On the evening after my insertion, 10/11/07, which was rather bloody and took two OBGYN"S to put in place, I began feeling very ill! Shivers, cold, sweats and a very high fever set in! I was sick and in pain! It was a horrible night!!! The next a.m. I phoned my M.D. and told him what happened. It was hard to tell for him if it was caused by the Mirena insertion or something else. However, he ordered me on antibiotics for 10 days. Three days after the antibiotics finished, I began itching severely, ALL OVER MY BODY and it has not stopped!!! I am scratching my skin off!!! The itch comes the inside and my skin welts up and hives show up. The intensity comes & goes. The areas of the body vary. However, I am continuously itching; at times in desperation!!! I have held back from the E.R. this weekend, awaiting for Monday to go to the Dr.s office. I heard from a Berlex Rep (my Brother), that in 5% of women, skin disorders have been reported!!! HOW NORMAL IS THIS??? I do not wish this side effect to anyone!!! It's horribly distressing & nerve wrecking!!! Not to mention, skin destroyer!!! I have sores from scratching throughout my body... I s till don't know if Mirena is the cause, but I have not been able to determine anything else responsible... I will let you know what happens...

I too experienced an indentation from a kenalog shot. My experience is a little different though, because I received the shots on my face for acne. I received four shots and two out of the four depressed / indented. I was EXTREMELY depressed and felt hopeless after reading it would take 6 months to a year (or more) to have my skin gash-free. I stayed up for two days straight searching for some sort of help on the internet and found a medical article about something called saline infiltration. It is a relatively new procedure and was created by "one of the best dermatologists in the country". I was so desperate, that the next morning I drove to see him in La Jolla, Ca (I live in LA). I received shots in the problem areas. It is now two days later and my indents are about 80% better!! He told me to give it another couple of days to see complete restoration, and if not, said that one more treatment should make everything 100% normal again. Needless to say, I am thrilled!! I do not know if this will work for any of your situations (being that the dr. is a dermatologist and the shot was initially given for acne), but I thought I would share my great news and hopefully help at least one person out there dealing with this mess.

I am so happy to have found this website. I started taking Yasmin 2 months ago and was only on it for 1 month. I began a round of Prednisone at the same time due to hurting my back. Well, while tapering off of the pred (going into my 3rd week of Yasmin) I had one night of NO SLEEP. In the morning my muscles were so tight and painful I could barely walk. My heart was racing, I was so dehydrated I could barely speak, my vision was blurry, I couldn't form sentences clearly my head was in such a fog and I had lost 5lbs literally overnight ( I am already extremely thin naturally, so this is not a good thing for me) I was skin and bones. My normally thick, shiny hair became dry, thin and brittle and my skin broke out horribly and I had painful diarrhea. This is just the physical symptoms. The mental symptoms were out of control. I was crying all the time, yelling at everyone and just being completely irrational. I truly thought I was dying. My doctor thought maybe I was having withdrawal from the pred. This continued for a week until I started researching about Yasmin. I immediately stopped taking it after reading the side effects people were having as they were the same as mine. Strangely, they were also the same as prednisone withdrawal, the only problem was that I was off the pred and still having symptoms. Over the following 2 weeks, they slowly got better. Then, it all started again for my next cycle just to a much lesser degree since I was off the BCP. This makes me certain that my symptoms were absolutely from the BCP and not the Pred. I am reaching the end of my period today and my weight has gone back up and I am again starting to feel better. I just hope next month will be normal again. The thing that makes me the most angry is that my doctor refuses to believe that any of it had to due with the BCP. I have been on plenty of BCP's and NEVER experienced anything like this. This stuff needs to be pulled from the shelves or doctors need to be more aware of it's potential side effects and quit discounting our intelligence. Thank you everyone for your posts.

Acid reflux, heart burn - Terrible heart burn. Definitely do NOT lay down for at least an hour after taking doxy. It felt like the 100mg capsule was stuck in my throat and trying to come back up. The painful burning just wouldn't stop. I honestly thought the capsule got stuck while I was sleeping and burned a hole in my throat. With such horribly painful and easily preventable side effects, why didn't anyone tell me?

