My husband and I were going to try to have a baby and then I was rear ended in a car accident causing nerve pain in my lower back. I had the injection without being told of the irregular period side effect even after the doctor knew we were trying to have a baby. I am very upset. Has anyone had luck regulating their period after a Kenalog injection? I had the injection 4 weeks ago. I had very predictable periods prior to the injection. I missed my period 2 weeks after the injection and then a week later began spotting that hasn't stopped for 4 weeks. It gets light and then heavy with no indication prior to being heavy. There are clots. How long does it take for the cycle to return to normal? I think I am getting depressed worrying about if I will ever be able to have a normal period and have my baby.

I am 27 and I started birth control at age 21. I always had an irregular period with terrible cramping. I also had a very high sex drive.

The first pill I tried was Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo and I stopped taking it after 2 months because I felt depressed and I totally lost my sex drive. I always had perfectly clear skin and about a week after I discontinued this pill I broke out on my face and my back. I had a rash on my forehead. I also noticed a few dark hairs on my chin.

The next birth control I tried was the NuvaRing. This also made me depressed and moody.

I have now been on Loestrin 24 Fe for more than 2 years and this is the one that has worked best for me. The first few months I had my period and spotting. The first year on Loestrin I got my period once every 3 months and the period maybe lasted a couple of days and was very light. I must have taken more than 5 pregnancy tests. I asked my doctor about it and he told me that there was nothing to worry about not having periods. The second year my periods got even further apart. I went 5 months without a period then almost a whole month having a period (very light and a lot of cramping).

Besides having my period coming and going as it pleases, I feel great. My sex drive is still alive and I haven't experienced any mood swings. I do still break out on my face, usually around the end of my pack. I have not had a problem with breaking out on my back with this pill. I have gained a little weight, but after I hit 25 my metabolism really slowed down, so I cannot completely blame weight gain on the pills. I believe you have to work twice as hard to maintain a healthy weight when you get older.

With that said, I wish everyone the best on their BC journey!

For 2 years I delt with body numbing pains! I literally thought I was dying. I lost weight, could not eat, was having diarrhea everyday. I am a small person 5'2 and 100 lbs. When i started loosing weight I was down to 89 lbs!! I thought I had a bug inside of me. I went to 5 different hospitals in 1 year b/c of the pains I was having. Each hospital said I had UTI infections or I my blood pressure was up. I noticed these pains mostly come around when I am supposed to get my periods. I finally went to a OBGYN and the OBYGN told me that I had PMS and put me on birth control pills. I felt like the doctor didn't listen ot what I was saying about my pains. I went to another OBGYN and she listened did tests acted like her actually cared! FINALLY! She said that I had 5 ovarian cysts on my left ovary and 4 ovarian cysts on my right ovary and the pain must of been from them popping. None of the cysts were large enough to be surgically removed. The doctor determined that they were all bynine. 2 months later I had a check up appt and explained Im still in pain around my cycle (I would never get my period - I always had a irregular period) She reviewed my tests and determined that I was slightly anemic and that it sounds like I have Endometrosis. She put me on a birth control pill that did not agree with me so I went back and she gave me 2 options: The Mirena or The Ring. I chose the Mirena because it sounded like a better option. I mean 5 years without pain?!?! Im all in! She tried inserting the Mirena in her office and was no successful. She said b/c I never had any kids before my cervix was to closed so I had to go to out patient surgery and get it surgically inserted Aug 2008. For the first 2 weeks I was fine. No cramping no bleeding no pain. Then it hit me! I started bleeding real heavy I was crampy all day no matter how many IBP I took. Within the first month I had to go back b/c I was bleeding a little to much and with all the weigh lost I had in the last couple of months they wanted to monitor me. She said because she tried inserting the Mirena in her office I must of gotten an infection that is causing my cervix to bleed and not heal properly.I wish I told her to remove the Mirena at that point! For the next 7 months I bleed everything single day!!!! I would get real dull pains in my legs to the point where I couldn't even stand any more, my back would hurt if I was to sit down for a long period, I got headaches to the point I was sick, I would cry at anything (and still do). Instead of getting a normal period I get this thick brown gunk that comes out of me for days. I thought the Mirena is supposed to make your boobs bigger? I LOST a cup size! The only think positive I can say about the Mirena is that I gained weight and I am not in pain from the Endometriosis! I am definitely going to get the Mirena removed ASAP!

