I just got my second shot a week ago and have felt like absolute shit ever since! I have horrible migraines, a lot of head pressure, am extremely dizzy, really tired and weak.. basically feel like I have a bad case of the flu that just won't go away. Not to mention the arm I got the shot in this time is still extremely sore. Seeing all of these side effects is scaring me to death! Do they ever go away?? I seriously don't know how much longer I'll be able to function like this, in fact every day I seem to feel worse. I really can't afford to be sick right now.. I have a 6 month old to take care of, work full time, and am trying to get through high school. What a nightmare. My heart goes out to all of you that have experienced life threatening side effects from this shot. I will definitely NOT be going back for the third one!

I took Lisinopril for 2 months and began noticing soreness and stiffness cramping in my legs. Joint pain and general muscle weakness. Biggest indicator was my inability to ride road bikes (bicycle) nearly as much as normal. I did not have the muscle strength or stamina to ride like before. On one ride I had such sever cramping I had to get pick up, first time in 18 yrs of bicycling. It also states to not use sodium or potassium supplement while on this medicine, which I was doing for cramping. Also because I was borderline hypertension I did not notice any decrease in BP while on this. I have stopped taking this medicine. nn

Wow I'm glad I stumbled across this page.
I only started taking Yasmin 1 month ago after switching from LevlenEd which I was on for 4 months. On LevlenEd I found I was developing a redness in the face (not acne but almost like rosacea) which is something very uncommon for me as I have always had very clear and even toned skin. After visiting the doctor he switched me to Yasmin - something about the different combination of hormones in the tablet and that this should clear things up. Well it hasn't. In fact I've experienced so many horrible side effects of the pill that I decided tonight that I'm just going to stop taking it all together. Side effects include:
Extreme emotions
Massive increase in appetite resulting in excessive weight gain
Lack of motivation
Tiredness
Skin redness and swelling of the pores
Hot flushes at night resulting in sweat break outs (usually I'm actually cold at night and never sweat)
Decrease in libido and dryness during sex
Puffiness in the skin and a hot feeling
Sensitive muscles all over - around the ribs, tummy, arms - just touching and they feel lightly bruised
I'm usually a very active and fit person but have just felt so lethargic on the pill. Combine this with an increase in appetite and I now have a task ahead of my to loose this excess weight that I have put back on after working it off for so many years.
Before taking the pill I generally did not take any medications at all.
I am particularly interested to hear from anyone who may have experienced the same skin conditions that I found when on the pill.
The funny thing is that my sister is on Yasmin and has had no problems at all.
The only plus was that my breasts went up a whole size! A great thing for me!!
My boyfriend is just going to have to deal with the change in how we manage birth control because the side effects I've experienced over the last 5 months are just ridiculous!

I have read some of the board and would like to know if anyone else has had prolonged side effects after being off Prednisone for almost a year. I think Prednisone caused all my current health problems. Was on the higher dose 5 day plan for a severe inner ear infection. I stopped taking it after the third day cold turkey, which I know was wrong because of blurred vision and stomach distention so bad I thought I was going to burst (almost the same as when I was pregnant). The first 4-6 weeks of stopping it were pure _ ell. So many withdrawal symptoms. I went to my doctor and he said I couldn't possibly be having all those symptoms from the Prednisone since I was only on it three days (but it is the regimen where you take the higher doses/multiple pills in the beginning and then it lowers the dose each day). Every few days it seemed I was having something new happen - heartburn, sweating, headaches. Then my thyroid function began acting up (hypothyroidism) and glands seem to swell with my monthly cycle. I started having a daily dry throat. All my symptoms seem to be on my right side: blurred vision, dry throat, swollen lymph glands, ear pain, groin swelling. It is one month shy of a year when I originally took the Prednisone and nothing has decreased, only new symptoms appear. My doctor keeps treating each symptom individually and won't look at the whole picture. I tried acupuncture and it didn't help. Any suggestions/comments?

Hey, I was on this pill for 3 years and over the last year and a half I have had chest problems, developing into heart palpitations over the last couple of months, I had to have a heart monitor on for a week and had the results today, my heart is perfectly healthy it was in fact the YASMIN tablets!!
So today my doctor has changed my pill and said I should notice a difference in the next month or so.
Not only was I having chest problems and heart palpitations, I have been told I was so snappy and grumpy, I was tired most of the time, always felt weepy and generally down in the dumps.
My advice, try this tablet as it may be different for you but a lot of people on here have had similar symptoms.
GOODBYE YASMIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all,

I am 27 and I have been on Yasmin for about 5 months now. Initially the doctor put me on it for depression/anxiety and moodswings. Apparently the constant dose of hormones (especially progesterone) helps your body control emotions and moods. And even in Singapore, there has been a LOT of advertisements on this drug and i know many of my friends are on it too. THe doctors here are huge advocates of this drug.

