Hello, this is E. again. My son took a nap, so I was able to read a lot of the posts. Many things that occurred to me over time were things that I thought came with the change of life of being married and having a child. Just life, in general also. But, now that I think of who I was before motherhood and being a wife, it just doesn't add up. I believe now the additional things that were happening to me were indeed extra side effects of the pill. They include, no sex drive, weight gain, migraines/headaches, fatigue/tired, joint pain, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, insomnia, nausea, and stress. I have been hospitalized and have had certain procedures done for some of these symptoms. Today I am stopping the pill due to the reasons of my previous post. Within time I will let you all know if there have been any improvements. Take care, E.

Hi, All! I went to the doctor on August 10th and had my Mirena taken out. My strings had retracted up into the uterus and I was VERY worried. It was a breeze.I didn't feel a thing, well maybe a little pressure was all. It didn't take long at all, to remove. I told my doctor that this thing was draining the life out of me. I was ready to hear This is not a side effect or this is not a side effect etc. He told me that Mirena has alot of side effects that are not even listed. My mouth dropped open. Wasn't prepared for that one. I started telling him just a few side effects I've had and the non stop bleeding since DEC 2008. He said he would definitely remove it. After my removal light bleeding the next day. On Sunday it started, I bleed HEAVY HEAVY blood clots and all, until the following Sunday and then it just stopped completely. I'm currently waiting my normal 28days to see if I get my normal period back. As for side effects My back where I could barely stand up. The pain is gone. I can get up and down fine without pain. My hair has stopped falling out by the had fulls. Memory loss is improving. Sex drive coming back. I've just noticed little things that I would complain about not even bring them up. I'm sure over time I'll notice more improvements. I'm so glad to have Mirena Out of my life. Also thankful to have understanding doctor.
Sorry for spelling and sentences.

I began prednisone May 20th for hives from a reaction to an antibiotic. After taking it for a few days I started having ringing in the ears, shortness of breath, tightness in the chest and sweating, dry mouth, puffy face and just a strange feeling like my blood pressure is up. I took it for 7 days out of the nine because the nurse told me to stop it after I called in about how I have been feeling. Today is the first day of not taking it but I see hardly no improvements. My husband tells me to drink a lot to flush this medication out of my system. Today I am experiencing some chest discomfort with slight aching. I feel the same as all of you. I wished I knew of this drug beforehand, and I hope to never see this drug again. I just hope it didn't cause much damage. I will be praying for all of you. No one knows any more what can happen after taking such medication. If you are on this call your Dr. to be taken off. This is not good, I have no idea why this is still on the market. Hope you all recover from your symptoms after taking this drug!

I was diagnosed with Rheumatoid arthritis at the end of 2007 and have been on prednisone since then. I started on about 105mg a week and am currently trying to reduce it but it is really hard as the moment the dosage goes down I lose all mobility and cannot even get out of bed. I am only 23 years old and really feeling the disease to the extent that I cannot even cope with my life. The prednisone has really taken its toll on me and the side effects are crazy! I just want to go back to my old self as I am finding it sooo hard to get through a single day. My side effects include:
Insomnia, tooth sensitivity, depression, anxiety, mood swings, moon face (my face is so swollen that I cant stand looking in the mirror anymore, dizziness, temper, feelings of uselessness, nightmares, night sweats, water retention, and to top it all off the arthritis is getting worse and I am in constant pain. Is there anything anyone can suggest then please help me!

I have extreme sensitivities to most meds. including OTC. Taking any medication is always risky for me. Usually fall into the 1% of people taking this drug developed......
I just started taking Lisinopril last night at bedtime, only a 5 mg. tablet, starting out at half a dose. Was so tired all day could barely stay awake. Also, extremely bloated gut, lots of pain and gas and a pulled-muscle sensation BEHIND my knees Had to walk with bent knees all day to lessen the pain. Can the muscle pain really start this rapidly? Also, anyone else have pain behind their knees or just cramps in calves. Was on 5 mg. of Norvasc daily.. Would rather indure the swollen ankles from that than repeat today's pain. Will take the lisinopril for total of a week. No improvements, back to Norvasc for me.

