- I had the Mirena put in last November and and have not stopped bleeding since. I called the doctor and she told me that I would experience this and would have to give it a little time. Last Tuesday I felt an awful cramping come over me while I was at work, almost like a miscarriage sensation. I took some ibuprofen and the pain subsided after a while, later that day I started bleeding very heavily went to the rest room and HUGE clots were coming down. I thought it was just a bad period. Last night I went to feel for the IUD and noticed it was missing. I will be going to the doctor tomorrow and will let you know what happened but I just can't help but think it disattached and well God only knows where it went.
Has anyone experienced this? I have noticed some mood swings, not the weight gain but definitely the cramping .

i am taking prednisone for sarcoid. 40mg for 3 days,35mg for 3 days weaning down to 5mg for 3 days. This is my 2nd day and i haven't slept for 2 solid nights. My daytime is great, i have so much energy, but when i try to sleep my body still want to get up and get going. My legs seem to twitch terribly in bed as if they don't want to stop moving. I have tried nightol which is a sleeping remedy but its not working. I am typing this at 2.in the morning. Help! I think ill phone the doctor in the morning and ask to swop these for another alternative. I love my sleep!!!

I am 37, and developed a DVT in my left calf possibly due to birth control pills. I was tested for Factor 5 Leiden and since I was positive that may have been a contributing factor as well. Waking up in the middle of the night and first thing in the morning with excruciating pain was a daily occurrence and finally after 2 weeks of Lovenox injections and warfarin the pain subsided. I still experience post thrombotic pain in the back of my leg three months after starting the medication. My INRs are inconsistent and my doctor keeps changing my dosage. I have been avoiding all food that that can interact with the meds, it is extremely irritating. I have been doing an hour of low impact exercise daily and am looking forward to when I can finally go jogging and increase my cardio workouts. I can't wait till I can finally be off the medication it affects everything I do.

Having read all the other peoples comments, am feeling a little less like I am going mad! I am 33 and have no children and had the Mirena coil fitted 18 months ago to combat VERY heavy periods and a dangerously low iron level (i suffer from PCOS). All seemed to be going well for the first 6 months or so- still bleeding but less heavily and a little bit of weight gain, but nothing too scary. Then 9 months in I got what seemed to be a very bad case of herpes the doctor didn't do a blood test, but did give me medication and pain killers.....I have been with my partner for 4 years, we are both faithful and I have never even had a cold sore before!
In the past 9 months my period have been getting more frequent again (one every couple of weeks for about 5 days) but not as heavy as before AND I am getting a very swollen every month with dry itchy areas and sometimes a blister! Does anyone know if it can cause a dormant herpes infection to become active? I am also putting on weight more and the mood swings are getting more pronounced....lots of uncontrollable for no reason and my sex drive is either very high or not there.
I think I will get it removed, but I am scared of the effect this will have on my periods........can anyone help!

Kim,

I didn't know that you also are a vegetarian!! That's another mark for the fact, that you're assessed to be iron deficient (iron is mostly contained in meat!)!

Don't know if you already did, what I suggested (googling about iron deficiency). The Ferritin is the more important parameter than your iron level in your blood because the Ferritin shows the condition of your storage!! And if your storage of iron is still low you can have the symptoms you now are having.

And if you put this together with the side effects of Yasmin, you're DEFINITELY still suffering from, it is no miracle, that you're feeling so low now!!

Are you still taking the iron supplements every day?? Kim, I really hope that you believe me, how important that is for your situation!!!

The problem with the dopamin and serotonin is clearly a thing, which can be caused by bcp. You have to know that those two are also hormones!! And so it's simply clear, that, if your whole hormonal equilibrium is out of whack, the serotonin and dopamin might be also!!!

This is why time can help us all. Your body is able to get everything back in balance, if only he gets enough time for that difficult thing!!!

You didn't write anything, if you already had tried the Valerian (sorry, sometimes I still get the feeling that you're not reading really everything we all are writing here)!??

To the lady, who took Yasmin only 3 months:

You should be thankful, that your symptoms have come up that early. I know it sounds weird, but I think getting the side effects only after 2 years without noticing and taking that poison another 3 years has really damaged my body worse than if I only had taken Yasmin about 3 months. This can protect you from much more and worse symptoms than you are having now!!

Sarah:

I forgot to mention, that I also during my worst time lost about 20 pounds in only 4 weeks because I couldn't eat anything!! And I felt the same as you wrote: I would have been rather fat and healthy than slim and ill and not able to leave my house and having to go through all this nightmare... I totally understand, what you mean!!

But as this was the same for me, I really think that your weight will also get back to normal if you give it enough time. With the excercising I also agree with you! I still haven't been that fit again, as I was before that all. But, ok, 5 years of Yasmin were definitely too long and I know that I'll have to be much more patient than others and give it much more time to get back to where it was than others..... Hope I'll stand it further on...

But being able to sing again helps me very much. Although there always is some insecurity and anxiety in me, because I'm always afraid of getting as weak as I was during the last two months and that everything could break down again, what I' ve built me up now... (ok, although the weakness (thanks god) has gotten better again).

So ladies, just lets try to look forward and perhaps some day forget that nightmare (ok, I don't believe myself what I'm saying, don't know if I ever can forget, what I've been going through....).

One thing for those who have been only a few months on Yasmin: Please be careful and if you have the slightest doubt or the slightest symptom: GET OFF IT IMMEDIATELY!! You have the chance to avoid so many harm and sorrow!!!

Best wishes
Silke

I have a side effect of a sexual nature. It is very uncomfortable when having sex and my husbands sperm burns me. My doctor said that he didn't think that it was the cause but I know when I lower the dose or get off it stops. Also my Iron level has drop.
