i had mirena put in about 2 months after my daughter was born, first of all just the insertion was excruciating. the cramps were horrible and i could barely drive home and then when i finally got home i had to crawl up the stairs with my daughter. and i never felt right after i had it i was crampy a lot painful urination. my boyfriend also complained about the wires poking him during sex. then about a year after i got the mirena the cramping intensified and i would get sharp shooting pain in my urethra so went to my gyno and she ordered a ultrasound. well in turns out the mirena had moved and was in my cervix so she said she was going to remove it that day and told me it wasn't as painful to take it out. well when she went to take it out all i could do was scream she tried for a couple minutes to get out it was some of the worst pain i have ever felt. she pulled so hard it that the wires snapped out, so she finally stopped and told me that the mirena was embedded in my cervix and i would have to have surgery to get it removed. i thought ok whatever i knew this was a possible risk, i should have known better. well i go in for what should be a quick 30 minute simple operation i wake up 3 1/2 hours later with a searing pain in my stomach. it turns out that the mirena had dislodged somehow from my cervix then travelled through my uterus into my abdomen so they had to go through my belly button to retrieve it and i also have a small incision on my lower left abdomen from a laparoscopy where they searched for the mirena and also filled my stomach up with C02. I definitely think this product needs to be taken off the market and im thinking of sueing.

I got my IUD a yr ago in March 2008. The only contraception that had the least side effects for me was the Depo shot, but my doctor said I shouldn't use it too long consecutively. He suggested the Mirena. I had my doubts because of the stories I heard. But I personally knew two women who had got it, and had no real problems. So I took a chance. I went in, the first time the doctor couldn't put it in cause I was moving, it felt like strong contractions when he tried putting it in, so he gave me muscle relaxer for next time. But that didn't work and a procedure that says takes minutes, took an hour and half way through I told the doctor to stop because I was having contracting pains. He said no turning back it was almost in place. It finally got placed, and I bled so heavily for weeks non-stop and went through numerous pads each day and I went to the doctor two weeks after and said I wanted out, he promised symptoms would subside, to give it three months. So I did, and came back wanting it out, he said give it another three months. So I did and just stuck with having periods 19 days apart for two weeks long. I was always Pmsing, always bleeding until I switched docs this year and asked my new doctor to remove it. This thing has ruined me. I had two surgeries to get it out. First was a DNC, and the doctor wasn't sure she got it all out, because the ultrasound I received did not show anything. She was concerned that it may have perforated my uterus and went outside. So I got an XRAY which showed it was in my stomach just sitting there, not near the bladder cause it could have caused damage. So she scheduled a laproscopy surgery with a small incision but told me to prepare for the worse in case she couldnt get it that way .Sure enough, the worse was inevitable and she had to cut me open, they found the IUD stuck to my incision and my uterus and intestines were stuck to my abdominal wall. I am now recovering for six weeks and terrified of any other birth control.

i heard about the mirena after i gave birth to my son. at 20yrs old, i did not want another child so i thought mirena was the way to go. i had a c-section with my son. i've had bad stomach problems, diarrhea, migraines, BLOOD in my kidneys, Uterus infection, dizziness, really bad nausea, pain in my incision(from the c-)(I SWEAR I CAN FEEL THE MIRENA IN MY SCAR!!!),sleeplessness etc. ever since they put it in 9 days ago. i went to the doctor and they told me there was no way it could be the mirena doing this to me and the B**ch doctor told me" well i just inserted $700 in you, im not taking it out until you have had it in for 3 months." i am afraid to have it in any longer especially after reading this site and seeing what it has done to all you other women. WHAT SHALL I DO? anyone please tell me, im willing to listen. --Miserable in C.R. ,I.

I had my first baby Nov. 4th, 2008 and got Mirena Dec. 25th, 2008. I did not want to be on the pill again because I never had an orgasm until I came off of it (sorry if TMI). I had a c-section, so of course my belly was sore for a while. I had lots of light bleeding for weeks after insertion and then it stopped. Now, I have been bleeding lightly for over a week again off and on, and my belly is sore inside. I don't know if this pain is from Mirena or from my internal incision? Also, if I insert my fingers I can feel something inside me (the string maybe?). My husband complains of this "poking" him during sex. He says it feels like a pin. I DO NOT want another child, not at this point anyways, but I don't know that this Mirena is for me. I should just get my tubes tied, but what if I decide I want another baby down the line?? This is so confusing for me. I really don't want the hormones and chemicals from BC again. I also have to take several mood-altering meds because I have been on a rollercoaster with my moods. I had depression problems my whole life, so I didn't associate it with Mirena until reading your posts here.

