My Asthma Doctor wants me off Toprol ASAP - he thinks that it is making my asthma worse. Said to go to my Primary Care Physician and switch to Diovan - said that immediately switching to Diovan means that I do not have to wean off the Toprol - does anyone know if this is true? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I take 50 mg of Toprol daily for HBP.

I took 75mg of Topamaz for 3 1/2 months for my chronic migraines. The side affects for me were nearly as bad as the headaches: I lost 17 pounds, tingling in my toes and fingers, tiredness, food intolerances, and still had the headaches. I went off the Topamax 2 months ago and thought I was going to be OK. But last week, I developed appendicitis and had my appendix taken out by emergency surgery. I am curious if any other patient has had appendicitis but just didnt relate it to the Topamax.

I have found since taking this drug that my bowel movements are very difficult. I am not actually constipated, but feel almost impacted. I have never experience this problem before, and attribute it directly to this drug. I am curious if I am alone in this problem.
Thanks

I've been taking Singulair for about a week now. I have been having headaches every day and dizziness upon waking. My sinuses feel irritated and I am experiencing sinus drainage. The only change in medication has been the addition of the Singulair. I started getting allergy shots a little over a month ago, and had noticed a considerable improvement in my allergies and asthma. My doctor just added the Singulair, and I feel as though all my progress has gone out the window. I want to stress that I was feeling MUCH BETTER just getting allergy shots each week, but once I started taking Singulair, I started feeling ill again. The headaches are most problematic, causing particular impairment. I plan to stick it out for a while in an attempt to rule out any other potential confounding variables (weather, hormonal fluctuation, pollen hot spots, etc), but I fear that this may not be the medication for me.
While it is true that all these comments are "anecdotal", the potential side effects listed in the Singulair booklet include headaches, stomach ache, aggression, anxiety, etc. Individuals with allergies tend to be hypersensitive to chemicals, which may explain a higher incidence of sensitivities to medications. No one posting on this site is a hypochondriac, contrary to the uneducated and caustic comment posted on August 19th. This is merely a forum for the free exchange of information, enabling all of us to be more educated consumers and patients. I am curious as to why “Foxmulder” was even perusing this web site - if he or she has not been experiencing any side effects, then why bother reading the rest of our struggles with the drug? I’m guessing that our friend is a tad more damaged than he cares to admit.
Furthermore, the accounts of young children and adolescents reporting problems and then finding relief once being removed from Singulair proves to me a need for more research into this medication. Surely these young children are not reading the website postings and then mysteriously manifesting symptoms after the fact, as cynics like Foxmulder would have us believe. Having studied psychology and having worked with bipolar children, I know all too well the dangers that medication can have on young, developing bodies and minds.
All medications should be approached with caution, and a good doctor will be willing to listen to his or her patient’s feedback and adjust dose or prescription accordingly to find the right balance for each individual.

I have had my Mirena since Jan 07. My periods are certainly much lighter however I am spotting in between. I am having cramping and nausea almost daily know for about a week and my lower back hurts as well. The nausea is what is really bothering me. I don't hear too many complaints about nausea. Is anyone else expierencing this?
Thanks.

A Nuvaring proponent and user for 4 years (I started when it was first available on the US market) I decided to stop using it 2 weeks ago after reading some horrifying posts regarding the exponential increase in risk of stroke and pulmonary embolism in women who are 1.)35+ and 2.) smokers. What was most frightening, was the fact that most of the women who have died or are wheelchair bound, due to Nuvaring complications are under 30 and non-smokers.
The reason I have continued my research is because I have realized that for the past two years, I have experienced what I now believe to be side effects. I never had PMS before using the ring. With each year of use, my PMS has become more severe and of longer duration -- up to 2 weeks prior to my period. I have had horrible lower back pain for over 1 year, and x-rays from my chiropractor indicate no symptoms of a structural problem. Even after PT, the pain didn't subside. Additionally, I have experienced the mood swings and depression other women on this site report. I was constantly anxious, frustrated for no apparent reason, angry, and short-tempered to the point of volatile. The change in my personality has been obvious and rather disturbing. I am relieved to know that this shift might have been related, and I am curious to know how I will feel as the hormones from the ring are purged from my system. I am now choosing to use a non-hormonal contraceptive -- the sponge. It's easy, safe, convenient, and not dangerous to my health.
Something all women need to remember -- We are still guinea pigs for the health and pharmaceutical industries. Until women stand up and demand fair and equal respect for their health and welfare (that means vote - and not for those on the side of big business !!!) and stop supporting industries and politicians who LIMIT choices for women, this problem is NOT going away. The Nuvaring is just another example....