I am 42 years old and started taking Loestrin in January to regulate my irregular period and I suffer from ovarian cysts as well. The first 2 months my body ached like I had the flu. I could not stand for my knees to touch each other as I slept, so I had to sleep with a pillow between my legs. My knees ached like I was about 70 years old with arthritis. I had lost 5 lbs by the time I got to the 3rd row of my 1st packet. My normal period only lasted 3-4 days anyway, so that did not change at all. However, last month, my period came 1 week early starting out with "spotting" or "breakthrough bleeding" for 3 days and what I assumed was my "period" last for 7 days and back to "spotting" for 3 days after that. I thought it would never end!!! I was about to go the ER and have them administer the shot that stops your period! On top of that, I suffered with severe lower back, knees, and lower part of my stomach pains that were almost unbearable. I also have experienced severe headaches (may be migraines) since I have started taking Loestrin. And sex, oh forget about it!! Sex has been painful to the point where I have to stop and lay in the fetal position for about 20 minutes before I can get myself together. What is that all about!!? My daughter who is 17 started at the same time I did with Yaz to help with dysmenorrhea and acne, and she's been fine!! (Except for a little weight gain!!) What is it about this pill that does this to our bodies? I said I would give it 1 more month (June) and see what happens. If my body and period go haywire this month, I will discontinue Loestrin and deal with the irregular periods!

I am 21 and I was put on Loestrin 24 Fe for severe cramps and an irregular period. I was on it for a full year and had no major side effects... however I wasn't able to refill my prescription after the year was up until I went to see my gyno again... so I was off of it for two months. The doc put me back on loestrin as I requested since it helped A LOT with cramps and I had a very light period but since starting to retake it I haven't had a period since January of this year.. I am on my 5th pack for the year and called the gyno to make sure that everything was ok, and she said it was normal... I am not sexually active so I don't have to worry about being pregnant but not having a period when I had one every month for a year and then to not have any is just strange to me... so I am either lucky to not have one or hopefully it will figure things out sooner or later!

All in all its been a great bcp for me this is the only problem if it is even a problem I have had.

I was prescribed Quasense for 7 months ago because I had an irregular period. Some months I would be late and other months it wouldn't come at all. You can imagine the fear I had with that. I think I singlehandedly kept the pregnancy test industry in business. So my doctor prescribed this for me. I never experienced any spotting at all however on the first pack I had extreme breast tenderness. While this wasn't unusual on my other BC pills it was unusual that it lasted an entire month. During the second pack when when I noticed I was no longer interested in sex. This was VERY strange as I normally have a very high libido. Even when I try I just can't get into it. Areas that are normally sensitive to touch aren't. I'm now on my third pack and over the past two weeks I have woke to pounding headaches. It's very frustrating so I have asked my doctor to take me off . I will go back to bleeding once a month for a day and a half (maybe even every other month) if I can have my sex life back without any headaches.

While having the mirena for 3 months i would get light periods, brown spotting that would last for two weeks. I got it removed on 1/29/09 while on my period and then started regular bleeding two days after the removal which lasted five days. My period went away on 2/5/09. To my surprise, I started my period again 2/15/09 which is regular know. Why would I get my period after one week of having a period??? Is this irregular period due to the removal of the mirena? This is extremely weird for me!

This website had made me sane!!! I have recently become a crazy woman searching side effects of birth control like it was my job, it has taken up my entire head!.. I started nuvaring four months ago (first form of birth control ever) to help control my horrible pms and very irregular period, and it helped that out, HOWEVER, I have recently decided I would prefer the pms over these awful, AWFUL symptoms. Although little spurts occurred here and there, this month is the absolute worst. I have managed to gain 12 lbs in under a month ...(keep in mind I am a work-out freak and have made sure to burn as many calories as I take in each day simply because I just can't stop gaining the weight!) I don't fit into any of my clothes and I just do not like the way I look. It is as if my body has just gotten wider and larger. I used to love my body and now I cant stand looking in the mirror everyday. My eating habits are awful....I try to starve myself for periods of time because I simply cannot help myself when I enter the kitchen. I feel like a bulimic girl, without the puking afterward. My binges are DISGUSTING, I'm actually ashamed. The worst symptom of all, though, are the mood swings. I cry at the drop of a hat every single night, I'm 20 years old away at college, and last night I cried because all I wanted was my "mommy." That's embarrassing. Not to mention my boyfriend thinks I am absolutely nuts because I have "changed." When you tell a severely hormonal woman she has "changed" you better expect a shoe or the nearest object to fly at you, which is exactly what I did. I CAN'T HELP IT! I also have been having negative thoughts about life as a whole lately and have even entered the realm of slight suicidal thoughts, or at least thinking my life was worthless. I've been through too much with my cycle to stop it now (even though I feel like ripping this thing out ASAP) and have 2 weeks left before I can take it out FOR GOOD! If anyone has any feedback they want to share to keep me sane through these last 2 weeks PLEASE PLEASE share! Also, does anybody know how long it will take for me to get my life back?! =(

