I just started my second pack of pill yesterday and I don't know if I like these pills. I am taking zoloft also for anxiety and my side effects are horrilble. I have had a hard time falling asleep (I literally have to lay in bed with my eyes closed for hours before falling asleep), I have terrible nigh sweats and wake up drenched in sweat, I sleep all day long, I have horrific nightmares which I never had before, and massive headaches.
I am not sure if I want to stay on the pill, I know it is only my second month and it takes a couple months to regulate but the side effects are ruining my social life. I feel like a zombie.
About the third week in my first pack i started spotting (or what I thought was spotting). It lasted 8 days, and my normal period was only 6 days. I bled just as much as on my normal period and has severe cramps as well. The only reason I got my 'period' was because I was about an hour off on taking my pill the previous day. It is pathetic.
Has anyone else had these symptoms? Or have any suggestions on better birth control pills.?
Oh and I am 18 years old.

I'm a 61 year old female who has been on Singular and Asmanex (puffer) for about 3 weeks. My sinuses are greatly improved and so has the cough. HOWEVER, I have had horrific nightmares, and last night, (obviously sleepwalking) went downstairs, had a left over taco (one of two) and went back to bed. Today, I went to have a taco for lunch, found just the one, and asked my husband if he had the other last night, NOPE! He was even asleep on the couch, guess I was quiet, but I always microwave on a paper plate, with one on top, found in the garbage. Last week I was sad, for no reason, and I have had bruising. "Sleeping with snakes and tacos."

My 8 yr old has been on singulair since May. I never put two and two together until reading these posts. He has been having anxiety at night..crying and looking terrified saying he can't stop the scary thoughts in his head. Tonight I felt so bad for him...because I can't make it go away. I am hoping with tonight being the last night on singulair he will not have such a hard time at night. He also says it's very hard to get to sleep at night. Poor kid. I also know he's a sensitive kid but it seems a bit overboard in the last few months....like getting upset and just not knowing how to handle his emotions so he just shuts down. Please message me if you've had similar experiences. I'm calling his dr. on Monday to figure out some other options if there is any. My son started with a cough in March and finally took him to see the dr. in May and she heard wheezing and started him on singulair and then added zyrtec. I know they control his coughing (wheezing...slight asthma) because if we miss a dose he coughs all day the next day. I'm a bit scared to go off it...but hope it stops the anxiety and moodiness. He had his first asthma attack last week too...and I wasn't prepared as we never have had to use the inhaler...so I didn't have it with us. Anyway, hoping he doesn't get too bad taking him off...and I hope he is able to control the scary thoughts by going off of it too.

