I was on Loestrin 24 Fe for 3 months. I too was relieved to find out that I was not alone regarding the side effects. I had the weight gain, the spotting but no period, the mood swings and worst of all for me (and my boyfriend)....the lack of sex drive. I stopped taking this BC pill a month ago and I am waiting for things to get back to normal. Does anyone know how long it usually takes for Loestrin to completely leave your system?
Thanks

I have been on the NR for about a year and a half. I have gained about 15 lbs. which until today I have blamed on my fiance because of his eating habits. Now I think my insanely large appetite may have something to do with the NR. I have also become much more lethargic and "down".
Last week I decided not to continue using the NR and I've been sleeping like crazy. I am waiting for my sex drive to return and for my energy to increase.
What are the typical side effects when you stop using it?

I had my Mirena IUD removed yesterday. I took 3 Ibuprofen on the way to the doctor's office and had no trouble with the removal at all. I have had no bleeding or cramping. Now I am waiting to see if those side effects that I posted before will go away over the next few weeks. Will keep posting as things change.

I stated my exprience with Mirena on September 26, 2007. The end of my message stated that I am waiting for my doctor to return my call to remove the Mirena. My appointment is this afternoon (3:45pm). I will write back to share my experience after the removal. Hopefully the bleeding and pain will vanish in a few days. At least that is what I am hoping. I will keep you informed.

I've been taking Yaz for three months and, as much as I'd like to stay on a birth control pill, this one just isn't working. I've been ravenously hungry, and nauseous too. It's been a vicious cycle of eating (to stem the insane cravings), and then vomiting. Yuck. I'm over it. I've read some of the other posts, and I can relate to the need to pee also. I experienced the same diuretic effect, but only for a few weeks during the first pack of pills. I've also had a mild headache nearly every day since I began taking the pill. And I've had sore breasts too. I'm sure there are some girls who can handle Yaz, but I'm not one of them!

I felt that I had a urinary tract infection, and went to the hospital to confirm this and I was right. The doctor prescribed 500 mg of levaquin per day and woke up after the 2nd pill with my top lip puffed up so much I looked like some kind of alien. I am waiting for my PA to represcribe something different and have stopped taking it.

I have been on NR since July 18 of this year. I was diagnosed with PCOS and Insulin Resistance. I am also on Byetta. My experience with NR has not been good. First of all I was skeptical about constantly having a foreign object in my body especially such a sensitive area. Symptom 1, decreased sexual desire! Symptom 2, burning sensations down there. Then itching, and a horrible discharge and smell!! At this point I kept thinking how much worse can it get. Well it did, I should be loosing weight from the medication finally regulating my insulin levels, after all I work out 5 times a week and follow a healthy eating plan. My lower tummy is swollen as well as my hips and thighs. Not to mention I have pains in my hips, like they need a massage. On top of this all I have an increased resting pulse rate and blood pressure as well as tighten feelings in my chest. I really feel like this birth control is not safe for me. I was previously on yasmine, and loved it. My endo suggested NR due to the PCOS and IR they feel like it works best with Byetta! WRONG!!! I am waiting for the DR to return my call I am requesting AGAIN that my BC be changed.

I am 33 yrs old and using BC for the first time to regulate my periods and also for acne. I have been using Loestring 24 FE for a month and a half. I did get my period after not getting it for three months. However, this drug has been causing me chronic insomnia. I wake up every night at 3am and cannot go back to sleep. I feel super accelerated for much of the day. I too have had bad nightmares since I have been on this drug. Some of other cons are: vaginal dryness and major mood swings. I can be upset for no reason and then be crying hysterically. I am waiting to make the 6 month mark to decide if this is working for me or not.

This is about my 4th or 5th time being infused w/solumedrol 1 gram for 3 days. I have been diagnosed w/MS for about 7 years. I have experienced joint pain but only when one doctor did not put me on a prednisone taper.
Overall, I am apreciative to the makers of this drug because it allows me to walk, button my clothes, cut up vegetabes for my 13 yr old daughter and my husband. Currently I am on my first day of a three day treatment and already I am experiencing the benefits. I am rt handed and it was tighter and feeling like card board, the same with my chest, back, and right leg. I felt like someone had tied a belt around my chest very tightly. It was hard to breath like a chest was on my chest! I am waiting for the nurse to start my IV at 4:00. I inject every Tuesday with Avonex. I REALLY need this medication to work so that I can drive my daughter to school each Wednesday. She is in Independant Studies because I was having vertigo and was afraid to continue driving. I was given a one day treatment of solumedrol in the emergency room. After treatment vertgo stopped. Yippee!!That was 11 months ago. Hot weather, sunlight exaserbates my condition to the 'enth degree. So here I am again hoping my right foot and right leg will get back to almost normal. People that are infirm are happy to receive whatever relief they can get in order to cope better with an illness even though I know that the only true cure for makinds ills can only come from God's Kingdom, but for now God has giver men intelligence to cure some of the illnesses that we face: Cancer - Chemotherapy (20 years ago killed my mom - hardened her lungs) ; Ads, Polio, Measles, TB and the list goes on there are upsides and downsides and it's a slippery slope, but I LOVE THAT I CAN MAKE THAT CHOICE!!! P.S. I have started using some vitamins ( B12,B6, Calcium (as solumedrol does some bone damage) and Vitamin E