My daughter had her second gardasil shot the first week of January, she started her period the next day, it is feb 2nd and she is still bleeding, she has never had an irregular period before, so I am guessing it is from the shot.

Since my daughter second gardasil shot she has become tired all the time, she passed out on November 10 and was taken to the doctor. She orderd an EKG, chest xray and blood work. They called me that night and said she has an irregular slow heart beat ( which she has never had before). We went to a heart specialist the next day, he did an echo cardiogram and said things looked fine. If she passed out again, for me to call him and he sent us on our way. Tonight, while she was walking at work, it happend again. We went to E.R. and basically were told to follow up with her doctors on Monday. She is supposed to get the third shot in December, now i am afraid for her to get it. Im wondering if her suddenly getting the slow irregular heart beat, and passing out, irregular period, and headache is connected to the Gardasil. She is 17 and a senior in High School, she was planning on going to college, but now she is afraid to be alone, drive, or do anything that typical teenagers do.

I've been on Avaine for 2 months now... And I'm feeling so crappy right now. I've always had an irregular period, where I would miss a month or two then it would come back with a vengeance and last for almost a month in a half. I never had cramping until I started taking this pill. Last month it was so unbearable I was in the fetal position at my aunts house. She tried desperately to comfort me but nothing helped. I ended up going to the emergency room. I was given morphine and some other pain meds. The doctors thought it was my appendix at first so I was given an ultrasound and a cat scan. My ovaries were fine and everything was fine. Six hours in the emergency room and I was told it was really bad menstrual pain. How lame is that? Anywho I went to Australia with my bf and well yea you know... Now I think I'm pregnant... so thanx Avaine. Not sure what to do anymore, afraid if I stop I will most definitely become pregnant. I'm going to take a test.. not ready to be a mom. Cross your fingers for mr guys!

I have been on Loestrin for about 7 months. I have had similar symptoms as everyone else has posted, but my main concern is the irregular period. I get it twice sometimes like in the middle of the pack and then when on the blank pills. Sometimes they're painful too. There was a two month span where I didn't get it at all, I took home pregnancy tests religiously for 2 weeks to ensure I wasn't preg. I'm getting nervous, I was on ortho tricyclen before but it made me so emotional and I gained a whole lot of weight. I haven't had any massive moodiness, I gained some weight but I also quit smoking, Has anyone had anything similar to this, how long is it going to take to get my periods normal? Should i switch brands?

I ONLY HAD ONE INJECTION AND THE SIDE EFFECTS WERE HORRIBLE. I HAVE A 2 YEAR OLD LIL BOY WHO IS WONDERFUL. WHEN HE WAS A YEAR AND A HALF I WENT TO THE HOSPITAL FOR SEVERE BLEEDING AND FOUND OUT THAT I HAD BEEN PREGNANT AND WAS HAVING A MISCARRIAGE. THEN 6 MONTHS LATER I HAD AN IRREGULAR PERIOD WHICH HAD NEVER HAPPENED BEFORE. I HAD ONE AND THEN TWO WEEKS LATER HAD ANOTHER AND IT WAS VERY PAINFUL. I WENT TO SEE MY GYN AND HE DID A VAGINAL ULTRASOUND AND TOLD ME I HAD A CYST THE SIZE OF A GOLF BALL ON MY LEFT OVARY. HE PUT ME OF A HIGH DOSE OF BIRTH CONTROL TO DISSOLVE IT. TWO WEEKS LATER I HAD TO GO BACK TO THE DR BC I WAS STILL IN A LOT OF PAIN. THE DR THEN TOLD ME HE WAS GONNA DO A LAPROSCOPE. WHEN I CAME OUT OF SURGERY THEY HAD INFORMED ME THAT I HAD ENOMETRIOSIS AND THAT MY BLADDER WAS STUCK TO MY UTERUS AND MY UTERUS WAS STUCK TO MY ABDOMINAL WALL. I ALSO HAD THE ENOMETRIOSIS ALL OVER MY OVARIES, UTERUS, AND BLADDER. IT WAS VERY PAINFUL. MY DR SUGGESTED THAT I TAKE A 6 MONTH TREATMENT OF LUPRON. SO I DECIDED TO GIVE IT A TRY. I TOOK ONLY ONE INJECTION AND THE SIDE EFFECTS WERE HORRIBLE. I HAD MOOD SWINGS, HOT FLASHES, STOMACH PAIN, CRAMPS, FATIGUE, TIREDNESS, JOINT PAIN, SWELLING, WEIGHT GAIN ETC... I CALLED MY DR AND HE PRESCRIBED A HORMONE PILL WHICH DID NOTHING. SO I DECIDED NOT TO TAKE ANYMORE INJECTIONS. THAT WAS ALMOST 3 MONTHS AGO. I AM STILL IN SEVERE PAIN SOMETIMES IT IS HARD TO GET OUT OF BED (WHICH I HAVE TO GET UP EARLY EVERY MORNING I HAVE A 2 YEAR OLD). I STILL HAVEN'T HAD A PERIOD AND IM EXTREMELY RESTLESS AT NIGHT I AM TIRED BUT CANT SLEEP. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHEN I SHOULD EXPECT A PERIOD??