I'm an adult female with severe sinus polyps, adult onset asthma and allergies. Initially Singular seemed to be helping my nasal polyps, when nothing else helped in any way. I made several attempts to use Singular, and proved repeatedly that this medication did, in fact, cause me severe side effects - even when I used a childs dosage. While using an adult rx for Singular, I immediately began experiencing horrific nightmares (which I have never had in my entire life). I also had extreme knife like pains in both ears, which made me feel like I had a severe ear infection, chest pains where it felt like a cinder block was lying on my chest, and migraine like headaches (which I've never had). I stopped the medication after about a week and the nightmares went completely away, but it took me a couple weeks to recover completely because I developed what felt like a respiratory infection and ear infection as soon as I stopped using it. Because Singular seemed to slightly reduce my nasal polyps on my first attempt, my allergist suggested I try using it again - almost a year later. When I first began, I completely forgot about the negative side effect and why I stopped using it in the first place, and just gave it another try. I again experienced the same horrific nightmares, ear pains, but this time got a strange rash/cluster of blisters under both eyelids which my eye doctor confirmed was an allergic reaction to something I was using. Singular was the only medication I had changed. My allergist thought I should give it longer to see if the symptoms went away (because they probably weren't caused by this medication - and were due to something else ???). Fearing going to sleep, I decided to try taking the medication in the morning instead of night, and had my physician reduce my rx to a childs dosage (5mg). The nightmares lessened, and the blisters under my eyelids went down, so I continued using Singular for about a years time. What I didn't realize, was that over this time I was becoming depressed, fatigued, and became easily agitated and short-tempered, which was very different since I was normally a very happy, energetic mom. My nasal breathing seemed to be slightly improved, so I just kept taking the medication - not realizing that it was causing all of the other problems I was experiencing. I became so fatigued and depressed feeling, that all I wanted to do after I got my kids off to school was to sleep until it was time to pick them up in the afternoon. I was also experiencing stomach pains for unknown reasons. I was certainly not myself. I didn't realize that while I was using Singular I had lost complete interest in everything that I normally loved in my life. And please note I'm 45 years old, and I was using a childs dosage. ( I can only imagine what this medication does to a child. )Fortunately for me, I accidentally forgot to refill my prescription for a few days and noticed that my depression started to improve. I decided not to refill my rx and stay off it to see if I continued to improve - and I have. Unfortunately, even though my depression has all but gone away, I'm experiencing symptoms which must be from withdrawal of the medication - and they are just as scary as the side effects were. Now that I'm not taking Singulair any more (and I've made no other medication changes), I have extreme fatigue beyond belief, and ache everywhere. My muscles are in such pain that I'm having difficulty doing things I would normally do. I have extreme weakness in both arms and legs, and my back aches almost constantly. And strangly enough, my asthma and allergies have slightly improved since stopping Singular - I thought for sure my allergies/asthma would worsen when I stopped completely - but they did not. All I can say is - please trust what your body is telling you - even if your physician tells you otherwise, and do not use this medication or any other if you experience adverse side effects to it. I would never give this medication to a child that wasn't old enough to tell me what he/she was experiencing, and would document the childs temperament, ailments if any, and what changed once the medication was started - and discontinue it immediately if even one adverse side effects occurred. One last note - I am still experiencing vision problems, which I feel are due to using this medication. Hopefully, no other permanent damage to my body will result from the Singular that I've already used - and I hope you Singular users will recover completely too from its dangerous side effects. Wishing you the best of health!

I was searching for a site with the side effects of Singulair for my son who is 10 and has been taking Singulair since he was 2. It was a life-saving drug for him and his life has been wonderful since then (as far as asthma goes). He is a very athletic boy who plays every sport he can and he is still a little overweight with cellulite and love handles. I had heard that maybe it might be the Singulair so I decided to check it out. Little did I know about all of these other side effects. He's been taking it for so long that I assumed his depressed personality was just the way he was. He has also had such horrific nightmares and he's convinced he has a ghost in his room that shakes his bed that I was really starting to consider that maybe he might. His brother sleeps in the same room and does not have any of these experiences (also on Singulair). I am SHOCKED! I only read about 20 entries but I'm going to read more. Has anyone had the weight gain problem? Thank you for anything you can share.

I am 23 years old. I was prescribed Levaquin 750mg for a uti. I took my first pill at 3:00pm yesterday. That night, I wasn't able to sleep. I layed in bed, so tired, just wanting to fall asleep but couldn't. Then the cold sweats and trouble breathing started. By 2:00 a.m. I was having what I can only describe as a panic attack. It's 1:00pm the next day, and i've never felt this bad. THIS MEDICINE IS NOT GOOD.

I took Levaquin for five days, beginning on June 5th. My doctor gave them to me in the individual "blister packs", not in the box or with any pamphlet. I had/have horrible joint pain in my ankles, knees, and hips. The pain in my hands and wrists is almost gone, but the rest is still there and, in some areas, getting worse. I called the doc. and told them about my problem, they said all the side effects should go away after about 72 hours from the last dose. Has not happened, its been over a month and my left ankle and hip are worse. Does anyone have any advice? I'm ******

Took only one Doxy, caused tremendous stomach pain. Subsided as day went on and felt ok. Went to bed and slept only a short time, awoke because of nightmares, hallucination type nightmares, very scary. I have checked around nightmares w/doxy are common. Very exhausted today will not take again until I hear from Md. Taking for Lyme Disease & I know symptoms can increase (herxing), but I believe this was side effect related.

