Hi Ladies,
Just to let you know I'm feeling great, 2 months off of Yasmin now. My sex drive continues to improve, my magnesium when last checked was 2.1 (vs 1.7) and the heart palpitations, arrythmias, and chest pressure have disappeared. I still take blood pressure medication, but I know now that with time I will be able to get off of those.
I forgot to mention in my earlier posts that I've gained almost 20 pounds since I got on Yasmin. I now have to try to lose them, hopefully before I end up pregnant (!!!).
I congratulate all of you that have made the decision to get off of yasmin. Remember what my specialist told me a few weeks ago: "DON'T TAKE ORAL CONTRACEPTIVES. FIND ANOTHER MORE NATURAL WAY". Remember he also said that he doesn't let his wife take them.
I know not everyone has a negative reaction, but for those of us who have it is encouraging to know there are doctors out there that support us and believe us. If no one else, we believe you. Stay strong, you will get better.

Hi Guest 39434
My doctor thought I was having kidney problems because she believed I was having trouble with my magnesium levels, but it turns out my magnesium levels are fine and my kidneys are great.
No urinary or bladder "problems", but I did have an increased need to urinate when on Yasmin. Now that I'm off it has gone away.

I am now taking a multivitamin and we are using they rhythm/counting method with condoms. My friend used some supplements that helped her with her post-pardum depression and she was better within a week. They help get your hormones back in "whack". I'll ask her what that was, I'm sure it can't hurt. She's SUPER healthy.. vegan, looks GREAT. I trust her.

I am not quite sure what to do when I stop.

Dynastar:
I had the heart palpitations, rapid heartbeat, decreased sex drive, and some anxiety. I feel better since coming off in all areas.
I think the people that have had problems coming off felt ok while they were on it, but I'm not sure. Don't worry, no matter what you'll be healthier for getting of Yaz. I've been told it can take 3-6 months for the effects wear off, but everyone is different. I feel better 1 month later.

Hello everyone,
I hope '1concernedboyfriend"s girlfriend will visit the site and see the light... I never had such sever side effects as the one you all have mentioned, and even so I am so glad to be off. My libido is returning and I just feel more normal. My husband does tell me that he felt I was getting very anxious and noticed changes in me that were concerning. I didn't notice them so much, but I trust his opinion. He's very intuitive and honest with me. I strongly believe oral contraceptives almost killed me, had I not had a sense that something was wrong and gone to the doctor a year ago, I KNOW I would have had a stroke because my blood pressure was 160/120.
Trust your instincts... you know your body better than anyone.
Let's see if i can get off of blood pressure medicine soon, I'll keep you posted.

Hi ipj!!
So you've experienced the "logic" of those gods in white with your magnesium levels too.... Here in Germany we have a sentence, that tells exactly how it is: "Two docs, three opinions..."!
I found another part of your post very interisting: You've said, that you went through a normal hormonal change in your late twenties, early thirties... Well, that's exactly where I am now (I'm 32) and my agony started in the age of 27!!! Well, and that was exactly the time where I started the Yasmin. I think that this was the biggest fault in my life, to start that poison and on top in such a "time of my life"...
I hear from many women in my age, who have different "problems" with their health which no one can really explain.... So I found it very interesting that your doc told you, that within that age a normal hormonal change is going on... Somewhat relieving for me!! (I'm going through very hard times again at the moment, 2 years OFF Yasmin!!)...
Something seems to be wrong with my thyroid which on top can bring the sexual hormones out of whack and so on... A really damn circle.... I hope I'll find a solution soon; had an appt. with an endocrinologist last Friday and got another bloodwork (hormones) done. I'll let you all know, when I have the results back...
Bitter RN,
I hope you did get my last 2 posts. They were pulled to the next site of the forum pretty quickly so I don't know if you had caught them... Thank you again for always trying to help!!
Dear ConcernedBoyfriend:
Well, I think everyone of us here can imagine what you and your girlfriend are going through right now... I felt and still feel so sorry for my husband, who had gone through this all with me (and has to do that now, after 2 years OFF Yasmin again...) and still thinks positive and is the only one, who keeps me going sometimes...
So I think the most important thing for your girlfriend is your love and care. First of all, please try to get her to STOP that poison thing immediately!! It makes me so angry to hear, what such young women have to go through because of this "wonder pill" from hell!!!! I think she has the chance to fell better much sooner than many of us here, because she's so young. Please, take the chance!!!
Who cares of a few pimples or oily skin, that's definitely not worth staying your whole life in such a constitution!! The pimples and oily skin and weight gain were my slightest problems within that agony... Some months I didn't care at all about how I might be looking... I just would have been thankful to be able to get out of my house again someday, even if I had a few pimples or such in my face... And before that nightmare I was such a health and look caring person (I've been a singer in a band for 15 years now....).
I hope your girlfriend will come to this site and see, what is doing all that to her and stop that thing asap!!! I wish you both all the best!!
Best wishes to all.

KIM 123:
I think one of the most important things is that you recognize it's not normal and are talking about it. Being honest with yourself and others around you is so important.
Have you tried vitamin or herbal supplements to regulate your moods? Until your body can get back to its normal self, it may need a little help. Plus, you may be going through a normal hormonal change on top of everything else. I don't know how old you are, but when I was in my late twenties/early thirties I went through a serious change, and my doctor said it was normal. Everyone reacts differently (some not at all). Take that into consideration.
You are going to be ok. Give it time.

