I have been experiencing very severe cramps, nausea, mood swings and exhaustion. I have had the Mirena only for 18 days now and I am frustrated because I am not really sure if I should wait and endure the side effects or if I should just get rid of it. I am going to see a doc today so hopefully they can give me some good advice about how to proceed.

Is it worth it? When should I take the initiative to go and get an ultrasound? How much pain should i put up with?

I was prescribed Doxy 100mg twice daily for 14d for a Mycoplasma pneumonia. Day 6 I started to get a bit dizzy and some changes in my vision, sort of having a hard time to focus but I just though it was symptoms of fatigue or just being hypochonric. From day 8 I started to get really depressed and felt that I was going to die and that everyone was leaving me. On day 10 I also started to get anxiety attacks and had extreme difficulties to concentrate on anything. By this time I also got tremor, weakness and tingling in my arms and severe neck pain. Throughout this time I was aware of the risk for benign intracranial hypertension, but I didn't get any headache or nausea until d 16, i.e. 2 days after I stopped the medication. I never had fever. I then dropped 6 pounds in a week and had a hard time eating. It is now 6 weeks since I stopped taking the medication. My pneumonia is totally gone. The depression/anxiety is almost gone although some social withdrawal and lack of initiative still remains. It's still a bit up and down but much better. My neck pain is still there but is also getting better and I only have minor tremor in my arms. The visual changes still persist but every now and then I feel like my old self again for a few hours/day. The whole episode have been, and still are, the worst experience of my life. I keep my fingers crossed that it will all go away over the next few weeks.

Hello Again. I'd like to correct my earlier statement regarding the migraine. The terminology is "migraine with aura" (it still hurt like a son of a b*^$& no matter what you call it). I'd also like to update you all with an interesting finding from my Dr. app the other day...it appears that I have "hyperthyroidism" which can, in fact, cause many of the symptoms that I've been experiencing. It may be a good idea, for those of you who haven't already done so, to have a complete blood workup, including thyroid tests, to rule out possible root causes for many of these symptoms. I need to undergo further testing (which is just how a Mom wants to spend her precious "free-time" eh?) but I'm still keeping Mirena high on my list of culprits! Best of luck!

I'm so glad to read about everyone's experiences. I've been on ortho tri-cyclen lo for about 3 or 4 years, after trying Seasonale (which was awful.) I thought I was just prone to being depressed and nauseous all the time, but now I realize that these symptoms are likely related to my birth control. While on Ortho Lo, I would get nauseous several times a day, I've gained about 10 pounds, my hair is thinner, and my sex drive is frequently nonexistent (which really stinks since I'm newly married.) I am now switching to Kariva, the generic Mircette, which has a lower dose of hormone, and I'm hoping that helps alleviate some of my problems. Best of luck to you ladies!

My son (now 6) was put on Singulair at 8 months old for asthma and has been o it since. He has never had an appetite and is quite underweight. He complains of stomach pains and headaches daily. At age 4 he was sent to a pediatric GI and neurologist and any brain or gastro issues were ruled out. No one could figure out what was wrong. He has sensory issues and just recently was referred to a psychiatrist for occupational therapy. It was at this appointment that it was suggested that the Singulair is responsible and since he has been on it for the majority of his life we were unable to make the connection. He has been off of it for 2 weeks now and has not complained of headaches or stomach pain at all. His eating habits are slightly better, but not great. Hopefully his appetite will improve over time. I wish we had only known sooner. I feel like such a terrible mother!

I have been on celexa for 4 days I know its not a long enough time for the meds to "kick In" but i am terrified and waiting for something bad to happen. I have struggled with terrible panic attacks since my pregnancy in o6-07 and they have lingered on and gotten worse. I was ok and happy to finally take the initiative to get better, I don't like even taking Tylenol so tis is a big deal for me. I was prescribed 10mg and have been only taking 5 of the 10 to wean myself into this drug.. I wish i could know what to expect and all i feel is nauseous, weird and shaky and last night i couldn't fall back to sleep i felt a lil dizzy is this normal?? I hope i don't have any vision loss also!

Statin Drugs cause congestive heart failure, muscle wasting, memory loss, cancer, damage to the liver and kidneys and generally disrupt the quality of life of anyone who takes it. I know because my elderly mother was prescribed 20 mgs lipitor after her stroke in 2006. She suffers from everything I listed except for the cancer. The doctors did all the tests to rule out other causes but her problems are worsening to the point where she can barely walk. The doctors still don't want to stop the lipitor and won't even require that she take Coq10. How criminal is that? According to Therapeutics Initiative, statins provide only a 4% absolute benefit from having a major coronary event for people in the secondary prevention group like my mother but you have to take the statin for 5 years in order to get that lousy 4% benefit.
Add in the nasty side effects over the 5 years and I am sure that the side effects would cancel out all those benefits.
Lipitor is a scam drug that ruins the lives of the patients who take it.

I've been on Tri-Sprintec for a month and a half. My husband is going crazy due to my mood swings. Of course he gets the brunt of it compared to anybody else. One moment I am fine and the next I am yelling because I dropped the butter on the floor. Ten minutes later I've forgotten this instance and I'm crying for no apparent reason. I normally have normal to dry skin, and no acne (to very few) Lately my face is very itchy and I've had a lot of breakouts. I work in Law Enforcement, and have no problems with being straight forward and pushy, but lately I don't have it in me, I feel very depressed and a lot of self doubt. I also don't have a big appetite, I feel nauseas, and I do take the pill with food. I've also gained 10 pounds in the last month and a half. I don't know if this is a coincidence or if it's side effects from the birth control. I have also had a lot of headaches lately.

This is my first experience using birth control and I wanted something with low hormones, just so that I was getting the protection and decreasing the lengths of my periods without messing too much with my body's natural chemistry. My OBGYN gave me some samples of Loestrin and I have been on it for about a month and a half. I immediately had the bleeding out, which is about every 2 weeks, with one of those times being my actual period. I also have had a lot of pain in my breasts that has yet to subside. Most alarming though is that for the past month I have because extremely irritable for absolutely no reason. I have snapped at loved ones and people I don't even know and its causing a lot of problems in the work place, because I am constantly in a bad mood. I finally took the initiative to see if mood swings were a side effect and I found this site. I really think that this is a major side effect that needs more attention because it is really affecting my life. I have decided to call my doctor and ask for another pill and I would not recommend this birth control for anyone. Thank you for your posts helping me see that I'm not crazy!

I am 42 yrs old and my Dr. prescibed Yasmin to regulate my period and to help me with my headaches. It was one of the worst medicines I've ever taken. It gave me a sick stomach, blurry vision, dry skin, mental fog and chronic headaches. I decide to attack my perimenopausal symptoms naturally and I'm now taking black cohosh. I feel much better. I wish everyone well and encourage people to do their own research and to take the initiative when it comes to their health.
