Like many of you on this forum, I am glad to have found this site! First though, I would like to say that I understand not every one taking Yasmin experiences the same side effects. I understand that some women probably have wonderful experiences with this medication. However, it frustrates me that while some women might have good experiences with this drug, I think the potential for SEVERE side effects other women could experience should be much more emphasized and researched. The pamphlet inside the Yasmin packaging briefly touches on what they advertise as rare side effects that overall outweigh the benefits of this drug. I think many of the side effects listed on this forum are not even mentioned in the packet. Personally, I believe I have had a horrible experience taking Yasmin for the past 8 months. It is very frustrating to take a medication that advertises itself to help symptoms (such as MOOD SWINGS) and in fact, causes many of these horrible symptoms in some women! I am so sick of the multi-billion dollar prescription drug industry (which seems severely under-regulated by the FDA.) Has anyone seen the fancy Yaz birth control commercial? You know, with the "we're not gonna take it" song? All those skinny models prancing around in a PMS-free world??? OMG PLEASE!!! I can't believe it has taken me this long to realize all of my horrible symptoms have started and only worsened during my time on Yasmin. I thought this pill wasn't related because my skin looks beautiful, I haven't had bad cramps anymore, I've had light periods, and my boobs have gotten bigger. Sounds great, huh? But since taking Yasmin I have also had such horrible mood swings I can't control myself. I feel like a completely different person. I've become extremely impatient, irritated by everyone on this planet, I can't concentrate, and I have looked so bloated at times several people assumed I was pregnant. My self-esteem is ridiculously low, I hate myself, my mirrors, and I accuse my loving boyfriend of the most ridiculous things. I don't see how he even puts up with me! I have become so depressed I rarely want to go out. I'm EASILY offended by the slightest comments and ridiculously paranoid. It is also very hard to go out when many of my clothes (even my "fat pants" do not fit anymore!) I have thought I was crazy, almost quit my job, left my boyfriend, and seriously wanted to kill myself. I'm aware that many of these symptoms could be caused by other things, but honestly, I have contemplated so many other potential causes (such as major depression) and I realize every thing has started during these past months I've been taking Yasmin. I am 21 years old, I do not smoke, and have generally great health. I feel entirely overwhelmed...I honestly don't know what to do.

IA huge thanks to you guys for putting this info out there, because I'm sure the Singulair website wouldn't go into detail about this, and tell about side effects it has: FYI -->
This was what I found on the Singulair website, no more, no less (see post below this one please)
'm really sad to hear that these things happened to you guys and your children.
My 8yr old (55 lbs) son got a cough that ended up lasting about 4 weeks, so i finally took him to his pediatrician. He gave him a breathing treatment and hinted at him having asthma- but he wasn't sure. We have no family history of asthma and in my mind i thought it was pretty far fetched, but we continued the breathing treatment for about 2 weeks and my son cleared right up.
We came back in the Friday after Thanksgiving for a check up and his doctor said that my son sounded much better. The doctor said that looking over my son's medical history (not much of anything) he said he could have asthma-but he wanted to put him on Singulair for the next 3 months until the winter is over.
He said it would be a preventative measure to keep my son's symptoms from "flaring" up. The doctors said " This is not a steroid, and there are NO side effects. Its a once daily chew able for children." I thought-hmmm that's a first, a drug with no side effects. Then I was thinking" "What symptoms was the doctor referring to?" He had a really bad cough he got while visiting his dad's family (bug going around). But I held my tongue and just nodded. He wrote out the prescription, and I left. I heisted as I pulled out in front of the pharmacy and then kept driving.
I felt uneasy about the whole thing. Giving him a daily medication for a condition (asthma) I doubted my son had. Glad I did my homework, I decided to not fill the prescription. I don't feel the least bit guilty for not giving him the meds.

Anyone experience problems with drinking beer, wine, alcohol? Beer is undesirable since it tastes flat. Last night drank it anyway celebrating my son's baseball win with the team. Did't even finish the beer because it just tasted so bad. Felt awful all day today as a migraine ensued. Few weeks ago drank Wine. It tasted okay, yet I woke up during the night violently ill, diarrhea and vomiting (great - huh?)- So now I am afraid to drink alcoholic beverages. Am I alone here? has any one else had this problem?

