I too have been experiencing the same side effects listed by most of you. I have also been seeing a gastroenterologist for about 9 months now because of stomach issues. All symptoms point to gallbladder disease but the tests come back normal. I called my gyne today and they seem unconcerned with what I have told them and advised me to continue to take my pills until my annual visit in October. I'm done with this pack on Saturday and am thinking of going sans pills for the next month until my appt. Any advice on what pill I should switch to when I do see my dr.?

Hi I am from Nepal, and I am 28 years young, male. I have been taking Lisinopril for about 2 years now. At the beginning this drug seemed to have no side effects at all but as the days progressed I could see the side effects. As side effects started to climb up hill day after day, my friend suggested me to consult my physician immediately. So I consulted my physician yesterday and he told me to do an array of tests; blood test including thyroid hormone test, ECG, and chest X-Ray. My reports will come in due 1 weak time. For now my doctor has changed this medication and given me amlodipine and atenolol combination and its trade name is "amlobet" (manufactured in india by: sun pharmaceutical industries). I took 1 dose yesterday and some of my symptoms seemed to disappear, but I'm quite not sure whether its my Psychology that has contributed to the sudden disappearance of some symptoms or the drug itself. I still have to take this medication for some time to make sure of it.
Some side effects experience during Lisinopril intake:

1. Extreme fatigue and lack of interest in doing day to day work this symptom has disappeared as i started on the new medication.
2. Depression like feeling specially early in the morning and at night times.
3. Waking up in the middle of the night.
4. Vivid dreams.
5. Foggy thinking.
6. Nervousness.
7. Palpitation.
8. Anxiety.
9. Profuse sweating.
10. Shaking of hands and legs during nervousness.
11. Slight Memory loss.
12. Lack of concentration.
13. Mood swing (extreme).
14. Dullness (extreme).

As I progress on this new medication I will update this blog. And I'l also give information regarding my blood tests and ECG tests after my report comes. For now this much. But I recommend Lsinopril users to consult their respective physician seriously before taking this medication and consult even if you are on the medication. This drug seems to pass the blood brain barrier and reach the brain so it affects the central nervous system directly which is not the case in some HBP medications like; amlodipine, atenolol etc.

Ugh, this has to be the worst medicine I have EVER been on. I was having anxiety attacks that occurred every evening and lasted for hours. Hot flash, nauseousness, inability to concentrate, thought I was going crazy.........
they started after my mom went in for open heart surgery in Nov of 2008. They put me on Xanax for attacks, and Clonazepam (double ugh), and I didn't take Effexor for a while, but my aunt convinced me to do it as I wasn't doing much better.

The thing is I'd been having issues with fatigue, heart palpitations, facial hair, etc. for several months to years and the doctors ran blood work and said everything was fine........

With the clonazepam and effexor I didn't have mood swings so much, but it was because I spent 16-20 hours a day in bed. When I first started the effexor I was told that the side effects go away after your body adjusts, and as it was the fourth or fifth anti-depressant I tried I figured I would suffer through. I lost 40 pounds (as I was/am overweight it was a good side effect in some ways) in a matter of 6 weeks, lost my appetite to the point that when I realized that I needed to do something about it I had to force myself to eat 1/2 piece of toast a day, slowing eating more...........I went several weeks only able to eat an average of 500 calories a day. I was so nauseous all the time. I was pretty much having a break down. I would only be "functioning" for 2-6 hours a day.

After going to the ER because my muscles began shaking while standing or trying to climb stairs (I'm only 28), having racing heart beats which they just prescribed more medication for, absolutely no energy, my hair falling out by the handfuls, I would wake up with it on my pillow............could not concentrate for the life of me, falling behind in school work (back to school mom), unable to do papers because I couldn't think.............

They finally tested my thyroid (runs in the family, have been telling them it sounded like my thyroid from the beginning........) my levels were finally off the charts, my TSH wasn't even registering. I was diagnosed with Graves disease........which can cause the panic attacks that they put me on the medication for in the first place.

As I figured it was probably the Graves, I tried weaning off my meds, only to feel as though I was going nuts and going to die............... I cut my clonazepam and effexor dosages in half, and within 2 days I could concentrate, and within a couple weeks I could go up and down the stairs again.............

