I am at the end of my first packet and due to start the end cycle two days later. And to be honest i am utterly confused. I have been having late periods for the past few months and also suffered from mood swings. I was prescribed this Loestrin 24 mainly for some hormonal dis balance which was presumably causing these problem with menstruation. And now i have had more mood swings than ever, cried without reason felt depressed more often than ever. I have also had spotting at least 3 times over the month but not my regular period till date though it's been well over a month. to make it worse , i have eye pain and headache over the past few days. Sex has been rare this month!! dry vagina and almost no interest in sex , and I am just 28.
wasn't I better off with the small hormonal problem?
-P.

Hi BitterRN!!

(Sorry ladies if this seems to get a "privat chat", but I think our "written books" can surely be helpful to others of you, too....)

Well, I absolutely understand, what you say. And this is surely an option I will get checked (ok, if I ever will have the power to go to another doctor again after my aimless oddyssey in 2005.......!). I think I should mention, that here in Germany the health system has gotten really difficult in the past 6 - 7 years so that the doctor's could not make every test on you which might be helpful. So it's really difficult to get blood tests (especially the expensive ones as homormonal testings...) done by a doc. That's what my situation always made even more difficult, than it already was...

But one thing I really don't understand: My perhaps low testosterone levels still don't explain, why I was doing so much better the last few months (as I already told here in former posts, I even started singing in my band again and I really felt good, about 85% like my old self!!) and now, after that bad cold 3 weeks ago, the tiredness and muscle weakness and stiffness (also craming in my legs during night and day) kicked in at once as if I was thrown back to nearly one year ago... I really feel and think, that his must be a lack of some minerals or vitamines again (magnesium because of the cramping legs and fingers, perhaps b-vitamines??? I feel so unsure......). Maybe this comes on top of the testosterone or other hormonal problem and makes my symptoms worse...!??? But I deeply feel, that there MUST be something else above the definitely still lasting hormonal imbalance...

Thank you BitterRN for answering so quickly and detailed!!

best wishes
Silke

birth control pills in general seem to cause problems with regards to depression and anxiety so it is quite possible that your previous contraceptive caused your depression although an unhappy marriage probably didn't help the situation much. yasmin seems to be one of the worst pills for causing emotional instability,i am not sure why. it seems to affect women that had an underlying hormonal problem before they went on it so maybe makes a hormone imbalance worse..... i'm just guessing really. i used birth control before i had my 2 girls and never had a problem but went onto yasmin after i had breast fed my second child for a year as my hormones were all over the place, within six months i was an emotional and physical wreck. anyway,i am glad that you have come off yasmin and are feeling better, see how you feel in a few months time before trying the anti-depressant route again, you may find that you will get better naturally and also deciding to end an unhappy marriage may improve your depression. my doctor suggested anti-depressants but i never took them and now i have been off yasmin for 4 months i am glad i didn't as i am clearly not depressed at all it was just the artificial hormones causing the depresiion/anxiety/panic attacks and horrible horrible physical side effects. i can't stress how important it is to take a good b complex supplement as well as vitamin B6,magnesium and maybe some added zinc. and drink loads of water,it really does help. good luck with your recovery and really enjoy your time with your daughter,my youngest is now 3,they grow up so fast and i felt like i had wasted so much of my precious time with her through my yasmin induced nightmare.

I WOULD NOT PUT MY CHILD OR ANY CHILD ON SINGULAR. Singulair can cause a hormonal problem that may cause your child to halucinate experiences and to believe them to be true. A child may not be able to communicate the experiences, nightmares etc. that they could be experiencing. Even adults may not be able to tell reality from halucinations, dreams, etc. I am sure this is not true of everyone who takes this drug, but I PERSONALLY WOULD NEVER PUT A CHILD ON THIS DRUG.

My husband had a horrific experience with this drug. He was so afraid to tell me that he had the cops chasing him at night (he was at home with me every night), he though he killed a dog another night, and other more disturbing imagined experiences. Thankfully he trusted me enough to confide all he thought he had done. We found this website and went to the Dr. and took him off the drug and within 3-4 days his brain began working properly again.

Can you imagine how a child might deal with that? Please consider another alternative.