I had the Mirena for one year and just had it removed because I would like another baby. My only complaint was the insertion which was very painful. I have had to spinal surgeries and two babies and I really thought this HURT! The person who removed it said that I never should have had it put in without some lidocaine as is the norm at her office... interesting, huh??

After my father died in mid-Oct.I had lost alot of weight due to my depression. My doctor immediately put me on amitriptyline. At first I didn't notice any side effects other than it got me to sleep at night.Of course I wasn't really noticing much of anything but then-all I did was sleep. I felt like my whole world was over-I thought I would die without my father...but I never did and that scared me more than actually dying, living in a world where there was no one to take care of me or love me like my father did-He was always my KNight in Shinning ARMOUR...My doc. kept increasing my dose upto 100mg and then one dayI just got up out of my bed and renewed my nursing license and went back to work after eight years of just being a mom and a college student. It wasscary but very exciting but I wouldn't have been able to without the help of the med. My mood was cheerful-my children even noticed a huge difference in my happy appearance it was great stuff......until I noticed that I had gained almost 45lbs. from Oct.to the end of Dec. And another 20 by Jan. I GOT FAT FAST!! The worst side effect of the med for me was that it made me crave chocolate and lots of it! I would wake up in the middle of the night and go bake chocolate cookies and then eat the whole batch all myself. My doc says that the tiny little pill couldn't be responsible for gaining 65lbs in three months. BUt he obvious ly hadn't done his research because I have since talk to many people who experienced the chocolate craving and still others who have also gained ALOT of weight. So if you want to be undepressed -it should do the job that is unless being rather over weight tends to make you depressed. LOL Can't win for loosing huh?

Hi-new here and new to Topamax! I am taking Topamax for BiPolar. I have tried a dozen different drugs and they all seem to make me gain weight. Thsi seems to not have that listed as a side effect. As a health careworker I am very dedicated to being on top of knowing the side effect of my meds. I have been having issues with hair loss and thought it was again issues with my thyroid but must have been the Depakote-still hasn't stopped-guessing it's not going to huh?
Anyhow, I have tingling in my face-anyone else??? I have found that soda tastes HORRIBLE! Not such a bad thing though! I have found that my appetite isn't too vast either.
Anyhting I should be seriously worried about???

I started Apri on the first day of my period. I had a regular 7 day period but am now starting my 3rd week and have been bleeding every single day. The nurse calls that breakthrough bleeding..an unfortunate side effect of starting the pill, huh? Everyday? I am not happy about this. My whole purpose in taking this is so that I won't be on my period at the end of next month while on my 20th anniversary in the Caribbean! Any ideas of what to do? I am starting right into the next pack without taking the placebos. Anyone know when the bleeding finally stops?????

My 70 year old mother starting taking Fosamax a few weeks ago because her bone density test showed she had osteoporosis. She became quite ill soon afterwards, said she had the worst headache of her life, couldn't eat, had nausea, severe head pain, and dizziness. She was in bed for a week. Her doc said maybe it was a swollen temporal artery (huh?), and put her on strong pain meds, which she said didn't even touch the pain. After reading the other comments on this website, I called her and told her to not take another dose. Merck is being sued over this drug. How many women have to suffer horrific side effects, including loss of their jaws, before they pull this crap off the market?? It's all about maximizing their profits, folks, and those pharmaceutical companies will ruin your health with their poisons to make a buck.

I was writing to report one side effect, but after reading through some of the others...i may have two. After much urging from me, my husband stopped taking Advair a month ago and now takes Flovent...he has good control of his asthma now. After a week of being off Advair my husband noticed that he has stopped having heart palpitations that he had EVERY time he exerted himself while on Advair. Now, from reading other, my husband had developed an aversion to meat a couple of months ago, but now since being on Flovent he's been eating meat as usual...kinda weird, huh?!
I had been given Advair for bronchitis about a year ago...after one dose I had a horrible panic attack and heart palpitations....i didn't take anymore.