I just had my IUD removed this morning after reading many posts with similar problems as mine. I had my IUD in for about 5 months now. This month and the previous month, I had been experiencing extreme chest pains (directly in the middle of the my chest) with increased pain with breathing. From this pain, I had panic attacks (which I had never had in my life previously). No problems with my heart at all. Had to go by ambulance to ER and during the 5 hours, the pain went away... They only checked my heart, even though I never thought it was my heart, since it was in the middle of my chest... Movement increased pain, as well. I would feel rushes of warmth and heavy vomiting. After my 2nd episode, I began to realize that my previous episode was also during my menstrual period, which led me to believe that it may have something to do with the IUD. Since both my last two cycles were extremely light flows (barely anything really)... My hair was also falling out a lot after having the IUD.

Hi . I am a 69yr old male. My doctor has recently increased my Lipitor from 20 to 40mg. My cholesterol reading was 3.6 which he considered to high after a quad bypass. I am suffering painful cramps down the front of both lower legs as well as cramps down the back of my lower right leg. I plan to revert to 20mg to see if the cramps stop. I am not sure if I should stop completely.

I just wanted to openly share that I got some very encouraging responses from women on this site and it makes me feel SOOOOO good to just have support. So, I wanted to respond in an open forum and share a bit more of my experience:
To the women who wrote me:
Thank you for your response. You have no idea how good it makes me feel to know I'm NOT alone. My doctor truly IS ignorant and I am promptly switching. When I told her about what I'd found on line she was sure that it was all made up. She said she also googled the Mirena issues that I had talked about and found plenty of women claiming the same thing, but she said that doesn't make it true. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT??? I mean really, I had no idea there were women on-line saying this about Mirena, so how would I even know to make up the SAME side effects as hundreds (probably thousands) of other women?!?!?! She should realize that they call it "practicing medicine" for a reason! And my Mirena cost my insurance company $1000.00...hmmmm...makes me wonder how much of a kick back the doctor's get for pushing it off on people. And I say "pusing" for a reason. I didn't even mention before that the doctor who put it in (the same OB who delivered my 3 month old) sat with me for 2 hours "convincing" me that my concerns about the device were uncalled for and that I should "go ahead and get it". I should have followed my own instincts, but went ahead and did it because my doctor (and her nurse) were making me feel stupid for worrying about the possible side effects, of which I had no idea that there were SO many. They only lead me to beleive there could be pregnancy symptoms and ectopic pregnancy (of which i was worried about that the most because I had already had a miscarriage where they thought it was ectopic). But against my better judgment I got it anyway....
So, when I went to take it out, I went to the OB that I had seen for all my prenatal visits because I didn't want to face the doctor that had pressured me. I figured the first doctor wouldn't want to take it out after only 10 or 12 days. I also thought the other OB (who knows me better and knows I don't have a history of any of the symptoms I've described) would understand and give me better advice as to why it might be happening. But SHE TOO didn't understand and had NEVER even heard of what I was telling her. I mean, really, you should have seen the way she looked at me during the visit. I think she would have had me committed right then and there if she could have. And even though I left there feeling better inside myself, I still wondered if some how I had made the whole thing up in my head. But after finding this site and reading your experience and the experiences of many other women, I truly feel so much better about my decision. I'm SO glad that i didn't wait!
There is another symptom that I didn't post before because it's a very morbid one. I would be watching TV or taking a shower or browsing the Internet and all of a sudden I would have a picture of myself lying dead on the bathroom floor from suicide. This truly freaked me out because my mind never goes to thoughts of suicide, but it was during the near two weeks of having the Mirena and it was happening more times than I care to admit. It was awful! I didn't even tell my doctor that part. She surely would have had me leaving her office in a straight jacket then. I mean my entire experience on Mirena was like an episode of the Twilght Zone. CREEPY!
To ANYONE considering getting this SOB removed...DO IT! DO IT NOW!!!! It was well on it's way to ruining my life and I only had it in for nearly 2 weeks. If you just got it and you think that it's too soon for the device to be causing your symptoms...IT'S NOT! It started causing mine right away and it only got worse!!!! Get it out!!!
And thanks to the women who wrote me and encouraged me. I SO appreciate it!!! Like I said before, it's nice to know I'm in good company and I'm not alone. THANK GOD FOR THIS SITE!