I went to see my PCP in March 25th 2008 because my allergy. My pcp told me she'll give one injection since it's allergy season and it would make me fell better. She didn't tell me what kind of injection it was and I trust her.

The next day I was having panic attacks while I was outside on the street.
I couldn't breath because my heart was beating so fast, and I felt "pacey" all day. I just went home hoping the symptoms go away but it only got worse. I couldn't even walk because I was out of balance, my vision got blur and I had massive headache. I assume it was happening because the injection so I called my PCP, but she told me she didn't do anything different. My PCP had a day off so I went to the ER that afternoon. I had cat scan done in case I had stroke but my cat scan was clear. The ER dr think it's side effect from the shot.
I called my pcp 2 days later after my visitation to the ER but she never returned my call. Somehow, I couldn't trust my pcp I didn't go back to her.
I was hoping the injection fades away and try to manage my body. I start notice I had anxiety and couldn't sleep at night. I had pretty regular period but I had very irregular period following month and that drove me crazy because I had 2 full periods within a month and I had blood spots. I barely had period following month. I notice that I gain so much weight. I always watch what I eat so I never get out of control with my weight but I couldn't fit into my jeans I used wear. I also notice that I get back pain the side I had shot if I seat for long hours which I never had before. Now my legs are swelling ,numb and have tingling sensation. I was really concern so I call my pcp today to find out what kind of steroid she injected me. The medical assistant told me that doctor can't not give the name and he was giving me ridiculous excuses to not to give me the name of the injection . I was so upset and didn't make sense to me. I asked for the dr. and asked my pcp the name of the shot. It was "Kenalog". I googled the name and I found this site. I am really scare and I am upset at my pcp that she never mention what the injection was and never discuss the side effects with me. If I knew about the side effects back then I would never let her give me the shot.
I never signed anything with my pcp. My pcp promise to call me back today. I even left her a message again to call me but haven't heard from her yet.
I believe FDA is responsible for this steroid but doctors are holding great responsible also!

How long dose it takes to get back to normal? I would greatly appreciate for any information!
Dose anyone knows powerful lawyer?

I got a shot in early January for a severe tonsillitis infection. I was so sick at the time, that I consented to the shot because I thought it would relieve the swelling. The doctor never mentioned any side effects. Unfortunately, the shot did not help at all. Even worse, I noticed a few months after I received the shot, that I had developed a dark indentation at the site of the shot, on my butt cheek. Since then, I have noticed that the dent has gotten bigger and uglier. I'm very upset about it. I went to a dermatologist/cosmetic surgeon, and she advised that I do nothing. She said it would fill in with time - 6 months to a year. We will see.....it doesn't seem to be getting any better.

The worst and most distressing side effect, is this month I had two periods, two weeks apart. I've never been on birth control, and my periods have always been very regular. I had been reading about this side effect a few months ago, and was relieved that at least my periods had not been affected.....well, I was wrong. 4 months after the shot, I've been affected. I had noticed in the past several months, that my periods had gotten shorter, lasting only 2-3 days as opposed to 3-5. They have also gotten lighter, except this most recent irregular period which was a bit heavier.

