I have used Advair Diskus for about 7 months for mild Asthma. It helped my breathing but I gained about 46 pounds. They claim that Advair is an inhaled steroid so does not cause weight gain but my doctor said she has seen it happen hundreds of times. I started a strict diet but still gained weight. I stopped using Advair a week and a half ago. My weight is dropping rapidly so I won't use Advair again if I can avoid it. So far my breathing has been OK and I'm hoping my luck will hold.

Yeah i was taking advair, i hardley used to even have asthma. I might need 1 puff or 2 from inhaler each week. Then i got off advair. Now i need inhaler at least 4-5 times a day. I'm real pissed, i wish i could sue advair. Come to think about it, my sister was on advair a lot longer than me, and around Christmas 2005, she was in hospital in comma, because of advair. They should take it off the market, and pay out billions for the deaths they caused

I'm not sure if advair was the cause, but my son has been on advair continuously for 4 years. He recently had an eye exam which showed an increased ocular pressure(24). I looked up the possible causes for this in children and I noticed some info on steroid associated IOP. I wonder if his might be caused from the inhaled steroid.

I have been on Advair 250/50 for about 2 years. About 6 months ago I started experiencing feelings of heat on my back....like hot/cold clammy feeling. Hard to explain. My skin feels cool to the touch even when I feel like I am burning up. I feel more or less normal when I wake up and then progressively get these sensations of heat as the day progresses. The steroid in the Advair makes it hard to keep my weight where it should be. Before I was on Advair, I was on Albuteral inhaler, Atrovent and Azmacort. I notice, too, that immediately after inhaling Advair, it is hard to breathe for about 30 minutes. Hoarse voice comes and goes. I think I will try to go back to my previous meds or maybe ask if I can go on Foradil and another type of inhaled steroid as I have a strong asthma component with my Emphysema.

Leg cramps at night, causing me to feel exhausted. I simply stopped using it and had no ill effects. Otherwise it was so effective, I miss it. My doctor did not feel I needed a replacement, but several support group friends who had to stop using Advair now use Foradil with an inhaled steroid like Flovent or Asmanex.

I have had asthma all my life. Over the last couple of years I had been relying more and more on inhalers to the point where I was going through two and three cartridges in a week's time. Singulair was what my doctor prescribed along with Flovent, an inhaled steroid. I have to admit, I avoided the Flovent, because I hate the idea of steroids.
At any rate, I have started to have very wierd dreams. They are not nightmares per se, but they definitely are not what I would call restful sleep. I am seeing other side effects here and I am hoping that this won't happen to me. I have only been on it for about three weeks now and for the first time I can actually exercise or sleep through the night without having to hit an inhaler four and five times a night.

another note I just read about was that Advair is also some sort of an inhaled steroid. I read another board and people are taking their children off due to finding this out.

I got on this site just to see if all the side effects I am having since starting Advair is my imagination and now I hate to say, I see it is not. I was scared to death to start this steroid because I have taken steroid's off and on my whole life for my asthma. I have ended up with a depressed immune system and in the hospital every few months when on them and they have a lingering effect sometimes for up to a year or more.
My Respiratory specialist assured me, that being an inhaled steroid, Advair has a very very minimal systemic effect. Well obviously that is not true for everyone! I am having just about all of the side effects that a lot of the other of you are having. Even though, I rinse my mouth out carefully after each inhalation. I am on the 500/50 dose. I have been on it only 2 weeks. I can't quit eating! I crave something constantly and have already gained about 7 pounds this last two weeks. My face is breaking out and I have pain so bad in my hands, fingers, and legs. I have fibromyalgia and arthritis also and have a lot of pain, but this is different and much worse!
My eye sight seems to be getting worse, and I can't even see to read well with my glasses. I too am very disapointed because as far as my asthma, it is much better and I could see a difference from the very first inhalation. I am due for a dose right now, and I am not taking it. I am done. The side effects are not worth the better breathing.
I have headaches, swelling of the face, hands, fingers, and legs. I have pain in my chest and I feel generally achy all over. I have also been feeling extra moody. These are steroid effects!!

I've been on Advair for years. I'm a healthy 32 y.o female, active, with severe asthma. Trying to get myself off of it and have been successful at taking the medication once every 3 days or so. I am working out more and need it less often - the more I build up lung capacity. Within the last year, I've noticed that I've been losing eyebrow hair. So much of it, in fact, that I went to the Derm. for a diagnosis. They think it's "alopecia" - and I say ... it's ADVAIR. Anyone else experiencing hair loss or eyebrow loss, who happens to be on an inhaled steroid? In my case, it's only ONE eyebrow - very annoying! Hair on head is fine. Can't help but link it to the drugs, since Alopecia seems just way too far removed.
