I've been on prednisone for nearly 3 years continuously for Ulcerative Colitis. I've been on 60 mgs for quite a while but I am now down to 4 mgs. Once I went below 10 mgs. I started experiencing severe itching on my entire scalp and then upper back, ears and collar bone. I went to a dermatologist but she can't see any reason for the itching. Has anyone else had this side effect while tapering? It's making me crazy!

Two days after taking my first Niaspan ER tablet I began felling itchy all over my body. The itchiness was so troublesome it kept me awake most of one night. I called my doctor's office to report the side-affect, which is listed as "serious" on the information page included with the prescription, but received no response. Obviously they don't care. In order to counteract the symptoms I took two XYZAL antihistamine tablets, which has eased the symptoms, somewhat. This may no be the most safe drug to take in order to lower high triglycerides blood levels.

I have been taking the generic equivalent of Wellbutrin for nearly a year. A few months ago I noticed my hair is thinning on top, in front. It has steadily become worse. I finally did a search on Wellbutrin, hair loss and found this site. I will start weaning myself off it now! Losing my hair will make me more depressed than I was to begin with. Can anyone tell me, does the hair grow back? How long does it take?

I was taking Zyrtec for the past 8 years and I am also on Antidepressants ( Effexor) and on Singulair. I had to stop taking the zyrtec 72 hrs prior to being re-tested for my allergies. I had done this once before and knew that the withdrawals were pretty intense, with itching so bad it made me want to go to the hospital. This time I looked up Zyrtec withdrawals and was shocked at the information I discovered. I stopped cold turkey and I am miserable with the itchiness. I also discovered that I don't get so short of breath( I run ) during my exercise. never going back on that stuff again. I still have allergies and get shots every 3 weeks but haven't had any problems not taking the zyrtec in relation to my allergies.

I have been taking 40mg Omeprazole (by APOTEX) for one week. At 3am Saturday 6/20/2009, I woke up with a severe itchy rash from head to foot. Over four hours, I took 125mg of Benadryl, but the rash got worse, At noon, I went to the Emergency Room at UPMC Shady side. They gave me intravenous steroids, but this had no immediate effect, After three more hours, they admitted me to the hospital. It wasn't until almost midnight before I began to have relief. I was discharged the next day. I have been instructed to never take Omeprazole again.

I started the ring and about a week later got intense itchiness and break through bleeding. It was supposed to be time for my period, and I thought since I timed it wrong possibly I was going to have it anyways. So I took the ring out. The itchiness went away immediately. Also, I could NEVER get the ring all the way in. It dropped down considerably, and I made many attempts to move it. Two days after I took the ring out I had HORRIBLE depression, thoughts of suicide and self harm. Also I was exhausted but unable to sleep. I feel a bit better, and I have no idea what it's half life is and if it will wear off, or if a new medication is needed to rebalanced the hormones. I hope not, as I had a bad experience with hormone balancing medications in the past.

I had a Mirena fitted November last year due to severe anaemia caused by a fibroid which resulted in me having a blood transfusion. In the last 2 months I have been slowly gaining weight now 1 stone heavier than last Nov! and my stomach is really bloated, last week I had a terrible migraine attack which I have never had before. However whats is most annoying is an odourless non-itchy yellow discharge which I get nearly all the time, (feels like water coming out) my Gynecologist says the fibroid is causing it? but i wanted to know if its the coil? as I really want it removed but i doubt he will as the heavy bleeding/clots may return - I would appreciate it if anyone could shed any light on this.

hey. its great to see that i am not the only person going mad with the side effects of the pill!

I started taking Yasmin in august 2008 and stopped in January 2009. after 2 months i found i had slight leg cramps and very itchy calfs and underarms that turned my skin into tiny red dots after i scratched them. i also got extremely red and blotchy inner thighs. the constant itchiness and the fact that i felt disgusting, made me go see my doctor who put me on yasminelle. ive been on yasminelle for about 2 weeks now. the itchiness has gone but i have major leg, foot and arm cramps. its hard to point my toes and sometimes difficult to stand or walk. extreme sore pins and needles in my hands and feet are also an issue.

i know side effects are different for everyone, but why are doctors still prescribing something that will give so much pain to people.

im finishing this pack of yasminelle and then stopping for good. i'm only 18 and my life's just beginning. im way too scared to take the risk of staying on the pill! if this is what its like after half a year, what is it going to be like after one year. or even more.