i posted a few months ago after having this IUD removed. i was most concerned about my energy and sex drive. my energy has FINALLY returned! for the last two days i have noticed a significant increase in my desire and ability to move around and get things done. my sex drive is still not back to normal 100%, but it is much better. my husband had a vasectomy at t'giving so i will be hormone free (artificial anyway) as soon as this mirena crap gets out of me completely. i'm sure some of my symptoms could've been attributed to other causes, as could my improvements, but i also don't trust the FDA or the drug companies so take my comments for whatever they're worth. other changes back to normal: my breasts are just big now, not colossal. i don't have "that smell" anymore. even my husband has pointed this on out! my lower back pain is much, much less. my mood swings are drastically better as well. this device is WONDERFUL for some, but for others, terrible. it is a shame that the larger portion of the medical community serving women (and indirectly, their families) and the drug-maker don't seem to want to address this in a fair and balanced way.

Like many of the women on this site, I am so relived to have found out that the symptoms I have been experiencing are because of the NuvaRing and not me. I just had a baby 10 months ago, so I have been telling myself that the depression, lack of energy, and serious loss of sex drive were because of the pregnancy hormones. 2 days ago I took out the NR for my cycle and noticed that I finally felt attracted to my husband again. Also I have had a slight stinging sensation in my vagina on a daily basis, which is 10x worse when I have sex. I didn't realize that loss of sex drive was a side effect for the NR, it has put some serious tension and anxiety between my husband and I and nothing is worth that. I was worried about our future because there were times when I didn't even want him to touch me. Obviously something I never felt before and was very worried as to why I felt this way. My husband has also been pointing out that I seem depressed lately and rarely get excited about anything. I am not going back on the NR and expect to see some improvements.

I had my mirena taken out today. I had it placed in Oct or Nov 2007, and I have been soooo tired every single day since then, and it's just gotten increasingly worse. I've tried antidepressants, I had my tonsils and adenoids out to help with breathing and obstructive sleep apnea, I've started vitamins, changed my diet, picked up a bike.... NOTHING will shake this fatigue.
I did some research on it and found hundreds of women posting online about the ill effects of mirena - including depression, weight gain, FATIGUE, back pain, headaches, symptoms similar to a thyroid problem... some things I didn't think could be the Mirena, but lo and behold, here's an army of women in the same boat as me.
I had to argue with my doc to get it taken out (I read that a lot of women had to do this), stating I felt better on the pill when my body could bleed properly and my hormone levels were a bit different. He maintained that the fatigue had nothing to do with the mirena and the pill just had more hormones, but I said, hey, what I do know is that sometimes, some things just don't work for some people, even if it doesn't follow logic. He pleaded with me to give me a second antidepressant, and I said, hey, I won't fight with you, but let's try it my way first. I promised to go back in a month, and, if the fatigue has not subsided, I will submit my body to thyroid tests and more antidepressants. You've got it, doc.
Well, it's hard to tell so far if things have changed, since it's only been out for hours. One thing I noted was that my body did feel different - almost immediately younger, like my joints hurt less and whatnot. I'm a little tired now, but not as bad as I normally am. I also was not on my sleeping schedule today (went to bed two hours late and had split sleep).
Haven't had bad effects as a result of getting it taken out - I cramped a little this morning, but it was NOTHING compared to what I felt when I cramped on Mirena. Also, my cramps were in a little more normal area - more center. With Mirena, I cramped on my lower right abdomen, from hip to groin, every couple of weeks.

