I am actually very relieved and excited to see that there is a connection between erythromycin and depression. I had taken erythromycin for years for acne. I found a strange correlation between taking the drug and feeling depressed. I asked both my doctor and pharmacist about this, and they both responded as if I were both crazy and stupid. "Of course not," was the reply. So I continued to take it.
I began taking it again about a week ago, and have found that I've been slipping into a very dark depressive state. This time I am very aware of what is going on around me, since I stopped taking my anti-depression medication last February (under the care of a physician and a psychiatrist) I am noting the same 'darkness' that I felt in previous times with erythromycin. A general 'nothing matters, might as well die' sort of attitude, as well as irritability and a strong desire to isolate. I started researching this morning on the internet, and I have found several links now. There have been studies that have shown a direct correlation between erythromycin use and depression.
Okay, now, here's the kicker: the erythromycin I've been taking is topical. It's a 2% solution, suspended in alcohol. I've been slathering it on my face three or four times a day. Apparently it doesn't matter if it is absorbed through the skin or through the stomach/intestines. Erythromycin causes depression in me. I don't care what my face looks like. I'm going to stop taking it.

I'm a physician. Usually Kenalog injections can be avoided and oral steroids used like prednisone. The local dimpling effect may occur if the injection is too shallow, actually there is a temporary "disolving" of the subcutaneous tissue, the muscle and joints are not damanged. It is usually viewed as a "cosmetic" adverse effect. The Kenalog injections was primarily designed for joint injection and the kenalog or similar depo form stays active in the joint for a few weeks. All steroid medications can cause irritability and this is usually temporary for a few days. Steroids can cause muscle weakness- this is usually associated with high doses for prolonged use like being on prednisone for 3 or 4 months. Steroids can have an adverse effect on menstration, but this is usually associated with chronic use. The most serious problems with the steroids result in bone weakness(osteoperosis) and serious damage to joints like the back and hip. Steroids can also result in weight gain, diabetes, high blood pressure and cataract formation. I don't think Kenalog is any different than other steroids such as Medrol or Prednisone in terms of the side effect profile. These are dangerous medications that can also be very helpful in saving lives and diminishing pain.

I have been taking this pill for almost a year now. Recently in the last few months, I have experienced insane mood swings, irritability, heart palpitations, headaches, and anxiety. I even went to a cardiologist the heart palpitations were so bad. My heart is completely healthy. I have not had a period in like 7 or 8 months which is great but now I am thinking that this pill is doing more damage than good. My poor sweet boyfriend has taken the hit the most and its unfair I dump all my irritability on him. I am calling my doctor in the morning to change. After reading all these negative responses, I think this pill sucks.

Wow! I cant believe other women have had these same symptoms, I started the Nuva Ring about three months ago after I lost a baby very early in gestation, I swore I would never have to go through that again, so my doctor put me on the NR and I couldnt tell If I was still hormonal from the pregnancy or if it was the ring, But Im a wreck! Im so mean and hateful to my husband pretty much mean to everyone, I feel like this big mean lady walking around, and thats not me not at all I have crazy dreams, horrible anxiety, panic attacks and PMS from HELL. I have never been on birth control before so I have nothing to compare it to. But after reading this.Im really considering taking it out so I can be myself again.

Blurred vision, 15 lb weight gain, irritability, insomnia, excess hair growth (exacerbating my PCOS), nausea, nightmares, fuzzy thinking, bad memory, lose train of thought mid-sentence. Been on 100mg for 3 months. Doctor upped to 200mg but after 3 days on it and 3 days of no sleep, I dropped back down. Helps a bit with my depression, but I feel sort of numb. Not as bad as on some, but not good.