I'm a new Yas user, and I must say I'm terribly dissapointed with it. I have broken out HORRIBLY(i used to be on Ortho-Tri for 5yrs no break outs). I got acne badly when i was 13-14 years old, and it calmed down until about 17(when i started ortho). I'm now 24 and have the worst acne I've ever had in my life.

I've only taken this for 3 weeks, every day, but I've gained almost 10lbs, i've had fatigue, contstant spotting and cramping, and the acne. The rest of my 3 months supply is being tossed in the trash.

After having taken various statins for over 8 yrs., my Doc decided my bad cholesterol wasn't coming down fast enough to suit him. A yr. ago, he put me on Vytorin, not the advised dosage, 10/40, but 10/80. I have been suffering from severe panic attacks for over 30 yrs., but they had been bought under control with meds..With the Vytorin, the panic attacks have started again, I am horribly depressed, afraid to go anywhere and panic at the thought of anyone coming to visit. I also have night sweats and muscle pain in my arms so badly it is agony to stretch. Muddled thinking, outbursts against those I love, inability to concentrate, etc. finally caused me to seek my own remedy. After reading of others' experiences with Vytorin, I put 2 and 2 together and stopped taking it on my own, My doc's gonna have a fit when he finds out. But 2 wks. after stopping, my energy levewl has returned the depression is not as bad and the panic attacks are easing. The bad pain is still there; don't know if that will ever go away.....

After a month of being on the NR I have noticed crazy mood swings, spouts of crying at the drop of a hat and nausea, big time. I thought this was because I was new to the birth control. Oh no, now due for my second month dose, about 8 hours after insertion, I got horribly sick (vomiting, cramping, cold sweat). I took it out. I am not putting it back in.

Depo, although I gained weight, was better than this.

I hated it, I was always tired, retaining water so horribly that if I pushed on my leg a mold of my fingerprint would remain. I had sore breasts and my skin was a bit more oily. Loss of libido as well. I changed to Levora and within a month my legs were back to normal, my chest is no longer sore and my libido is back.

I have been using the NuvaRing for anout 6 months now also and I feel sick to my stomach A LOT! I have little faint-dizzy spells and I feel bloated one day and the next I don't. I have some sharp paind in my stomach every now and then, but it is about 5 times a day. I have had MANY mixed feelings about the birth control method and think that I am about to switch.

I have only had it for a week and have had non-stop cramping, bleeding and bloating and back pain. I am hoping this all goes away. My biggest complaint was that the insertion was so horribly painful and I should not have driven myself home. The pain, nausea and dizziness was so severe. Doctors need to be WAY more up front about the initial pain and warn patients to have someone there to drive you home afterward.

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in April of this year (2007) kind of by accident through a routine checkup. I had gained a bit of weight over the past two years, but that was really my only symptom. I was begun on 75 mcg of a generic brand of Synthroid, levothyroxine. Since I began this medication, I have rapidly gained another 15 pounds despite a 1,000 calorie per day diet. I retain fluid horribly. My ankles, wrists, hands and face swell daily. My muscles ache, especially my legs, upon walking across a room. I'm fatigued, short of breath. My LDL cholesterol level has skyrocketed in only three months and now I'm being told I need to be on a statin drug. I cry frequently and feel uncharacteristically anxious and irritable, but this could be due to the frustration I am experiencing with the loss of my sense of well-being. In essence, I felt much better before being placed on the medication. I may, in fact, discontinue the medication totally and see if over time I begin to feel better. Like so many other stories I'm hearing, my doctor seems totally unconcerned.

On day 12 of a 14 day treatment of Septra DS the backs of my thighs began to itch. I thought I might have gotten a heat rash from the vinyl padded chairs at my work. Just to be safe I stopped the meds because I have a history of antibiotic allergies. That was on a Friday. By Monday afternoon I had to leave work early to rush to my doc who said I probably had a rash from the bronchitis I was treated for (something called viral exanthem). I didn't buy it but trusted the doc. Two days later I was in agony. I itched EVERYWHERE! Relentless horrible itching. I took 2 full strength benadryls every 3 hours to no avail. Tried calamine lotion, etc. Nothing worked. The doc finally gave me 40 mg of prednisone for 5 days. But it's day 3 of the steroid and I started itching horribly again last night.
I know it's the sulfa because I now remember some slight itching the last time I took it. So beware... itching on sulfa is a red flag... your skin is telling you something!

