Good grief I just left the Doctor to get my annual pap.. I was curious about
the Mirena.. She said it was great da da da da.. I get the baby in bed and
get on here first thing oh my god is this really all true?
Now, I have a question isn't a lot of these side affects similar to the birth control pill? And with me being a smoker other than surgery what either options do other women have.. I do have really bad periods,I have to change every hour for seven days. And I did miss carry twice before my two children for lack of progesterone. So do you think this might be Okay for me?
Since my lat baby 14 months ago I have had symptoms of acne, weight gain, hair loss so maybe this will reverse it for me? what do you think?
Help from a woman who would like to have sex without wondering if I'm going to get pregnant I am 32 I think I'm way to old to have another baby..

Hi all,
I have just come across this web site as I have just been diagnosed with Crohn's Deisease so I was checking out a medication called ''Prednisone'' apparently a terrible drug. I am amazed to find that so many people find Yasmin Contraceptive so horrific. I have been taking Yasmin for the past six years it was my own little Miracle. I have no side affects, I would even go as far to say that I'm a better person on than off it. All other Pills did not agree with me in any way, mood swings, no sex drive, white vagina lumps on my back, migraine but since taking Yasmin I have nothing.
If all other Pill fails don't give it a try cause for me it was the only thing that worked, I hope the Prednisone works as well for my Crohn's which I am sure it wont.
:-)

I took one injection of Lupron for fibroids in Nov. 2001. It totally changed my life, I am no longer the same person I was before. It started with severe migraine headaches for 14 days straight and attacks of nausea, lack of appetite. I used to have a strong stomach - now I was very easily nauseated. I never went for the second shot. I began to have panic attacks regularly (I had not had them for over 20 yrs). I was tired all the time, and a person who used to work out at the gym 5 days a week - eventually I quit. Now I just walk. I feel about 65 yrs old (I am just 49). I look old, my face began to droop, my hair thinned. I had bouts of depression coupled with general anxiety. My migraines worsened. My sex drive dropped to zero, I feel almost "sexless". I used to be confident, now I was afraid of everything. I now suffer from irritable bowel syndrome - with bouts of diarrhea, bloating and severe gas pains. I have trouble eating sometimes.. I have had all the tests and no one can find anything wrong with me,and none of the doctors think all these problems are due to Lupron. But, I know - I was NOT like this before Lupron. It ruined my life. I just wish my doctor would have informed me of all the terrible side effects - she only told me about hot flashes. I looked into suing her for malpractice but the lawyers said they could not build a case with no real medical evidence that my symptoms are caused by Lupron. I just wish I had known then what I know now. I tell everyone - NEVER take Lupron. Six years later and I still feel like this. Oh what I wouldn't give to have not taken that drug.

I've been taking Femcon for about three months now, and while I haven't noticed 'typical' side effects i.e. weight gain (I've actually lost weight), moodiness/PMS, breast tenderness, etc., I've had my period THREE times in one month. They've been true periods, too, complete with cramps and fatigue. It's so frustrating.

I've also experienced a severe UTI while taking this pill; I thought it was due to sex, but upon reading an earlier post I can't help but wonder if it was from this pill. The pain was horrific, and I have a high pain threshold. I went to urgent care and had to have my boyfriend drive because I was in such severe pain. It felt like I had thrown my back out (pain was centered in my lower back).

I've been on and off birth control since I was 17 - for 6-7 years I took Ortho Tricyclen with no side effects, then the patch (which I absolutely HATED), and now have been trying different pills (Tricyclen, Tricyclen Lo and Femcon) to see what works best for me (I'm now 29) since I plan to take the pill continuously again.

