I just want to say how happy I found this site. I'm not alone! I thought I was going crazy or that my body was shutting down completely. I had my mirena put in Sept. 2006 and my body has become something I don't even recognize. I am extremely bloated all the time and it hurts every time I eat and use the bathroom. I keep on thinking maybe I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome, but it doesn't make any sense because the symptoms showed up after I had the Mirena put in. I thought it might be food sensitivities so I got tested and have been trying to cut those foods out but it doesn't seem to be helping. I have tried all sorts of natural remedies but it never seems to go away.

I have gained 40 pounds since I the Mirena put in even though I have never have had weight gain problems before, I eat healthy and I am active. I also have a difficult time concentrating and focusing on anything. I also get dizziness, depression, irritability and mood swings. I also have been experiencing a sharp pulling or stinging in my uterus at times as well as joint pain (especially in my hips, knees) and painful intercourse with bleeding afterwards. My hair is also falling out and I have lost my desire for sex.

I've also noticed a drastic decline in my immune system. I have never been as sick as I have been in the last three years of my life. I seem to always be getting sick. For the first three months after the Mirena was inserted I had frequent bouts of yeast infections, bladder infections and still three years later I have these types of infections frequently. Not only this but I seem to catch everything that is going around when before the Mirena I hardly ever got sick.

Finally after reading the posts on this site I can trace all the changes in my body to when I had my Mirena put in. I am so upset that I have been suffering for 3 yrs with these side effects and it has taken until now for me to figure out that the Mirena doesn't just effect your uterus it effects your WHOLE body. I cant believe I trusted the doctor I went to when I had it put in that said that the hormones would only affect my uterus. NEVER, NEVER USE THIS PRODUCT!! It is coming out as soon as I can have it done! Please ladies if you know what it is like to have it removed let me know.

I have had a similar experience as many others who have written. I took Wellbutrin (with no side effects) for years, until my insurance company made me change to Budeprion in June 2007. Almost immediately I started feeling dizzy and had terrible nausea. My MD kept saying it was not the Budeprion, but that was the only new medication I was taking. Over the next year, I had a colonoscopy, endoscopy, CAT scans, MRI's, blood tests and breath tests to find out what was wrong. Everything came back negative, and my MD diagnosed me with Irritable bowel syndrome. On my own I decided to cut back the Budprion from 300 mg to 150mg, and I did feel a little better for awhile, but then the nausea came back worse than before, and I definitely noticed that it started about 4 hours after taking Budeprion. I decided to skip it entirely for a day or two, and each time I did, I had no dizziness or nausea. My MD can say whatever she wants, but I know the medication is what made me sick. I don't know if my insurance company will let me go back to Wellbutrin, but I do know I will never take Budeprion again.

Yasmin is most definitely the pill from hell! I was originally on Microgynon from the age of 17 until I was about 20/21 which was when I changed to Yasmin. I didn't notice at the time but I had the usual mood swings which come with any contraceptive, I got diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and I was suffering with anxiety and palpitations for no reason. I stopped taking Yasmin in 2007 to give my body a break but had problems with other forms of contraception so I gave in and went back on the pill after a few months, this was when the worst side effects came! Depression, anxiety, palpitations, racing heart beat, breathlessness, migraines, crazy mood swings and I’m so aggressive with it too! My aggression scares me sometimes it’s that bad!  The worst side effect has to be my hair loss! It upsets me so much! My GP but it down to low Iron and Pernicious Anaemia a year ago which I am now being treated for and my hair hasn’t got any better! I went back to my GP at the end of my tether and he did more tests including sex hormone tests which show some of my hormone levels through the roof and others struggling to get into the normal range. I had no idea this was what Yasmin did to your body! I have an appointment to see my GP tomorrow to discuss these results! Hopefully he will have some answers!

