Hi Ladies,
I am 31 with 3 beautiful children. I have had the mirena since July 2007. I now have a thyroid disorder called Hashimoto's thyroids. No personal or family history of any type of thyroid diseases. I am having mine removed in 4 days. Of course my family practice MD claims there is absolutely no connection between the mirena and my new onset of thyroid disorder. Just FYI for all of you ladies out there, the symptoms most commonly reported by a majority of you, take a look at the symptoms of hypothyroidism.
Symptoms of Hypothyroidism
Fatigue
Weakness
Weight gain or increased difficulty losing weight
Coarse, dry hair
Dry, rough pale skin
Hair loss
Cold intolerance (can't tolerate the cold like those around you)
Muscle cramps and frequent muscle aches
Constipation
Depression
Irritability
Memory loss
Abnormal menstrual cycles
Decreased libido
Any of these sound familiar??? All of my labs including my thyroid (TSH) levels came back normal. Except one. PTO, the test for thyroid antibodies. My immune system is literally attacking my thyroid. Thyroid levels under 3.0 are looked at for many women with infertility and miscarriage. Mine was 2.44, which is within normal range, but I am also on the verge of hypothyroidism. 3 weeks ago I noticed a lump on the left side of my thyroid, I just found the infertility information late last night, and that's how I wound up here. Mirena is doing its job, but it is also messing with your metabolism. Just because your thyroid levels are within normal range does not necessarily mean you are not having thyroid issues or it may be early enough where your levels are not "concerning" yet. No connection between thyroid and Mirena, huh???? Good Luck to all of you.

I had mine inserted 5mo ago. I have all the same symptoms (no sex drive, severe moodiness, possible depression, high irritability making it difficult to deal with my 3you). I was hypo-thyroid before, and unfortunately for me - my new GP lowered my thyroid dose at nearly the exact same time I quit my mini-pill to get the IUD. I do feel better for that day, when I take my higher dose pill, but I don't know if it'd be sustainable over time (as my doc won't prescribe me out of normal lab ranges).
The only thing I haven't gleaned from the posts attached, is were folks on versions of the pill before Mirena? I believe my mood swings/depression/(not sure of low libido) are probably my normal state. I had had pills switched on me, with drastic mood changes. My mother has drastic mood swings/depression. I had been on the piill for the last 17 years, minus my two pregnancies. My OB did tell me that Mirena wouldn't fix my "moodiness" problems, if I had them w/o the pill - but I wanted to try it and see.
Reading these posts makes me realize, this is my real problem - I need a regular dose of BC pills to feel normal, have my whole life - not my thyroid. I guess I'll stop getting so concerned that I cannot get in to see an endocrinologist for another month - hopefully my 5 min appt to get this thing out will happen next week!
Thanks to all and good luck to you!

Back in July of 2007 I had a partial Colectomy and was given Levaquin before the Surgery. When I woke up from the surgery I immediately felt all types of strange symptoms like, vibrating all over my body, anxiety, chills, Heart palpitations, tremors, insomnia, memory loss, and panic attacks. They told me that it was the anesthesia wearing off so I just sat in bed feeling that way for my entire 2 week stay in the hospital. When I went home these symptoms persisted as well as continued pain in my lower left quadrant where surgery was performed. It has been 8 months now and the symptoms are not getting better. They have conducted MRI’s, MRA’s. EEG’s, EKG’s, CAT Scans, X-Rays, numerous Blood Tests, and Thyroid tests but have found no physical problem. They can see that I’m having the symptoms I describe but cannot give me a reason for them. At first they thought that my Thyroid was having problems that turned up to be inconclusive. The doctors are currently referring me to a third Colorectal Surgeon, a Neurologist and a Second Gastroenterologist. We are also looking for a new Endocrinologist and will be going to the Cleveland Clinic for help. My life has come to a virtual standstill and I have no Diagnosis or direction to go toward other then the possibility that I have been affected by the Levaquin they gave me. I found a website that has all kinds of information concerning Levaquin poisoning. http://www.fluoroquinolones.org

I was diagnosed with a hypo thyroid and I was on 50 mcg for about 2 months now and I suffered from heart flutters that would wake me up in the night.....My doctor uped my dose for two weeks to 75 mcg and then put me on 100mcg I only took 1 pill of 100mcg and I had heart flutters and skipps, My enternal temperature went up and down, I even lost conciousness in and out, I told the doctor about it but did not go into a clinic or hospital he said take half a pill and Ill see you tomorow, so I did and felt fine for the day then on my birthday October 27 I took 75 mcg and still I was fine for the day.....But yesterday I took 75 mcg again and last night I ended up in the hospital, my girlfriend said I went from my normal coulor to yellow and my heart rate went through the roof and I felt like I was going to through up....I also felt slow. Is all of this realy necisarry....If the doctors were diagnosing us right and giving us the right pills would we not be fine.Im 22 years and have a four year old little boy to live for and my heart rate was 110 when I went in yesterday and they had to give me a pill to slow down my heart rate....I dont find that normal for a 22 year old to have to be going through. I DONT THINK SO!
Thank you all for your stories reading the side effects from all of you has helped me slightly understand this drug a little better.

I've been on the generic Wellbutrin for around 5 years. When I started it, no real side effects. About a month ago, I had what I think was a panic attack. This was the second one, the first happened about 3 years ago. Anyway, I had racing heart, dizziness, a feeling of a lump in my throat, tingling hands and feet and chest pressure. I thought I was having a heart attack, but a holter monitor and stress test showed my heart is fine. I think it was the Bupiron. I am weaning off, and still have most of those symptoms, though much less. I can't wait to be off of this. It helped for a while but has nearly paralyzed my life for the past month.