Hi. I started the NR about 5 weeks ago and for the first few weeks I was fine but then started experiencing leg cramps, chest pains, more gas than usual and even swollen down there! WTF! I literally took the thing out as I was reading all these comments on here! SCARY STUFF!!! I am waiting a few days and if the swelling does not go away I am going in asap! I have tried all sorts of B.C. but nothing works for me! Thank god my husband just went and had a vasectomy (SP)! But still have to becareful for a few months...no more babies for this mommy. Thanks for making this website!

So what does work? I've had depression, yeast infections, no sex drive, and I need to get this thing out. Has anyone with these same problems with the NuvaRing had luck with another form of birth control?

I am not sure that Protol is the cause of my symptom....I woke up at 3.30am with my ears feeling like I had just got off a plane, sort of "plugged up". I am waiting for my cardiologist to call back and let me know what to do. Has anyone experienced this symptom ?

I too have been on Lisinopril for about 9 months. Over that time I have had the dreaded dry cough which usually kicks in out of nowhere lasting a few minutes. This usually happens when in business meetings. I will usually cough a while and then I sneeze. This seems to end the cough. At night the cough is usually triggered by the dry forced hot air my house produces. I stopped taking it on the advise of an Internal Medicine Doctor not the Endocronologist that origionally prescribed it. I am waiting for the cough to go away. After a few weeks he plans to switch me over to Avapro.
I have been a serious cigar smoker for the past 30 years, but over the past few months I have not been able to partake in my favorite passtime. Too painful. Maybe this is a good thing?

Hello all,
I have a question regarding menstruation. I have been off of oral contraceptives altogether since August. My first and second period came right on schedule. Now I am waiting around for my period. Even though it is only a few days late, I am terrified of pregnancy even though I use barrier methods and chart my temperature. Is it normal to have periods be a bit irregular, even if the first few after quitting were regular?

Blueberry-
I suggest that you speak with your doctor (although my doc will not admit to the correlation of the symptoms that I had and my being on Yasmin). The hot flashes may get worse (mine did) as you take more Yasmin. You may develop other symptoms as you take more pills.
Please refer to some of the posts below in this forum. Yasmin does some serious things (havoc) to your system.
I am waiting to have my second pd since stopping Yasmin. Since my pd is getting closer, I am having more hot flushes/flashes and am much more anxious and shaky.
I took Yasmin for about 5 months, then off for a month then on for 8 or 9 more.
Gina - YES, I am still lightheaded and dizzy! It only lasts 1-2 seconds, but it is there. I too gave up both the occasional glass of wine and Diet Coke to "detox" myself. Seems like it is helping a little. I am not back to myself, not even close. I guess that the Paxil CR is helping too.
I am seeing a nurse practitioner this Thursday. Let's hope that she has some answers for me. This has been a nightmare for me. I just KNOW the Yasmin is to blame, it HAS to be.
Take care everybody!

I have a prescription for topamax now for 3 weeks and I have been scared to death to start it just because of the side effects of nurontin. Those were nothing compared to what I have been reading for topamax!! I have badly damaged nerves, plus I take many other meds such as oxycontin, norco, soma, baclofen, phernergan, levid and xanax. I am waiting on my nuro doc to tell me if taking topamax is ok. My memory is my life....I have a great ability to multitask about 12 things at once and do them all at 100% and have a memory like an elephant...I dont want to lose that and from what I have read, topamax will do it to me. I can handle the nausea and anxiety because I have meds for that. I wear strong glasses already because of my bad eyesight...I am afraid of making it worse. Please give me your opinions. I have a home to take care of and a husband and 2 young daughters...my husband does so much for me and the thought of this drug making me hate him or treat him bad is more than I can handle. He does it all for me, get me out of bed, take me to the bathroom, get me dressed sometimes..I am scared. Someone please give me some advice.

