Prednisone is a catabolic steroid, not anabolic which increases muscle, so people should know that continued use over time will literally break down and destroy muscle tissue. Without muscle, a person has no way of even standing more than a few seconds and could suffer many falls.....these falls are worse on the prednisone patient because prednisone also effects bone density and multiple disc fractures can result, leaving the person wheelchair bound.
How do I know? That's what happened to my mom. Also, if you are in a nursing home and contact scabies, forget about ever getting rid of them prednisone supresses the immune system so it can't kill them off, even with all the meds and treatments out there for scabies. Again, my mom.

This was the worst experience! I started taking Doxy to rid myself of infection that might be caused due to a vaginal procedure. I started taking the med on Monday afternoon, by Thursday night my legs and arms were on fire it seemed. The tingly feeling you are talking about. I completely lost my appetite. I was tired, weak, lightheaded, nauseated. Here it is five days after I have stopped the med and I still feel the burning, tingly skin. Also, I had muscle pain that caused my skin to be sore to even touch. I cringed at the thought of someone touching me for two days. NEVER AGAIN will I take this. I mean, after all, it's strong enough to be used for ANTHRAX, how strong does that have to be?

I also completely understand the decreased libido many report. If you think about it this way it makes total sense and none of are crazy! Yasmin increases serotonin in the body according to my research. SSRIs are a group of antidepressants that also increase serotonin in the body. SSRIs are NOTORIOUS for decreasing libido due to the increase in serotonin, so it makes sense Yasmin would also. For me this has been a troubling problem along with the others I mentioned. Interestingly I had increased depression and anxiety, but this couod be to the increased moodiness overall. I also agree with the palpitations and dizziness as I have these symptoms also from time to time. These could also be attributable to serotonin-mediated side effects.

I have been taking 1g Niaspan for about 2 years for cholesterol. Here are the things that I have found that increase or decrease side effects:
1. Taking an 81mg asprin 30 min before reduces flush. 350mg doesn't do any better than 81mg.
2. Energetic excercise (30 min on stationary bike or treadmill, cardio, weight training) especially after taking niaspan, reduces side effects.
3. Drinking alcohol as much as 12 hours before taking niaspan greatly increases side effects.
4. Eating fatty foods before taking niaspan increases side effects.
5. Drink a large amount of water (16 - 32 ounces) with niaspan dose.
The alcohol and fatty food items may be realated to and affect liver function, which can be affected by niaspan. Alcohol is also a major contributor to triglycerides. If you are trying to lower your cholesterol, leave the beer and booze alone.

I'm a 39 y/o male and have been taking levoxyl for over 3 years. Dr. increases the dose about every 8-12 months. I'm on 125mcg now but I may have very mild thyroiditis compared with some of you who have posted. I don't take ANY other drugs (over the counter or narcotic) and I eat very healthy and exercise. Some of these postings are a bit unnerving, so I only post this so others don't get scared that Levoxyl is doing damage.

Thank you for this site! I am glad I'm not alone:)...I've been on Jasmin for over 4 years. I had mood swings, felt sad most of the time (for no reason), no sex drive, etc.. Several months ago I noticed, sorry to be so graphic, an excessive white vaginal discharge. I went to several different docs, had every possible test done. They all told me all the test were fine, so basically they did not know what was causing this and what it was! According to medicine there was no problem, although the docs could actually see it! It has no smell, doesn't itch, but drives me crazy and it's embarassing, since it increases after the intercourse. I stoped taking Jasmine about 3 weeks ago. (my husband has been using condoms ever since I noticed the discharge) I appologize if this is a bit too graphical. I just hope to find some relation here between the symptoms and Jasmin.
Did any of you experienced something similar?? Please let me know...it's really important to me, because i just don't know what else to do...any idea how long it will last? :((

4/10/07 from Lynn H.
My husband is 49 and has peripheral vascular disease which causes him to have ongoing problems with leg/ankle edema and cellulitis. He is standing and moving all day for his job and this increases his inflammation and edema. The doctor put him on Levaquin 750 mg./day for the cellulitis.
SIDE EFFECT: Hard pounding heartbeats, skipped beats, fast heart beats. He has gone off the medication for a few days, then just took one a few hours ago. The hard heartbeats started up again, as heard through my stethoscope. Heart rate in the 60s, but many skips and hard pounds. He will not continue this horrible medication and contact the doctor. This is a "dangerous" medication.

I've been on Lisinopril about 6 weeks and shortly after beginning I started getting pain in my right hip. Can hardly walk in the morning. Could be coincedence but..........anybody else?

I've been on Doxycyclene for 2 weeks now. I was trying to get rid of my acne. I've vomited twice. (The likelihood of this increases when there's very little food in the tum)Before I vomited, I'd feel like I was having a heart attack. A sudden tightness in the chest, breathing became difficult, a depression that felt like the end of the world. All eventually leading up to vomiting. My acne hasn't witnessed much improvement either. Either it doesn't suit me or I haven't been taking it properly.