Even now it is hard to say how much of my issues were caused by the Graves and how much was due to the Effexor combined with the Clonazepam. I was able to wean of the Clonazepam within 6 weeks by cutting my dosage in quarters every two weeks, but NOT the Effexor. I tried cut it and started having panic attacks, couldn't think, major migraines, and bed ridden........so I had to reduce it even slower.

Once I got down to half a dose, all of my symptoms went away except the fatigue. That is why I associate a lot of it with Effexor and NOT the Graves, because the symptoms did not go away until I reduced the drugs. I am now finally free of Effexor for about a month, and it was a hard road. It took me six months. I still have some issues with concentration and the occasional panic attack, but they are very minimal. I have read that this could be due to either both or one of the drugs I was on as it can take a year or more for your body to adjust.

Anyhoo, I wonder if the medication didn't trigger the Graves, or what.............but I would NEVER EVER suggest this medication to anyone.

I have gained most of the weight I lost back........but that is to be expected since my metabolism probably hit rock bottom not eating anything but toast for weeks.......

Anyhoo, I really wish that Doctors would tell you what could happen before giving you a drug. At least then when you start having these symptoms you know where and why...........rather then going in, and them having no idea?!?!?!? Funny, as if you search online you see lists that match exactly what you are going through.

I am now VERY leery about taking any meds at all, including Tylenol.

March 10 I have had the Mirena since Nov 2006 after delivering my second child. I got it not because of it being a birth control method, but because my periods being so unbelievably heavy that they cause me to become anemic. I am getting my IUD removed Thurs 3/12. I thought the Mirena was great at first. Some slight cramping and the spotting was annoying but better than a period for me. However, the last year has been horrible. I have been losing my hair horribly, to the point where I have to wear it back all the time or atleast the top half up, otherwise you can see a large balding area. I have had every hormone test done possibly, I am going to see a dermatologist too. However, I have been doing some research and then found this website, it is unbelievable. I never quite put the two and two together with the hair loss, teh acne I have on my cheeks and on my neck (I have never had this type of problem with acne before in my life), I feel exhausted, and I have at least 15 headaches a month. Oh and not to forget my sex drive yeah gone. I kept blaming everything on stress, two little kids, I have a thryod disorder (however controlled my medicat) it is just crazy to read this website. I hope that the mirena is the problem, and good luck to everyone else that has it

I never thought about the side effects of mirena. I had mine in over 4 yrs. and now I've realized the maybe everything that I've been going through could be because of it. I've been depress, moody, in pain all over and I feel like no doctor knows what is going on with me. I have gain a lot of weight, I'm heavier now than I was at 9 months pregnant. I'm a 36 year old married mother of four, my youngest is five now. My main concern is that lately, I've been feeling this terrible pain on my upper back and neck. I feel my bones crack with every movement, they crack even when I breath. A few weeks ago I went to the doctor and she order an x-ray of my neck and it showed some deterioration of the bones. I've been so worried, even thinking that it could be cancer or something. Now after finding this website I am wondering if it could be the Mirena.

My wife started on 6.25 dosage for her inability to sleep properly. It helped her sleep. However, the 6.25 stopped being responsive and her MD prescribed her a higher dosage. Once she started taking the higher dosage, her thought process was impaired and had extreme pressure headaches along the head, face and neck. Her mind was so screwed up that she started to have suicidal thoughts and intense feelings of fear that she would start to have panic attacks. I do not know how these drugs get FDA approved. Went to a naturopath who did a hormone test and found that her hormones were unbalanced. Went on bio-identical hormone replacement therapy and she is herself again. She is also able to sleep properly.

I have been on Singulair for about 2-3 years during which time I have lost a considerable amount of hair. It is quite noticeable. My hair hairdresser said "this is not good" the last time I got a haircut. I also have bad dreams, fatigue and irritability. I want to try something to replace the sinulair for asthma, but am trying to avoid steroids. Any suggestions? Would appreciate any information on a class action suit if the hair loss is not reversible when discontinuing product..

