I had my Mirena in for a little over a year and had if removed on August 18th 2009. I suffered from most of the side effects that are listed on Mirena's website. I have also noticed, that between the time I got the IUD inserted til now, they have included many more side effects on their website. Good for them. However, I just read something on their site that I wanted to point out to all of you ladies using or thinking about using this form of BC. Here is the link if you want to read what all they have to say. I am just glad they are putting more and more side effects on their site to inform women.

What if I become pregnant while using Mirena?
Unfortunately, no birth control method, not even tying your tubes, is 100% perfect. If you do get pregnant while using a birth control method, there can be risks to you and your baby. Here we talk about the risks of getting pregnant while Mirena is still in place.
About 2 in 1000 women using Mirena for one year may become pregnant. One risk of getting pregnant using Mirena is called ectopic pregnancy, when the pregnancy is not in the uterus. It may occur in the fallopian tubes. Signs of ectopic pregnancy may include unusual bleeding or abdominal pain. Ectopic pregnancy is an emergency that requires immediate medical attention and often surgery. Ectopic pregnancy can cause internal bleeding, infertility and even death. Call your healthcare provider right away if you think that you're pregnant.
There are also risks if you get pregnant while using Mirena and the pregnancy is in the uterus. Severe infection, miscarriage, premature delivery and even death can occur with pregnancies that continue with an intrauterine device (IUD). Because of this, your healthcare provider may try to remove Mirena, even though removing it may cause a miscarriage. If Mirena cannot be removed, talk with your healthcare provider about the benefits and risks of continuing the pregnancy.

I am 22 years old and had a baby last feb in 2008, shortly after that i had a mirena inserted with minor side effects...well now a year later i decided to remove that darn thing after noticing the side effects! i lost most of my pregnancy weight all but around 10 pounds so that was (150) then several months later i noticed my weight shooting up...now i'm almost 170 poun\nds! i dont eat all crazy either and did my fair share of exercising...not too mention the constant bloating and stomach aches...i have also been suffering from acne for the past year which is way out of the ordinary! my vision has worsened in the past year, im very moody, and i'm taking wellbutrin for my depression. i just removed this darn thing last week and have not stopped bleeding, it is very heavy with huge clots! i hope this ends soon, i'm ticked off because i was not told about any of these side effects, and this darn company should be sued! ugh, well i'm glad i did my research because never again will i get this mirena iud! there was also some info on infertility so everyone should read up on that. glad to know i'm not the only one with these problems! good luck everyone!

I am a 21 year old female and just started taking paxil for anxiety & depression. My mother is on the same thing (heart problems run in the family), and I have only been on it for 2 weeks so far, but have experienced many side effects. They have included: Dry mouth, headaches (only a couple slight ones and this wasn't bad since I do get migraines now and then), urinating more frequently--especially the first few days but this has already gotten better-- strange, vivid, night-marish dreams, flu-like symptoms (I missed 2 days of work last week due to this, and it is hard to know if it was the meds or not since the flu is actually going around!), a very itchy rash on my left inner wrist that came and went the same day, mood swings--which I also had before-hand, however-- More hungry but also get full fast, so I eat more often but have smaller portions.
The plus-side so far is that my boyfriend and I both notice I am happier. I feel more like I use to and it's nice. I just don't know yet if it is worth the side effects now and when I need to get off of it.. I am concerned also about getting pregnant and what will happen then if I am still on the paxil. I have read about a lot of health problems with pregnancies and birth with women who are on paxil even during the first trimester, yet you are not suppose to abruptly stop taking it. Has anyone else gone through this I can talk to or who can post about it?? I'm nervous that I am just too young still to be on it and I do want a family.. also has anyone heard of paxil causing infertility? I have been looking for more info but not found what I'd like...
Thank you, C.

I have been off of the NuvaRing for about 2 years now. It caused serious depression!! It was absolutely horrible. Now my husband and I have been trying to conceive for the last 2 years and have been unsuccessful. I recently heard that there is a lawsuit in place stating that the NuvaRing has caused infertility but i have not been able to locate any info. Does anyone know about this or have any info?

I have been on NuvaRing for over 3 years now. When I first went on birth control I was using the ortho evra patch however, I was suffering from side effects such as nausea, always feeling sick and tired. I eat a lot and everything but while using the patch I felt TERRIBLE eating the blandest toast. I am not a heavy drinker but even one cocktail would cause me to be extremely sick. I switched to NuvaRing and since then I was back to my normal self. Not only that but while on the NuvaRing my period is like CLOCKWORK, I know exactly when I am getting my period. I did not experience any breakthrough bleeding and my periods are extremely light. Overall the switch to NuvaRing was so worth it.