If you are a woman or have a daughter PLEASE READ.......
Please be very careful before getting a Kenalog injection especially if you are a woman or for your daughter. In March my 13 year old daughter received one Kenalog injection for hay fever. Now almost 4 MONTHS later it is a 2 inch indentation with dark bruising all around it. She has also had her period the entire time with maybe a 1-2 day break between them. It has taken this long for the doctors to say the bleeding is from the Kenalog injection. I never would have allowed them to give this to her if I had known of these side effects. She has been put through test after test and no end in site. Now my 13 year old will have to go on birth control to stop the bleeding and there will prob. be side effects from that as well. I was shocked to find this site and now how many lives this drug is hurting. Now my daughter is suffering, all from 1 SHOT.

I was on Prednisone for a month. The sleeplessness , yet being so sleepy was awful but not nearly as awful as the weight gain and depression. I am curious how long this stuff stays in your system? I am a week and a half off and I feel a little better but I am wondering about when the headaches and weight gain will disappear? Thanks

Hi,
You name it, I had it. Fatigue, Headaches, Racing heart, palpitations, chest pain, naseau, sleeplessness, melasma. This is the second time this has happened to me. The first time was in 2003 on Ovcon. My gyn then put me on Aviane, a generic brand with lower hormone levels. A year later I went to and endocronolic specialist, who decided to put me on Yasmine, not sure why, but like so many people, I did as I was told (blind trust). I just this month reached the climax of my symptoms and decided to see a doctor. Just as someone else posted, the first thing they said was ANXIETY. They said I have been on Yasmine to long to just now start feeling side effects. I gave a rundown of everything I was feeling and they sent me for blood work.
Results are I am enemic. I have an iron deficiency. This I knew from my younger years. What I am curious about, is whether or not Yasmine has an effect on the level of iron in your blood. Can it worsen your enemia?

When you advise that low magnesium levels where what caused your irregular heart beats how did you confirm that? with test and then a supplement?
I am curious because I have this too as well as pain and read in more recent posts that Yasmin can flush out/create low levels on Magnesium-and that low levels of magnesium can cause the irregular heartbeat. a long time ago as well a doc told me that low progesterone which I had could also cause it?
If you did take take a supplement how much did you take and did it go away? Have you had the chest pains too?

I was taking Atenolol for a few years and it worked marvelously, but because I am diabetic- my Dr put me on lisinopril because Atenolol supposedly raises your sugar somewhat.
I have only been taking lisinopril for a few days, but I have already noticed headaches, stiff neck and sore joints, nausea and diarrhea, and my pulse seems to be racing. I feel like the blood is rushing to my head so I doubt it is working for my blood pressure.
I also take lipitor and metformin (and low dose aspirin).
I was reading the ingredients, and I am curious why lisinopril wouldnt raise glucose since it contains starch!?
I think I will be heading for the emergency room shortly if my head continues to feel like its going to pop. I would rather go back to Atenolol and deal with the tingling, because at least it maintained my BP which is what I was taking it for.

OMG - I thought it was just me.
I have been forgetful and losing words in mid-sentence - like the thoughts were just snapped away.
I had dry mouth - fought depression and serious fatigue.
I had an episode where I was dozing behind the wheel and had even merged into the oncoming traffic lane. (Thank goodness no vehicles immediately in the area - else I might not be able to tell you about it today).
I stopped taking it four days ago - and I am feeling much better.
I didn't run this morning, but I am curious how my body will respond....

I did not think I was having any problems with Advair until I read an article about side effects. I have many.....leg cramps, muscle aches, fungal infection in mouth, and more. The one I am curious about though I am not sure if it is related to Advair or not. I would really like some info. I quit smoking in March, 2005, after smoking for 39 years. Since I quit, I have noticed (more than before) that I still cough quite a lot. Most is very dry, hacking cough, but occasionally, I bring up some mucous from my lungs, and it is solid. If it was a very large piece of mucous, I would actually choke on it. Most are small but numerous. Any suggestions??
Thanks

I've been taking wellbutrin XL 150 mg for about a ten days now. The first couple of days I have had a severe case of migraine. But now it comes and goes. I also can't sleep and when I do. I get like a sleep disturbance. I close my eyes and sleep for a split second and then I would awake suddenly. (I feel like I'm falling) These would last throughout the night. During the day I get jittery and have energy at times and then I would get tired all of a sudden. I am dizzy most of the day. I do however, have loss of appetite. I'm not eating like I usually do. My depression is getting better. I am curious to see if I can last a month or so. If it is the symptoms are getting worse. I think I might quit.