So I'll refer to today as Hell Day, the day when all the horrible symptoms of my birth control pill attack me at once and I literally cannot take it. I had this exact same thing happen when I was on the nuvaring, and I stopped it immediately. I'm willing to sacrifice having 100% safe sex if it means I don't have to feel like I'd rather shove a knife through my brain than exist. It's only my second month of Yasmin, and I'm feeling more fatigued than ever before in my life. I feel so horribly depressed. It's beautiful outside and I was lying on the grass, thinking only about being DEAD. I'm not one to be depressed. The only other time I've felt this awful was my third month into the Nuvaring. I specifically asked my doctor for something that wouldn't make me depressed, nor gain weight. Well, I gained about 5 pounds that won't come off no matter how hard I try, and the depression is just getting worse and worse. I'm stopping this pill tomorrow.

Other symptoms included:
*Initially: a sharp breathing pain under my left lung
*Weird, small rash on my leg
*Would rather be in bed than do anything
*Overwhelming feeling of loneliness, questioning self-worth, etc.

I too had chest pains!! That is something that they do no tell you.

This medication definitely needs to be re-evaluated by the FDA, to determine what damage it may do to your heart.

I was already seeing a psychiatrist for Panic disorder so I had valium at home. However, I still ended up in the ER for my chest pains after getting no call back from my dr for two weeks telling her that I was having all of the other side effects ( except the hair loss), tingling in the hands and feet, fatigue, moodiness, different tastes of things, especially colas.

Nevertheless, I was diagnosed at the ER with having a panic attack....DUHHHH, how could I possibly be having a panic attack when I had taken about 2 1/2 10 mg valium to try to get my chest to stop hurting. I explained to the ER dr. that I had started taking the topamax 3 weeks prior...There absolutely needs to be better education of this drug and its terrible side effects!!!

I started Yasmin on the first day of my period (Wednesday). I continued to take the pill as directed once a day at the same time, however started to experience dioherrea. One week later at night time I began vommitting every 15 minutes and had to see a doctor. I vommitted from 6pm-3am and was sick in the stomach (nausea) for 4 days following this. I ended up in the emergency room on the 10th day because the nausea had not subsided and my period had not yet stopped (11th day). The doctor and gyno put it down to the pill, 'Yasmin'. Just thought everyone should know that there are some horrible side effects to this pill and to be cautious, I was horribly sick for 5 days, unable to attend work and university.

I've only been on effexor for four months 75mg. I had taken prozac for 13 yrs due to some anxiety issues. I didn't feel that the prozac was helping me anymore so my Dr. switched me to effexor. I wish I had done more research on this drug- but I just went along trusting my Dr. my first symptom was an increase in anxiety! I started picking at my skin horribly and my blood pressure rose. After my next visit with my Dr. we decided that I should go off of it slowly. I can't believe how awful I feel- dizzy , tired, and sick. I'm so upset with myself for not looking into this. I'll be turning 50 in a few days and I feel like I've hit a low point in my life. I just want to feel better.

I am a slender, athletic woman who is now potentially scarred for life by this horrible drug. In July 2006 I was given kenalog injections bilaterally for bursitis by a rheumatologist. In early October I noticed the development of a large indentation on my right hip. During a consultation with another doctor regarding my ongoing hip pain, I was told that this dent was caused by kenalog and would likely never go away. I confronted the rheumatologist who administered the injections and she pretended to be unaware of this as a result of injections and ordered an mri claiming that my horribly disfigured hip could be caused by a pinched nerve (said with a straight face). Well, the MRI confirmed the kenalog caused my dent, and I read on Bristol Myers Squibb's kenalog information site that local fat atrophy is caused by improper administration of the injection. Rheumatologist claims a plastic surgeon can fix this. I am consulting an attorney because this screams negligence.