Overall, I'd highly recommend Ortho Lo. I felt great, didn't appear to gain any weight and it made my period very light and as pleasant as possible (if that is possible!). Unfortunately, there is no generic for Lo and with insurance it's still $50/month. However, it's worth the extra money....I mean, who wants to perpertually bleed and feel like crap? Not me.

during the first month of using NR i got my first ever yest infection. i went to the doc and got medicen and it went away. well hours after inserting the NR for the second month i felt like i was getting another one so i got my perscription refiled and it didn't go away... everything got really worse... horrific even. I took the NR out hopeing maybe it would lesson the pain. well when i finally got in to see the doctor. she told me i had herpes. i haven't got my test results yet to know if i just now got it or if it's someting i've had without having symptomes. i'm scared to put the NR back in b/c i know birth control can "trigger" outbreaks and i'm scared to death of another one. should i try putting it back in? i'm not in any hurry to have sex but when i do i need to be extra sure i'm not going to get pregnant. any feed back would be very appreciated.

I was originally put on Yasmin because of my PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome). I was taking it for about 2-3 years and just stopped about a month and 1/2 ago and I am experiencing horrific headaches. They are sudden and on the left side behind my eye. There is no warning. They are like migraines but they are piercing pain not throbbing. Could the cessation of taking Yasmin be the cause? I hurt almost daily and I'm so sick of it. Also I haven't had a period yet.

Daughter 19 was treated for depression with 10mg of Lexapro for 4 months and developed every horrible side effect- seritonin toxic reactiom- stomach, headaches, insomnia, lethargy, nightmares, appetite, etc.. Weaning off slowly with increased side effects. Finally clear after two weeks of hell and Mono. Slept 10 hours a day, could not swallow, depressed by recent events but managed to go abroad for 6 weeks a month later and seemed much better. Just before she left she began taking Loestrin24 FE and has been on it for 4 months. She has been having a variety of abdominal symptoms, headaches, insomnia, cramps, lethargy, weight gain, nausea.mood swings. Of course she is having stess about her furure and her horrific recent experiences and is very sensitive to medication. A half of a 5mg. Lunesta knocks her out. The only medication she is taking is Loestrin24 FE. Tonight I decided to look up the side effects of this pill that she seemed to tolerate well (no breakthrough bleeding, shorter periods) and could this be the cause of her problems? She is going to a doctor very soon but now is off our health care plan (magic-19 and she left college) so we cannot run from one specialist to another. Anyone have any advice or similar experience?

10/18/2007 I was diagnosed with adult onset asthma 4 years ago. I have been on Flovent HFA 110MG (2) puffs every morning. That seemed to be working fine but about a month ago my asthma got worse. My Doctor prescribed Advari 250/50 twice a day. I took my first does Monday (10/15) and within 4 hours had a horrific migraine, such horrific pressure in my head I thought I was going to pass out. I threw away the Advair IMMEDIATELY however, 4 days later, my headache is better but still there a bit - that intense pressure is coming and going in waves, heartburn that has made me sick to my stomach and I feel this AWFUL pressure and soreness on the sides of the neck and in my throat. Has anyone else experienced this? Any idea when I can expect some relief? Thank you to everyone who posted - it made me feel so much better.

My Doctor made it sound like Advair was the best drug EVER -- that is so wrong.

I have read a ton of the posts in this category. I have been taking Lisinopril as an addition to my regular blood pressure medication for approximately 3 years, with absolutely no problems. My 10mg was increased to 20mg a week ago. Still no problems. It has only helped me. If there are any changes, I will definitely post it. I believe that symptoms can arise from reading an article. I actually know a couple people who read things, and suddenly they are convinced they have the problem or disease referenced. I call it an Epidemic of Diagnoses. Always seek a doctors advice before stopping medications. Stopping suddenly on certain drugs, can be more dangerous than taking them.

