I have been on the NuvaRing for about a year and a half now and it has been the best thing ever! I am a 20-year-old junior in college and had previously been on the pill since 8th grade due to the unbearable cramps I experienced. They kept me from going to school, participating in extra curriculars, and everything! I was literally bedridden for about four days every month. When I started college, and was out in a dorm on my own, there was was little to no stability in my schedule. I was forgetting to take that pill everyday and on tope of this, I was becoming sexually active. My risks of not taking my pill everyday at the same time were growing from just having cramps to actually having a baby! So I decided that there had to be an easier way, because I have heard so many horror stories from friends using condoms alone, and did not want to have one to add to the list.
In my freshman intro to biology class, the professor was going over the different types of birth control methods and discussed one that had just recently achieved FDA approval, and told us that we would start seeing commercials for it. It was the NuvaRing and I started a little research. I asked my doctor if it would be a good option for me, and she agreed, especially since she was going to discontinue writing prescriptions for the patch because of the high risk of blook clots. I picked up my prescription and was very scared because of the entry method. Didn't exactly want to put my finger inside, but "gotta do what ya gotta do."
I DID NOT experience any side effects that even compare to what these women have gone into detail about on this site, and my heart goes out to them. However, my chest grew a full cup size (hooray!) Definetly not a problem for me...it was a good day when I was at Victoria's Secret and explained to the saleswoman that I didn't understand why my bras weren't fitting as they usually did. She measured and indeed, had grown a full cup size, a very nice surprise when I had considered implants previously. I also have increased discharge but not a problem, I just use pantiliners. The increased discharge is not really a con to the NuvaRing, in fact I think it has increased my libido and my boyfriend's as well. No need for lube, it is all natural now (haha). Yes, the male can feel the ring during intercourse, and you can as well, but that is such a small price to pay for the peace of mind. It is never an issue for me or my boyfriend.
I recently thought of switching to an IUD, because of a commercial I saw on tv, about a five year plan. I don't want to have kids for at least another five years, but read about all of the side effects, including infertility, and that was enough to scare me away. I am perfectly happy with the NuvaRing but just wanted something I wouldn't have to worry about for five years.
Also mentionable, I gained a little more than the "freshman 15." It was the freshman 25 for me, and since switching to NuvaRing I have lost 15 lbs. Still not as small as I was in high school, but I am a happy 130 right now, and on my small 5'2" frame, it's not too bad. Don't really know if it was a result of the ring, but I didn't do any exercise, or much change to my eating habits (I have always eaten a tremendous amout of food!) I don't drink any carbonated drinks, only juices and water, but walking back and forth to class and the dorm might have something to do with it!
Just got back from doctor, blood pressure is normal.
Please don't think that the ring is terrible, yes some experience negative side effects, but not all. I love this thing, and will probably continue to use it until I am ready for a baby. I would recommend discussing it with your doctor first, and let them know at the first sight of any side-effects. Based off of my experience, I would suggest everyone get it, and I do to all my friends when they forget to take their pill.

After reading all your comments here on this website, all I can say is "Thank God, I'm not the only one!" I thought I was going crazy or something. I was on Yasmin for a couple years & loved it! Then I lost my insurance & my doctor gave me some free samples of Femcon Fe. The first month I got acne, severe headaches, moodswings, was terribly nauseous & had trouble keeping food down. Now I'm on the final, 3rd month & I can't eat enough! I'm always hungry (especially for chocolate), I've gained 5lbs, still have acne & headaches, I've experienced random spotting during the month, and now this month my period's late. Ugh! I asked my doctor to switch me to another birth control- she's switching me to Tri-Sprintec. It's offered at the Walmart Pharmacy for $9 a month, which is a lot better than the $45 I had to pay for Yasmin a month. Let's hope this Tri-Sprintec works better than Femcon Fe !!