I HAVE HAD THE MIRENA IUD FOR 11 MONTHS. I HAVE GAINED 11 LBS OF UNWANTED WEIGHT. I CONSTANTLY HAVE ABDOMINAL PAIN, BLOATING, AND DISCOMFORT. MY PANTS (EVEN THE LARGER SIZE) CAUSE A STRANGLING PRESSURE AROUND MY WAIST LINE. I OFTEN HAVE PAIN WITH INTERCOURSE. MY MENSTRUAL CYCLE HAS DECREASED BUT THE PMS SYMPTOMS HAVE NOT. I ALREADY HAD A PROBLEM WITH OVARIAN CYST AND THEY HAVE NOT DECREASED. I OFTEN HAVE STRIKING PAIN IN THE LOWER ABDOMINAL AREA AND IN MY PELVIC AREA. I HAVE MIGRAINES HEADACHES, BUT ALSO SOMETHING I HAD PRIOR TO IUD. I ALSO HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING A LOT OF CONSTIPATION PROBLEMS, UNKNOWN IF RELATED TO THE IUD OR THE MULTIPLE CYST. MY ENERGY LEVEL IS LOW AND PRIOR TO IMPLANT I WAS OFTEN HYPERACTIVE. ONE BENEFIT IS THAT SINCE MY ENERGY LEVEL AS DECREASED I NO LONGER HAVE INSOMNIA, SOMETHING I HAVE HAD FOR YEARS. I WOULD RATHER BE UP ALL NIGHT, THEN DEPRESSED AND UNCOMFORTABLE EVERYDAY.

I HAD HOPED SOME OF THESE SYMPTOMS WOULD SUBSIDE TO NO AVAIL. I CANNOT LIVE WITH THE INCREASED WEIGHT, DAILY CRAMPS, AND ABDOMINAL PROBLEMS. IF THIS IS A RESULT OF THE MIRENA IUD THEN IT IS TIME TO HAVE IT REMOVED. I WAS LOOKING AT THIS DEVICE TO HELP DECREASE FEMALE COMPLICATIONS I WAS ALREADY EXPERIENCING AND AS I HAVE READ IN THE OTHER POSTED COMMENTS THE IUD HAS ONLY INCREASED AND CREATED MORE SYMPTOMS FOR ME. I ONLY WISH I WOULD HAVE FOUND THIS SITE A YEAR AGO BEFORE THE IMPLANT. I WILL BE CALLING MY OBGYN TODAY FOR AN APPOINTMENT. THANKS FOR THE INSIGHT.

i have had mirena for 3 months now. i went to the doctor about my acne and irritability. Other than that I haven't had any side effect to complain about. For the acne I started an Antibiotic (until my body gets used to the hormone) and for my irritability i started B12. I just don't want to jump the gun and have it removed if these two issues can be resolved.

In June 07 I rushed into having the coil fitted, having had a double rollover with two beautiful babies successively, only 13 months apart. No 2 baby had his first birthday end-Mar 08 and as I was no longer breastfeeding I suppose I began to stop making "new baby" excuses for my moods, brain fog, lower back pain, extreme fatigue, irritability if not getting a nap in the day even though had good 8 hrs sleep on night and weight gain (dress size).

Over the last few months I have gone on to experience severe PMS symptoms (which I didn't have prior to coil), clearly a build up within the body for not being able to bleed regularly. These included crying spells (for no reason), feeling very flat/exhausted almost like "out of body" old woman (I'm 33) and feeling bloated/pregnant - they would last roughly two weeks and then I would get a day's bleed which explained the cause. I even took a pregnancy test although it was negative. For me the final straw has been the onset of migraines (a year on) lasting several days and just being constant.

Having two energetic toddlers and little family support, I simply didn't have the luxury of continuing with these symptoms and could no longer tolerate the thing inside me. Luckily, my hubbie agreed and so had coil removed on Friday (total of 14 months) . Already, 2 days on, the bloating and brain fog have eased off. The migraines are still present but am assuming it will take a while for body to sort itself out. I'm so looking forward to feeling like "me" again with and getting fruity with the hubbie.

Additionally, have had nose bleeds over last few months and a yeast infection - not sure if these are linked in!

19 year old daughter had shot in may, experienced severe soreness at the injection site, nausea, fainting, lethargy and irritability. Holly continued to complain of general malaise and achy joints. Holly had her 2nd shot in July and left for College in August. When she visited for Thanksgiving break in November, she experienced her 1st known grand mal seizure. We did not get the 3rd shot of the series. Since then she has had several more seizures and was put on anti-seizure meds which at this time are working well. Holly continues to complain of "brain fog" which was present after the first shot and has yet to resolve. She is still irritable, which makes the situation she is dealing with concerning the seizures and the restrictions that she had, almost impossible to deal with.

Let me just start out by saying that I am so glad that I found this website!!!

I am 22 years old and have a 3 year old daughter. After giving birth to my daughter, I opted for the Mirena as my choice of birth control because of how convenient it was. I have never been good with remembering to take a pill everyday, so this seemed like the perfect option for me.

