hi Everyone, I have been on the mirena for four years and have very important information. Since my second child five years ago I had the mirena inserted. Since the insertion I have also started prozac for such bad anxiety. I never correlated the two until I have been recently doing my research. My biggest complaint with the mirena however has been my ACNE. I feel like crying when I think how this robbed me of the last five years. I spent most of my time in the bathroom trying to remove these huge cysts from my face. Thousand of dollars later on products and peels I am left with scars. Nothing helped and everyday there was a huge new cyst. It was awful, It effected my relationship with people, I was embarrassed and could not figure out why at 40 I was having such acne when I didn't suffer have this before. I am so mad for not researching this earlier. My other symptoms were headaches, extra fat around my midsection and feeling of nausea on some nights. needless to say after doing my research I wanted it removed. I called my docter and she only could see me in 3 weeks so I called planned parenthood. They removed it the next day. The doctor said the same side effects happened to her and that the company was looking for a new formula for the mirena but it was not out yet.
Good News. 10 days later my face is clear for the first time in 5 years!!!!. My headaches are gone, nausea gone, and I have lost 5 pounds around my middle.
Please girls take this out, I guarantee you are not imaging these symptoms the doctor confirmed them for me. No birth control is worth this. I feel like I have my life back. Good Luck. If you need any other info please post back and I will fill you in on more details, right now I have to get the kids to school.

I am 34 years old. I am a pharmacy tech. I have asthma and allergies. I have taken singulair pretty much every day since it came out on the market. I've had asthma since i was about 10 years old. I took theophylline as a kid. Steriods on and off especially during times when my allergies are bad. I still use Advair during the fall and spring. Every drug has a side effect. However breathing is pretty good damn thing. Do I have days when I feel low? Yeah. Do I sometimes have nightmares? Yup. Are "natural" products the answer. Not always. The fish oil that some of the posters are touting can also cause GI problems. Some of the natural products contain herbs and other plant derivatives that can be harmful for a child that suffers from allergies. Not proactively treating asthma can be deadly. Some of the parents are suggesting steriods as the answer - those can cause weight gain, growth suppression and can lead to a worsening of asthma.
Singulair has never made me feel like I've wanted to kill myself. I was more depressed and angry as kid when my asthma did not allow me to partipate in normal childhood things. I was sad and hated life when I couldn't keep up with friends at recces because I was having trouble breathing. You have to outweigh the costs with the benefits. I am more irritable when I have asthma flareup then I am on a normal day. For me, I choose to breathe. And singulair has been helping me for almost a decade.
I'm not saying the medication isn't causing these symptoms but maybe there is an underlying cause to your child's depression.
Any drug has a side effect. But without medical research and the medications that come with them - people would still be dying of simple diseases and we wouldn't have vaccinations. As a society, as a whole, we are a culture that looks to someone else to fix things and then blames the people who try to fix it. We need to stop being the "hot McDonald's coffee'" society.

I was shocked last night on the news, when they reported that "there is no link between Singulair and suicide". I guess Merck is going to stick their heads in the sand, and let children continue to be harmed by a drug that I feel should never be prescribed to a child in the first place. I'm shocked at how young some of these children are! It makes me sad that Dr.'s, the FDA, and Merck will continue to put profit before the safety of the people being prescribed this drug and having terrible side effects from it...and most Dr.s are not fully aware of!!!!

I stumbled on this site while doing research on DVT's. I am a nurse and was on YAZ continuously (skipping the inactive pills and going straight to a new pack) to control my migraines for about a year. I developed 3 DVT's in my left calf and behind my left knee. I have been having charlie horse cramps as well. I am now on lovenox injections 2 times a day and 7.5 mg. of coumadin to deal with the clots.I have also had the issues with heart palpitations, chest tightness, and feeling like i can't catch my breath. I read in one of the posts where it was described as she "had to think to catch her breath". I totally agree! I thought this drug was great, until now. I stopped it last wed 1/7/09 when they found the clots in my calf/knee. Can anyone with experience tell me how long it took them to recover from the palpitations and breathing issues. I am a very health person, non smoker, with no prior or family history of any clotting issues. Thanks for all the info on here and God Bless everyone who has suffered!