I'm a 45 y/o female with PCOS, T2 Diabetes, IR, and a history of infertility. Back before I knew I had PCOS, I was prescribed clomid, and was finally able to get pregnant. Anyway, after my 3 girls were born ( the last 2 were twins), I went on Nuvaring. LOVE It. I have none of the symptoms anyone else here describes. It keeps me regular, and helps me avoid perimenopause hot flashes and sweats. Once I tried experimenting with going off of the nuvaring (so that I could use supplemental progesterone cream), and I gained weight!! Like, 18 POUNDS! My periods stopped and I was a mess. My endo had me go back on the nuvaring, and I resumed normal periods, and life. But now, I am being asked to give it up again, because it was noted during a recent colposcopy (exam with a magnifying scope as part of a follow up to an abnormal pap), that I have vaginal inflammation. I was told to go off the nuvaring. Well, I didn't even know I had vaginal inflammation. Now I'm off the ring, and .... guess what? My weight is going UP again. Has anyone else experienced weight GAIN with DISCONTINUATION of their NuvaRing? It was explained to me that since I have PCOS, the nuvaring might have helped to keep my weight down as it was suppressing my excess testosterone. GADS! What to do?

I am 16 years old and currently using NuvaRing to get rid of large ovarian cysts that cause(d) severe pain and would result in infertility when I was older if untreated. I was really worried after reading these comments of the negative side effects - but now I realize it depends on the person, really. Since I have been on it, the pain from the cysts have gone down, although the cysts are still there. I am not entirely sure if NR will entirely eliminate them, but they do kill some of the pain away from doing physical activities and urinating. I have always been around 105 pounds with size C breasts (yes, a wonderful combination that most would kill for!) and being on NR has only increased my weight by one pound, which I can safely say went straight to my breasts. They went from a size C to a D! My breasts are tender sometimes, which is mainly the only negative side effect. However, my mood has, if anything, been more positive since starting NR. I realize most of these comments are probably from women in their 20s or 30s, so maybe age has something to do from it. But as a teenager, it has only helped me. Better yet, I know that when I am ready for sex I will be double protected against pregnancy from condom use and NR.
Anyone who reads these comments and fears NR, do not make up your mind just yet. NR has different side effects for different people, which could be positive or negative. To stereotype NR as a "bad" form of birth control is incorrect. It may not work for one person, but the next person could absolutely love it. Give it a chance, and sure, if the outcome is not what you desired, then I would recommend going off of NR. When you are tampering with your body (in this case, hormonal levels) there are always risks. As long as you know your body's limits and what is okay and not okay, then at least try NuvaRing. It's simple, too - you do not have to remember a pill every day, just a simple ring every three weeks.
I hope I helped someone out!

I don't for one second believe anyone saying this drug worked for them with no side effects.
I also don't believe it actually does anything, going by the amount of people saying it doesn't do crap. Seek alternative medicine, and Doctor Redwine of Oregon. These drugs only mask the symptons of the condition and do not treat it at all. the only thing close to a cure is Excision surgery to remove the Adhesions and Endo cells from organ walls.
Don't buy your doctors bullshit for a second. they don't know crap about what causes endometriosis let alone what treats it. Estrogen is required for much more then just reproductive capabilities in a womans body and this garbage drains it to dangerously low levels. risking permanent infertility.

I am a 26 yr old newly married woman and have been using Yasmin for 7 months.
I've experienced really sharp breast pain and sore calves occasionally whilst on the pill, but also have seen benefits of using this contraceptive - lighter, more regular periods, clearer skin and less greasy hair (these use to be big problems for me). I haven't had any severe mood swings either, as some have mentioned of having.
I think with all contraceptives there will be good and bad side effects - just depends which brands you can cope better with.
Just wondering if Yasmin can cause infertility if you take it for too long??

I was using Nuvaring for about two years and I stopped using the Nuvaring almost three years ago because we decided to start our family. We have been trying to conceive to no avail. I have brown spotting before and after my period and my period itself is also brown. I noticed brown bleeding while using the Nuvaring, but I wasn't alarmed (foolish me) and neither was my doctor. I have been seeing a different doctor and I now have been diagnosed with endometritis, which is a chronic uterine infection that I believe was caused by the Nuvaring. I am now infertile and I believe it was due to the Nuvaring. If any other women have experienced infertility after using the Nuvaring please let me know!

I used the nuvaring about over a year ago and since i stopped using it i've felt a whole lot better. When i first began the nuvaring i have a lot of discomfort with it. Placing it and taking it out was the worst, and while having sex with my then partner i had really bad pains. So when i met my fiance now husband i decided to get off of it and use some other method of birth control. When i stopped using the nuvaring i did not get another contraceptive instead i had unprotected sex with my now husband b/c i wanted to become pregnant, turns out that i wasn't becoming pregnant despite not using the nuvaring or any other form of birth control. So i just sat and wait to see what happened, it turned out that i began to not get my period each month well of course i was happy i honestly thought i was pregnant but after so many runs to Walgreen's for pregnancy test i gave up and blamed the nuvaring to my infertility issues. Its been over a year now and I finally got my period again. I know most birth control have a side effect concerning infertility but this was extremely bizarre that i did not get my period for over a year.