I've been on it for about 2 months, the first month nothing really happened...but the last month its just been getting worse and worse. Light headed, sweaty hands, cold feet, tinglinging in the fingers, heart palpitations, etc...the worst are the heart palps, and light headedness (I feel like I might pass out right now!). I stopped taking it today, my last pill was yesterday morning, so hopefully the side effects will subside today or tomorrow.
for those who went off the drug, how long did it take for the side affects to disappear?

I have been on Jasmin for 3 years and stopped taking the pill 3 weeks ago after finishing the last pack.
I had 1 panic/anxiety attack 2 weeks before I started the pill but was FULLY FREE of all other symptoms listed below. After I started the pill, the anxiety continued, but not with the same intensity - I stopped having panic attacks and instead felt permanently uneasy and anxious and began having high blood pressure. I cannot be sure that the pill has aggravated my symptoms, but neither can I believe that my fully changed reaction to any stress (I used to be very stress-resistant) has come from that one panic attack (triggered by strained back muscles).
The symptoms have really started about 3-4 months after I began and became gradually worse. I went to every doctor imaginable and they did not find anything at all wrong with me, except high pressure, which they said is from stress. I have been in psychotherapy for months and do not see an improvement and I feel like I have completely lost the last 3 years of my life: I am afraid of everything, I am unhappy despite a great boyfriend and I cannot imagine my life continuing like this.
When I asked my gyn whether this could be caused by the pill (I did not even connect this all to Yasmin), he said it is unclear, but I should stop because of my high blood pressure anyway.
Here are symptoms I have experienced, though whether they are all from the pill is still unclear to me.
1. Elevated blood pressure (around 140/90 or much higher if I am anxious)
2. Permanent anxiety with varied intensity
3. Permanent muscle tension with resulting pain all over the body
4. Hypoglycemia-like symptoms (but my sugar levels are never really low)
5. Headaches occasionally which can last several days
6. Facial muscle spasms
7. Jaw/tooth pain
8. Tremors - shaking all over for several minutes to half an hour
9. All the standard anxiety symptoms - chest pain, lump in the throat, dizziness, numb fingers, etc.
10. Extreme fatigue
11. Sleeping over 8 hours and still feeling tired
12. Inability to concentrate on anything - trouble working
13. Intense fear attacks during stressful situations (client meetings, talking to my boss, etc)
14. Dry eyes
15. Dry skin
16. Very high adrenalin production - cannot drink any coffee at all
17. Red wine intolerance - my throat starts to contract for some reason
18. Pressure in my head and in the nose now and then
19. Pain in my legs and calves - usually after walking for over an hour
20. Irritability
21. Lack of interest in any social activities, I avoid friends and am afraid of doing anything outside my usual routine
22. Cannot go on without carbs for more than 3-4 hours without feeling hypoglycemic
23. Severe stomach pains and nausea (occasionally)
24. Itching skin
I think this is all...but there could be a couple of things I forgot.
Until now, I have not noticed any real improvements, but my skin is gradually getting worse, which I expected. I guess 3 weeks is not enough to reverse what has been happening in my body for the last 3 years and I am trying to to lose faith and continue going to my psychotherapist...