Damn reading up on all these side effects shared here is really scaring.
Well I must admit that I certainly can relate to quite a few of them.
Well I took Yasmin for over a year, and my initial experience (say 6 months) was ok.
During that times my skin became flawless,to clear&radiant the best I'd ever had.
However beyond the 6 months things changed and I developed mad constant thrush
Really it was horrid, was put on fluconazole countless times, and I had never been one prone to thrush.
Furthermore every month during my period I'd get this mad headache coupled with dizziness and serious fatigue.
I was even convinced that I was anemic, because I'd actually go pale!Due to these headaches I decided to stop the Yasmin as I
Felt that really my life was at stake. In fact it was so bad I couldn't complete the that months pack.
Discontinuing Yasmin, opened yet another can of worms, perhaps due to me stopping suddenly.I developed severe acne,I was never one skin issues.
Well perhaps it could be attributed to the abrupt discontinuation of the pill.Sadly even 6 months of being off the pill my skin has not gotten any better.
As a result I have stupidly found myself having no choice but to go back to Yasmin.I have been taking it for just over a week,my skin has improved profoundly but I'm scared.
Moreso after reading everybody else comments,I'm really scared. If I'm to discontinue would yoi advice that I complete the cycle and not not stop suddenly?
Right now I'm ok just have slight nausea and occasional dull aching head.
Please can somebody give me advice.

Hi everyone:

I tried two 6 month bouts with Yasmin and have had terrible side effects both times. The most recent being diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome. I strongly encourage everyone to listen to your bodies - if something doesn't seem right, persists, and no other explanation is available, I would strongly recommend to stop Yasmin immediately! There are a variety of other birth control pills available. I seem to not tolerate certain progestin formulations, which vary from pill to pill. You can google BCP and hormones and self educate yourself until you find a pill which works for you. I am currently looking into filing an FDA complaint for this pill. In doing so I also noted that it is currently being investigated for causing acute pancreatitis!

One more comment, I've seen in this search and others people complaining about losing feeling on one side of your body and/or muscle cramping in the legs. These symptoms can be very serious (blood clot/stroke) and you should see a doctor immediately!

I have just recently been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome. My doctor thinks I may have a sensitivity to milk, so I have been trying to avoid it, drink Lactaid Milk and I also bought some Lactaid Ultra pills... Well the first box I took (over a period of a few weeks), turned out fine. I'd eat ice cream, cheese and be okay. Most recently, last week I had wanted ice cream, so I took one and within a couple hours I had the worse feeling of car sickness, and then vomited. It was complete with chills and being hot at the same time. I also had had chili for dinner so thought it was that...wrong, today I took a lactaid pill and ate nothing that would normally trigger my IBS and about 2 hours after taking it I felt like I was car sick and vomited.

I started off taking Tenormin 50 mg 1 x a day and Lanoxin 25 mg 1 x a day about 21 years ago. I continued to have constant palps and skipped beats even though I was on these meds. I wound up developing vertigo after about 5 years that got so bad I had it daily. I ended up with severe sinus problems and was given a cortisone packet of pills (the kind that decrease each day you take them) to take. The vertigo left for 6 months, coming back again with a vengeance. I begged the docs to put me back on cortisone pills again, once more helping to stop the vertigo. However, at the same time I also stopped the Lanoxin. ??? I totally believe that Lanoxin was part of the problem causing the vertigo. I now only have it from time to time, maybe only a few times a year. I still blame the Toprol that I now take for the left-over vertigo. I was taken off of the Tenormin after about 10 years of taking it and put on the Toprol at that time and have been on the Toprol xl for the last 11 years. The docs said that I needed to be on Toprol XL, as it was an extended release and would help me much more around the clock. I did not notice much difference throughout the switch, but looking back I do believe that a lot of the things that I have been dealing with through the years are side-effects of the medicines. I have had irritable bowel syndrome, told I have fybromyalgia, then told I did not have fybromyalgia, hip and back pain, skin problems on one of my hands that started with the Toprol, headaches, tiredness, horrible weight-gain (without overeating!! Honestly.), I have averaged 5 lbs. a year and the docs never even listen to me when I voice my concerns, I have been diagnosed with anxiety, joints ache, ankels, feet, face and hands swell, stomach bloats something terrible, acid reflux, hiatial hernia, and I had a tumor removed that could have been a problem off my rectum (who knows what caused it), I have had CTs and MRIs of my head, twice, for the vertigo and what I was told was probably psuedo-tumor cerbri (because of months of severe headaches), told by my eye doctor that he wonders if I have beginning MS, everything came back fine and things seem to resolve and go into something else. I have been passed from my general physician, to a cardiologist, to a ENT, and a neurologist. No one can ever find anything physically wrong, but they did conclude that I definitely had benign positional vertigo. LOL, that means they could not tell me why I had it. I put a stop to testing when they wanted to do the spinal taps.