When I went in to get the IUD inserted it hurt like hell. The months to follow were not very pretty either. I experienced cramping, general pain in the abdomen and irregular bleeding. My doctor assured me that many women experience the same side effects the first few months, and that the pain and bleeding would eventually get better. It did...but the other side effects didn't.

For the past three years, I have attributed the following side effects to the changing lifestyle of becoming a mommy and a very hectic and stressful career. I have experienced severe lethargy and fatigue(even after getting a good night's sleep and sometimes a nap), decreased lebido(again, I am only 22 years old!), nausea after intercourse, feelings of being constantly bloated, 20 lb weight gain(after the baby was born!), irritability, feelings of being angry for no reason at all, measurable hair loss, extremely dry skin, facial and all over body acne(I have NEVER had a problem with acne until the past year). Honestly for the the past 3 years and especially int he past year, I just feel like crap. Almost like I felt when I was pregnant! I can't tell you how much money I have wasted on pregnancy tests in the last 3 years, because I have not had a period and I know that at 22 years old I should not feel like I am 60!

My husband told me not to have the IUD inserted, and he has been begging me to have it removed ever since then. After reading the blogs on this website I realize that my husband is right(darn!).
I am making an appointment immediately to have this thing removed. I am hoping that I will soon be feeling like my old self again. Good luck to everyone who has had this damn thing inserted. It is definitely not for everybody!!

I was on Yasmin for 6 weeks before pulling myself off this morning. I experienced bladder problems, insomnia, extreme hunger, moodiness, brain fog, horrible cramping, irritability, and a multiple-day long migraine that has still yet to subside.

I am on my 3rd NuvaRing, and my last NuvaRing. This thing has cause me more pain and problems than anything I have ever used! The first time around the only problem I had was an increase in UTI's and extreme discomfort in my vagina and urethra, especially during and days after sex. I was told these side effects would go away within the next trial of the NuvaRing. Boy, were they wrong. After Taking out my second NuvaRing my period lasted from JULY 5TH to JULY 18TH! I also had to face the heaviest period of my life. I would go through a super plus absorbency tampon and panty liner in less than an hour. How embarrassing, inconvenient, and uncomfortable! I have had two ultrasounds, and 3 pelvic exams since starting the NuvaRing just 3 months ago. I have also had to face headaches, stomach pains, MOOD SWINGS, IRRITABILITY, and depression. This thing has put a damper on my sex drive and my relationship with everyone around me including my boyfriend of 3 1/2 years. I would not recommend the NuvaRing to anyone!!!!!!!!

I have been on and off Singulair for roughly a year and half, and after reading some of these posts I have a much better understanding of where some of my feelings are coming from. When I first began taking Singulair, it really helped me breathe a lot better and I was convinced it was the best drug on earth. Slowly, over time, I began to notice that I was becoming slightly more irritable but didn't really think much of it. I got off the drug for several months because I don't enjoy being on medication. I wanted to see if a nutritional approach would help me ward off my allergies. After a few months of being off Singulair, I began to have difficulty breathing during allergy season and went back on the drug. It really helped my breathing in a big way; however, my irritability began to return. I thought I was just becoming overly stressed, but when I heard about the moodiness that can be caused by Singulair, I decided to once again get off the drug. I was off of it for several month, and have recently begun using the drug again. I haven't even made it through my first 30 days and I'm becoming a monster!! I'm yelling at my wife like crazy. I seriously felt for the first time in my life that committing suicide would be a good thing and I keep telling myself in my head how bad I suck! My temper is off the charts! I feel like I literally have no way of holding my rage back. It's like I'm an audience member to my own MMA fight. I'm absolutely getting off of this product tonight! I will keep you posted on how I feel after a couple of days not taking this drug.

Hello everyone. Im twenty years old and this is my second attempt of using Nuvaring. The first time I was on it I thought I was ok, but when I think about it today..(two years from the first time) things weren't ok. I had thoughts of suicide and lacked self worth. However, I decided to get off because of financial reasons. This being my second attempt, Nuvaring is has already provided me with about 4 migraines a day. At first I thought they could be managed until they were accompanied by nose bleeds. Ive lost my job, fiance, and social life due to the mood swings and irritability that I now have. This will be the final time that I will ever use this CRAP!!