I have taken my 15th tablet this morning.
I already knew i was sensitive to new products, and if a small percentage of people have side effects, I'm likely to be one of them.
I browsed through the potential side effects on a my fact sheet and then put the paper away and focused on the positive effects i was looking forward to. I was keen for improvements of any sort!
Well here i am on day 15 and had to start googling to see if it is my imagination or something else.
I commend those women who stick it out for 3 months, but i just can't risk waiting around for an improvement or for it to settle.
I can handle the mid nausea that comes and goes, even the breast swelling, which has been quite extreme. I got a rash -acne like - on my face, initially my face became abnormally greasy too- like i had olive oil on my face! But the following is just not on. i can cope with physical issues, but not mental ones.
1. Moods- Depression and irritability - what a change- I am angry, nasty -want to leave my husband, say mean things to my young children. Don't care about my kids. No warmth. Feel overwhelmed by usual tasks like housework. Feel really negative about everything in my life. Feel sorry for myself for anything that is not positive or terrific. Don't feel motivated, don't care. Resent things that normally i would just go ahead and do.
Foggy brain- can't think clearly
My husband has clinical depression so this is not helpful- two of us being self centred can't work.
Anxiety- unbelievable. I'm like another person- I allow irrational negative thoughts take over. Each day is different, some worse than others.
I've been tempted even a week ago to ask for anti-depressants for anxiety and depression when i saw my doctor for something else. i thought I was going mad.
Fatigue,- some days i just don't want to do anything.
Sleep- a couple of unexplained nights of insomnia and really negative stressful dreams.
Probably other symptoms.
Everything described is an extreme and unbearable change in me, and this effect took place probably with 24 or 48 hours (I didn't keep a diary unfortunately, but the symptoms began almost immediately.
I wish it was a good experience but i am not willing to wait and see what my mental health will be like in a month or two. Not with young kids who need a mum. I just took a herbal laxative to hopefully flush out the Yaz I took this morning. No more for me.

My son is on the 15mg patch. He is developing OCD type behaviors-right now it is an obsession with his fingernails-always picking at them, getting dirt out from underneath them, even when there is none. We have tried adderall and this. I think I am going to try something natural. Any suggestions? He also won't eat or drink all day so we need to go a different route.

IS THIS SITE AN ANSWER TO OUR PRAYERS?
A little while ago less than two hours, after a very emotional, difficult battle with my daughter, we had yet another heart to heart to try to do better. At the end of our talk WE PRAYED for guidance to know how to help the situation. So I'm here looking for a link to her behavior fron the ADHD medication and I see someone had posted about Singulair side effects. I was floored! I have never thought that Singulair was not a safe drug. No doctor has ever mentioned any negative side effects to me regarding it. The more I'm reading about it the more in shock I am. Have I and her doctors been doing this to my daughter? My 12 1/2 yo daughter has been on Singulair for probably 10 years. She was a 28 week preemie and had severe lung issues so it was a needed medication. Her behavior has worsened the older she has gotten. Because of mostly anger issues and problems in school about a year ago she was started on ADHD medications. We are currently trying to find "the right one" . I feel so awful. Could all her misery have been caused by this little pill that was suppose to help her? Why has her pulmonoligist continued to give it to her although she has not had any serious asthma problems in years? I think I will stop all medications and see what happens. My daughter has also been on amytriptylin for about six months also for severe migraines. What do you think? Should I stop all of them cold turkey or gradually decrease one at a time? I would GREATLY appreciate any advise.
Thank you

I've only been on it for just over a week, taking 25mg daily x 7 days and now !00mg daily. I am experiencing mild stomach cramping but nothing else. Have not seen any improvements yet either. I am menopausal, so I can't gage my periods. My facial acne developed when I became pre-menopausal at around age 45. I am now 52. I sometimes get very slight headaches if I don't take the medication on a full stomach.

I have MS and FINALLY tried the Solu-Medrol. 3 days infusion and then once a month for the next 5 months. I have been on it for 3 months. The pain in my joints goes away almost completely, though it comes back sooner now than at first. It feels great not to hurt. The metallic taste and bloating is worth it. The first several years after being diagnosed, I would not take it. Now I can hardly wait for my next infusion. I also take Betaseron injections every other day.

I have been on lipitor about 4 yrs. I am a runner and keep tract of my times. I have been losing about 4% of my speed each year and have recently had a large amount of muscle fatigue. Today a ran a 940 pace and thought I was not going to make it home. Three years ago my average pace was 805. Could the 20mg dosage be causing this problem?