Huh, I have had no side effects from Yasmin. I have polycystic ovary syndrome and took Yasmin for 2 years, my doctor changed me to another pill for about 3 months and I had all kinds of problem, bloated, shortness of breath, dizziness, fatigue, etc... but none with the Yasmin. I begged her to put me back on it and she agreed. My periods are normal, no cramping, no headaches. I am not as tired and basically feel great as long as I stay on the Yasmin. Sorry to hear so many problems with it, I absolutely love the stuff myself.

Thanks you Chrissy, I'm really hoping this is what has been causing me this aggravation. Regardless of what the dr.'s say or not. Like I said I just got this theory yesterday, but m first dr. said I needed a therapist. Nice Dr. huh!. I'm normally a perfectly happy healthy person. It's so weird that all of this would come on after 3 yrs., but I guess anything is possible. I'm still having the chest pains, but I'm hoping that they will dissipate with in time. It hasn't even been 24 hrs. yet. But I'd be curious to see if anyone else has had all or most of my symptoms. Especially the rapid weight gain.
Thanks for the advice.

Lisa Here,
just an update went to docs yesterday and my old family doctor has moved to this clinic and i was so relieved to be able to tell him all about this poison. He is going to monitor me for a while with the blood pressure issues and cholestrol, pulse was fast (really) and pressure was up but not as high on lower reading as xmas so guess thats reassuring. He has taken bloods and checking all my level so will get them friday so be sure i will let u all know the results.
He was so shocked by side effects but told me the governments has not put it on its pbs scheme so obviously they are not too sure about it (great huh).
He hopes the pulse rates and blood pressure will drop but said was not sure if this had done permanent damage but from what i can gather most women return to normal levels after a while (am i right). Just finished my period and have no appetite whatsoever and its been 7 days now and am struggling to eat , i noticed Chrissy said something about this , did this settle post yasmin remember only 2mths off for me.
ok any advice will help
Hugs

Sherry.
In response to your post about the weight not coming off. I can tell you from PERSONAL experience that NOT eating is one of the WORST things you can do. I did that once because I was on medication(one for pain) that made me so nauseaous that I couldn't eat. First, I lost a TON of weight and looked emaciated. THEN, it started packing on. I've found from working with my nutritionist that your body thinks it's starving and starts "saving" what little nutrition it gets. Also, your metabolism slows down so whatever you eat just gets stored and not burned. Believe it or not, you burn calories by eating!
This is so hard; we are all suffering. I saw my gyno yesterday and she ran all of my tests. I should know next week and will post them if I feel they'll help, even though everyone is different! As for the weight, I BELIEVE(I won't get on the scale and judge by the way my clothes feel - I'm SURE there are some ladies here that can relate, huh?) that the gaining has stopped and MAYBE a slight loss has occured. It's been exactly 4 months off as of Saturday. I was only on for 5 mos.
So, be gentle with yourself and BELIEVE that your body will return to it's normal size. Again, for anyone that's interested, I'm working with a medical intuitive (over the phone) who has been incredibly helpful with turning the effects of this incredibly damaging drug around. Write me personally if you want her info.
Blessings to All!
Rita

SURPRISE! It appears that when one speaks to her doctor in an authoritative, nonhysterical tone, and with knowledge and intelligence about the subject, that doctor actually listens. I insisted my endocrinologist take me off Lipitor because of extreme side effects developing after a couple of years on it (unbearable muscle pains, edema in ankles and hands, unexplained rashes, tinnitus, vision problems) and he did exactly that without so much as a howdy-do or a doubt that I might be exaggerating my symptoms. Said we would check my cholesterol again during next visit and look for another solution, if it rose again over 200. I am now a happy camper and will report to those of you suffering similar symptoms about the results of this rather peremptory cessation of this scary drug. If I keel over, at least I won't die in pain, huh? And if I don't, you guys can consult similarly with your doctors.

Sometimes not always sure if it is just me( attitude, depression, way of thinking about life) or it is the med?,, of course, it couldnt be the med, right?,, the doc wouldnt give me something that is bad for me, right?.. I have been taking Diovan (40, 80) for about a year or so and 25 hctz,,but I constantly struggle for a feeling of sanity,,(sounds crazy, huh?),, I have anxiety, palps, shortness of breath, tiredness, wake up with heart beating out of chest (thats fun)...so I feel like I am swimming against the tide each day and struggle to feel halfway normal,, its amazing that I can even go to work.