This has been a real eye opener for me. I had my IUD inserted in March or April of 08. My husband is the one who approached me tonight to tell me to get the Mirena IUD taken out. He's been complaining that I've not been the same for awhile now. Mostly due to the fact that I have no libido at all. I honestly did notice that there was a problem. I guess it's because I'm not missing it at all! I just assumed it was due to the fact that I've got two kids and a highly stressful job. But now that I'm reading all these posts I'm beginning to wonder. I notice some things I'm having in common with other women: hair loss, irritability, moodiness, pelvic pains, spotting, etc. Again, most of these I thought would just improve with time or were caused by other things, but now I'm thinking maybe my husband might be right and that it's related to the IUD. Darn! I hate admitting when my husbands right! =)

i feel AWFUL reading this. i have on the ring since 16. im now 21. i cant believe how i dealt with this mess for 5 years!(and is now just realizing like TODAY now realizing). Before i continue, the ring usually fall out when when its MIA(missing..). When you poop or pass gas ur lady mussels pushes it down(like givn birth). Also one time i started having pains like my period was coming. That meant i needed a new ring. I just bought one so i knew it hadn't "ran out". I checked myself for the ring. It was gone. Lets just say i found it under the bed from the night b4 lol. i say this b/c they don't get lost in you. neither does tampns but this is NO JOKING MATTER. I know that i WAS a happy OUTGOING energetic young woman. I have thought to myself several times why aren't i going anywhere? It seems for that last few years my life's story is really basic and it includes the following:
random moodiness, fits of crying coming out of no where, terrible PMS symptoms , increased irritability with my boyfriend, white lumpy discharge toward the end of my 20 something days when its time be replaced, itchiness sometimes ,i was told i had bacterial vaginitus last Wednesday , random painful stabbing sensation in the vaginal area, but i haven't really experienced increased dryness during sex, major lack of sex drive, painful breasts and or extreme swelling of the vaginal walls during and after sex. I will tell you guys a SECRET if u twist the nuva like a bow. it will perfectly sit inside you w/o moving and u wont feel a THING! that's how i stopped mine from sliding around. i also noticed when i have it like that no spotting or NOTHING until its time for a new one...
I found this sight by looking for nuvaring lawsuits and i found much more than i bargained for. I never put all of these symptoms together b/c i was a teen and going thru teen things. I am a grown woman and i realized something IS wrong. This isn't me. My sudden outcries and fits of rage wasn't enough for me to realize bc it is hormones that i was taking and i expected that. The headaches and wanting to sleep all day was surely coming from work and school & in my alone time my family and friends thought i was too busy to be bothered... And i was! Sulking in my room about nothing for hours. Now i reflect back as i type. I am more depressed that i missed out on fun and business opportunities b/c of this and didn't even see it coming.i so badly want to go "natural" but i have never been preggo and don't want to be now bc when i do get preggo for the first time i wanna plan my pregnancy. My friends call there babies "patchbaies or pillbabies" b/c that was the method they were actively using at the time!PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE!:Does anyone out there know of anything better? ****** if you do.

Hi,
I had mirena inserted June 5th, a couple days later major cramping and bleeding. I felt sick, nausea and flu like symptoms- no fever. I thought I would hang tight and be tough in hope that the symptoms would dispate and I would be period free and baby free for 5 years. Well, the cramps lightened up but the bleeding never did. Sometimes it would slow down then in the middle of the night I'd wake up with the sheets ruined. Mentally I've been slowly going down hill, getting increasingly irratatable, sad, and just moody. I couldn't stand bleeding non stop and having a foreign thing inside my body. My husband and I haven't been intimate since it's been in. I had mirena taken out Friday July 18th and Saturday I started heavy bleeding with clots. I had to get super plus tampons and overnight pads just to walk around. Normally I have heavy periods so I'm not concerned that I'm over bleeding but this just adds to the nasty list of side effects of mirena. Not to mention I'm still breastfeeding my now 4month old son and was always looking forward to a period free several months because of the breastfeeding. I hope I didn't pass anything off to him thru the milk, they say it's "safe" for breastfeeding mom's but I wonder with all these crazy side effects. It's out and I will not put anything in my body again.