I was on the Nuvaring for six months. After I stopped using it, it took me exactly a year to get pregnant again, and then I miscarried. I am now pregnant again, (five months) and have had absolutely no problems. I think that the Nuvaring caused my temporary infertility, and then my miscarriage.

i was on the ring for 9 months. Trust me it was the worst thing i ever did. i had all the symptoms, headache, nausea,no sex drive, insomnia, and my hair was falling out in ridiculous amounts. i stopped taking the ring about 7 months ago and still having the effects. now that we actually are trying to get pregnant its just not working. i dint know that nuvaring causes temporary infertility after you stop using it!!! They don't even know how long it lasts. so in my opinion the ring was the worst decision i ever made..

I have just gone back onto Yasmin after an absolutely horrifying experience trying to come off it.
I have taken Yasmin for 3 years with minimal problems. My skin was fantastic - never a blemish. I actually LOST weight while on it and went up a up a breast cup size. I got lighter periods which was a godsend. I did get a few problems though - gas and stomach bloating as well as headaches sometimes shortly after taking it and occasionally break-through bleeding. But for me the pros outweighed the cons.
I came off it recently as I'm no longer in a long term relatonship and it was just awfull. My skin broke out, I got very oily hair and skin and felt like I was going through puberty again. The worst problem was that in just 3 weeks I blew up like a baloon. I literally stacked on weight every day and my family all made suggestive comments like "been enjoying the cake lately?" I was so angry since I'm such a healthy eater and excersize every single day!!!!! I have never had a problem wth my weight before and the only change I made in my lifestyle was coming of Yasmin. I was so upset with my appearance I have actually gone back on the Yasmin. However its ridiculus to stay on it for beauty's sake.
Has anyone ever experiecend this before??? If so what did you do????

I am 19 yrs old. I am have 2 surgeries to cauterize my endo. My doctor recommends I take the lupron shot. Im not so concerned with the pelivc pain with enod, its tolerable. Im most concerned with infertility. I am so young, and having to choose between going into menopause and not having children is not something i thought i would have to do. I have suffered from severe depression for 6 yrs, and i finally have it under control. Im terryfied that taking the shot it going to make me depressed again. Any words of advice?

I have only been on the nuva ring for a month, but after talking to my husband I think I'm going to go off of it. Since being on it I have noticed a displeasing vaginal smell, I thought maybe it was becasue the doctor said I still was not healed from the birth of our baby, but since I have had the ring out this week the smell has gone away. I also am concerned at one of the side effect being temporary infertility. How long is temporary? On a good note it has really helped my skin, but not worth the smell.

I hope many people read this. I was treated for endometriosis at age 29, 1995 with 6 months of lupron injections. yes, it may have gotten rid of some of the problems like period cramps, but I have developed permanent memory loss; my short term memory is shot; I had the worst depression during those 6 months. The thing that bothers me the most is that 11 years later, I still have memory issues. I wish I had known back then that the medication was not even FDA approved for infertility.

If someone can answer this question for me that would be very appreciated.
1. Does this med cause weight gain?
2. Does this Poloystic Hormon Syndrome ever cure, does is cause infertility?
I'm trying to have a child, and i'm concerned about that issue.
The only side affect i have was diarrhea.....It hasn't continued, but sometimes a little gas.

lupron has me, a 20 year old female, going through physical therapy 3 days a week now. I lost energy and slept nonstop, i am not getting my next 3 month shot, I have 1 week left of this horrible drug. I have 4 doctors and my PT that have written letters stating that lupron has made a severe traumatizing impact on my body, and will be taking it, as well as the doctor who lied to me to get me to take the drug to court...so that all of you know, nothing has been proved to help with infertility, in fact, it makes it harder to concieve, and it does not make miscarraige less likely. (those were the lies I was told) god bless all you women who it affects as it has done me...
please email me at desiredeffektz@aol.com if you have had any of the same problems I have with the lies, and trauma this medication cost.

Hi my name is Emily. I am getting my Mirena removed tomorrow after having it in for three years. Loved the carefree feeling of it, hate the side effects. I have been a gym rat hard core for three years...and haven't been able to loose any weight at all! i am 110 lbs and five feet tall...and completely uncomfortable with these 8lbs that refuse to leave my body! i never thought my iud was to blame. I feel bloated all the time....i haven't had a period for three years, and yet i feel like I'm on it every week.my husband is so confused!! I'm bloated, my emotions are insane and i keep thinking "what is wrong why am i so sad?" The most recent thing has been headaches in the evening....every night. And I am not that "person" i never had constant headaches in the past ever. I get zits on my throat and usually have very clear skin. I am happy to get this thing out, and actually looking forward to having a period and just having my body do what it was designed to do on its own.a little scared of pregnancy, but more scared of infertility.