I started getting panic, palpitations, anxiety, bouts of crying, no sex drive, odd taste in my mouth. I only had the taste and lack of libido since early on but felt fine and than whammo the crying and palpitations and anxiety hit. I asked the doctor if it could be the Yasmin even tho id been on it for a while, i got the royal fob off and some lame comment about 'us girls doing funny things sometimes' whatever that means!!!!! It got worst, i couldnt stand to be in the college where id gotten the palpitations to start with so dropped out and i couldnt understand why, but i was cool to still work nearby the college, I had some odd behaviour tho, like i suddenly couldnt park on the ground level for fear of the levels collapsing, i was scared of dying, of freak events, of flying and i LOVED flying, the syptoms waxed and waned and then a few months lather while still having intermittent anxiety a stressful period popped up and that was it i was gone, worst time of my life, allergies, nauseus, paranoia, depression, nightmares, horrific mental images and distressing thoughts, suicidal thoughts. Crux of it was it sucked big time!!!! That was 3 years ago and im still trying to put myself back together! The original syptoms did get better with time but ive never been quite the same.

Horrific drug. I was prescribed it for anxiety-related insomnia, but only took half-doses (7.5 mg) every third night or so. Still, I began having sharp electric jolts in my head upon awakening, eventually getting to the point that I was afraid to sleep for fear of the terrifying explosions in my head that would be triggered by saccadic ocular motion, pulse, or sometimes nothing at all. They go away within about 10-30 minutes. The net effect on sleep was devastating, of course, and with its "20-40 hour" half-life and the rule of thumb that it takes 7 half-lives to clear, even 6 days after my last dose I have been feeling residual effects. This is apparently rare and your mileage may vary, but the doc can be very quick to prescribe something that's dangerously powerful. Flushing these nasty things!

Hi.. I have been researching birth control pills for a while now, as I knew I wanted to take them for acne and irregular periods. The doc gave me yasmin so I narrowed my googling and got a bit of a scare, after all the discussions I've read it almost seems now that it has a life of it's own.. it is a "DEMON PILL" that "RUINS LIVES" and it's "NOT WORTH IT" .................. but as someone who has never been on birth control at all before I'm trying not to be convinced that it will do nothing but make my problems worse, and I think I'd like to put it out there that you only hear the negative in places like this and all potential side effects ARE already listed right in the package. Everyone is different.. so I'll continue to try to read comments by girls who have been on it for as long as me.. So far it's only been a week, but already some girls describe horrific side effects of which I've experienced NONE. Maybe it's mind over matter lol I'm quite determined to have this work for me. Anyway just saying to anyone like me who is reading these.. if it's been prescribed to you don't be afraid to try it just because it didn't work out for someone else, NOT saying horrible side effects don't happen, it's very clear that they do.. but don't let the negative convince you so easily that all of a sudden it's all yasmin's fault that your life sucks.. try believing it might make it better!

Flagyl has been used with Septra to treat a bacterial infection that resulted from an infected cyst in my rectal area. Below I've listed some of the horrific side effects I think are from this medication. I'm going to ask the surgeon tomorrow.

I am 52 years old. Omnicef was prescribed to me for an ear and sinus infection. I took the medication for five of the ten days prescribed. Praise God, I did not take the remaining five days. Otherwise, I believe I would be in the hospital! I missed three days of work due to non-stop diarrhea, fever, stomach cramps and rumbling, muscle and joint pain. I cannot begin to describe the pain this medication causes. It was been 17 days since my first dose of this horrific drug and I am still having stomach issues. PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU TAKE THIS DRUG! I WILL NEVER TAKE IT AGAIN.