Now I am experiencing tightness around my lower rib-cage and feel as though I am sucking for breath, I have a terrible time falling asleep at night, I wake up gasping and swearing that I am dying. My rib-cage is numb around my right side, not so much the left side when I lay down to go to sleep at night. After a few bouts of this I finally fall asleep and sleep all night most times. My blood pressure is now on the rise 150/99 at the highest. I have been working out lately with a few positive effects, more energy, more endurance, less aches and pains, muscles are starting to tone up, however, no weight loss. I thought my bp was starting to lower, but found out it was actually up. I went to my family doc and she listened to me really good, realized at last that I was not shedding the weight despite the efforts I was making. She cut my toprol to 25 mg 1 x a day and put me on lisinopril, I did not tolerate the lisinopril so she switched me to dyazide, lowest dose 1 x a day. I have great positives ...no more swelling, weight loss, lower bp, HOWEVER, I am now having jitters, anxiety (somewhat), no appetite at all, a few muscle spasms in my arms and legs, nothing painful or severe, dizziness, slight headache that comes and goes especially through my eyes. I am also experiencing coughing, and raspiness...but I am also coming out of a bout of bronchitis, which got really bad with the lisinopril. I believe it is partly due to the meds.

I called my doc today to tell her about the twitching and buzzing feeling and to ask about the dyazide. My feelings are that I am experiencing a lot of different things, first the bronchitis, and all the meds I was taking for that...albuterol, musinex, tylenol w/codeine, and biaxin, then the decrease of my toprol xl, the bad effects of lisinopril (coughing and raspiness), and now starting the new drug dyazide (generic form). I really want this to all settle down and work out for the best, but it is getting to me now (after 2 weeks). Last Saturday I would up in the ER with shooting pains through my chest that left me very pale and lightheaded when it happened as well as very tight throug my chest and sucking for air. The ER did chest xray, chest CT w/contrast, bloodtests, urine test, bp's sitting, standing and lying down (it is highest while sitting), everything came back good. No heart attacks, no blood clots, no bronchitis anymore, nothing. Blood work was good, urine was good. I am beginning to think that perhaps my body is reacting to cutting the Toprol xl in half. Sort of a withdrawal. There is really nothing else it can be and I really don't think that the dyazide is that bad of a drug and probably not causing all of my problems now, maybe just a part. Which are the tingling, dizziness, anxiety, twitching, and coughing. I have only had 3 of the dyazide medication. But have read that withdrawal symptoms of Toprol can cause these problems for a while. I am also thinking that the shooting chest pains last week were also withdrawal of the Toprol as it had been 1 week at that point that it had been cut in half.

Any opinions, if anyone can make heads or tails of anything that I have wrote. Sorry for the length and if it is confusing.

I've been on Ocella -- a generic form of Yasmin -- since late March/early April. I only started taking it because I was on a different birth control pill in another country (no side effects there) and then moved to the US in December and when the other pill ran out (not available in the US) my doctor in the US prescribed Ocella (Yasmin).

About ten days ago I went to the ER -- I discovered I have Supra Vesicular Tachycardia (SVT) -- apparently a condition a person is born with but doesn't discover until their 20s, 30s, later or never.

Then last night I went to the ER because I was having pressure across my chest. They did EKGs, blood work and then even admitted me to the hospital for the night and did a stress test the next day. Everything came back normal, yet the cardiology nurse prescribed (as a precaution??) an aspirin regimen (this would be to prevent stroke, blood clots I suppose) as well as 0.4 nitroglycerin only in case of chest pains. On the discharge papers it says I should go back to the ER if, after three doses of nitro, the pressure does not subside.