Hello,

I read about how YAZ birth control pill affects the body and psych and I am now scared. This is my 2nd day of YAZ (I've never been on birth control pills ever and I am 27 years old), it's all new to me but after reading all these negative posts about Yaz I don't know what to do. Before the birth control pills, I was depressed, annoying, serious weight problems - 210 lbs :~~((, low energy, low libido, always tired, terrible migraines every 2nd day, ridiculously increased appetite and excessive hunger, hair where it shouldn't be, menstrual blood clots, excessive cramping etc
I have all these problems for 3 years now and now that the family doc. put me on YAZ birth control pill I am even more scared - mainly of more weight gain, it would be a tragedy for me, I am fat enough already and what's worse I can't lose the weight, exercise doesn't help, diet doesn't help, NOTHING. Will YAZ birth control pill worsen my already tragic condition? I just don't know what to do and what to believe ... I appreciate any advice or help you can give me ... Thank You to all!

hi guys! about four months ago my doctor switched me from ortho tri cyclen lo(which I had been on for two years) to yasmin. It was the worst experience I have ever had in my entire life. About a week into the medicine I started getting horrible headaches, terrible anxiety and suicidal thoughts. I was sooo scared from this medicine that I stopped taking it thinking that everything was going to get better! Well wasnt I wrong. I developed OCD really bad to a point where I would sit and worry that I would hurt someone I loved or that I would hurt myself. and I had disturbing thoughts in my head that made my anxiety worse. I have been off the medicine for like 4 months and I am now taking 50 mgs of zoloft for my OCD, anxiety, and depression. I am unsure that it is working yet it's only been two weeks! I hope and pray eveyday that I finally start feeling myself! It's been horrible! Has anyone had this experience from this medicine? and if so do you think that I should get a hormone test, because I am almost convinced from reading other posts that my hormones are wacky! Well thanks for reading! and I hope everyone feels better! :)

Hi Girls,
I haven't posted in a while, but I was wondering how everyone was doing with the weight gain. I have now been off Yasmin for 1 yr. I am feeling really great, I am now back to being able to run/walk or rollerblade 4-5 miles a day 4-5 times a week. My cycles are more normal than ever. Not exactly 28 days more like 38, but I'm ok with that.

The thing that is still getting me is that I not only can't lose weight, I'm still gaining it. I think I have now gained 40 lbs. I am taking vitamin b as well as women's one a day. Don't really want to take any more drugs though.

I had my thyroid checked when I was on the pill and going through the awful hell, had most of the side effects you have all posted, tingling, chest pains, anxiety, the list goes on. But they said thryoid normal and of course nothing wrong with me. Like most of you went to a zillion doctors about a yr. ago. But decided I was just going to give my body time to get back to normal.

Has anyone had similar problems with their weight. I just don't get it, I couldn't feel healthier, or be any healthier with my activity and lifestyle, but I just feel like I'm getting bigger and bigger, and according to the scale I'm right!

Any thoughts would be great. Silke how are you feeling?
Thanks,
Hill

hi chris35.
sorry to hear you are still not doing well,i would not know whether it would be a good idea to go back on yasmin or not,i personally chose not to take anything at all but it is a question of trial and error i guess. it must be awful for you having bipolar disorder and having to cope with hormones making your moods fluctuate to. i am guessing that any test you have done you would need to pay for if you have no insurance? i don't know how it works as i live in the uk we have the national health service so do not pay for medical care. maybe you could ask your health care provider to run a hormone test to see what is going on? sorry for being absolutely no help but i just wanted to assure you that i have read your posts (and replied to a few i think?) and will continue to read them in the future incase i can help answer a question for you.