Levaquin is probably one of the most damaging drugs in the market. I was given Levaquin 500mg for 20 days by a Urologist for a possible urinary infection. (It later turned out that the frequent urination for which I was given this medication had nothing to do with urinary infection and all the symptoms remained the same after completing the 20 day course, but that is a different story).
Now about the side effects. I started having on and off chest pains about a month ago and now the frequency of those chest pains have grown to almost persistent chest pain. It is getting me very nervous. I also notice my left knees are sometimes totally limp and unable to move.
Those doctors who prescribe this medication without becoming aware of its side effects and not informing the patients about its side effects should be prosecuted to maximum extent by the law and it should be considered a felony to prescribe this medication without considering alternatives.
I would like to know if anyone has noticed any of the symptoms getting better with time. I am curious to know if we can expect any of the symptoms to get better with time or worse? Also, I would like to know if anyone has been able to treat any of the side effects.
We need to get a petition together and file with FDA about Levaquin and its disastrous side effects. How can FDA approve this medication without a thorough study of its side effects?
Looking forward for any responses.
Thanks.

Hi ladies... After being on yeasmin for three months, I was totally LOSING MY MIND. Never having struggled with depression or anxiety before I literally begged my doctor to help me get better. I has suffering horrible panic attacks daily, which i had never had before. I didnt want to go to work for fear of having one in my classroom. She dismissed the thought of it being the Yasmin, which i had just switched to, but i knew something had to be up with it. So after she presciped me Zoloft, I decided that was the last straw. I was not going to start taking an antidepressant before I at least tried getting off the pill. So i stopped taking it about two weeks ago, and switched to Ortho Tri cyclen Lo. I never took the zoloft. GOOD NEWS starting to feel like myself again, alot better, and patching things up with a fiance who wondered where his sweet girlfriend had disassapeared to, and not going to quit my job which i was about two minutes from doing. I dont feel 100 percent back yet, but the panic attacks have stopped and all i feel now is a little nervous, mostly because I am curious about when ill get back to normal and if I even remember how that felt. The depression has lifted compltetely. LAdies, please dont ignore your gut feeling when there is something wrong. Good luck to you all.

I have been so depressed, crying for no reason, tired, my boobs are overflowing in my bra's and my sex drive no longer exists! I had no idea why I was feeling this way, then I thought to do a little research on Yasmin and I found this website. I am about to start my 3rd week on Yasmin....I have felt better the week before my period (which is why I am on Yasmin). My doctor recomended me to start taking it to control my terrible mood swings and cramping. I called to tell her about how I feel and she is trying to convince me to stay on it for another 2 months, that my body is just adjusting to it. I want to quit, but I am curious to see if it really helps my PMS symptoms......if it doesn't I am done with this crap! I am miserable and making everyone who around me miserable. I would rather have cramps and mood swings 3 or 4 days rather than feeling the way I have the past 2 weeks..

I'm a 37 yr. female. I was diagnosed with depression/anxiety about 6 yrs. ago.I take Effexor XR & about 3-4 mo. ago was prescribed 10mg. of Lisinopril for my high blood pressure.Med worked for that :)
-- By tigermoonk | Reply | (2) replies | Private Message meMy side effects from this med are the dry hacking cough at night.(Comes and goes) Loss of sex drive(even worse)
And about 2wks ago I started feeling really down.Crying, angry, withdrawn & having suicidal thoughts due to all the added feeling's.I had ran out of my meds(BP) and missed about 3 days.Best thing to happen :) 'Cause just a couple days ago it's like the old me returned!!! I'm HAPPIER, the depressed feeling's are GONE. I care about myself alot more than I have in a long time.Just bad brain zaps(on & off) from the sudden stop.
I've been reading on here how some side effects came on slowly, and I'm one of them this has happened to. I have MORE energy too now that I stopped.
I thought maybe my anti- depressant med. needed to be adjusted again(even took one extra pill) and that didn't work.It was my BP med making me feel terrible. Anyone who has depression should really watch for any added changes. I'm SO GLAD I found this website!!!
I thank everyone who has shared they're experience's.