In the first 3 months of being on the pill, i had really bad side effects - ranging from sore breasts to chest pain to insomnia. But the last two months have been relatively symptom free. Infact, I have lost weight and my skin looks great! My boyfriend and parents claim that my mood is more stable and I am more confident.

But for some reason after reading all these posts about how for some women the nightmare continues even after stopping the pill, I am so scared to stop it!! Do you guys have any idea how long the symptoms continue after stopping the pill??

Hello Girls, I'm so glad to read that I'm not the only one to be suffering from side effects of Yasmin. I started taking Yasmin April 06 and from the beginning was having side effects, light headiness, nausea, hot flushes, blurred vision, but carried on taking it as my Dr at the time side that the side effects would settle down. But they didn't infact they got worse. I started to have numbness in my arms keep thinking I was going to pass out, light sensitivity and the worst migraines ever!! I have been off the pill since Jan and still now I have the bad migraines, nausea and blurred vision - I just hope that like some of you the time will come when my body can return to its normal self and that they obviously need to take a closer look at this pill before subscribing it to others.

I know what Kim is going through and I know Kim's situation alittle bit more because we talk alot on the phone. She did try everything before the Lexapro that she could before she really lost here self. Infact that was a huge, huge, decession for her to make because she wanted to go the natural way. Honestly I tried everything natural that I could have possibly tried for 2 months and then I cracked. I tried valerian root, melantonin, b-vitamins kava kava, health food stores natual anti anxiety stuff, I went all over to health food stores telling them my situation, trying this and that. Natural herbs and vitamins always worked for me but for some reason with this situation it made me worse. My symptoms started in October and I did not start the Lexapro until December. My mind could not heal it self and I was really going to kill myself. I think Kim just hit that point in her life when she started the A/D too. I do agree she needs to give the A/D some time yet. I am trying to talk her through with that. Honestly, if I did not have such quick results like I did, I really think that my life would have ended. Thats why I really worry about this pill on the market. I worry that someone is going to end up taking their life from being so screwed up from it. It definetly alters chemicals in our body. I know we all have been through horrible things on this site.

Hello All,

I am now on day 10 off Yasmin. Yesterday, I had the most emotional day since getting off the Yasmin. I had all these PMS symptoms...my breasts ached terribly! I still have insomnia. And I was a crying mess yesterday.

I went to my gyno yesterday as well and she said I was the first woman to come to her with these "complaints" about Yasmin. I felt so stupid...especially since I had seen her just two months earlier thinking I had a yeast infection. (Infact, it was simply the extreme dryness from the Yasmin.) I simply never thought the stuff going on with me (hair falling out, insomnia, zero sex drive..) had anything to do with my gynecological health...so didn't mention it. I just thought it was "me". So bizarre how this all works out.

Luckily, my boyfriend is being very supportive and realizes this is my detox period. I'll have good days and bad days. :(

Has anyone else suffered from this insomnia? And when does it stop?? I can honestly say, I can only remember 2 specific nights in the last 5 or so months that I had a solid nights sleep. :(

P.S. I am looking into getting the Copper IUD. I got a lot of information about it..I just need to check and see if my insurance company will cover it. IF they do not cover the IUD, I will have to pay for it out of pocket. It'll be around $750 total to get it inserted. While it's a lot of money upfront, the IUD is good for 10 years. So it will pay for itself in less than 2 years...seeing as my health insurance doesn't pay much for my BC. I was paying $40 a month anyway. ugh. The injustice. :(