I read the medical insert for Ocella tonight. It mentions "pectoral angina" (chest pain) as well as stroke, blood clots, etc. as possible side effects of Ocella. I'm inclined to stop taking it.

I've also had some bowel issues but I don't know whether those might be caused by the pill as well?

Wow, who should I believe? Placebo controlled studies which suggest Avelox is a perfectly safe drug or a bunch of crazy people who like to TYPE every OTHER word IN all CAPS who are probably all middle aged women with psychological problems and/or fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, or other made up diagnoses.

Here's a hint morons: The reason why every drug in existence now lists every possible side effect is because of crazies like you. This way, the drug company can protect themselves from litigious idiots like the poster below who wants to join a class action lawsuit. This only compounds the problem, though, because then more crazies look at the side effect profile and when they see that "Oh my gosh, it says right here it causes x, y, and z" it just validates in there mind that this is somehow a dangerous drug.

I swear, if all of the pampered babies in this country were put to work in a rice field in Cambodia, there would be a lot less nonsense in the world. You would see what true pain and suffering is about.

Yaz has caused extremely bad constipation, I have had to go to multiple doctors and i have been taking laxatives for the past few months. My doctor said I had irritable bowel syndrome, but he never said it was from Yaz. After reading other girls experiences who are my age, i've realized it has to be the Yaz. I never had this problem until last June when I started talking it. What birth control should I switch to?

Ok-let me just say that I am so happy that I have found this website and so many other people out there with negative symptoms as a result from taking Yaz. (I WORK FOR AN OB/GYN!) When I was young, I was diagnosed with iron deficiency anemia (EXTREMELY TIRED) that was related to heavy bleeding - the treatment: birth control. The doctor I work for recommends Yaz as "the best pill out there." So, trusting his opinion, I started taking Yaz around 2 years ago. In the beginning, I guess I really didn't notice any new symptoms. But, it seems like the longer I am on Yaz (I am taking no other medication) the worse my symptoms get. I started noticing symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome: alternating constipation and diarrhea, abdominal distention, gas, and soft stools. Lately, my symptoms resemble both IBS and Celiac Disease - which is very scary to me. I've been researching IBS, Celiac Disease, and Lactose Intolerance; while trying to change my lifestyle and diet to try and make my symptoms better - according to the treatment to these illnesses.
Not to mention, I am ALWAYS tired. I've had my hemoglobin checked and am no longer anemic, so where is the fatigue coming from? I could sleep at any time, any place. I have muscle pain that comes and goes and a seriously decreased libido. What?! I have pain with intercourse and feel horrible trying to explain these symptoms to my boyfriend. It wasn't until I read the symptoms (listed on the Yaz website) that included an abnormal reading in pap smears! How can a doctor prescribe this?
It wasn't until recently that I thought my symptoms could be linked to Yaz. I have a yearly appointment with a new OB/GYN in a couple of days and will definitely let her know of my symptoms and will most likely change to a different oral contraceptive.

I have been on Topamax for about two years for migraines, and was very pleased that after the first month or two, most of the noticeable side effects (dizziness, flat-tasting soda, etc.) disappeared, and the Topamax has been very effective in cutting my migraines in half. However, I've recently begun to question whether other health problems I've been experiencing are actually Topamax side effects and I just didn't realize it.

The first is intermittent stomach troubles that have been ongoing for the last year. Starting last January, I started experiencing diarrhea, stomach pain, and other persistent gastrointestinal problems, and through online research, I decided that it was probably either a spastic colon or Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I lost 15-20 lbs. in the spring and summer, but the problems would always recede before I took them to my doctor, then resurface just long enough to irritate me before disappearing again. It never occurred to me until recently that these could be Topamax side effects.