I sometimes experience lightheadedness, coughing, constipation, mild body aches (chest area), and have this mild stabbing pain in my lower right leg. It's not really painful, just annoying. I just noticed it after taking these medications. However, I'm also taking Metaprolol and Liptor. So, it could be those meds as well.
I'm gonna have a talk with my doctor and discuss more natural alternatives. If you're deciding on going the natural route too I know a lot of doctors will not support it, what a surprise huh? I think doctors hate to admit there could be new and better ways to treat a problem. It like offensive to them because of what they learned in school for years.

hmm.
ok.
not good.
I have been taking microgynon for 2 months - during which time i have put on weight and a week before each period would have eaten a pint of worms to not feel as depressed as i did.
coupling this i put on stacks - (hey it may stop you getting pregnant but it just make you look and feel 6 months pregnant!)
i had heard that Jasmin would help prevent this due to it's lower doses, so would help not only the side effects like the screaming banshee rearing her head, but would also help reduce weight and help with clearing the skin.....
so you guys - have just ruined my big exciting venture into taking this 'miracle' pill...
soooooo....... whats the deal huh?
we all want the same thing, the same results, what IS the best bloody pill to take???
damn things - i hate the whole package of it all... it's not like our bodies are REALLY going to accept anything is it - it's un-natural, and it does'nt seem fair we have to go through so much s**t either.
if anyone knows of a good one - speak - and quick!
peace & love to every single one of you x

I have spent the last hour reading these messages. Yes i can believe that many Drs refuse to believe you when you tell them what is happening to you. I was told I am a hypochondriac, anxious etc. Funny how physical symptoms are there though huh? 2 days I have been taking Zocor and I have 12 symptoms described in others posts!! I remember many years ago I was on Zocor, then went to Lipitor for some reason (possibly side effects then stopped that too) but haven't been on any statin meds for several years. I am not taking Zocor EVER again. The chest and back pain was the worst for me. Blow that!! I have hereditary cholesterol even though I was vegetarian for 5 years weighed 130 pounds, (I am 5'5") rode horses, swam, did all the great stuff, still didn't make a difference (aint I lucky :| ) I will do it without meds from a western pharmacy!! I have emailed larryhor@optonline.net and I am telling you this person seems like a genuine wonderful man, wanting to share his experiences with lowering levels with everyone. What have you got to lose folks? ALL the horrible symptoms and your cholesterol levels right??? I will let you all know how things go with me over the next few days and weeks. I hope all of you get relief and are able to resume your normal lives real soon.
Blessed be to you all and THANK YOU LARRY!!!!!

I began taking gabitril several months ago to get off remeron which I took at night for sleep. It helped a bit but I felt drugged in the morning. I had gone up to 6 mg. Then last week, I made a mistake in meds and took 12 mgs during the afternoon thinking I was taking my thryroid pills which look just like the gabitril. I thought I was going to die. I became completely disoriented. I tried to look at a phone number to call someone but couldn't figure out how to do it. I coudn't rmember anything. My husband called from out of town and asked for our neighbors # and all I could do was give him my #. I couldn't talk. I just kept saying, huh? huh? He called the paramedics and they took me to the ER. It lasted about 4-5 hrs. Horrible. If you take it, make sure you start VERY low. It was a mistake I will NEVER make again. And I'm very careful about these things.

I was taking Wellbutrin for about 2weeks (i had taken for about 7yrs previously) from Effexor because of sexual side effects. The Welbutrin worked to get rid of that problem and my Dr in the hospital warned me about generic Budeprion, but my regular PA-C said that the 150's were different and made by Glaxo. Huh???? Like an idiot i got the generics and 5 days later I feel like i have no anti-depressant in me. Im having panic like "emotional attacks" where i just cry if I hear or see something that triggers an emotion, sleeplessness (i don't need any more of that), weight loss (what's food and why is my stomach gurgling) and over all lethargy. I hate this drug, its useless beyond belief, I really wonder who got paid at the FDA to pass this one through.