I have been on lisinopril 20mg for a couple years. Took a more expensive med for 8 years prior to lisinopril. The dry cough has been my most persistent side effect. It's worst in the mornings. The last couple months I have experienced a very unpleasant taste in my mouth. Hard to describe, kind of bitter or acidic. Not all foods are the same, coke & pepsi are the worst. Sometimes the tase is present in my mouth even if I'm not eating at all. I don't know if this is related to lisinopril. It's the only med I take, except for vitamins. Has anyone experienced this?

The first b.c pill my doctor put me on was Yaz and that was a complete nightmare for three months. I felt nautious everyday and my mood went psycho. I cant tell you how many times I flipped out on my family and boyfriend. I also was beginning to feel symptoms of anxiety attacks and it was then that I asked my doctor to switch me to another pill. Well, she switched me to Loestrin 24 and I've been on it for a week. I know that it is too early to tell how it will work out for me but after reading all of the responses I'm beginning to freak out. Yaz was horrible for me and I am hoping that Loestrin 24 will be better, especially since I told my doctor the anxiety and moodiness I had with Yaz. So far I have only experienced a bit more acne than usual and my stomach is upset sometimes. I also have been spotting a bit and had cramps which felt like menstraul cramps to me...which is weird considering I definitly won't be getting my period for another few weeks. My boobs are sore, but not too bad- i wish i had the growth side effects others are getting haha! Well, hope everything works out well and I'll keep updating.

I forgot to add this... Since taking the drug I'm so tired that I can barely keep my eyes open and most of the time if I'm home I do fall asleep. I can help it. I have no control over this. I even have a full nights sleep and have this problem and it seems the better I sleep at night the worse it is during the day. I asked my doctor about this and she had nothing to say in regards to this problem. I'm so tired at work that I can't concentrate.

Ive been on Seroquel for quite some time now, I asked my doctor too get me off. I am also on Lithium and Welbutrin. I have lost 45 pounds. Which isnt a horrible thing but with out Seroquel I am awake all the time. I stay up for days. After day three i break down and take a Seroquel and wake up with the worse body aches ever. It feels like someone beat me up with a metal bat and put me back in bed. If I don't sleep for at least 11 hours I cannot get up and function much less do any daily activities. It also makes my depression worse, on top of my lithium. The bodyaches I cannot do any more.

I have suffered with the loss of taste and smell which would last for months. We found a site where a doctor said that he suffered from the same condition for months but when he fell ill and was given predison he regained his sence of taste and smell. He found that kenalog is safer and gives the same results. I was taking allergy shots every week and so no results. I asked my doctor about kenalog and after looking at the data she gave me the shot in my deltoid muscel. In less than 12 hours I was able to taste and smell and have so for three months. I just received another one today. I have not suffered from any allergies at all.

I am so glad I found this website. I have had a lot of questions answered about my husband's health issues. My husband is a relatively healthy 32 year old and has been on 5mg Lisnopril for almost 5 years for slightly high BP and has had a lot of problems since he has started taking it. The most severe problem he has experienced lately is vision loss in his eye. He started complaining in late November of Floaters and Grainy Vision in his left eye. This will last about a week and then subside only to return a few days later. The vision problems will come on suddenly and get so bad that he can't see or read out of his left eye. He sees lines, floaters, cobwebs, colors, and grainy spots. My husband went to his family doctor when it first started and was told not to worry about it.
Last week I took him to the eye doctor, who could not even see in his eye because there was so many floaters. The opthamologist immediately sent us to a retina specialist who thought he had a detached or torn retina. Well, we have been to the specialist twice and he can't find anything that would be causing this problem. We've had 3 doctors and a pharmacist tell us that Lisinopril would not cause this vision problem. Since I have found this site and read posts from others who have had the same vision problems, I am convinced that this is causing his problems.
Some other side effects he has had is memory loss, confusion, aches and pains, weight gain, headaches, fatigue and dizziness. Thank goodness he has not had the awful coughing that countless others have experienced.
Needless to say he is not taking this medicine anymore. If anyone else has had similar vision problems please contact me.