My 56 year old son. Jim, is Bipolar. He was taking three medications, one of them being Topamax. The Dr. that prescribed this medication died and the new Drs. thought Jim was doing fine so they continued on with the same medication. Jim became fecal incontinent. We did numerous medical tests to see if this had any basis. None was found. Over a years period (Jim's third year using Topamax) Jim began losing his memory. This doesn't sound too horrific unless you know that Jim has 160 IQ and total recall memory. He never had to read anything more than once and he could quote verbatim almost anything from any page. Total recall of phone numbers and names, etc. At first the Drs said this was early onset of Alzheimer’s. He was being cared for by this time with a battery of Drs. Neurologists, medical, psychiatrists and doing some very extensive testing. Finally it was judged that no, Jim does not have Alzheimer’s. However he continued to quickly decline. He by now was both urinary and fecal incontinent. His speech was slurred and he was unable to bath himself. He required around the clock help. He would ask me questions like, did I go to school? Did we live as so and so town? Then he asked, is my name Jim? This was hard to hear but then he quit talking altogether, was staggering and would respond to telling him walk this way or sit here but little else. Finally the Neurologist told me he was almost certain that Jim had a rare brain disease and it was always fatal within a year. He determined that Jim was in the advanced stages and probably had 2 to 6 weeks to live. I was devastated! Jim was sitting in the office when the Dr. said this and he made no recognition that he heard or understood anything.

I started talking to friends about this and one of them said call her friend a paralegal nurse practioner. I did and she asked me "Why is Jim taking Topamax"? My answer I consider rather stupid now but then it was the truth, I answered "because the Dr. prescribed it". She said, titrate him off Topamax and then call me. I went to his Dr. at the time and the Dr. was most reluctant to take Jim off this medication. He accused me of "playing Dr" and was most insulting. I persisted and said if he wouldn't I would change Drs. Later I understand he took Jim off much too fast and we did have really serious side affects. We halved his dosage every two days and in 6 days he was off Topamax. Jim went into a catatonic state for several hours at a time about four times. There was about 4 days and nights that neither of us got any sleep. He had repetitive thoughts that nearly drove him crazy (His words). The sixth day Jim started talking but then would go into these catatonic states for hours. When he came out of them he would talk and explain some things, then he would quit talking again and he later explained the thoughts were going so fast in his head this was the only way he could preserve his sanity was to just "blank out".
After about two weeks of this intense illness and no help from his Dr. and Jim refused to go into the hospital, in his talking moments he said they would just fill him with sedative drugs and he wanted to get as clear as possible from these. To make a very long story short this was one year ago, three Doctors ago and Jim was relieved from his repetitive thoughts by Fluvoxamine, but that spiked him into a manic phase and eventually he went into the hospital. He is on a complete new regime of meds now but we always research any new med BEFORE taking it. It will never be just "because the Dr. prescribed it" again. By the way, Jim was taking lithium at the time Topamax was originally prescribed and gaining a lot of weight. His original RX was for weight control~! It didn't work but it nearly killed him. I called the paralegal back to thank her but she had left the law firm and no one can locate her. Our Guardian Angel????

This is not a "new" side effect but I have to let everyone know about the acne!!! I've always had horrific cramps, heavy bleeding, and periods that lasted 8 days. So, Mirena turned out to be great for all of that! I hardly even know when my period is coming, it's barely even there.

HOWEVER.....the acne is so bad i can't stand it! it never lets up! and they leave scars. as soon as one huge pimple is gone, another takes it's place. I'm beginning to think about having it removed. This is the worst acne I've ever had. Consider this before you get one...

Sucess Story:

I am a 38 yo female, I have severe endo, I had a bowel re-section because it ate through a portion of my small intestine. I just received my 6th shot today, and my doctor and I agreed that I am going to start the regiment over next month. (another 6 mths)

I have actually had an okay experience with Lupron. I have had hot flashes, night sweats, moodiness, and bone/joint pain and headaches. These symptoms seem to occur more toward the end of the month within a week or so of getting my next shot.

The symptoms are not fun, but neither are they unbearable. I have a good quality of life and the symptoms do not interrupt that in any way.

Additionally, sorry if this is TMI, but I have had no drop in my sex drive/urges, things just take a little longer to get going. My partner understands this and is most supportive.

Every day I take:
Multi-vitamin
Calcium/Magnesium supplement: 1000 mg Calcium/667 mg Mag
Omega 3 Fish Oil: 1000 mg
Vitamin B12: 100 mcg
I drink quite a bit of soy milk also

Good luck to those of you who are either on it, or considering it. My empathy to those who are having a horrific time with it.