The other possible side effect that I assumed was an unrelated problem is interruptions to my sleep pattern. I have been experiencing some occasional bouts of sleep paralysis, and which researching this, read that in normal sleep patterns, one is supposed to enter REM sleep (when dreaming occurs) after about 90 minutes. I frequently enter into dream sleep in as short as a 20-30 minute nap, which does not seem to be normal. Again, researching this, the only two explanations that came up were narcolepsy, which I obviously do not have, and that my normal sleep patterns are being interrupted "by medication." So I'm back to wondering if it's the Topamax. Has anyone experienced similar sleep symptoms?

I started on Estrostep 4 months ago. I had been on it about 6 years ago but stopped taking it when my husband and I started our family. After my second child, I was debating BC methods. Four mos ago, I went to the ER with a ruptured ovarian cyst. Tests showed additional cysts so my doctor recommended I go on the pill to prevent/control new cysts. I started Estrostep and for the first 3 months, I had really painful cramping and my period arrived a week earlier than it was supposed to. I've also noticed that my irritable bowel syndrome (which had been controlled for 8 years) has flared up. I'm having panic attacks and just general anxiety... can't help but wonder if the pill is causing some of this.

I had my first Mirena coil fitted about 10 years ago and though it had been fantastic. No worries about getting pregnant and no periods. I had take the pill before and had ovarian cysts removed so I couldn't use the pill. However, my second Mirena only lasted 31/2 years before I notice problems. I had a new one fitted and it had been ok for 3 years. Or so I thought. 18 months ago I became very ill with chronic fatigue, sickness, severe depression for which I was prescribed Prozac and then I developed Irritable bowel syndrome. I felt like I was going nuts. Nobdy believed how I felt. My job is at risk. I had a new mirena fitted a few months ago and the problems had eased although I feel that they are now getting worse again. I am considering having it removed. I hadn't made the link between the Mirena coil and my illness until recently. I have also gained a considerable amount of weight but I also had this when I was on the pill. Has any one had problems after using the Mirena for a number of years? as most people seem to have trouble straight away.

I have only been on Singulair for allergies for 4 days. This was added to my Symbicort inhaler (for maintenance) along with a Proventil inhaler (rescue inhaler). About the same time I changed my make-up and facial cleanser. Day 2 of the new meds...Singulair and Proventil I have developed a breakout of hives all around my mouth, jawline, chin, and upper neck under my jawline. I seriously thought it was the makeup and soap until I read some of the posts here.

As for other side effects, only a headache but that seems to be after the Proventil puffs.

I am 30 y/o and only recently found out that I have asthma and severe allergies and probably have my whole life. The last 7 years have been hell, with one "upper respiratory infection" after another.
Thank goodness I found a new doctor who took the time to find out what was really wrong with me, but I am upset that he prescribed the Singulair, as he should be aware of the side effects.

As of tomorrow I am done with this drug and we will see if the hives go away. I do not want to get to the point that some other patients have gotten to, with the stomach pains, moodiness, etc.

I only the last year got the depression and irritable bowel syndrome under control and do not need a relapse.

Thank you to all who post and God bless.

I took one injection of Lupron for fibroids in Nov. 2001. It totally changed my life, I am no longer the same person I was before. It started with severe migraine headaches for 14 days straight and attacks of nausea, lack of appetite. I used to have a strong stomach - now I was very easily nauseated. I never went for the second shot. I began to have panic attacks regularly (I had not had them for over 20 yrs). I was tired all the time, and a person who used to work out at the gym 5 days a week - eventually I quit. Now I just walk. I feel about 65 yrs old (I am just 49). I look old, my face began to droop, my hair thinned. I had bouts of depression coupled with general anxiety. My migraines worsened. My sex drive dropped to zero, I feel almost "sexless". I used to be confident, now I was afraid of everything. I now suffer from irritable bowel syndrome - with bouts of diarrhea, bloating and severe gas pains. I have trouble eating sometimes.. I have had all the tests and no one can find anything wrong with me,and none of the doctors think all these problems are due to Lupron. But, I know - I was NOT like this before Lupron. It ruined my life. I just wish my doctor would have informed me of all the terrible side effects - she only told me about hot flashes. I looked into suing her for malpractice but the lawyers said they could not build a case with no real medical evidence that my symptoms are caused by Lupron. I just wish I had known then what I know now. I tell everyone - NEVER take Lupron. Six years later and I still feel like this. Oh what I wouldn't give to have not taken that drug.