Rash -
I have had a sinus infection since last November 2005. I had been prescribed Zithromax, Biaxin twice, Avelox, and then Omnicef in a 7-month period.
The Omnicef, a 21-day dose, was prescribed in July 2006. Two days after I finished taking the Omnicef I began to get a rash. At first I thought it was bug bites because they were on my legs, arms and back.
A week into it I realized these red bumps, that look like bug bites, were in fact more than a bug bite. I treated the bumps with Benadryl and Cortisone cream, the first week I had them, and instead of getting better the bumps were getting worse.
I happen to go to my doctor about day seven of the rash for a scheduled check-up. I asked my doctor about the rash. She seemed concerned and prescribed a Methylpred Pak. The rash began to subside about four days into the Methylpred. By the end of the Methylpred the rash was about 95% gone.
About three days after I completed The Methlpred the rash began to come back with a vengeance. I was actually worse that it was initially and was now spreading to my face. My doctor suggested I go to a dermatologist, which I did.
The dermatologist said that I was having an allergic reaction to the Omnicef and that it was not that uncommon. He prescribed Prednisone. I took the Prednisone for 10 days and again the rash began to get better, but two weeks after I began the Prednisone the rash still was not gone.
The dermatologist again gave me More Prednisone to take, but not as much as the first dose, to get rid of the rash. The rash almost went away with the exception of a couple of bumps. This was as of 9/15/06.
Today is 9/30/06 and as I write this, my back is once again covered in the rash. I am now starting to get it on my lags and arms again as well. Bah! I started taking a Methylpred Pak again this morning. This will make the third time since mid-April.
I remain hopeful that this terrible rash will clear up, as it is uncomfortable and cause for great distress.

Just recently, my pharmacist re-filled my Synthroid prescription with a substitute (Levothroid). After taking it for about a week, I started to have AWFUL stomach pains. I was constantly nauseous. I asked my doctor and he said it was probably just acid indigestion and to take some over the counter remedies. I started to take Maalox and Alka-Seltzer, but they only seemed to help for about 30 minutes to an hour before the pain came back again. I asked if it could have anything to do with the Levothroid and he simply said no (Grrrrr!). I switched back to the Synthroid and the pains went away within a couple weeks.

I feel so much from all of you guys. I am 20 Year old female in Los Angeles. 3 weeks ago I had a Kenalog shot for my C-Section scar/keloid. The point is this, I have had my periods ever since. It doesnt stop. The bleeding is getting heaver each day, and darker. I asked my doctor before the shot, he said absolutely NO side effects from Kenalog. I agree with a class action lawsuit. I am an emotional wreck too.
I would never have agreed to this shot had I known of the side effects.

I have had severe bruising on my legs since taking Singulair. I was diagnosed with bi-polar 15 years ago and take several drugs to control the disorder. I asked my doctor about the bruising and she said it is not a side effect of the Singulair, however my drugs for the bi-polar could produce these symptoms. The problem is I've been taking these drugs for about 15 years & the bruising only started about 2 weeks after taking the Singulair. I cannot use an inhaler to treat my adult-onset asthma (which has returned after 20 years without symptoms) because the inhalers can induce a manic episode, so Singulair was the drug of choice. Does anyone else suffer from bruising? I've also noticed mood swings which I will have to discuss with my psychaitrist. I see that I'm not alone with mood-swing symptoms.

im so glad i found this page. i wasnt sure if my extreme mood swings and short-temper could be from birth control. i originally started out taking the patch for about 8 months (i was 17) and then my mom told me about its recall. i asked my doctor and he said it was nothing, but i insisted that i change my prescription. i have been on yasmin for about 6 months and the first few months were fine, then i started to get cramps and EXTREME depression. i would cry so easily and i would start to shake, and id cry so hard that i couldnt breathe. i honestly thought i was going insane. im so glad to find out that i was not the only one. i noticed that some people mentioned hair loss and dandruff....i havent noticed any hair loss but i have had a lot of dandruff.