I BEEN ON ZORCO FOR ONE MONTH AND MY SIDE EFFECTS HAVE BEEN TERRIBLE. WEEKNESS ON RHW RIGHT SIDE, BOTH OF MY FEET FELL LIKE PINS AND NEEDLES ARE IN THEM. ALSO I CAN FEEL LIKE A NERVE IS JUMPING IN MY RIGHT FOOT. ALSO MY MOUTH FEELS LIKE WHEN YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO SOMETHING. I WAS ON LIPATOR AND THE EFFECTS WERE ALMOST THE SAME EXCEPT FOR THE MOUTH PART. I HAVE QUIT TAKING ZOCOR AND I AM WAITING TO HEAR FROM MY CARDIOLOGISTS. I WAS AFRAID TO QUIT TAKING ZOCOR BECAUSE I HAD OPEN HEART SURGERY IN MARCH OF 2005. BUT MY CHOLESTEROL IS PRETTY NORMAL FOR NOW. HAS ANYONE ELSE HAD THE PROBLEM WITH THEIR FEET AND MOUTH.?

Hey,
I have been on Yasmin for over a year now, and four weeks ago I noticed that I had numbness on one side of my right foot and around my lower right leg, and the side of my left toe was also numb. I thought I might have MS, but after reading this site, I think I will stop taking the pill and see if the numbness goes away. I am scared to stop though, because the reason I am on it anyway is because of a hormonal imbalance that is causing me to lose my hair and grow facial hair. I have read so many people here saying that they have started losing a lot of hair, and for someone who already has thin hair, that is a scary concept. There is only one side effect that has not touched me, and that is the loss of sex drive. I am not having sex because I am waiting for marriage, but let me tell you, there are plenty of times that I wouldn't mind it! Oh well, I guess everyone has their own experience. Thanks for all of the posts; they have really helped me to not think that I have an incurable disease.

Hi,
I have been on the medication for about 2 weeks. After a week I started to experience discomfort when I swallow. Basically, when I swallow food I can feel it go down my tube and its very painful. I am waiting to hear back from my Dr. I have decided to just stop taking the pills and hope the side effects dont last too long.

I have been taking Yasmin for 2 1/2 months now. I take only the active pills. I have never taken bcp's before and am only doing it to treat endometriosis. I have been spotting everyday, feel nauseous, daily headaches, ACNE (never had this in my life), and have tender swollen breasts. Am I really supposed to put up with this for 3 months before calling my doctor? That's ridiculous! Women put up with WAY too much pain and inconvenience! I am waiting for my doctor to call me back right now. I'm sure he'll try switching me to another pill...then I guess I wait another 3 months to make a judgement. At least all this daily pain (oh, did I mention hot flashes? Well, I had them worse before anyway) is better than debilitating pain from enometriosis. There's got to be a better way!

I too have been experiencing alot of the side effects listed in the many testimonials here. I didn't relate what was happening, but just noticed that there was an inconcistency in the way I felt while taking Advair. Since the pollen season has started, I began taking l/2 doses of Advair a day... I exercise intensely about 4/5 times a week, and noticed that instead of having more "lung" endurance I felt like I almost had the onset of a chest cold or bronchitis. I would get very out of breath the harder I exercised....with muscle fatigue, hipe pain, long recovery time, raspy throat w/phlegm. The wierd thing too was that I had hunger pains in the morning that would continue even after I had eaten... almost like a burning feeling. I just stopped taking Advair, and use my inhaler when needed. I still feel very fatigued, which is very frustrating to someone who exercises as much as I do. It's been about two days, and I am waiting to feel better, hopefully.

I was diagnosed w/ Crohn's Disease at the age of 15. I am now 18 and have had no luck w/ any drug that they have tried to treat me with. Endocort and Asacol. After two years of these two drugs they decided to try Prednisone because I was not getting better. I have been on it for one month at 30 mg a day. I love it SO FAR. I am waiting to see what happens. I am scared because I haven't heard the best things about Prednisone. I have had mild weight gain. I weighed 93 lbs and now I am a healthy 105. I am not getting fat, I am just putting on the weight my body was lacking. I looked anorexically skinny and now my body is healing so I am able to eat more and not get sick. I have had mild heartburn as well. Especially when I drink pop. I have had slight muscle cramps. The worst part is the acne I have been experiencing. It came on out of nowhere. But, just wash your face 2-3x a day and keep it oil free and you should be fine. And to help control the weight gain I work out 3x a week. I also am eating healthier foods.

All I can say is thank you ladies for posting all of this. I was on Nuva ring for almost 2 years. my boyfriend complained I was getting worse and worse in terms of my anger and mood swings. He called me a monster. Then days after my 20th birthday I experienced lots of itchiness and pain after sex so I thought it was a yeast infection. When I did not respond to over the counter meds I went to the hospital to get testing for STDS. When all the test came back negative I went back to my regular doctor two weeks later. Again, I was tested and a month later tested again. No one could figure out why I was having burning and itchiness with no other symptoms and all my STD test negative. Finally I gave up the ring and have been symptom free now for nearly 6 months. To this day the situation plagued me because the doctor swore I couldn't experience this from the Nuva ring. I spent a whole summer in pain because of this. Now I am birth control free but my boyfriend of three years and I would love to add to our family.