I was percribed Avelox on Sept. 25, 2006 for a sinus infection. I'm used to these because I get them frequently due to my high allergies. I know that people have different reactions and I know that my sever reaction was suppose to be rare as the side effects section says, however, what I experienced I pray to God I never experence again and consider myself lucky to be alive.
I took the first pill (10 day perscription) at 3:35 on my way to pick up my son from school. Within 5 minutes of taking it my crotch felt like it was on fire, and itched bad! My first thought was "I didn't use a publlic restroom, so I can't have crabs" Things only got worse for me. I was at my son's school five minutes later, and by then my ear lobes were burning, and my vision was a little blurred, my hands were very shaky, and they were so swollen that my finger tips were white and I could barely bend them. I walked into the school to get my son and told him something is not right and mommy needs to go to the hospital, so I was going to get back in the car and try to drive myself, but as I pasted to office again, I peeked in to see if the school nurse was still there, her light was off so I told my son she is already gone. How she heard me I don't know, but she said no I'm still here. Two minutes later I started vomiting, and shaking even more. When she took my blood pressure it had already dropped below 80 or 90 over 40 or 50, and my heart rate was above 125. This was all within 15 minutes of the first dose. She gave me medication for an allergic reaction. The I felt like my stomach was being eaten from the inside out, and I was itching hororably. So bad infact that I made myself bleed a couple of times. The nurse watched over me and kept taking my blood pressure and pulse for close to an hour and a half. She let me go home when it was back above 100's over 60's. She was somewhat discusted with the doctor's office reaction that the medication should not have effected me that quickly, but it did. Like I said my reaction is suppose to be rare. It is just another thing to add to my allergy list. I pray others don't react the same.

starting the ring was awful for me, more so the 2nd month then the first, very dissy, to the point of not walking, black outs while driving. I was put on it for the massive pms problems. It might be endo I dont know, i am stuck in the battle of the doctors atm, and most all women in my family have it. b4 i started the ring i would cramp up to one week b4 starting my period. Now I constantly cramp all month, and my chest pains which are associated with my panic disorder has increased and my doctor put me on zoloft and visitine. As far as my mood has been going my depression has come back along with lack of sleep and night terrors. I have actually lost weight on the ring and my acne has cleared up with the aid of some cleaners. I have had no trouble with it feeling or acting like its going to fall out at any times, and i dont feel its there. The only reason i know its there is because of the light constant cramping i have during most of the month. I was on the path a few years ago and prefer the ring to the patch over any day. The path had far worse effects on my mood changes, i was on that for a year and things kept getting worse and it did not help with my cramps or bleeding, infact when i came off it my cramps had doubled. There are time i want to take the ring out but I am going to stick with it and hope for the best. But the ring is great for those of us that have a bad memory and there is a computer program that can be downloaded onto your computer that will remind you when to change it out. That is a very helpful aid!

double vision, twitches of large muscles to point of near seizure eventually then walked like I had parkinson's - could not lift my feet when walking so had to shuffle.
My primary care MD and my prescibing psychiatrist didn't either one believe these things were not symtoms of lamectal
toxicity "cause they never read about them: infact psych. suggested I probably wasn't BP after all and just needed counseling - and she was the one that gave me that diagnosis/label about 6 yrs ago ! Primary went along with her.
Don't deny counseling would help, but very angry when they said "behaviors" couldn't be due to lam. cause level too low.

I stopped taking Yasmin 7 weeks ago (after being on it for about 15 months). My depression has lifted completely, as have my heart palpitations and dizziness. The only effect I can still 'feel' is a general sense of anxiety (i.e. I still worry irrationally and feel levels of self doubt). I am trusting that this will go also, as the 'rational' part of my brain becomes stronger.

Every body is different and the time that Yasmin has been in your system seems to be reflected in the time it takes to start to feel better. The difficulty is that when you have been through such 'hell' whilst being on Yasmin, it's very hard to trust that you are getting better and that how you are feeling is NOT you, but the drug still in your body.

Remember to TALK to friends, family etc I have been spreading the word (sending emails to every woman I know and asking them to send them on to everyone they know etc etc). It makes me feel better to be open about how I'm feeling and I have been inundated with people who have read my email and realised that they too were worried they were 'going insane' when they were infact going 'Yasmin induced insane'!!!

I'm sending a huge mental hug out to everyone, who like me have endured the worst time in their lives thanks to this poison.

Better times are ahead for all of us!

I just wanted to respond to someone looking for a great birth control pill. I have had one child and being slightly over-weight has always been a problem for me. After I had my daughter, my doctor put me on Ovcon! I did not even feel like I was on anything. I did not gain any wieght, infact I was actually able to continue to lose pregnancy weight. It has also been affective in doing its intended job. (No more children yet) I have been on it almost two years and I swear by it. I was some orthos before I got pregnant and hated them.
