormone therapy birth control pill. Trust me, if you are going to have SIDE EFFECTS it is not going to happen 4 YEARS LATER, please.... grow up and take responsibility for yourselves, rather than trying to blame a pill

I can't believe some of the things you people are blaming on the Mirena! There is NO substantial evidence that supports ANY of your claims! I had the Mirena put in on the May 16 and, while it was painful to put in, I haven't had pain since! My only complaint is that I haven't stopped spotting. My sex drive is IMPROVED if anything but the bleeding has made it hard to "engage". As soon as the spotting lightens enough, I "engage" and then right after, I start bleeding again. But that is no big deal since I was told to expect this pattern. As for those of you little teeny boppers who are just dating and haven't had a child yet...What the hell are you even doing on the Mirena??? Did you not hear that you aren't a good candidate for it????

Wow..this makes me feel a lot better reading all of this. I have been off of Yasmin for about a year now but am still feeling the side effects. When I was on it I felt fine at first & was extremely excited about finally being on BC. Then about a month into it I started getting extremely bad heart palpitations and tingly body and arms. My heart would race and I thought I was about to have a heart attack everyday. I consulted my gyn/ob about this and she stated it was "normal side effects of the pill." I told her I was concerned that I had a blood clot or something else extremely severe. She convinced me it was all normal & I would be EXTREMELY ill and in the hospital if that was the case. I told her it was interfering with my life on a daily basis but she didn't seem to believe me. My boyfriend had also noticed I had been acting extremely anxious, moody and depressed and became concerned. It got to the point where he couldn't even touch me when I was at home since I was having STABBING chest pains on a daily basis. I couldn't even move & I would have really bad heartburn all the time. I went to the doctor a couple of times because I thought I was seriously having a heart attack...Stabbing pains- tingly arms and legs, extreme anxiety...my heart was pounding so hard I couldn't breath and then my heart felt as if it would pop in and out when I took a breath. My doctor said it was normal side effects as well so I told myself I was just the crazy one once again. I went to the doctor about a month later when things got worse..this whole time thinking that Yasmin had nothing to do with it and found my blood pressure was 160/90!!! My doc said it should have been about 120/70. I started blood pressure medication but the heart palpitations did not stop so eventually I stopped with Yasmin. Things have gotten better but it has still left me with permanent damage. My anxiety is still a problem and my blood pressure is still sky high...even on meds. I never had any problems before any of this...now I have major problems for life because of this drug. I know they warn you of issues prior but NO medication should do this to ANYONE. I also gained about 20 pounds when I was on the pill and when I got off I lost about 15 pounds in 2 days..I lost equilibrium in my body and felt sick with all of the sudden weight loss....Is anyone considering a Class action lawsuit against this company? & why are the doctors covering up the side effects of this drug? I know they get paid for referring people to certain drugs but this is SCARY...keep me updated.

I started the pill when i was 14, trying to control my cramps and acne. I have now been on the pill for 4 years. I constantly felt depressed and "blocked" in everything in my life. I gained over 40 pounds in my adolescence and never knew why. I'm taking control of my life now and have lost about 20. I went off the pill about a month ago and I can say with all of my being it was the best move i ever made. Then the acne came. I was devastated. I went back on and feel blocked again. My weight loss has come to a fault and my cravings are out of control. I am going back off of the pill again immediately. However, i don't want my acne to come back. Does anyone know of a great way to control it? creams don't really work for me so I'm not sure what to try. Mabye an herbal remedy? Any suggestions??

I have been on some sort of birth control for 7 years now. I started taking the ring about 2 years ago. I have noticed all of the side effects mentioned here. Also, I started noticing recently that my PMS symptoms were starting a week and a half before I even removed the ring. This is ridiculous!! I finally decided to stop using it. It's not worth the discomfort and aggravation. You will go through some hormonal imbalances but a medical professional advised me to start taking Vitex, Vitamin B6, and Calcium supplements. these are all natural and can be found in GNC stores, and similar places. They have made the transition a breeze!