Pregnant or not pregnant?

After reading the posts from women who have had negative experiences with mirena, it has helped me know I am not alone.

I had the mirena inserted three months after the birth of my second son at the end of 2006.

Everything "seemed" great. My periods were lighter, sometimes only spotting. And the mirena was preventing pregnancy which was why I had it inserted. I wanted a tubal, but my obgyn recommended mirena instead, saying she had it and it was great.

After over indulging at Christmas, I decided to do a bit of dieting right after. The number on the scale has gone down, but my belly size has increased significantly, and so have my boobs.

My period stopped completely in August or September. I was told this would happen, and I was glad not to get it. I'm not so sure now.

I have all of the signs and symptoms of pregnancy (I feel just like I did when I was pregnant with each of my sons). I can't get through the night without getting up to pee at least a couple of times. My boobs are sore and sensitive. I've had headaches. My lower back is killing me. I feel nauseous in the mornings. I'm ravenously hungry at times. I'm sooo tired. I feel little flutterings in my belly. My pre-existing stretch marks have stretched even more and are itchy as heck.

Two hpt's have shown negative results. I'm making an appointment today to see my gp and find out what's going on.

I used to be nicer than nice and noticed after the birth of my second son I lost a lot of my niceness. At first I thought it was post partum, and when my nasty spells continued, I chalked it up to having two little ones to keep up with and being tired and all. I NEVER tied it in with mirena. Now I see my moodiness is possibly related to it.

I had commented to my husband one day before Christmas that I was feeling really bitchy, and he commented, "you're always bitchy". His comment shocked me. He told me I'm mean. This so does not describe the person I used to be. I want the old me back. This isn't fair to me, my husband or my boys.

Also, since giving birth to my second son, I have had body aches like you would not believe. When I get up in the mornings or after having sat for a spell, my body (feet, legs, back, arms - everything) hurts. Once I've limbered up, I'm okay until the next time I sit or lie down. Again, I never tied this in with mirena.

If I'm pregnant, mirena didn't do its job, so I'll have it removed and after the baby is born, either have a tubal like I had originally wanted, or convince my husband to get a vasectomy.

If I'm not pregnant, I will still have the mirena removed, because these are side effects I can do without and I want my life back.

My daughter is 15 she has always been healthy. After her 3rd Gardasil shot on 10/14/2008 she began having headaches, nausea, vomiting, dizziness tingleing in her hands and fingers (this happened in the next few days after the shot), tiredness, chest pain, stomach pain, face rash, eye itchiness and hot/cold flashes. I am really upset that I allowed my daughter to get this shot. The doctor says she doesn't feel this is from the shot but there is no other explanation since she had none of these problems before! As a mother I feel terribly guilty for letting her get the shot. I haven't seen anything about how long people are having these side effects. Do the side effects go away in time?

I took Wellbutrin XL for 10 days no problem, finishing an old Rx. Then I started my new SR script, and I noticed an increasing itchiness. Finally, broke out but good, with tiny pimples and major, major itching, mostly in my feet, hands or neck and scalp.

I've been off for over week now, but the itching has not stopped. I have to admit I'm scared and I have no idea why the itching won't stop. It's worse at night and may or may not be felt with a rash.

Anyone else like this?

Nothing short of nightmarish. 10 minutes after I took a pill, I experienced extreme itchiness which escalated to a sense of being eaten alive by red fiery ants. Every nerve in my body seemed to be pricked with painful needles, my scalp, inside my ears, torso and worse in hands, ankles and feet.No visible rash appeared but my temperature dropped to 97, my throat felt tight and after 10 hours, while much better from benadryl, predinsone and countless warm showers, I am still feeling the ants and needles and an acute sense of anxiety.