Within 5 days of beginning course of Geodon, 40mg daily, doc doubled my dosage to 80mg, began to have problems. Intensely manic, easily frightened, insomnia, terrifying dreams. I decided to get out of hospital ASAP and decide if to quit taking Geodon.
On day six already my face was twitching, was irritable and manic, pacing, increasingly manic throughout day, decided to skip evening dose, keep total dosage same as before, 40mg. Began tripping around midnight and it was all downhill from there. Sleepless all night, by morning I had convulsions, increased heart rate, fear and anxiety, psychosis, uncontrollable crying. Had another seizure 12 hours later. Slept a little with help of Valium. Next day developed Parkinson's like symptoms, had my father not been there to help me, Lord knows what would have happened to me. Still awake in day 3 of withdrawal. Hoping the worst is over.

I am a healthy, 36 year old woman and on 3/18/07 I was hospitalied for a blood infection caused by e.coli and was given levaquin intraveinously (sp?) during that time. Upon release from the hospital I was given a perscription for 750mg once daily for 10 days. In the hospital, I was having TERRIBLE HEADACHES- borderline migraines, HORRIFIC NIGHTMARES and was also sweating profusely throughout the night. When I got home and began taking the prescription pills, I continued to have the nightmares, nightsweats and headaches but then started having ODD TINGLING SENSATIONS IN MY LEGS, DEPRESSION, BACK PAINS & TERRIBLE NECK STIFFNESS/CRAMPING as well as INSOMNIA. (Right now it's 2:53 am and I am up writing this email). I am also noticing some pain in the tendons in my ankles and feet. After I read these postings I immediately flushed these pills down the toilet. I believe that these postings saved me from further suffering and possible long term damage. At this point, the cons of the medication seem to definitely outweigh out the pros. I am a mother of three (two of whom are under three yrs old) and I can't afford to have any lingering and/or debilitating side effects. Good luck to all and may God bless and keep you.

PS - It may be helpful if future posters would include their ages and health status pre-levaquin to help others in ascertaining risks, etc.

I have been off birth control since 2003. I had been taking Alesse and started to get terrible mood swings and horrific nightmares. I quit taking the pill all together and felt great. I recently decided to try the pill again. My doctor put me on Yasmin as a day 1 start. I started 3/11/06, I instantly gained weight, had terrible mood swings, headaches, breast tenderness and unstoppable "break thru bleeding." The final straw was when I woke myself and my boyfriend up with blood curling screams from a night terror. That was it, I quit cold turkey. The last day I took the pill was 3/26, since I wasn't on it very long I'm hoping I won't have any side effects while it gets out of my system however I have noticed that I have been extremely clumsy. I've been constantly dropping things, spilling things and I have even went so far as to cut my hand while washing dishes to the point of needing stitches. Has anyone ever had anything like this happen to them?

Hey all,

thanks for your posts. I feel a bit better now i have come off it. I got a period today even though i had my last just 2 weeks ago, obviously an effect of stopping midway through a packet.

Had another night of horrific nightmares, and slept badly, but for the first time in ages i have had 2 days where i have been able to switch off, even though i have strayed to the same thoughts they have been easier to stop and turn off and they are not there the whole time, that is major improvement!

Going to doc tomorrow so will talk to him about that. In germany so must do it all in german, i think some stuff gets lost in translation!

Will be happy when these death thoughts disappear, it is like i have a major obsession with it, is very depressing. My dreams are full of it, and i hate that, my poor boyfriend gets no sleep for me screaming constantly in my sleep!

I can't wait to see how this pill works, it would be nice to think of the future and not imagine it wont be there cos i won't be there to see it, i might start to enjoy what i have for once. I told my family about my problems and somehow it seems a bit better. Going home to england for a week on friday so we will see.

Thanks for your support, i hope you all are doing ok, i'm glad to know i am not the only one, but why has no drug company or doctors realised this???

Started on Levaquin 500 mg five days ago for a sinus infection and suffered severe cramps in my back after on it for less than 12 hrs. The cramps have fortunately largely abated by now, but last night I woke up with acid reflux and decided to take OTC Prilosec for it. An hour later I experienced the most vivid and horrific nightmares of my life! I couldn't get out of them and they felt like waking hallucinations. Would be interested in whether anyone else has experienced nightmares with Levaquin alone, or in combination with other drugs like Prilosec.