Hi Tiffany!
I'm sorry to hear, that you're doing so bad.
<>
But I think that you shouldn't say something like the above. Everyone's body is reacting different and some women already feel better after only 4 weeks, another after 2 or 3 months and some women are still dealing with some problems after 1 year and more. But you should definitely NOT say, that its NOT true, that you CAN feel better after 3 months. I think that's very discouraging to many women who are dealing with severe symptoms and are thinking of stopping Yasmin.
In my case, for example, there was something like a "turnaround" point at around 3 - 4 months. That was where I felt that things SLIGHTLY got better. And I mean SLIGHTLY!! Just every month a very little step. I remember that I always was in fear that I NEVER would get better, because everything just started getting better so SLOWLY.
And now, I'm about 1,5 years WITHOUT Yasmin, I'm still dealing with some hormonal imbalances, didn't get my normal period, yet, sometimes I feel I'm on a rollercoaster. There are weeks, where I feel totally normal and fit and then it hits me again with tiredness, weakness and anxiety-problems, but NOT AT ALL that severe as it was during taking Yasmin and around after 6 months off!
And I think that my problems at the moment are caused by that hormonal problems I'm still dealing with (not to forget: before taking Yasmin my periods always where regular!!!) that I'm still dealing with.
My weight, that I gained AFTER getting off Yasmin (around 25 pounds within 3 months!!!!!!) is slightly going down since about 3 months, without changing anything in my life. For me that is a nother proof for the regulating of my metabolism and I'm very sure, that in a few months more everything will be better than today. That's what kept me alive the last 2 years, dealing with symptoms, that I nearly couldn't have beared any longer....
So please all of you don't loose hope and believe in yourself!! You can get through this!! One year ago I never would have believed that I'd be feeling ever again the way I'M feeling today!! I swear!!
And if it's not within 3 months then in 8 months or even longer, but your live is worth waiting for better times, that DEFINITELY are ahead!!!
I wish you all the best and the strength that you need right now!! God bless you all!!
Silke

I am 26 years old and have been on toprol xl for 7 years. I started on 50 mg and now my doctor has increased the dosage to 200mg. I am exhausted 24-7, I have joint pain so bad I can hardly function. i can't even hardly keep up on my housework and I can't work. My hair is falling out and has for 2 years now. I have no sex drive which is ruining my marriage. I just had bloodwork done and my tryglyceride level is 915 which it is suppose to be below 150. I just saw an article that said beta blockers will raise tryglycerides(which is fat in your blood). Also I still have high blood pressure, rapid heart rate, chest pains, palpatations, and "episodes" where i become really hot, pale, nauseated, have severe chest pains, cant move, and weird heart beats and my doctor doesnt know whats wrong. My doctor puts me on a special diet and tells me to exercise. I eat better than most people and still weigh 200 lbs. and I am 5 feet tall. I try to exercise but I am so tired and hurt so much, it is just about impossible for me to do. I felt this way for many years and my doctor doesnt seem to care. she blows me off when i keep telling her how I feel. I didnt even really know toprol could cause such harsh side effects. and now that i know that is why i feel so bad I cant do anything about it because i tried one time to get off the toprol for one day and almost ended up in the hospital because of how bad i felt(my heart)

I have noticed a few side effects after 18 months of taking he pill:
NEGATIVE: constant depression, tiredness, irregular bleedings, vaginal dryness, no sexual desire at all, constant headache, hair loss, sensitive skin (feeling very uncomfortable/ tickly when someone touch my skin)
I must however point out the POSITIVE side effects that made me conitnue using the pill (hoping the others would go away!): clear skin, no acne, bad facial and hairline psoriasis totally gone, loss of appetite (weight loss)
Reading this page has made me realise that the negative side effects aren't going to go away, and so I am quitting this pill - and all others for that matter. I am 36, have never taken any other BCP's in my life and so I know my body reactions very well. It is not worth jeopardizing a happy family life with husband and 2 kids - all because of the above negative side effects. There are other natural remedies that regulate hormonal imbalances that can sort my skin out - and my husband has agreed to have a vasectomy...

I have been getting lupron depot injections since my laproscopy back in August and had no trouble the first month except for hot flashes. After the second injection I started to experience migraine type headaches and I would get the shakes really bad through the night almost as if I was coming down with the flu. I just had my third injection and the symptoms are worse. I feel tired, nauseated, body aches, chills through the night and hot flashes all day long. Will my symptoms continue to get worse as I go on? I have two more months of injections and I am contemplating not doing it. My husband and I have a beautiful little girl but really want another child. Is two more months really going to guarantee pregnancy or is it a waste of my time?