It's so funny...I completely thought I was crazy. I have an almost 5 month old and I kept thinking my hormones were just screwed up. She is my third child and it is horrible trying to take care of them with these severe side effects. I have had horrible constant headaches..as soon as I take something- Excedrin, Advil, Tylenol- it comes back within an hour. The pain is constant. I have had terrible back pain, depression, weight gain- I have been trying to lose the baby weight and I am only putting on more- abdominal pain, absolutely no patience with my children, frequent aches and pains, massive hot flashes (and I'm only 29), and running to pee all of the time (and I feel like I'm finished but I get up and I'm not!). And don't even get me started on what it did to my period. With the exception of about a week and a half I have had it constantly since it was inserted 3 1/2 months ago. And it goes from non-existent so I think it's over to full on with-sorry to be gross- terrible cramps and clots. I NEVER had a problem with cramping before. I don't even feel like the same person I was before I was on it. I have had no "baby blues" with any of my three children so I know that isn't the reason I feel so off- I can't keep my emotions straight. After I had the baby, I felt really good besides my abdomen being tender and my incision pain from the c section. I can't believe the drastic turn of events since I got this thing put in. Thank you everyone for your experiences- I don't feel like a lunatic anymore. I felt so guilty for my children, husband, family because I feel so bad- sad and sore- and I felt like all I did was complain for no reason.

Wow, I wish I had known all of this before I decided to get Mirena. A few of my friends have had it and had no problems. Actually one got pregnant on it. I recently gave birth to my second daughter via c-section and I decided to get this device. The doctor said that it was fine to get it put in 4 weeks post partum even though usually it takes 6 weeks to fully recover from a cesarean. So I put my faith in him and got it put in which was painful. He had to open my cervix which felt like I was giving birth. My cervix was tight obviously because I never dilated due to having a planned c-section. After it was put in I was dizzy, nauseas, and cramped like crazy. I also bleed for 3 weeks after. The day of my follow up, he did an ultrasound to make sure it was still in place. But he could not find it...at this point I start to worry. He sent me to the hospital for x-rays and determined that it had gone through my uterus. At first he thought it came out of my c-section incision. I immediately remembered thinking it was too early to get this put in. However after the surgery we found this to be different. So he tells me that I need laparoscopic surgery to remove it. Sounded like a simple one day surgery but that is not how it ended up. I go in for the operation on Monday the 25th, 2 months after just giving birth to my second child at the same hospital. Didn't think I would be back there so soon. So I go under at 9am and wake up at 3pm. Groggy and trying to awaken from all the meds I here the nurse tell me that I am staying overnight. I ask why and she tells me that they had to open me up. At this point I am in shock but too tired to ask questions. Later on they put me in a room on the labor and delivery floor and the doctor tells me that they had to make another incision going vertically under my belly button down to my c-section incision. So at this point I feel like Frankenstein with all these scars. Well, he explains that when he pulled out the IUD I began to bleed and he could not stop it by laparoscopy so he had to open me up. Apparently I lost a lot of blood and almost needed a blood transfusion. He also said that if he could not stop the bleeding he would have had to take out my whole uterus. Which is some scary shit!! Luckily that was not the case. However I still have a four inch scar and recover from. He also said that my uterus was so soft that the stitches weren't staying in place thats why he had to open me up and try another way to stop the bleeding. But that is my story and I would never put another foreign object up there ever again!! I will never recommend Mirena to anyone! I want to find out how to proceed in filing a lawsuit because this has caused a lot of traumatic pain as well as physical. I also have to spend time away from work. If anyone knows anything please let me know!