wow this is interesting reading, I had the Mirena coil put in 3 years ago. It was agony while it was put in and I had severe cramps for about a week. Then I had terrible acne for about 6 months, now it comes and goes and isn't too bad. Since having the mirena coil in I have gained some weight, gone up a dress size.
My periods stopped completely.
The past few months I've been thinking about getting it removed.I've had terrible Irritable Bowel Syndrome for the past year with bloating and cramps. Also insomnia, weepyness, irritability, I feel so tired some days but just can't sleep at night, I feel stressed out and depressed.
Also I've been getting a lot of headaches and migraines which I thought were just because I'm so tired. Now I'm thinking maybe its because of the coil, but I'm not sure because it wasn't like this at the beginning

I took Yasmin for a year while in high school, and it cleared up my face and made me lose weight. However, it wasn't very good at relieving severe cramps. I stopped taking it and for the next three years tried many other pills. My acne got so bad it got to the point that I'd rather deal with the cramps than shying away from society because of my face, so a year or so ago I went back to the Yasmin. I had so many horrible side effects! I was nauseous all the time, and several times a week I was vomiting and had diarrea with stomach pain. It was so bad, last June while at a rest stop during a long drive to L.A. I passed out on the pavement, in pain, panting and drenched with sweat. I've missed work and social outings because of this. I was seeing my doctor every month and I kept getting passed around because none of them could figure out what was wrong with me. I had bloodwork and body scans and ultrasounds of my abdomen; nothing. After a year I was diagnosed with IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) and they gave me some medicine for that, but it just made it worse. Soon after that there was a really busy week in my life when I forgot to take the Yasmin. I felt better than I had in months and months. I stopped taking it completely and I felt so much better. I gained a few pounds and my acne came back, but now I'd rather have that than be sick everyday. Now I don't get sick thinking about, looking at or smelling food. This pill also enlarged my right breast but not my left. I'm hoping after some time that they will even out. After this whole ordeal I'm sticking to condoms and spermacide.

I'm only 26 years old and have been on yasmin for a little over a year now. Before yasmin, I was on Orthotricylen and on Orthotricyclen-lo before that. My OBGYN kept switching my pills because after a year or so on one, my period would come before I was even finished the active pills. My doctor said it was because the hormones weren't "strong enough" for my body or something to that effect. I'm not good with science or medical things, so I've just gone along with her advice. I've been on BC since I was 18, so this is 8 years now I've been on chemical hormones, and I'm starting to think I need to stop. I'm willing to deal with severe menstrual cramps if it means getting my normal life back in order. I felt okay with the ortho pills, so I never though in a million years that Yasmin could be making me miserable. I used to be the nicest, happiest, and most optimistic person you'd ever want to meet, and lately, I've been depressed, moody, extremely fatigued (even with a full night's sleep), have lost interest in sex and don't even like being touched sometimes, and I've been anxious about everything-my job, my relationship, my investments, my family. I almost feel as if I don't know my old self anymore. I don't have fun anymore and I have a lack of interest in seeing a lot of people sometimes. I just want to sleep or be alone. I feel bad because my fiance is the one suffering. I feel bad that I have no libido anymore, and he's been extremely supportive of me through my depression/mood swings. I'm so glad he hasn't run for the hills with the way I've changed so suddenly. He has definitely noticed that I'm not myself. I've never before felt like this. I also have a sneaking suspicion that my IBS(irritable bowel syndrome) is connected to Yasmin. I was diagnosed with it just around the same time I began taking Yasmin. In addition, (without giving too much information!), I've noticed a drastic increase in vaginal disharge to the point where I'm wearing little panty liners on a daily basis to keep feeling "fresh." Concerned about this sudden increase of secretions, I went to my OBGYN (actually, I went 2 times for the same thing). She assured me that it wasn't an infection or anything and ran tests to be sure and all checked out fine. She just said that my body "naturally" produces more discharge. Well, I'm beginning to think that that's a load of crap--never before did I experience the heavy daily discharge before Yasmin and I hate feeling "uncomfortable." I don't know anyone else who has to wear liners everyday to feel "fresh." Has this happened to anyone else on Yasmin? I read through many posts and no one else mentioned this. I'm so glad that I'm not alone in most of my side effects, and I plan on seeking medical advice from my OBGYN (who I'm beginning to lose faith in) AND also I plan on seeking advice from my regular family Doctor. I have about 3 active pills left... and after that I'm stopping this pill. I'll revert to strickly condom usage to avert pregnancy and get away from these horrible pills! I can't imagine what damage has been done to my body... I just hope it can be undone!