Along with the dent and irregular periods, I've been experiencing back aches, extreme fatigue and some nauseau - all symptoms which I've never experienced before. I'm a runner and in pretty decent shape and good health. Now I feel like my body has deteriorated due to one small but devastating shot!

I'm very upset and distressed about these side effects. I'm afraid of what other side effects I might not know about yet.

I contacted a lawyer that I found on this website, who is helping a client with these symptoms. I want to join a class action suit. This is unacceptable!

My gyn prescribed this because of my irregular period and acne.
I took this on the second day of my period. Everything was going ok, except for the nausea. Then after 4 days, I developed acid reflux (which I never had before), bloating, lightheadedness, high blood pressure and horrible anxiety and panic attacks. I couldn't eat anything without feeling the bile rise to my throat. Then with all that was happening to me, my anxiety and fear worsened that I made my parents stay with me until I got better. I kept on feeling my heart beating so fast that I almost felt like passing out.
So after one week, I thought it was the pill affecting me instead of a bad stomach virus. Only after two days of getting off the pill, I feel much better. I do not have the bile rising to my throat, but I do burp a bit and can eat. I still feel a little anxious, but am doing much better. I think I would rather keep my irregular periods and facial acne after my bad experience with this pill. I was ok two years ago when I was on other birth control, so now I am reconsidering ever taking any BC again.

Hey everyone... I was on Yasmin and I loved it! I had to switch to Loestrin 24 because of insurance. Like most people I have had a really irregular period on Loestrin24, or I guess lack of one. The first pack I had HEAVY breakthrough bleeding after the first week. Since then, with the second pack I had no period, I took a pregnancy test, it was negative. Then this month the third, I am about to finish the brown pills and still no period. Since I started the pill I had had horrible stomach aches, and my left breast has been in so much pain. I went to the doctor, told her about my worries, she said to wait 3 months and see what happens. I hate this pill but I am in a bind because my insurance will not cover any birth controls for a reasonable price (under $65-$90) except for the generics. It is just frustrating because of course I am worried that I am pregnant but there's no way I could be (we are always double protected). I want to know if anyone has any suggestions on how to get an inexpensive form of birth control...

I should want to have sex lots of sex not have no sex at all what is wrong with me? could if be the pills ? I have been on them for a long time now but I never really thought that it would be birth control to cause all of this.someone please reply.

irregular period; flushed red face (first few days after injection); acne; bladder infection; indigestion (gas, burping)

I received an injection of 80 mcg of Kenalog in my hip joint to treat pain due to hip impingement. As is the case for most of the other women on this site, I received NO warning from my orthopedist of any these side effects. She said there were virtually no side effects for a single dose, only for repeated use. The only specific reaction she mentioned was the potential for infection at the injection site, which didn't occur. She gave me no information about which medication or dosage I'd received, let alone a handout with side effects.

A week after my injection, I got my period -- 2.5 weeks early. I was unable to speak with my orthopedist's office for the next 1.5 weeks because they were closed for the Christmas - New Year's holiday. I did manage to reach my gynecologist, whose office was also closed for the holidays, but she said she didn't think my early period was due to the steroid. Since I still didn't know which steroid I'd received, I couldn't do any internet research. I was worried because I have a uterine fibroid, which could potentially be causing the irregular bleeding. Also, I know there are other scary causes for irregular bleeding.

The period lasted 8 days, which is longer than usual for me. Almost immediately after it stopped, I started feeling PMS symptoms, like I could get my period again any day.

I ended up cutting my vacation short so I could see my gynecologist. When I finally got in touch with my orthopedist's office, they told me that I'd received Kenalog, which can cause menstrual irregularities. WHY DIDN'T THEY TELL ME THAT TO BEGIN WITH??? It would have saved me 2 weeks of needless worry.

Now that I've informed my gynecologist, she says it may take a few months for my menstrual cycle to get regular.

Hey everyone i have been taking yasmin for almost a year now and during the first month i bled almost everyday. When i went back to my gyno she said this was normal because my body was getting used to the hormones and that it would level out over the first two months. When she told me this it really didnt worry me too much bc i had an irregular period anyways. After the first month everything was fine until my third period when i experienced horrible cramps, mood swings, depression, and breast tenderness, and i dropped about 5 pounds. Yasmin is the only birth control i have ever taken so i'm not sure if i should switch bc i can deal w/ the cramps and breast tenderness but i'm not sure about the depression. I am only 18 and recently i have noticed a couple more side effects like reduced libido and dizziness...i wonder if another type of BC would be better?