I have been on Yasmin since April of this year, 2008. My doctor put me on Yasmin because of a hormonal imbalance caused by PCOS. At first, all I noticed was my periods had become regular and my skin had cleared up. About 4-6 weeks later, I started experiencing EXTREME pain in my right breast. After the onset of the pain, just my right breast became enlarged. A few weeks later I started having chest/heart pains at random times. It started occurring when I would run and that made me really scared. I had the feeling of having a heavy rock on my chest and wasn't able to get a real breath. After an EKG my doctor confirmed that my heart was healthy. Here is a list of some of the other side effects that I noticed: no sex drive, weight gain, TIREDNESS, forgetfulness, cramps in my legs, but only while sleeping, extreme thirst.
I am so grateful that I found this website. It's just awful to hear some many other women complaining of the same symptoms.

I wanted to post an update on my contact with the Congresswoman's office , which I am communicating with. The ALA study we were all so upset with, was originally done by Merck, what a surprise! The FDA did contact me and state that they look at all the available data and have even reviewed this site.I am reiterating how important it is to contact your representative in Congress, they are trying to form a coalition for better notification practices. Our Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand is working with other members and looking for more to contact her office, that have families they represent. Also the Parents United for Pharmaceutical Safety and Accountability group that Jenna has formed is a very important tool.I will hand deliver it to Washington if we get enough people to get involved. The FDA is taking more time than we would all like but,if they have hired more staff and hopefully that alone will expedite this investigation along.I hope the awareness level rises when WBZT out of Boston airs our stories.Again Please Make a nuisance out of yourself with your Congress Rep. it will help to make it a law to expedite important information on added side effects to the doctors and pharmacist .All of us need to come togehter as one voice and it will make a stronger statement. When the advocacy website is up and running,we can all help by taking the time to contact those who have posted to sign up and get involved. The importance of this was stressed to me by the Congresswoman's staff.I also walked in a Suicide Awareness and Prevention walk over the weekend,I took the opportunity to hand out flyers I printed. They contained information on the serious side effects such as suicidal thoughts and actions, so people that may have had a loved one die from suicide and taking SINGULAIR could make the connection. Many have not made the connection and they are unaware of the link!!!!!!!
I am looking for all avenues to travel, any ideas are appreciated.I have scanned a print out of a sheet that is an alert to post in schools and emailed it to Jenna,if you would like a copy send me a private email and your email address.A family member worked with the School nurse in her hometown and made this a communication tool. You can start at that level and just white out the name of the town and the nurse add your own or nothing just the alert. We went to all the local schools and there is no liability it just states the facts, good for the bulletin board in community centers also!Do what you can to help,it is grass roots efforts that brought this country to what it is now.Even through disappointments we still have the freedom to try to make change.Kate M.

Hi,
I wanted to post this link just to give some small consolation to our concerns about the lack of awareness THAT DOCTORS HAVE ABOUT SINGULAIR.This is a voluntary online informational site, that doctor's can join. It provides updated information on serious label changes and safety concerns on drugs. Most doctors at this point still get snail mail updates,in the paper shuffle a lot of information gets misplaced. The AMA would like to have all information come in online, eventually. The link is ******
read it and tell me if you think more can be done By the way my pediatricians office does not have online communication. Our life is forever changed because of that ! Information is playing a vital role in this drugs destructive path ,or the lack there of information.Again this is voluntary for the Doctors to sign up .In this modern day of communication how does important information not get where it is the most useful, I ask you? When drugs are making multi billion dollar profits, that would be an educated guess.I am doing another interview with CBS affiliate out of Boston on the 23rd of June, they contacted me.I hope it will reach more people who are still unaware of this drugs serious potential side effects. If any of you parents have some connection to media ,please use it to your best advantage to get this very important information out to the publicAlso so many of you ask how to help.Contact your local Senators and keep bothering them to reach out to the FDA to expedite this investigation. Make a pain in the butt out of yourself and be persistent.I will try to make reference to this site so your stories are heard. Dave and I are coming up on a year since our son passed on to our lord .Still fighting Kate and Dave M.