hi everyone my name is Katie, and my son has been on Sindulair for over 6 months now. I took him off 2 nights ago, the day I found this sight. I just cant believe how many families this medication has hurt. When my son was put on, I was never told anything about anything like this happening. I thought his behavior was due to the divorce and child custody things in his life that were going on. It did not cross my mind that it could ever be this medication. He does not take anything else at all.
Some of the things we have been dealing with are, panic attacks at night, bad dreams, aggressiveness, depression, anxiety! Fits that you would not believe. Crying all the time, very emotional. And the newest one, thinking everyone he loves is going to get killed. These are not things a 6 just turned 7 year old should be going through.
I got to thinking that I needed to get him some professional help, this is not normal! I decided to look up Singulair on the net, I did not find anything. I looked up Childrens depression, and angziat, still nothing fit. Then I found this site. Wow did it blow my mind. It fit and it felt right, if you are a mom, I think you know where I am coming from. When you know you just know! So I got him off the medication, and already I am seeing changes. The first night was not grate but better than it has been in a long time, the next day though, he woke up and smiled at me for the first time in way to long, he only had 2 meltdowns that day, when he was having at lest 2 in an hr before. So far so good, I just hope that It keeps going well for him.
Thank you for letting me tell my story!

I think it's been about 2 1/2 months since I had my Mirena removed (I'm on my 3rd menstrual cycle since) I've had some improvements but no weight loss yet and I sometimes feel like I am recovering after giving birth? Does anyone else have post birth like symptoms? One really big one is after having sex one night, I cramped so bad it made me nauseous!! It felt just like it did after giving birth and my uterus contracting!!! Thanks for your help.

My daughter has been off Singulair for approx 2 months and is back to her old self. Talkative and happy! How about contacting the media to see if they would be interested in doing a story on the problems that have been associated with this drug. Yesterday morning there was a story regarding the poor health of our children-high cholesterol etc, and my first thought hmm-wonder if they are on Singulair. I think if more light was put to this drug, maybe we could get answers faster.

In 2007 I was diagnosed with HBP and enlarged prostate at the same time. I was working and had medical coverage with my PCP at Nova Southeastern University. The doctors there are very good. They put me on Terazosin for both. I quickly developed severe rash, hives, swollen face, neck, throat, etc and had to go to emergency. They took me off Terazosin and gave me Flomax for the prostate and Lisinopril for the BP. The Flomax works fine-noside effects that I can tell except decreased semen production. I am a 58 year old male. But I quickly developed a cough and the took me off Losinopril right away and put me on Diovan, which worked great with no discernible side effects. Then I lost my job and had to go to the VA for my medical in January of 2009. Because my medical history included my emergency visit for a severe anaphylactic reaction to Terazosin, they allowed me to stay on Flomax. But I had no such record for the cough caused by Lisinopril. So they insisted that Diovan was too expensive and I had to try Lisinopril. Despite my complaining about the previous experience they insisted. I was given a little pink pill which did cause me to develop a minor cough. But being a good soldier, I decided to live with it. Then in August I noticed that my refill no longer had a pink pill but a larger yellow pill. And that was when the problems started. I first felt like food particles were stuck in my throat and nothing could get them out. That feeling would eventually disappear on its own only to later return. I visited the emergency room several times with severe flu like symptoms, including a severe cough. I also discovered a yellow film covering the back of my throat. And my tongue had a thick yellow coating on it that went all the way to the back. In some places this had strands that extended above the back of my tongue for about a half inch. In addition there were bumps on the top of the back of my tongue. This stuff could not be scraped off. The emergency doctors would examine my mouth and throat, tell me nothing was wrong and refuse to take a throat culture. They scheduled an appointment with ear, nose and throat and then canceled it. Eventually they scheduled a CT scan, which showed nothing abnormal. Finally my PCP examined me and said I had a severe allergic reaction to Lisinopril. So a week ago she took me off Lisinopril and put me on Amlodipine. I'm actively researching the side effects of that and will get off if I see anything I don't like. But my goal now is to find natural substances to treat both the enlarged prostate and the HBP. The yellow coating on my throat is beginning to disappear. Still no difference with the yellow coating on my throat. I believe I have seen slight improvement in the cough, but not nearly enough for my liking. I worry whether I will ever be able to get rid of it. I do have more energy now. Any idea how long it will take to get rid of this cough?
