Hydrochlorthiazide symptoms and conditions

I am a 58 year old white female taking 10 mg Lipitor for a couple years along with hydrochlorthiazide for high blood pressure and Effexor for depression. On Sunday night I was awakened by sharp intractable pain in my right thigh. Neither aspirin nor Tylenol reduced the pain at all. As Monday progressed my thigh, above and below my knee began to swell and throb, reduce my range of motion, and continue to cause increasing pain. It was the worst pain I have ever experienced. I finally could bear no weight on that leg. It was warm, swollen, and tender to the touch. Nothing made it better. I was alternately hot and chilled. I went to the ER where they did xrays and tried four times to tap what they thought must be an effusion. But there was no fluid in the joint space and the joint looked good on xray. They gave me an orthopedic referral, pain medication, and crutches. I now think I suffered extreme and sudden toxic side effects to the Lipitor I stopped taking on Monday because I could not hold anything down - another side effect of the Motrin. My range of motion in the right knee is much improved but the swelling and discomfort is decreased but not gone. I hope that it will improve over time. I had originally thought I was suffering from overuse of the muscles but I had not done anything unusual beyond my usual yoga, walking, strength training.

Have been taking Lisinopril, Atenolol and hydrochlorthiazide for about two years with disastrous side effects, including chest tightness, dry cough, dry hair, alopecia areata, depression, for which I was prescribed Paxil and then Zoloft, which only exacerbated my alopecia! There has got to be a safe alternative for controlling blood pressure other than this horrid Beta Blocker and ACE Inhibitor.