@ipj:
Thanks for your immediate answer.
Those are symptoms I'm also experiencing......
But here in Germany it's so hard to get a magnesium test (and even some other tests) done. Everything seems to expensive to test for our docs here and so they refuse them... But after reading your posts and the result of your magnesium test I think I should at least ask or beg my doc again, if he perhaps could do that test... I feel that there has to be something still not ok, even being off Yasmin for about 2 years now....
Everytime I got a cold or I got my period I'm feeling worse again, and this time I fear it's gotten very bad... So there has to be still a lack of something in my body which gets out of balance when the slightest change in my body is happening (as my period or a heavy cold with loosing lots of sweat because of the fever, and so on....).
Thank you so much again ipj for sharing your story!!!
Perhaps my doc gets a bit more cooperative if he hears, that there is really someone whose magnesium test came back much too low......
Greetings

I had some dizziness and a pressure like feeling in my chest. I sometimes felt like I had to catch my breath. Those are the only things that I had that I can associate with the magnesium deficiency.

@ ipj:
Did you have any other symptoms caused by that magnesium deficiency?? Would be so interesting to hear, if you also had cramps in your legs or so. I always wonder, if those cramps HAVE TO BE THERE, if you have a lack of magnesium or if it even can be shown alone by all the other symptoms (nervousness, heart palps, dizzyness, headaches, etc.)...
Best wishes

Hey all:
Thank you to the guest that posted her 2 year story. I was so inspired. I will write to my friends and family.
Also: I called Berlex and reported my side effects. Thanks for the information on how to reach them.
Lastly: I am not 2 weeks Yasmin free, and I fee GREAT. My sex drive is back and my energy seems to be returning.
Thank you to everyone who has posted, your stories helped me make the best decision for my health I've made in a long time. I would like to go to the new link but I cannot access it from work.
More news later.

I have had the bronchial problems while on yasmin and while on ortho-cyclene. I never related the two.. I still think it's allergies because it started when I moved to NC, and it only happens in the fall/winter.
My experience with yasmin I thought was great until I started to put two and two together. I didn't have the mood swings and my skin looked great. But when I realized my magnesium levels dropped causing my heart palpitations and ridiculous need to pee ALL the time, as well as my blood pressure going through the roof... I joined this forum and now I'm off Yasmin. My husband very supportive of my decision.
One thing I will say, I'm so grateful I listened to my body and went in for a check-up because I felt "funny". I know I would have had a stroke- my BP was 160/120. Now with medication it's normal. Hopefully with time I can get off BP as well, that's my goal.
I'll keep you all posted on my magnesium I have an appointment in Feb.

Hi IPJ!!
Well, thank you so much for your post!! It's another peace of hope for me and I think for many others also. Here in Germany the health system is not very comfortable these days so you sometimes really have to "fight" to get any kind of bloodwork done because everything seems to "expensive" to the docs...
So I didn't get my magnesium levels checked, yet, they always just did the "normal bloodwork" and simply don't know how my magnesium levels are. I always just felt the symptoms of magnesium deficiency (muscle problems, racing heart and palpitations, muscle hurting and so on...) and expected that the Yasmin and its diuretic had caused a magnesium deficiency (as I read from so many sites!!) in my body, too.
I'll have another bloodwork on Friday (had an appt. with my fam.doc yesterday and told him about my again upcoming symptoms), hopefully he'll find something.....
I wish you all the best IPJ and keep us posted!!

dear ipj-

anyone discovered they developed allergies after going off of Yasmin?
what was your experience on Yasmin?

Sorry I haven't been on in a while- just to answer the question: I had blood work done, that's how they determined that my magesium was low. It's not climbing very quickly either, we'll see after my appointment.
Also: the bronchial stuff... I thought I was developing asthma! I moved to NC and have had issues with a feeling of compression, but only in the winter months. It seems to have passed, I'll keep you posted. It probably is allergies because when I went to MD it completely went away.
Interesting to hear that I'm not the only one with the magnesium deficiency. This is the only site where I've seen it posted.

hi ipj.
whilst googling yasmin and all the symptoms etc i came across quite a few references to the fact that bcp's in general can lower magnesium but i think yasmin has a higher impact on the magnesium levels due to it's diuretic effect so it probably is the yasmin that is affecting how much magnesium you are absorbing. along with all your other side effects it may be just as well to come off it. The fda has stated that yasmin is no better or safer than any other pill on the market the medical profession are just really pushing it for some reason...... back in the 60's and 70's there was a new wonder drug that was pushed to all the pregnant women as it stopped morning sickness...thalidamide....... i am sure you know the outcome of that story.just because a new drug is great for some it does not mean it is good for the masses. chat to your doctor about a pill that does not contain the diuretic that yasmin has.dehydration could make your symptoms worse so stay hydrated, drink as much water as you can.
please feel free to visit the new forum that is being set up. the link is below in my previous post.
kind regards and the best of luck with whatever you decide.

Call your doctor and tell them what's going on. Since we're not doc's I don't want to mislead you and have something bad happen to you. Since you've only been on it a few days, it may be ok to stop. Don't wait though, call your doctor right away.