Hi! I am so happy that I found this website. I was on Advair 500 for over a year and had almost every side effect listed here. After reading the postings, I went to the doctor and demanded that he put me on another asthma medicine. He put me on Asmanex and I've been feeling absolutely wonderful for the past 3 months. Coming off the Advair was scary for me. I had tingling lips, fingers, and skin on my back for almost a week. I also had to use my albuterol every 4 hours during the same week. But other than that my list of symptoms quickly disappeared. Since then, I've only had to use my albuterol a handful of times, mainly on a humid day or when working in my basement or brushing my dogs. I had experienced so many side effects while on Advair that I started to feel depressed. When I asked my doctor's about the side effects, they told me that they weren't from my medications. Advair had caused me to have a constant cough, numerous episodes of bronchitis, hoarseness almost one week every month, severe asthma attacks, constant thrush and other throat infections. I also had my blood pressure up 20-30 points on average, which caused me to constantly feel anxious. I was extremely moody and snapped at my kids and husband very easily. I had trouble sleeping and night sweats. Since I couldn't sleep I was constantly tired. One of the worse effects was joint pain and muscle cramps. My hands and feet would cramp up like I had severe arthritis. Sometimes I cramped so bad that couldn't hold a fork or toothbrush. My legs would cramp so badly it would make me cry. My back ached and I got severe stomach cramps. I had horrible menstrual cycles which lasted for over a week. My elbows hurt so bad that I couldn't carry a bag through the mall. I also lost all interest in sexual relations. I also had jitters. My hands would tremble even when I wasn't holding anything. I also lost my appetite. Food didn't taste or smell the same so it didn't appeal to me. I had to force myself to eat. To say the least, I felt like I was falling apart. Within a few days of going off of the Advair I felt like a new person. I was pleasant to be around and had hope for the future. I am feeling great. My husband and kids are so happy to have the real me back. I strongly encourage everyone to try Asmanex and go off Advair. It's really made a difference in my life.

I am 32 years old and I have gained several pounds despite always maintaining my body weight weight through diet and daily exericise. My skin has also begun to mysteriously break out with acne that is causing scars on my chin. I also noticed that my hair was thinning and coming out in the shower excessively. This all began over the last year since I have been on the Advair.
Before I found this site, I thought I was having a thyroid problem and I asked my doctor to draw some blood, but it came back normal. I also began seeing a dermatololgist to correct the sudden acne problems. I was very curious to find out if the weight gain will be permanent. It has affected my mental health in a very serious way. I have stopped the Advair cold turkey. Is that a bad thing to do?

I had been on Lisinopril for nine months when I developed a sinus condition which appears to be attributed to allergies. I have not had allergies before. My doctor put me on Flonase, Singular and Zrytec to alleviate the sinus condition but after three months I still am plagued with it. I am now having a terrible time with sleepliness. Prior to the sinus condition I developed a tickle in my throat that lead to frequent coughing.
I asked my Doctor if Lisinopril could be causing these problems and his answer was negative. I am going to tell him to get me off this medication.

I have been taking Yasmin since May of 2005. I asked my doctor to put me on the pill because I was having heavy periods with very severe PMS. I felt great the first few months, and everything seemed fine.
The most severe symptom I have had was a lack of sex drive. I have also been quite lethargic the last few months and kind of had the blahs but not depression. I have had a few violent mood swings, probably 2 per month.
I have been off the pill for only a week, but I noticed an immediate change in my sex drive and my mood. I am looking at some dietary and lifestyle changes to help me with my mood.

I have received three injections of kenalog over the last two years to control my eczema. My eczema has greatly improved however I did notice a couple of troubling side effects. I too have experienced the indentations where I received the injections. I received the three shots in my right buttock and now it looks like a golf ball. I thought I could ignore it, however I am starting to notice it when I wear tighter pants. I am not sure if it will go away or not.
In regards to my menstrual cycle I actually noticed a positive reaction in that it is much less painful. I have been plagued with extremely painful cramps for all of my life and since I have received the injections it has been much more bearable. I am assuming it is because of the anti-inflammatory properies of steriods. I did however, notice more clotting. And the first time I received the shot, I got my period for two weeks straight.
I also noticed temporary weight gain which took a couple of months to control.
The other more troubling side efffect was recurrent bacterial vaginosis and yeast infections. I couldn't understand why I kept suffering from them until I asked my doctor and she said that steroids lower resistance to yeast infections, bacterial infections and viral infections.
Although my eczema is much improved I think this will be my last injection because the side effects are becoming too irritating and I am concerned about the long term effects on my bone health.