I had been on Sulfamethoxazole-Trimethoprim for ten days when i had my allergic reaction- i went out for a run Saturday evening and about thirty minutes after my return i started breaking out into unbelievable hives and excruciating itching at this point it was only on my arms and i put some anti-itch gel on it to get better went to bed and woke up around 2 am with my lip completely swollen out i then took benadryl which controlled the itchiness- going into Sunday the hives got so bad i could hardly move my hands and then the hives spread to my feet which made it literally unbearable to walk- i have never experienced anything like this! I felt like a cripple i was hardly able to move- luckily i had a packet of steroids previously prescribed to me started taking them and immediately started to feel better i woke up Monday morning around five am and the hives had almost vanished- then when i got up to go to work on the drive in the hives were back and stronger than ever it was horrible i was driving in traffic watching my arms and hands swell in size and itching unbelievably out of control- managed to get some benadryl in my system and another steroid- made it to work- throat started closing in on me started wheesing couldn't catch my breath- ended up in the emergency room- this has been the craziest thing that has ever happened to me! The ER doctor told me that 40-60% of the population is allergic to this antibiotic- YET ITS STILL ON THE MARKET!!!!! I seriously thought at time i might die- this was the most excruciating experience i've had- and if i lapse the time i need to take my steroid the hives come back soo fast-The doctor said it can take a week for my body to metabolize the antibiotic out of my system- the lesson i learned here always do your own research on any medicine the doctor gives you to take- just bc they prescribe it doesn't always mean its the best i mean up to 60% of the population is allergic to this- had i known this i would have asked for a different antibiotic! In my case i think that it took my body so long to have its allergic reaction due to the fact when i went on the antibiotic to fight an ear infection i was also prescribed a steroid and i believe the steroid was fighting off my reaction and keeping it at bay until i ran out of that....Also anyone having this reaction DO NOT TAKE ASPIRIN OR IBUPROFEN/ADVIL THIS MAKES THE REACTION WORSE- IT IS REALLY BEST TO JUST TAKE ALEVE!!

Anybody experience an allergic reaction. I have intense itching on feet. Eyes and throat itch as well. Been taking cymbalta for 2 weeks. First 20mg now 30mg while simultaneously tapering off paxil from 20mg now down to 10mg. The itchiness may be enough to cause me to stop cymbalta even though it is helping.

My 86 year old father was recently started on Prednisone therapy for about 5 weeks to treat aggressive eczema. Since the initiation of the first does, he has had extreme mood changes. The worst one has been aggressiveness and irritability. He was on 40mg daily for 2 weeks and has been weaned down to 10mg this week and then 5mg next week. He also had sleep disturbances at night which kept the rest of us awake at night. Fortunately, the geriatrician gave him a prescription for Seroquel to calm him down. When he became angry, he had the strength of many men. He was paranoid and was verbally inappropriate. All I can say is that this is not my father and I have 2 more weeks left of drug therapy. With chronic renal failure, he is likely to carry the side effects a little longer. I wonder if he will swing to the other side of the pendulum when the prednisone is completely finished! In any case, his eczema is almost resolved and the itchiness is gone.

I was prescribed avelox for mastitis and a UTI. I was fine until after the 3rd dose, I had MAJOR anxiety attacks that would start from my head down through my legs, like a tingling sensation. I felt as if I was going to fall over or faint. I then had tremors or the shakes. Doc said to continue the med after telling him how I was feeling. I then couldn't take the symptoms and went to the ER and they said the same thing, continue taking it. Now my gut feeling was to not take it, but I had a bacterial infection and didn't want that to get out of control, so I took the 4th dose. The next morning, it was the same thing all over again, tingling/dizziness from my head that would run through my whole body, and the shakes again. I went back to the doc and they told me it was safe to stop taking it. It has been 3 days since I stopped taking it and I still feel terrible. Very tired, my head just does not feel right. I hope with each day that it gets better. What a nasty drug this is and For anyone that reads this, please take this warning seriously, you do not want to feel like this. Oh, one more side effect, I had the tight chest also.

After 5 weeks of taking Yaz, I have developed hives, "lobster red" skin and itchiness from my ankles to my knees. The itching is was so bad, I was using a metal hair brush to scratch (I know, not good). It turns out, I'm allergic to Yasmine. Hives is one of the first side effects.

I stopped taking Yaz about 3-4 days ago and the hives went away completely last night (my doctor told me yaz stays in your system 7-10 days).

The doctor also told me, if you do develop hives on this medication, you need emergency help. Hives can spread very very quickly and they can obstruct your airway.