Hello to everyone using Mirena,

I got Mirena inserted in November of 2007, I was so scared when I was going to get it done but after the doctor was finished I felt much happier that I didn't have to worry anymore. I was doing good with it in'till my follow up to check if it was still in the right spot, when the doctor checked me she realized that it wasn't there, she told me that maybe it's sitting at the top of my uterus and that she is going to check it on the ultrasound. We'll when she turned the machine on and put the probe to my stomach she looked at the screen and then looked at me and told me that she sees nothing and she is 99.9% sure that it fell out. I then asked her what are the causes for making Mirena fall out? She told me that having more then 1 kid ( I have 3) makes your cervix widen, she then told me that she wants me to get an x-ray done to see if it is in my stomach,we'll i haven't gotten the x-ray done yet but just today I started to bleed pretty heavy, I called my doctor to see what was going on , &she told me that I was having withdrawal from it because it fell out.
Neither one of us know for sure if it fell out or not, she is only saying that because she didn't see it on the ultrasound. We'll i am going Tuesday yo get the x-ray done, and i pray that it is not there because if it is i will have to have it removed in surgery called "Laparoscopy" it is where a small incision is made thru the belly button to allow a camera to go thru to try to find the Mirena". We'll i will come back to update this to let everyone know what's going on.. I hope that I helped someone with this information..

I went on levaquin-2 rounds of it, due to pneumonia. I felt very out of sorts and discombobulated. Dizzyness, word recall problems, insomnia, diahrrea. My tongue was coated with a thick white film. One night my tongue and my hand felt very disconnected to me, and I had a strange but familiar taste or sensation in my mouth but I couldn't name it. It lasted 3 or 4 minutes. I think I may have had a petit mal seizure. I have been having trouble with my vision, things I read are blurry now, and I have never worn glasses, or had vision problems before. I have been off of this medication for 6 days now, and I am still feeling some of these side effects. I rarely have any side effects from medications. I will never take this again.

Well,
I've had about 8 - 10 series of injections of kenalog for Keloids.
My first few were by one Derm, who was probably using a very low dosage to keep my coming back. I did respond well to each dosage.
I eventually switched to another derm to get the shots for cheaper. Again, my keloids did respond by getting smaller.
For location reasons only, I started seeing another derm and within 2 injections (about 30 days apart) my keloids are completely gone.

My only "complication" is that my skin in the surrounding area of the keloid is either discolored and/or dented in.
The largest keloid that's now gone is the one most noticeable that is really dented in. However, the deepth of the dent is kinda consistent with the deepth of the incision when I original had the keloids removed, prior to getting injections.

Had 60 mls. of kenalog injected into painful scar tissue on my lower abdomen. I was not told of any side effects by my doctor, he said he had never heard of side effects from kenalog. At first I saw alot of what appeared to be brusing around the scar. Then the tissue all around the scar began to shrink away, I was left with a large hole in my stomach. I went back to my doctor this month, feb. 2005. He said he had never seen that happen to anyone before. I asked him how it could be fixed, he said he would cut out the damage tissue and repair the hole. I went back to have the procedure done last week, I wish I had not let that doctor touch me again. He did not cut out all the damaged tissue and now the incision looks horrible. I feel like a freak. I also ended up in the emergency room the night of the surgery because the doctor did not close the incision completely. I am going to go to a lawyer to find out what I can do. He should not be allowed to treat his patients this way. The day of the surgery he told me that he had talked with other doctors about my case and none of them had ever heard of any side effects from kenalog. He even said he talked to a doctor from Harvard medical school. It appears to me he is a liar. After reading the letters posted on this website I feel sorry that most of the letters were about the negative effects of kenalog. I believe we had the right to know about side effects before we were injected.

Kenalog injection is the best thing that ever happened to me. I have suffered with Keloids since the age of 11, huge ugly one along my jaw bone which protruded about an inch. It was HORRID. i have had 3 operations and I followed up consistently with Kenalog injections monthly after the 3rd surgery ( about 2 years ago) You should see me now-beautiful!!!. The area is discolored -who cares and I am African American. Every now and then a hair grows out of it, so I pluck it-big deal!! Well now I go as needed and we are talking about an incision at least 4 inches long.
I am sorry for the side effects people have experienced but there are always 2 sides to a story. :)