I talked to my childs Dr today and she had no idea about all the problems with Singular but she did recommend that I take him off of it for a couple of months just to see if it helps with some of his symtoms or all of them.. But I also find it very discomforting that drug reps that promote these drugs to dr offices usually have no pharmacutical background at all that all they do is go tell the drs what they were told about the drug.. I think there needs to be guidelines in place for drug reps to have some sort of pharmacutical knowledge and background before taking these drugs to drs to get them to give it to us as adults and more for our childern something needs to be done. How many people have to be hurt before they take notice...
My thoughts a prayers go out to everyone who is dealing with this nightmare if you all are having as much problems with your children as I am we and mostly our children need all the prayers they can get.....

SINGULAIR is a prescription medicine approved to help control symptoms of asthma in adults and children 12 months and older.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION About SINGULAIR
SINGULAIR will NOT replace fast-acting inhalers for sudden symptoms. Continue to take your other asthma medicines as prescribed and have fast-acting medication available. If your asthma symptoms get worse or you need to increase the use of your fast-acting inhaler, call your doctor at once.
Side effects are generally mild and vary by age, and may include headache, ear infection, sore throat, and upper respiratory infection. Check with your doctor if you are pregnant or nursing. SINGULAIR is available by prescription only.

My 8yo son has been on Singulair for his asthma for about 2 weeks and he has complained of a 'sick tummy' regularly, ending up in tears because he can't do things. We have had a long run of this, perhaps due to the 8 lots of penicillin for tonsillitis, and some tummy bugs going around the schools I work in. The doctor has been suggesting irritable bowel syndrome so we didn't think of the Singulair side effects until it has got so bad that he is not going to school. He has been unusually clingy and almost paranoid about small things that don't usually worry him over the past couple of weeks. We were trying these tablets as he has been on steroid based preventer since he was 3 and we wanted to get him off the cortisone stuff. After reading here he is off the Singulair today and we will report the side effects to the paediatrician.

Wow, this site has totally amazed me.. I thought that I was going mad for the past couple of weeks, but I am seeing now that that is not the case.
I have been using the Yasmin pill for the past 3 weeks. In that time I have like so many of you experienced: nausea, such sore breasts, a headache that has so far lasted for 8 days, bloating, mood swings, irrational anger, excessive tiredness and a giant drop in my libido. A lot of the symptoms feel like pregnancy - so I am going to get a test today. I fear though, that they are more a result of the pill than from being pregnant.
My doctor, did not tell me of any of these adverse side effects, he simply said it would clear up my skin. Heh... well its certainly done more than that. Does anyone else get the feeling that the pharmecutical companies are paying lots of $ to keep the actual effects of this drug quiet so that sales continue to increase? I don't understand how if so many people are using it and having adverse effects that it is being recommended so frequently. *sigh*
Yesterday, when I found this site (in tears) I decided to stop using the pills, I wonder how long it will take this body to find itself again. Any thoughts on the ratio between the length of use and the amount of time to recover would be appreciated.
Good luck to all of you, and thank you for sharing this important information.

I was given Singulair about three months ago. The first few months I hadn't noticed anything extreme as far as side affects. However gradually my moods began to change. I became sullen and agitated at first. I thought perhaps I was coming down with something. Then as time went on I began to hate life. Everything was irritating me. I had unusual outbursts. I began to feel as if I just didn't want to live anymore, but really didn't have any type of justified reason. I even had begun planning things, what I'd leave to my family, how I should go about it, etcetera. My husband even commented a few times that I just didn't seem like myself. I know he had no clue as to just how bad it had become. After an extreme outburst targeted toward my 6 year old grandson I knew something was NOT right. I took myself off the Singulair and am beginning to feel like my old self again. It may work fine for some, but for me, I'm afraid much longer and I may have truly ended my own life.