I personally did not go to the emergency room (I didn't know any better), I was able to control them with Benadryl.

I am sad I can no longer take this pill. It was awesome. It took away my appetite, no moodiness, no pms, no weight gain.

:-(

I have been on Nuva Ring for about 3months now and i am starting to notice some odd things happening with my vagina - burning immediately after sex, itchiness and irritation. My boyfriend is also noticing some things on his penis.. we have had all the tests to rule out anything sexually transmitted and all is clear. Am wondering if anyone else has noticed the same issues?

hi board:
I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in....
I went on NuvaRing about 3 weeks ago. Immediately (!?!?!) I began sleeping about 13 hours a day (10 hours per night, with a 3 hour nap every afternoon). I have NEVER been a napper, and I never have needed more than 7.5 hours a night. Additionally, everything seemed a bit off-- on three occasions I got into weird funky mood swings and rearranged all of the furniture in my house. (again, this isn't really me). Appetite increase, for sure, and the gas was just nearly. Decreased sexual drive.... I usually am a sex fiend, and I actually passed up sex once.
On the flip side, it sure was easy! And, no dryness or itchiness or anything.
Anyways, not for me. I think I am going to try Yaz.
I hope you all have better luck than I do!
(ps-- to those who worry about online fora: I am not crazy. Just a happy law student trying to avoid an untimely pregnancy....)

Anyone have extreme skin sensitivity? The right side of my face and scalp have a minor burn/itch feeling. I also seem to have some small goose eggs on my head. I'm seeing the OB today. Should be interesting.

I have taken Allegra-D for a year now and have noticed extreme mood changes. I have even lost motivation for daily duties. I seem more careless and lack energy. I find myself crying for no real reason at all. I too have felt the itchiness of skin, if I fail to refill my prescription in a weeks period.

I have been on 150 mg of Wellbutrin XL for a little more than 3 weeks. I am also taking 100 mg of Lamictal a day just upped that dose yesterday from 50 mg both to treat bipolar disorder (which I am not thoroughly convinced I have!) I can't tell which drug is causing which side effect, they both cause a lot of the same things. I have experienced strange dreams and horrible nightmares, itchy skin, hair loss (which I believe is from the Lamictal), acne on my face, back and shoulders, extreme mood swings and irritability, extreme fatigue, difficulty with hand-eye coordination, difficulty with words (speaking and writing), generally fuzzy headed, dizziness, waking at night with a pounding heart, joint and muscle soreness, heavy period that has lasted a lot longer than normal, stuffy nose, hacking cough and that about does it.

Basically, it sucks and I want to go off at least the Lamictal and see if the Wellbutrin is kinder on it's own. I just don't think this is going to work for me. It's been pretty rough the last few weeks, I hope I can come up with something I can tolerate.

good luck all!

I was prescribed augmentin for an infected cut on my ankle. I took it for 5 days before I started getting some seasonal rhinitis pain. Doctor said I had a sinus infection and switched me from augmentin to bactrim, and also prescribed me flonase for the non-allergic rhinitis. I took 2 bactrim before I noticed drug allergy symptoms. I developed a very itchy rash on hands and feet (worst on wrists and back of ankles). The rash appeared on itching, puffed up for a bit and dissipated to pink/red marks (slightly less itchy).
I also noticed welts (skin bumps) in the soft tissue of the web of each hand and on the inside of each foot above the arch. These are slightly tender. I called the a consulting nurse as soon as the rash started and she said to immediately take a benedryl to keep things from getting worse. It helped a little that night. Went to the doctor and was prescibed hydroxyzine which is like benedryl but stronger and helps with itching. Rash lasted almost 3 days, was worst second day, then dissipated. Welts on hands and feet have persisted for the last few days. Having general aches and phantom prickles in hands and feet, must be healing from the rash.

Doctor thinks this was all delayed reaction to augmentin. I think this was immediate reaction to bactrim. Pharmacists seem to think bactrim too.

Whichever caused it, I have stopped both and only continue on the flonase which seems to help with the sinus issues.

I haven't heard of anyone having the same kind of soft tissue welting/swelling between the thumb and forefinger. Has anyone experienced this with a rash caused by allegic reaction to antibiotics?