I had taken Depakote for a few months when i was a young child. Now, at age nineteen, my doctor has put me on it again. Atfirst, I had a horrid reaction: a lovely red rash all over my arms and legs. Tehn I began to have headaches, along with a decreased libido. When I asked my doctor about all this, she said to keep taking it as she had originally prescribed; she told me that these were all "transitroy effects," meaning that eventuallythey would go away. In the meantime, this is hell on earth for me. Anyone have any suggestions? Because i can't take much more of this crap..

Picked up a prescription for Lisinopril today. 20MG tablets for High Blood pressure. 57 yo male, smoker, beer drinker, chronic bronchitis. (Yeh, I know)
Was on beta blockers before (Tenormin) At night cramps in feet and calf mucles, cough, diareah, lethargic, fatigue, cough and most importantly IMPOTENT, Viagra is not all its cracked up to be.
So, as far as side effects, looks like they about simular, but I sure hope the impotency problem will be solved.
I'll take the stuff stuff tomorrow, but thanks to this site, I'm warned. Thanks to all. I asked my doctor to switch me to an ACE inhibitor. I want a normal sex life back, as I did before the Beta blockers, then I think I can live with some of the side effects.
I'll report back in a month.

I'm a 44 year old male. I was on Lipitor for four years and recently started having severe cramps in my thighs and calf muscles, severe dirrhea, severe fatigue and bloody urine. I asked my doctor if it was the Lipitor, and he said it wasn't. Probably a virus he said because the Liver tests came back okay even though had some jaundice.
Like a fool, I continued with the prescription and the cramps got worse in my legs and feet. I ended up stopping the Lipitor on my own in February 2005, nearly a year later, as the symptoms had not gone away, and I developed muscle twitches and tremors. My doctor then sent me for more blood work that showed my muscle enzyme levels were over 350% above my normal range, and a subsequent EMG/NC&VT showed the muscles had been weakend on my left side! He then had me discontinue the Lipitor and all statins indefinitely.
As it turns out I am not the only one in my family with adverse reactions to statin drugs. My cousin and his father, both on my dad's side both have the same total cholesteral level I have at 268, and both are statin sensitve. My grandmother (same side) and her sister had very high cholesteral and both died from congestive heart failure at 87 and 92 respectively.
I went from a fairly active person to someone who became really old fast. I now have to push myself out of a chair like my 93 year old uncle did.
I am no longer taking any statin drugs and will control my cholesteral through diet and exercise. If I live to 92 like my great aunt did with no problems until she became that age, I should be so lucky.

i am a 33 year old male and i have been taking warfarin for the past nine years. i have had most of the side effects that i have read about here. before i began taking the drug i asked my doctor about side effects and i was told that there were only two; bleeding and bruising.
i have since learned that the research had not been done. that is why they don't know about the side effects.
here are just some of the effects that i have had in my nine years on this drug. memory loss, hair loss, itchy feet, blurred vision, headache, brittle/crumbling teeth, stomach pain, non healing wounds.
i have began to do more research on my own lately, since it has been almost 10 years since i first began taking warfarin. the only new side effect that i have learned about is calcification of cartilage. i have been lucky not to have had this problem yet.
i have had no trouble yet with bleeding, although i do get some pretty bad bruises. i usually have three or four bad ones on my legs or arms at all times.
i am sure i will develop more side effects as the years go by. i am 33 years old now and will be taking warfarin for the rest of my life.
p.s. i have a titanium st.jude mitral valve