I started taking Lipitor Sept, 2006. Soon after I thought I had the flu and was really sick for about 3 weeks. I assumed the muscle pain was due to the flu. I've felt really tired, aches all over, muscle pain, horrible lower back pain (I also have 2 bulging discs but the pain is worse than it's ever been) and I can't sleep a whole night through. I wake up in the middle of the night due to pain in my hands (the joints in my fingers almost feel like there's fluid around them and it's hard to move them), or back and leg pains. For the last month the pain in the arches of my feet and heels have been getting worse, to the point that I can't walk without pain. I have to have good suppory tennis shoes on at all times to be able to walk. The aches and pains started slowly and kept adding up so I just didn't pin point any one thing as the source of my problems. When my husband watched me hobble into the kitchen tonight he told me that everything started after my physical in Sept. The only medication that was added to my daily meds was Lipitor. (the only other med I take is 1/2 of a .25 HCTZ for slight elevated bp) I am schedule an appt with my doctor ASAP but I think I will stop taking Lipitor as of tomorrow. If the pain is reduced then I will be able to report that I believe Lipitor to be the culprit.

I've been using the patch for @ a month..From day one I have been vomiting, dizzy, down with severe headaches, have very little to no appetite, loss of strength, forgetting @ 80% of what I do, sleep to much or not at all, my husband says that I've become very moody, I have no will power, no patience at all, the list can go on forever........I feel as if my pain has gotten worse......I really hope that nobody else will ever or has ever gone through the same......If so, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO COPE w/ or MAKE IT NOT BE SO HORRIFIC?

i'm so glad i found this site. i started taking bc pills again in feb 04. in feb 05, i switched to yasmin because i heard so many good things about it and the other pills were making me sick. when i'm finished with this pack, i'm not refilling it. here's my experience with yasmin: the good: my period is regular, no breakouts, period is lighter and shorter, no worries about getting pregnant. the bad: still get cramps, boobs hurt all the time and am spilling out of my bra, facial discolorations, feel bloated all the time. the ugly: horrific migraines (never had them before), anxiety and depression and i'm a happy person. i'm doing a detox cleanse to get myself back to normal when i'm off. for now, i'll take my chances with condoms and natural methods. nothing is worth what i've been going through. thank you all for sharing your experiences because i thought i was just going crazy.

My Doctor must really hate me! That is what I keep telling myself after my first Lupron injection. It has been absolutely horrible. Sure, my fibroid pain is better, but that is a small consolation compared to the migraines, hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings (very severe and un able to control) , memory loss and just kind of brain fog all day long, and horrific joint pain. All of which keeps me awake all night. It's been so bad I can't even appreciate the fact that the pelvic pain is better. I just pray these side effects will not cause permanent damage. I think our doctors need a good shot in the butt of Lupron for prescribing this stuff!

I do realize though that this drug has helped many people who are suffering with endo and that not everyone will experience these side effects. You will not know what your body is going to do until you try it. I don't know what the percentage is of people who do suffer while on the drug, but I just know I am definitely in that percentage and will NEVER take another injection of this stuff and will look over my doctors shoulder to make sure he writes in my records not to ever give me this stuff again!

My 70 year old mother starting taking Fosamax a few weeks ago because her bone density test showed she had osteoporosis. She became quite ill soon afterwards, said she had the worst headache of her life, couldn't eat, had nausea, severe head pain, and dizziness. She was in bed for a week. Her doc said maybe it was a swollen temporal artery (huh?), and put her on strong pain meds, which she said didn't even touch the pain. After reading the other comments on this website, I called her and told her to not take another dose. Merck is being sued over this drug. How many women have to suffer horrific side effects, including loss of their jaws, before they pull this crap off the market?? It's all about maximizing their profits, folks, and those pharmaceutical companies will ruin your health with their poisons to make a buck.