I've had severe migraines for 2 years (they would occur 2x per month and last 7 days - Before that I've had almost daily headaches since childhood). I started Topamax in May of 2006. It's now Feb 2007. I take 100mg am, 100 mg pm. I consider the side effect of feet tingling minor to the migraines I had. In the last month I just started with the eye twitching which increases when I drink alcohol. I still get headaches with weather changes and the onset of my period (my triggers) but not the raging migraines I was getting.

hi All
Well, the results are back from a blood test an RN took and while I don't have them in front of me, she advised that my potassium is "little bit high". The normal range is 3.6-5.2. i am at 5.7.
so after all I've been reading and the article on Hypokalemia and its risks from yasmin because Yasmin increases potassiium in the blood-I am wondering....??? 6.0 reading is where they recommend an ECG for arrythmias and treatment! And i've been off of Yasmin now for the last 3 months!
I just started a Calcium and Magnesium supplement 1000mg each as I'm convinced the high potassium threw the balance off of these two which regulate heartbeat and rate!!!
Anyone experience high potassium rates? It is one of the greatest risks with Yasmin!

Kim,
BitterRN here. You stated in an earlier post that you have some xanax but that you took one and it helped but made you feel foggy. You know you can cut one of those tablets in half and just take half of it or even cut one in half and then cut the half in half again and just take that quarter of it. It might help take the edge off and help you to sleep better, which you really need right now because the lack of sleep is making things worse. Please note that kava kava and valerian should not be taken with xanax because it increases the CNS depressant effect. What is the mg dose they prescribed you?

I am on Advair 500/50. I feel better than ever but have developed a tremor. The tremor is in my family, and appears to be triggered by strong medications. I started on the lowest dosage of the inhaler, increasing it over the past five years, but my tremor didn't become noticable to others until I started using the 500/50 strength. The shaking increases when I am nervous or stressed. It has become embarassing, especially at work, but if shaking is the price I have to pay to feel this great, I'll take it. I would, however, like to get off such a powerful medication, but don't see what other choice I have. Any thoughts?

I am at the end of week 2 on Topamax for daily migraine relief. I am enjoying the low appetite side effect (-5lbs!) but am having a severe problem with my eye twitching. Was quite relieved to read through to see another had also experienced this annoyance. How long do the side effects last? My migraines are not as strong though they are still present on a daily basis. My main problem is dizziness - does anyone else have success with controlling dizzy spells? I was hoping the Topamax would help. Maybe when the dosage increases?

Experienced immediate SOB upon taking Yasmin. Upon looking on the net discovered it increases potassium levels in blood of some individuals causing heart problems, etc. Changed to another BCP within 2 days and the symptoms are gone. My sister also had to stop taking Yasmin because of massive anxiety. Nurses told her to continue the pill for a month as the problem would go away. She switched to another BCP without problems. I hope this helps those of you suffering on Yasmin.

I am 20 years old and I was just recently put on Toprol (25Mg) because I have low blood pressure and have black-outs and pass out. Toprol has made me very tired and I have had a few sharp pains in my chest. I'm still not sure why I was given a drug that is used for high blood pressure when I have low blood pressure.
I suppose one reason is because before I pass out my blood pressure aparently, unbeknowst to me, increases and taking Toprol will help balance me out. If anyone has any more ideas I'm open to hear them.

I have been on yasmin for two months now and could tell the first week of the first month that I had became extremely angry at everything. This could almost be described as rage. This abated by the second week but then nausea would consume me and an achy body - particularly in the pelvic region, lower back, and legs. I chalked it up to the flu. Additionally, I experienced night sweats (big time) and something akin to anxiety and "jitteriness" - almost like having a caffeine overload ALL THE TIME. The second month I was on yasmin, my reaction was identical. Rage and anger and now here I am, feeling like I have the flu. I am so incredibly achy and have severe nausea. I, too, also seem to have some effects due to dehydration and I am peeing constantly. I am stopping yasmin as of right now - particularly after reading these posts. I was wondering if the fact that yasmin increases potassium levels had something to do with all of this. Now I REALLY wonder. I will post again once I determine how things go while off of yasmin.

Took Lipitor 40 for 4 months, had immediate muscle pains in one arm. So my doctor took me off it.
HOWEVER, I took the highest dose of Pravachol (80 mg) for at least 5 years with NO side effects.
Only changed because my insurance compaing insisted due to new cost increases in Pravachol.
So, the ---- with the insurance company, back to Pravachol.

ZoomZoom,
Good news for you!!! The side effects such as headaches should go away in the very near future. Drs. say 2-3 weeks and the majority of side effects should go away.
What you need to keep in mind is that Effexor XR is different than Anti-D's such as Paxil. Effexor calibrates 2 neurotransmitters in the brain (Seratonin & Norepinephrine). It would make sense that you are having headaches in the early goings because the drug is just readjusting what has been caused by the depression. Hang in there!!!
Don't be surprised if your Dr. increases the dose. He/she is simply trying to maximize the efficacy of the drug. I have no doubt that you will be back to normal in the near future.
Best of Luck,
MattM

I have been on Femcon FE for 1 month and will have had 3 periods by the end of this month. I also just had a baby almost 3 months ago, so that might be part of it. I have always been regular so this is new for me. I also had cramps that occurred every morning for a few hours, which I usually just had cramps on day 1. I have found that the flow also increases greatly and my periods have been much longer. I have had tiny bumps pop up all over my legs and arms on this as well. I am most likely going to get off of this pill. Hasnt been pleasant!