I had mine inserted 5mo ago. I have all the same symptoms (no sex drive, severe moodiness, possible depression, high irritability making it difficult to deal with my 3you). I was hypo-thyroid before, and unfortunately for me - my new GP lowered my thyroid dose at nearly the exact same time I quit my mini-pill to get the IUD. I do feel better for that day, when I take my higher dose pill, but I don't know if it'd be sustainable over time (as my doc won't prescribe me out of normal lab ranges).

The only thing I haven't gleaned from the posts attached, is were folks on versions of the pill before Mirena? I believe my mood swings/depression/(not sure of low libido) are probably my normal state. I had had pills switched on me, with drastic mood changes. My mother has drastic mood swings/depression. I had been on the piill for the last 17 years, minus my two pregnancies. My OB did tell me that Mirena wouldn't fix my "moodiness" problems, if I had them w/o the pill - but I wanted to try it and see.

Reading these posts makes me realize, this is my real problem - I need a regular dose of BC pills to feel normal, have my whole life - not my thyroid. I guess I'll stop getting so concerned that I cannot get in to see an endocrinologist for another month - hopefully my 5 min appt to get this thing out will happen next week!

Thanks to all and good luck to you!

Very disappointed...I became Hypoglycemic!

My story: I became Hypoglycemic within weeks of having the Mirena inserted. My symptoms were; anxiety, shakiness, irritability and nightmares.
I went to a primary care doctor and then to a endocrinologist complaining of that my blood sugar was becoming a problem. I was aware of the feeling of low blood sugar because when I breast feed my two boys (ages now 7 and 10) I then easily became hypoglycemic. However, I have not had this problem since.
Both physicians thought that i had reactive hypoglycemia because my fasting glucose was within normal limits.I have a healthy diet but i changed my eating habits even further (e.g. gave up all caffeine, sweets, alcohol. I started eating more whole grains and had small meals every 3 hours).
Even though I change my eating habits the side effects still became worse.I was starting to get panic attacks, I had never had these before. During one of my worst panic attacks (9 months after I had the Mirena inserted) I called my sister. I kept saying "I don't know what is causing me to be so anxious, I have never been like this before." Well, that statement sank in, I started to think about what was different. The only thing was the Mirena. That night I look up side effects of the Mirena and came across several blogs all describing their disappointment and many speaking about anxiety related issues.
I have to say I felt relief. It was not going crazy. The following day I read the official FDA Mirena web-site and that is when I found out about the effects on blood glucose. It is stated that Levonorgestrel may effect glucose tolerance and the blood glucose. However, my gynecologist never mentioned this side effect so I was not aware of this potential reaction. Btw, I had told both the primary care doctor and the endocrinologist that I had a Mirena IUD but neither of them new about the effects to the blood glucose.
The other interesting thing I noticed on the official FDA Mirena site is that when the list the Adverse reactions (depression, nervousness, weight gain etc...) they say reported by 5% or more subjects...hmmm, MORE...i think that is a key word!
I had it removed one month ago and I am starting to feel better. From what I understand, it may take up to 3 months to get the Levonorgestrel to get completely out of the system. however, my hypoglycemia is starting to diminish, I recently had a cup of coffee without getting the shakes and I can now enjoy a glass of wine at night too. My anxiety is almost completely gone.

What a relief to have figured this out!

I've been on Coumadin for one month after having a pulmonary embolism (caused by birth control). I have painful red patches that look like clusters of pimples. I also have fatigue, nausea, headache, loss of libido, and irritability. I am 24 years old and just got married 6 months ago - these symptoms are ruining my "honeymoon period."

Wow, I don't feel so crazy after reading everyone's comments. I was on BC for 6 years, and stopped for a year and a half. I myself started this pill 4 days ago, and already I have noticed increase anxiety, paranoia, headaches, and irritability. I called my doctor and told them to write me a prescript for what I used to take -- Ortho Tri Cyclen. For some reason I allowed my doctor to talk me into taking this crap.
Yeah.. the 'lo' dose stuff isn't always the best stuff.

I am 21yrs old and I have never taken BC pills. My doctor recommended Yasmin over a year ago but it has been only two weeks since I've started using it and i've gotten really bad side effects.Immediately i noticed red spots in my eyes, intense headaches, irritability, short breath and feeling quite drowsy. In addition i had very clear skin and now i'm noticing that i'm breaking out on my face, especially my forehead.

I've decided to continue using it until the end of the month and if there isn't any changes i'll stop it completely. GREAT WEBSITE!!!!!!!!!!!!