I HAVE BEEN ON METADONE FOR ABOUT 7 MONTHS NOW AND I AM UP 150 MGS A DAY, I HAVE FIBROMYALGIA AND THE PAIN IS JUST TERRIBLE MOST OF THE TIME, WHEN I FIRST WENT ON THIS DRUG I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS THE PERFECT DRUG, IT TOOK ALL OF MY PAIN AWAY, IT WAS SOMEWHAT CHEAP, AND MY DOCTOR WOULD GIVE ME ENOUGH OF IT TO TAKE CARE OF MY PAIN. HOWEVER ...I WAS ALWAYS A SMALL WOMAN THE MOST THAT I EVER WEIGHED WAS 150 PONDS AND THAT WAS WHEN I WAS 9 MONTHS PREGNANT WITH MY CHILDREN, I USED TO HAVE TO MAKE MYSELF EAT TO TRY AND GAIN WEIGHT..AFTER BEING ON METHDONE FOR ABOUT A MONTH I STARTED TO NOTICE THAT I HAD INTENSE CRAVINGS FOR SWEETS THAT I COULD NOT DENY...IT WAS LIKE NEEDING A HIT OF HERION OR SOMETHING.. NOW THAT LITTLE GIRL THAT USED TO HAVE TO TRY TO GAIN WEIGHT AND WHOS NORMAL WEIGHT WAS 115 POUNDS IS UP TO 162 POUNDS AFTER JUST 7 MONTHS ON THIS DRUG, I AM ONLY EATING ONE MEAL A DAY AND JUST HAVING A FEW BITES OF SOMETHING AT BREAKFAST..THE MORE I TRY TO DIET THE MORE WEIGHT I GAIN...SOMEONE HELP!! IS THERE ANY THING AT ALL THAT I CAN DO .. I CAN SOMEWHAT DEAL WITH THE CONSTIPATION THAT IS NEVER GOING AWAY AND I CAN DEAL WITH THE SWEATS THAT ARE HORRIBLE - I CAN EVEN DEAL WITH THE SLEEPINESS AT INAPPROPRIATE TIMES BUT I CAN NOT DEAL WITH ALL OF THIS FAT..THIS IS MAKING ME EVEN MORE DEPRESSED AND SUICIDIAL THAN I EVER WAS BEFORE METHADONE....I REALLY AM THINKING ABOUT TRYING ANOTHER DRUG BUT THEY ALL JUST COST SO MUCH.....ANY ADVICE FOR ME ABOUT THE WEIGHT GAIN???

Silke??

Are you out there? I was wondering did you ever have a saliva hormone test to profile your hormones? Not a blood test, a saliva test. Looking forward to your reply. Has anyone else out there done one??

Are you there? I have a question for you. Did you ever have a sputum test done for a hormone profile? If so, which ones? I had one done and my testosterone is low and my other androgen levels were borderline low. Im beginning to think the spiro in the yasmin depresses the androgens, at least in my case. If you log onto www.salivatest.com click on 24 hour hormone hotline in the second box down on the left side of the screen and then click on 630 androgens and testosterone listen to what the woman says testosterone is responsible for maintaining in your body. It explains a lot of what I am feeling because my testosterone is low. BY THE WAY I had hormone labs drawn 2 times at different dr offices, one did not even test testosterone, the other did but it came back "normal" I am looking into talking to a doctor who deals with natural hormone replacement. I am just wondering if you ever had a saliva hormone test done? Looking forward to your response. Bitter RN.

I had 3 lupron shots for endo. The pain from endo actually got a lot worse. After my third shot my doctor decided to give me a shot of depo provera. This was in a seven day time span. Has anyone done that before? It's almost been 2 years since my last shot, but I have been on depo provera almost a year and differant birth control pills with in this time span. Nothing seemed to help. My problem now is extreme anxiety and panic attacks with the memory problems. Has anyone had this problem after the discontinuation of lupron? I have almost every symptom of a hormone imbalance, but doctors say a hormone test won't show any thing. Can someone please give me your opinion. THANKS!!!

Hello Everyone!

Got the results back from my saliva hormone test and wanted to share them with you. I found out that my progesterone is extremely low. This is causing a lot of the anxiety I am having. I also found out that my DHEA levels are extremely high. I would strongly advise anyone who is having horrible side effects from the pill to have your hormones checked. I am now starting progesterone cream and pills. Anyone else have their hormones checked and if so what were your results?

I was curious to anyone out there if your doctor told you you were going through post partum depression? My doctor told me that it seems my sympotms are the same as someone who is going through ppd. Thought that it was kind of interesting because your body is thinking you are pregnant while you are on the pill because you are not ovulating. Same as when you are pregnant. Well, hope this sort of helps some of you out there....It has been about 4 months since off the pill and it seems like this will be a very slow process to being 100%.

God Bless to all of you!!