I have been on the Nuvaring for a little over a year now and I have noticed so many changed. When I am on my period, I have stomach aches SO bad, i nearly pass out and I have been diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which I never had before. I have abosolutley NO, i mean NO, sex drive WHAT so ever, the site of a male makes me want to punch them in the face, I have had such horrible mood swings its literally ruining my relationship with my boyfriend, i am wondering does anybody else get these side effects? I am going to make another appointment with my Doctor tomorrow and get off of this IMMEDIATLY! Reading everybody else's stories has helped so much!

I am on day 4 of 7 day treatment for chlamydia. My primary symptoms are constant fatigue with irritable bowel syndrome (but only very mild diarrhea). Because of the spastic crampy bowels I feel a general achiness and weakness in my bladder/prostate area, which was far worse than any symptom of the chlamydia (which was asymptomatic). I would be interested to know how long it takes to get the body back together AFTER finishing this medicine. Thanks.

Hi,

I've never felt compelled to post anything on a blog site before, but in this case, I felt that it was important to share my experience on Yasmin. I've was on Yasmin for 3 years, but last month, I switched to Avianne.

At first, I didn't notice any terrible side effects on Yasmin. However, slowly over the years, I noticed or experienced the following: a) marked decrease in sex drive; b) vaginal dryness; c) melasma (darkening of skin on the face); d) depression (especially in the first week of the cycle); e) muscle spasms; and f) dehydration even while drinking 10 glasses of water a day; g) weight gain; and h) fatigue.

Most desturbing of all, were symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. In my opinion, the diuretic component of Yasmin is dangerous. It was rare for me to pass a bowel movement every day and when I would, it was difficult b/c of constipation. Usually, I would pass a bowel movement every 3-5 days . I switched my diet to high fiber and eating mostly fruits/vegetables, and cutting out dairy, but that didn't help. Sometimes the pain from feeling bloated and "so backed up," that it was imbearable. Also, I would alternate from symptoms of constipation and diahrea.

I never had any of these problems before I started taking Yasmin.

It took me a while to put two and two together when I noticed that the ONLY time that I didn't have difficulty passing a bowel movement was the week of taking the placebo pills, and I was on my period.

On Avianne, I have 1-2 bowel movements a day. All symptoms of IBS have disappeared. The other symptoms of Yasmin are starting to abate, too.

Finally, if you don't notice any decrease in your sex drive at first while on Yasmin, you will down the road. It's rather insidious and it's no surprise-- if you do the research, you'll discover that the unique progestin component of Yasmin (what's usually associated with decreased sex drive) is 6 times greater than other BC pills.

Hope this helps.

I took this drug for UTI almost 10 years ago. A few days after I started taking it, I became extremely nauseaus, losing 10kg (about 22 Lb) in 1 week. I couldn't eat, lost all my energy. Even to this day, 9 1/2 years later, I still suffer side effects from this drug. I cannot absorb vitamin B12, which has also caused pernicious anaemia, and also have anaemia, irritable bowel syndrome, constant nausea, fatigue and am highly susceptible to stomach bugs and food poisonings.
Before taking it, I was fine, perfectly healthy and never had any gastro problems.
But since taking trimeth, I have never been the same.