I took just two doses of Levaquin for a sinus infection. The first was before bed. I lied awake all night, with brief periods of dosing off, but would rapidily have distrurbing, odd images. In the middle of the night, I got up to discover that my calves and ankles hurt really bad. I didn't associate any of this to the Levaquin. The next morning I took dose 2. I am a school teacher. At work that morning, I couldn't function. I kept becoming confused, disorientated and paranoid. My Principal, concerned, sent me to the ER. That night, I still had disturbing images and felt horribly "drugged" all day. Luckily, I found out what was causing my symptoms, but for a while I was scared. I thought I was losing my mind!!! Really!!! I will never take this drug again.

I have been on Nuvaring for 2 months now. I have noticed that I have had a very thick, mucousy discharge, nauseated all the time, and have severe mood swings. I can be really happy one day and the next I totally hate EVERYBODY! I feel absolutely CRAZY!! and as for sex drive...what's that? My husband is always wanting to have sex and I look at him and say,"Dude, are you freaking kidding me? You want to have sex...AGAIN?" and that is so not me. I am nothing like what I used to be before I started it. And I don't know if anyone else has had this weird side effect, but I get really dizzy and lightheaded and tingly. And I have passed out once. Not sure if it's the ring, but I have been constantly dizzy and lightheaded since. I don't dare pick up my children for fear of dropping them. I also have been sleeping HORRIBLY. It takes me at least 4 hours to get to sleep at night. Then, once I finally do, I wake up a million times a night. And all these symptoms seem to progressively be getting worse. I thought they might get better as time went on...no way! i am stopping this thing on sunday!!! The convenience is really nice, but is so not worth the crazy way it makes me feel!!

I'm glad I wandered across this page. I have been on Yasmin for almost two weeks and I finally decided that I couldn't take it any more. I have hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) and the pill exacerbated the effects. I was barely able to get out of bed and missed several days of class. Yesterday, I experienced some slight vertigo and when I lay down on the bed I experienced a spinning sensation. At times my heart beats fast and at others I get chest pains and it feels like my lungs are burning. My complexion has gone to hell. I have a lot more acne than usual. Also, hot and cold flashes. Yesterday I felt feverish and thought maybe I was getting sick. Sometimes the nausea gets to the point where I think I might vomit.
These symptoms are in no way bad compared the Ortho Evra patch that I tried a couple years ago. It made me paranoid and lethargic. I threw up a lot. I locked myself in my room and had horribly violent dreams. I also developed a severe rage problem that came out of absolutely nowhere! There were times when I thought that I was loosing my mind. I think maybe I was a bit. The paranoia was awful and it fundamentally changed me as a person. I think birth control is sceary. I think I'm going to stick to condoms and spermacide from now on.

Guest 37262-

The swelling of the breast is due to adding an un-natural hormone to your body. It is an increase to the existing progesterone and estrogen naturally occuring in your body. We all have progesterone and estrogen receptors in our breasts-that is often why many women's breasts grow when taking hormones. Its not really a healthy thing although many women think its great, I think its actually what's causing breast cancer as there are so many women and the #'s growing. My own personal experience is that it doesn't go away until you go off of all hormones.

On the gaining weight, it sounds like you are one of the unusual women to gain/rather than lose weight on Yasmin. Watch that, discuss with your OBGYN and pay special attention to every other symptom that may develop.

Yasmin is really not a good birth control pill. There are so many women on this site and the new one in the UK who have suffered horribly with serious symptoms. so my recommendation would be to get off it and practice natural protection/non-hormonal methods.

I had abdominal surgery without knoweledge of a clotting disorder and ended up with portal vein thrombosis. Ive been on coumadin for 2 months and despite the fact that I eat healthy and consistently, and am extremely fitness-oriented, this medicine has been just awful. I'm making my way down the list of side-effects!
nausea, abdominal cramping, fever, chills, spontaneous numbness in fingers and toes, purple discoloration in skin, fatigue and weakness, reflux, vomiting blood which landed me in the hospital for 3 days, a red rash all over the face, blurred vision and horribly dry eyes, slight jaundice, memory lapse, difficulty focusing.....and hair loss.
i really though I was making this all up in my mind so I am so relieved to see I'm not imagining these symptoms!
